Giant (98-ft.-tall) mountaintop statue of Jesus Christ, accessed by train & offering city views.
Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro
Description
Prepare your self to walk make sure you take water stay hydrated and if you want to get a good picture go early in the morning around 7am.Good experience in BrazilReally hot when you get up there.
MoreA must see in Rio. Sugarloaf has the best views, but Christ the Redeemer is higher with its own spectacular views. The space is basic (not many amenitiesand its crowded.Take the tram up and back. Ignore the touts selling a van ride ("Two hour wait for the train! Go now in my van!" - took 10 minutes from arriving to buy the ticket and get on the tram). The tram goes through the forest and has good views).
MoreBeautiful location. Right inside a protected reserve. Very clean and nicely maintained too. However the day I went, it was over-crowded. No place to stand and take a decent photo of anything. Considering that Covid-19 still lurks around, it was a bit scary.Besides, the souvenir shops are not selling quality stuff out there. Ive been here before and seen better days. All said, this should still be in the bucket list. Must see at least once.
MoreThis is a great place with amaxing views when the weather is good.Remember that it is quite high up and even if you dont have many clouds on the beach, there might be clouds up here. So check the weather condition.I was unlucky and ended up in the rain with hardly any view. It was magical though because there werent many tourists and the silhouette of the statue was like an apparation in the mist.
MoreFair prices, great view and a great experience overall. A little too crowded but that is to be expected of a man made wonder.
MoreA definite MUST see and know a bit of history about this. It is very crowded so be prepared to wait and maybe need to be ok with some push and shove.Lovely view of Rio
MoreDefinitely must see in Rio, the symbolic statue is huge and impressive, there are crowds of people and everyone wants to take a pic, but the view from the top is breathtaking🤩
MoreIt does have a historical significance. There is absolutely no doubt about it. Your presence around the tower will definitely bring you back in time and will make you appreciate the depth of history it contains. But in terms of structure, its just another old building. I might be wrong but theres not a lot of recreation around this place. Just a park, like any other. No offence intended though.
MoreOnce again Rio did not fail to amaze me on this experience. What breathtaking views of all of Rio from the top! Also Christ the Redeemer is so big and pictures do it absolutely no justice. I am glad we went at 0900 am because it was not very crowded and we got up to the top extremely quick. Also the weather was in the 60’s so it was perfect. Enjoy the views, take as many photos as you can.
MoreIconic and a must do if you are visiting Rio. Gives you an amazing view of Rio from such a height and is easily accessible by the tram. We had planned to do the hike to the top but had heard about recent crimes on the walking route, so would look into this route beforehand.
MoreOne of my best experience today on date 02-feb-2019 finally 3 down from 7 wonder, 4 more to goFrom top you can see hole of the Rio the generioBest view, no need to buy tickets in advanceIf you want best, must choose cable train to reachThe statue weighs 635 metric tons (625 long, 700 short tons), and is located at the peak of the 700-metre (2,300 ftCorcovado mountain in the Tijuca Forest National Park overlooking the city of Rio. A symbol of Christianity across the world, the statue has also become a cultural icon of both Rio de Janeiro and Brazil, and is listed as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. It is made of reinforced concrete and soapstone, and was constructed between 1922 and 1931.
MorePlease go, this place its incredible, magical and amazing.Cristo Redentor its a must on Rio de Janeiro 🇧🇷, you will love all the 360 grades of views from the top, its incredible who they build this on the top of the mountain.Go to the page and buy the tickets 🎟 on week from Monday to Friday its a little cheap than weekends, check the weather as well sometimes its really clouded on the top.PURA VIDA 🇨🇷 FROM COSTA RICA
MoreFor some a tourist trap, for others a must see while in Rio. Was told is an attraction that gets full all year round but it might have been the stars that during my visit there was plenty of room for everyone to enjoy. Astonishing views of Rio from up the Corcovado. Be respectful, regardless of your beliefs there’s a chapel that actually offers mass (catholicso use discretion if taking pictures of it. Ride the train, it’s worth the trip and the adventure if it’s your first time there. Please DO NOT feee the monkeys. Watch them but DO NOT try touching them. Don’t be that tourist
MoreOne of the most iconic places to visit. The newly refurbished train offers a lot of comfort on the way to the statue. The view is unique and I recommend going early as it is not very full, and the view only gets better as you are on top.
MoreWhat can I say, its world famous, you know it.You can get there by train, car, or hiking. Costs 50 reals to get in for foreigners.
