Churchills - Gay bar in Manchester, United Kingdom
Attendee an event here - great place with great staff
Great pub atmosphere Monday to Thursday daytimes.
The toilets admittedly werent great but I really enjoyed myself, met some lovely people, everyone was lovely to me and my girlfriend. Will absolutely come again. Didnt go at a weekend though so cant say what thats like
Avoid this place. I would give 0 stars if I could. We went to go into this bar, bouncers were really rude to us as we went to walk in, they shoved my friend down the step and tried saying he was too drunk because of this, they then grabbed him and told him he wasn’t allowed in. This was the first bar we had tried to go to.
Top joint!
Very arrogant bar staff. Waited 20 minutes for a drink and then got attitude when we eventually did get a drink. There are so many better gay bars in Manchester where the staff are friendly. Would not recommend and would not return.
The security staff were the most understanding! I Hope on my next visit they arent working there!
Best bar in Manchester. Cute friendly staff.
What can I say no heating on no hot water yet got expensive disco lights needs decorating a load of crop run down bar no crisps
Disgusting toilets absolutely not fit for human visitation should be ashamed
so tonight Ive been here for the first time and Aaron and jack were class they helped me with some creepy guy and turfed him out. The radgie. We got sorted n had a cracking time.
Decent venue, nice bar staff, the absolute rudest DJ weve ever met. Despite our group having spent a significant sum of money on multiple rounds of drinks, the DJ kept stopping the music and individually targeting people and yelling for us to buy drinks or leave. I can see this is something that has happened with multiple past customers but could not believe it would happen to us. Said with true hostility and venom as well, a very very sad man.Completely ruined the atmosphere and will make sure myself, my friends living here, and anyone visiting never attend this institution.
Sat outside on a nice day after doing the great Manchester run, they only sell wine by the bottle but at £12 for a bottle of not bad Chardonnay me and my wife had a nice afternoon for £24 friendly barmaid, nicer surroundings and a lot cheaper than sat outside the northern quarter
Manager he is most nasty peace work.dont go in this bar. Horrible
Horrible rude manager. Absolutely disgusted with how a couple of members spoke to us in there!
Just passed by and the porter refused a table for two saying that he couldnt offer it just for two people because the table was at least for 4. Two minutes later two girls allowed to seat on that table. Okay :)
We had a brilliant day!! We had the most welcoming waiter. He’d only been working here two weeks but he was very professional and made us all (gay and straighthave a great day. Spectacular service from Shea. I’ve been down Canal Street for 10 years never really visited Churchill’s but after this experience I will be back!
Ok bar quite a good vibe. Prices ok. Staff seem friendly enough.
Why is this place still open? It belongs in Blackpool not Manchester. Avoid at all costs.
Don’t mind coming in here but never again after the price I’ve just been charged!!! £17.20 for a fosters a fosters shandy and a gin and tonic! And served in plastic glasses never again!!!
Fantastic place Great Barr service clean friendly and helpful also I would like to say thank you to the one of the staff I did not catch his name with blonde hair in a black shirt & jeans for helping me and my girlfriend enjoy our night the way we did 100% be back also I apologise for the late review as it was our first time in the village
Second weekend open after lock down, staff are rushed off their feet and probably having an awful shift, and yet theyre all still smiling and being really friendly and kind. I hope their boss appreciates them.
Started off to a really good time, lovely host at the door and a fun, albeit not too busy atmosphere inside. We enjoyed singing along to the Kareoke, and when the first guy who was singing had finished we went up the DJ and experienced very rude standoffish and quite frankly inappropriate behaviour from the DJ (dressed in a police officers outfit). We asked to request a song and following this request the DJ rudely exclaimed, that we hadnt ordered a drink yet and that we they had been watching us and we had been in the bar for 10 minutes and hadnt yet ordered a drink, so if we didnt go to the bar and buy something we would have to leave. None of this was said in a kind or even jesting tone, it was plain rude. She then told my friend to not give me that face in a patronising and defensive tone, which of course lead to us turning on our heels and making a hasty exit. Before we could even pick up our stuff the DJ had called over the security guard to reitarate what they had already told us (to buy a drink or leave), but by now there was no way we were staying for a drink anyways. Still had a brilliant night along canal street, just a shame we were met with so much hostility at a venue that promised a lot of fun.
Had the best night out and the staff were amazing thank you xx
Loved the place! Great music, great people and the best place to go out for the drink ! #LGBT
Was having a really fun night, standing at the bar we never left our drinks alone. We danced turning our backs on the bar for about a minute and the drinks disappeared. The bar staff shirked questions and looked downright moody when we asked them what happened. We all know what happened and it’s absolutely pathetic. At the bar. A few sips left and they just disappear. Right.
Disabled customers questioned and mocked when they ask where the disabled toilet is. I asked where they are and was told that I was too lazy to climb the stairs. I was then asked what my disability is. Disgusting. Avoid avoid avoid.