MoreTake a train up, best experience, nice and steady. It stops few times, because of gorgeous landscape for passengers to enjoy a view ( apparently stops is important, because you will not see it from final destination), but be quick to make a pictures 🤪😄😜. Landmark breath taking!!! Rio is absolutely amazing, stunning, gorgeous city. Go on every mountain in Rio which are reachable and allowed to go. From Niteron city hill you will see all Rio and most beautiful sunset. Rio wait for me!!! Will come again for sure!!!:))))
MoreChrist the Redeemer (Portuguese: Cristo Redentor, standard Brazilian Portuguese: [ˈkɾistu ʁedẽˈtoʁ], local pronunciation: [ˈkɾiɕtŭ̥ xe̞dẽˈtoɦ]is an Art Deco statue of Jesus Christ in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, created by French sculptor Paul Landowski and built by Brazilian engineer Heitor da Silva Costa, in collaboration with French engineer Albert Caquot. Romanian sculptor Gheorghe Leonida fashioned the face. Constructed between 1922 and 1931, the statue is 30 metres (98 fthigh, excluding its 8-metre (26 ftpedestal. The arms stretch 28 metres (92 ftwide.[1][2] It is made of reinforced concrete and soapstone.[3][4][5] The Christ the Redeemer differs considerably from its original design. The initial plan was a large Christ with a globe in one hand and a cross in the other. Although the project organisers originally accepted the design, it later changed to the statue of today, with the arms spread out wide.
MoreA must... breathtaking. I recommend going as part of a tour, if youre not from Rio. Theres definitely a process, a series of queues to get up there. There are several gift shops and views above the clouds. There are lots of people up there, and monkeys 😊
MoreHow best to summarize this overly sensationalized landmark? It’s a wildly overcrowded tourist trap littered with selfie sticks and souvenir kiosks every 20 feet. Whatever enjoyment there is to be had of the statue or surrounding views is completely disrupted by the swaths of people clamoring for photos at every overlook. Imagine a theme park with no rides and only lines: this is it. There are better views to be had of Rio with less hassle. By all means go and judge yourself, but I’m confident you’ll be in agreement afterward.
MoreGreat place to visit, you cannot skip it when visiting Río de Janeiro. Tickets for its transport to the Top of the morro can be bought in the Internet. We visited before noon during winter and it was very hot, I would recommend visiting it early in the morning. You can also have a drink, Walter, Coffee or suco at a bar clase to the Christ, Souvenirs can also be bought there. An interesting detail is the accessibiliy, you have a train for going up the the Top, then an elevator and ramps everywhere. We loved the place!
MoreThe icon of the Brazil. . This is a must-see for everyone who visits Rio De Janeiro, you would never want to miss it which is Statue Cruises. You can purchase tickets at the Battery Park but I’d recommend you purchase it in advance. For it’s actually very reasonably priced. Make sure you go early because you will have to go through security at the port. Also take a look at the departure schedule available on the website to plan your trip accordingly. As for the Statue of Christ The Redeemer, it was my first time seeing it in person so what I could say was a wow. It was absolutely amazing to see this monument. I also purchased the pedestal access so it was pretty cool to see the inside of the statue. They’re not doing the Crown Access due to Covid-19 concerns, but I hope it will be resumed soon. There are a gift shop, a cafeteria and a museum. I would say it takes around 2-3 hours to do everything here because you would want to take as many photos as possible.I absolutely loved it here and I can’t wait to come back.
MoreAwesome experience... just do it, no trip to Rio is complete without visiting this sight. We had bad weather, but that just meant that we stayed longer to get the pictures....Trip on the tram up to the peak just made the trip more lf an adventure.Views for days.Expect stairs.
MoreDefinitely worth the views and the trip up the mountain. This isnt a whole day thing so it allows for more time onthe beach! 😊
MoreDefinitely worth the ride (or hikeup. If you have the choice, go during the off season (winteras it was crowded when I went on a weekday… I could only imagine a weekend summer visit. One more place happily marked off the bucket list.Oh and the views of RIO are spectacular as well
MoreThis is one of those places that the picture make no justice, you to see to believe absolutely breath taking, take the train up the mountain and enjoy the view.
MoreOne of the most beautiful place to visit in Rio de Janeiro. You take a train or taxi to reach here. The most photographed monument, Once you reach on top take the stairs and pray in church behind the statue. It was great experience visiting such a great place.
MoreIm not a religious soul... But this definitely sparked my spiritual side. A MUST SEE in Rio. I no longer wonder why its one of the seven wonders of the world.
MoreThe train ride is a bit slow. On the way up you realize you could have driven most of the way. Great views.
MoreReally worth a visit, once on top at Tijuca florest you gonna see a stunnig view no matters is a cloudy day. We went by train, i would say that also worth if you want to experiment a really tradicional reach to reach the top.
MoreI am from México 🇲🇽 and this experience was the best!First, is very simple - easy to obtain tickets by internet; the website is very user friendly. Second, they were punctual for the departure scheduled.Second, the view is amazing, people is so warm and even that I do not speak Portuguese people help you totaled photos. My recommendation: arrive early, first tickets of the day if possible, or arrive walking but for sure it will be a hard walk. If you can, hire a package with photos included. I didnt know but I think it worth it!The bad stuff: plenty of people, is impossible to have a picture without people around you.