Not a bad place to start a Friday night. Not too overcrowded and lots of cheesy music. There was a karaoke act singing 80s and 90s songs so the vibe was very camp. That said, there were plenty of places to sit and stand and the music wasnt too loud that conversation was possible. My first time visiting the Canal Street and was a unique experience. Although I feel it would be much better being here during summer rather than a very cold January night.
A 5 2" female just been MANHANDLED from the premises by a 6" bouncer because their bar staff could not move a table with 6"clearance I have video evidence of this and will be forwarding it to the relevant authorities...absolute abuse of power ...and guess what he doesnt have any body cam to justify his abuse of power I am a civil servant who operates in the real world of civil liberties as opposed to the abuse of power by animals
Another great venue on canal Street, bar staff friendly and so are the door staff.
What a lovely vibe I had here! First time visiting Manchester gay village and I was so impressed, the drinks were good prices, everyone was friendly and just having a great time. Very nice little club. I often go to Birmingham gay village and Churchills beats many bars there. Also shoutout to the DJ on Wednesday you were so nice accepting my music requests!! love a bit of 00s music
I attended manchester pride this week and went into churchills for 3 days while visiting manchester. Out of numerouse bars they were the only bar to make me welcome i was in a wheelchait and had my assistance dog with me each occashion. The door staff moved everyone out of the way to get me in and the staff were very very helpfull by bringing a bowl of water over to my assistance dog. They were the only bar that made me welcome. Very polite staff and the door staff couldnt do enuph to for me and i want to say a big thankhou for makeing me welcome
There wasnt a green frog cocktail on the menu, but the great bar staff were willing to help me make something like one, much appreciated, great karaoke to boot! 😎 🤗 😘 🍹
Went in there 2016 for my sisters birthday. Ok atmosphere and music ok too!!!! Some of the clientell a bit dodgy!!!!. Met a guy who fancied me!!!! Never saw him again!!!! Didnt get a chance to talk to him!!!!. My so called friend chatted to him all night!!!!! 😑. Apart from that had a great weekend!!!!!!!.
Really good night out great DJ,s great service
Been a few times and love the place, friendly staff, great DJs fantastic atmosphere, its always a real party place and they dont mind me singing so badly out of tune that i could be arrested for murdering music!
This is a cheap and tacky, run down bar. They do reasonably cheap generic drinks, have loud music and karaoke and rough patrons. The toilets are fairly broken and the place is dirty and generally feels run down. Its interesting to occasionally pop in for a quick drink to see what the place is like. Good do with a complete renovation to bring it up to the level of the other bars on Canal Street.
Well for all the ignorant people who can not consider the fact that all staff and entertainment put on just for us to be in here find some where else,we have had a bloody brilliant night being that its Xmas eve thank you to everyone at Churchill"s bar in Manchester thanks guys xxx
Churchills has recently started a complete re-decoration and refurb..Lorraine the manager is turning the place back around..the new Gin & Prosecco bar upstairs is a gorgeous chill out zone..the new leather sofas and chairs in the small bar area are comfortable. The down stairs toilets have had new stairs fitted and a much needed lick of paint which has transformed the dark stairway and toilet area. The DJs are great fun and karaoke is on every night..Keep up the good work Churchills
Great music, great staff, doorman is amazing at his job, the prices arent too bad either. Great place to chill in with a pint, and friends! Karaoke nights are great too!
Churchills is an institution in the Village. Its pretty basic, but its a good enough place to drink beer and meet some lovely people.
Nice place, relaxed and good beer options. The barman was nice and attentive. Would probably return to this bar when Im in Manchester again. :)
Its Churchills. Its way to expensive for what and where. But its part of the institution!
Very bad experience caught the girl pooring my pint of cider from the drip trays i asked what she was doing and she stated it was company policy too do this and use recycled plastic pint pots AVOID WITH CAUTION the girl with multi colored hair needs a slap
One member of staff on at 6 on Mad Friday. One member of staff wandering about. 7 people waiting. 20 minutes to get served!
Okay venue, much like any other but the sound system on the karaoke is terrible
Common as muck, dreadful music but ok for a quick drink every now and then
Asked for a bottle of house white wine, what we received was literally vinegar. Obviously had been opened for a while, took a few sips of it before alerting bar staff. Asked the staff member to smell it, and I could see the grimace on his face, he said that too much had been drank for a refund, I said that it was unacceptable to serve this to people, and poured both glasses back into the jug we received it in to show how much we had drank, but he said along the line of "youve poured it back, cant give you refund", the manager came round, he was actually very rude when I was trying to explain what happened, he said that was the only wine they had, so asked for a refund, which we got back, but rather than admit that the wine had been opened for a long time, he was suggesting that their ONLY brand of wine is supposed to taste like that ?! Go figure! Wont be going back again
One of the best Gay bars on the village. You would be mad to pass it by.
A very enjoyable evening out, especially the karaoke. Not the cheapest place to drink though.