MoreWell I know its one 7 wonders but to be honest the monument isnt impressive as you might think, tips check the weather before you plan to go there can be foggy and ruin the views, bring a hat if its sunny, I booked a tour including this and other 4 places and it was R150 + entrance ticket and transport so I think its a good deal since prices might differ according to the place you buy it (and I didnt know itofficial offices I meant, then go early as possible or latest as you can both would make your experience better, unfortunately when I visited it was more than overcrowded and to be honest couldnt enjoy that much, positive things, the views are insane those are the wonder place but you can also get those views in Morro dona Marta or in Pao do azucar trust me.
MoreAwesome experience to be there. Can be detailed as man made God (marvel). Not to be missed, marvellous place in Rio. View of Rio and sugar loaf mountain from the mountain top is wonderful and awesome.Statue is also visible from the coastline of Niteroi, from where you can see Sugar loaf mountain too. View after sunset is also wonderful, when the statue can be seen graced with white light. Amazing!!
MoreIts the symbol of Rio, the most photographed monument, the most beautiful view of Rio. The best option, in my opinion, its to go up with the train ( need to buy the ticket in advanceduring low season its not that crowded. Make sure to go on a clear sunny day so you can appreciate the breathtaking view of this marvelous city.
MoreBeautiful views and even though it’s busy you can get some amazing photos. The tram ride up is also very good and saves the legs. You just visit here if in rio.
MoreI love the place. It was my dream to go and it finally happened. We went with the train at 8:40, there were less people than expected but still kind of full. I recommend going as early as possible because afterwards its also insanely hot up.
MoreI went by uber, and was dropped in the middle of the way since only train can go up to the statue of Christ the Redeemer. I recommend that you buy the corcovado train ticket infront of the Praça Sao Judas Tadeu. From the station there it will go up to the first stop of estação paineres, and finally the christ redeemer. There is church at the bottom of the statue. There are restaurants and elevator. Tickets on May 2022 was 77.50 BRL per adult person for round trip.
MoreOne of the best places to visit in Rio. Transportation to reach the redentor can be challenging. Recommend visiting before 10a, can be very packed after. Alternative option to take a scenic train.
MoreThe train is really slow. Dont make your hopes up if there is one waiting at the station. The crew will not make you board it and youll need to wait 0.5 hr for the next one for no reason. The views are great, even after the sunset. Be prepared for the crowds.
MoreBeautiful views once you reach the top. There are souvenir shops and snacks/drinks at the bottom, near the top and at the top of the attraction.
MoreIt was great experience visiting such a soothing place.Never take any help from local 🕵 agents. They will take undue advantage of you. Buy your train ticket directly for the round trip and get on the train with no hestitation.Once you reach on top take the stairs and pray in church behind the statue. Always wait for clouds to clear and you will get the view. All the wait was worth the view.
MoreTop of the list for any Rio visit. The statue is a wonder of the world for a reason, and the views all around are absolutely breathtaking. Visit in the morning or evening for better photos, and relatively lesser crowds. Also, check weather in advance and visit on a clear day.
MoreIncredible landmark. You need to take a few shuttles here but it’s worth it (shuttles aren’t that long). An iconic statue for Brazil and there’s a TON of people. Place gets crowded with a ton of people trying to take good photos. Overall, a nice spot and is worth the visit.
MoreGreat place, time and view! Suggestion: Check the weather before getting the tickets online. I think it is much better to get the tickets presencial. In fact, u "can" re arranged in case it is cloudy!
MoreIt was breathtaking, it literally sucked the breathe out of my chest...it was crowded beyond capacity. I took my pics and headed back down to the restaurant level
MoreMust visit place during the stay in Rio de janeiro. However, majority of the time the attraction foggy. We went there when it was foggy because it was our last day in Rio and we couldnt see much. However, I really dont recommend visiting while it is foggy because you barely can see nothing.
MoreVery important must be visit if you in Rio de Janeiro, you can go up by train or there is small 🚐 good with air condition about 50 riyal for go and out, and there is small carThe view from top is incredibleThe ticket for foreign if its not the session 48 riyalAll the best
MoreSo I couldnt rate it 5 as the facilities, especially at the bottom, were poor and quite dated - and at the top limited. Compared to other sights (I.e. Sugar Loaf Mountthe standards fell short and it felt lazy. The weather was super unpredictable and for most of our stay was shrouded in cloud (I have no idea how common this is). Im sure it is spectacular but we had no view, could barely see the statue and winds so strong it was hard to stand straight in places - hope you have a better weather! (We still had a great time - the weather was so poor it was funny!)
MoreThe experience itself is quite nice. Theres a spectacular view of the city and good pictures with the Christ. The only part that made this experience a bit more stressful was the lack of covid restrictions. There were huge lines to get everywhere. Tickets should be sold online to avoid a huge group of people lining up inside or AT LEAST only allow one person per group inside so there isnt that many people.
MoreBeautiful view of the city! Dont leave Rio without coming here. Try to get early so it is less busy.
MoreOne of the major landmarks in Brazil, though quite overly touristic as expected. The easiest way to get to the top is to get the train. The other method of getting two transfers up is a massive hassle and in my opinion not worth the marginal saving. The views are fantastic and breathtaking. There are lots of touristic concessions but these can easily be ignored to enjoy the experience.
