Chou Chou - Modern French restaurant in Taipei, Taiwan
Chou Chou in Taipei
Description
Privilege
The interior design is beautiful. The food is decent. The tastes are ok in general. Me and my friend shared one of the dishes and asked for a small plate so we can split it, the waiter said they do not give empty plates to share, which is very odd.
MoreHad a very pleasant experience here. Thumbs up for the service team! Food are amazing! Each dishes are unique and taste completely beyond my expectation! Very worth to try their winter tasting menu. Would definitely come back again for the next season. 🥂
Morefood is fresh and delicious
good food & good ambience. perfect for a date night/anniversary dinner. very recommended.
MoreThe food is alright. Barely acceptable. Totally overpriced. Not sure what the wine pairing is trying to achieve there. Unnecessary. Service was without soul. Two stars for edible food.To be fair, the abalone and foie gras was good.
MoreIt was delicious beyond words can express. Highly recommended to everyone especially if you’re bringing you loved ones
MoreFrench style with variations on taste and display. When walking the restaurant you could feel that the chef is trying to Impress you by the atmosphere and the interior design as well. A big painting on the wall makes you feel interesting and want to know more about this place. After feeling curious, then comes the good taste of appetizer, entree and the dessert. A three course set is enough for you to think of it often. Must try it.
Moredelicious and delicate food with great service!
Presentation: 4Taste: 3Atmosphere: 1Service: 4Total: 2.5Came here on a Monday night for a nice dinner to send off a friend who was leaving the country for a few months. Within 10 minutes of being seated, before we even received our first drinks, the manager came over to tell us that another table was complaining we were too loud. Sure, we were a little excited to have a nice night and good food, but were not decibels louder than any other table. We also happened to be the youngest table there and speaking in English. That put a damper on the mood.We ordered the middle set menu with a choice of 4 different mains as well as the cheeseboard. We all agreed that the crab tartlet amuse bouche and the kampachi beetroot salad were good. I liked the foie gras and my main of lamb. My friends enjoyed their fish and steak as well but thought the uni orzo with scallops was so-so. Presentation of the food was great, it all looked delicious, but half the dishes were average. There were three desserts on the menu and three of us so we ordered one of each and shared. The desserts were all substandard. The creme brulee was a flan, there was no brulee at all and it was very bitter. The chocolate cake was alright as was the almond souffle but instantly forgettable.Other than being "scolded" by the manager, the service was pretty good. Attentive but not intrusive and they explained each dish in Mandarin and English for my friends. Cocktails took longer than expected to arrive considering the number of tables but it was fine.In total with drinks, the middle menu, and the cheeseboard I spent just under NT$10K. I had been excited about trying this restaurant group but I wont be back to Chou Chou and I dont think Ill be trying any other of their other restaurants (Wildwood, Longtail). If you want an austere, well plated, but mediocre dinner in silence this is the restaurant thatll cater to you. If not, there are far better restaurants on that block in the same price range.
MoreI am amazed by the entire restaurant. The server was incredibly nice and took the time to introduce each dish. The price for a set was extremely agreeable, and each dish was lovely and created a perfect dinner. I am also in love with the modern and chic decor, and the restaurant was larger than I expectedIn the set menu, I had a escargot tart, crispy duck leg, and a hazelnut souffle. Everything was delicately put together and the flavors were intense and delicious. The dishes were unique and I had a blast spending my night there. All in all, a great experience I would recommend to those visiting Taipei
MoreExtremely delicious! Very nice service!
Perfectly balanced fine dining meal with the most tenderest steak and lamb that I’ve ever had!
MoreGreat dinning environment for family and friends gathering. We had great time celebrating my wifes birthday here. Delicious foods and wonderful services. Definitely we will be back again.
MoreIt was a good course franch meal and we ordered a Yiran duck as a main which is aged 14days. Staffs were kind enough and pretty professional thought the staff who served was a new to the chou chou team but not the floor manager or staff in charge was kind enough. Anyway it was not really a big deal anyone in Taipei should enjoy their meal. Lunch course is really affordable price and be aure that duck is only available for diner or special request in advance for lunch.Make sure to have around 2.5hrs meal time ~You will be super satisfied 😜 with their course meal of you order at least 4~5 course.Cheers.
MoreI dont usually leave reviews but I had a wonderful lunch today. Very Impressed with service by the servers today. Professionalism displayed with the touch of friendliness which was perfect. They were on the ball with what we requested. The entrée (the escargot)was just right. My main course which was the beef tenderloin was perfectly prepared, which entirely surprised me. One of the best few Ive had so far.My partner had the duck for his main course and it was good. The crispy skin went well with soft millet.Definitely will visit again.Thank you for the great experience.
MorePretty good overall but was not thrilled with the foie gras here—a bit gamey for my taste and I normally love foie gras. We went for the 5-course lunch and I really liked the fish entrée and the oolong soufflé dessert to finish. Normally not a huge fan of soufflé but I enjoyed this one.
MoreOverall was good. The service could be better.
Excellent quality food and superb service. The duck was very tender and succulent, the salad on a potato base was delicious, I highly recommend this restaurant.
Morewe had the lunch set here, tender duck leg and good seasoning, dessert was also delicious. Overall a good experience
MoreVery good value 1 star French cuisine
The service was really good, but cuisine extremely underwhelming, especially considering the price. The roasted chicken was decent, everything else just tasted like something I wouldnt want to eat again....Better to spend your money at GEN or one of the other non-star Michelen-rated places.
MoreLunch menu: good to try, but nothing more then that. There were four of us and we have managed to try the majority of lunch menu dishes. In total the bill was 5400NT assuming that we almost didn’t order any alcohol (only 1 glass of their cheap wine). I would give them 7/10 which is ok, but nothing more then that.Good:In general all food tasted nice, there were lots of interesting combinations and I couldn’t say of anything it was not tasty (except onion soup - it’s really so so, don’t recommend). The desert that was Tieguan Yin mousse was wonderful! Not good:They say of themselves that it is a French restaurant, but it’s quite far from authentic french cuisine. When you pay at least 1500 NT per person (assuming you don’t order any alcohol or extra price dishesyou expect something more then just tasty meal. Conclusion: good to try, nice atmosphere and high qualified staff that can speak English and able to describe to you in details the specification of each dish.
MoreAs close as you can get to an authentic French bistro experience in Taiwan, good food, but above all, excellent service, friendly, unobtrusive and relaxed, no pretenses. Prices are reasonable for the ambience, lunch menu is really good value. Tried Taiwanese Champagne for the first time
MoreNice place & good foodGreat wine collection
Had a great time eating at Chou Chou for birthday celebration. The restaurant atmosphere is elegant and cosy. The staff is attentive. The food is good even though we found some of the dishes a bit too salty. The Tartare was delicious and I highly recommend it ! The staff was nice enough to offer us 10% discount (cancel service feebecause the table next to us was extremely noisy (another birthday party).
MoreGood place for celebration.Very expert restaurant and service.
Been here many times, and quality is going steadily downhill such that I wont be going back anytime soon. The food is just ok, nothing exceptional about them. The seafood dishes were especially weak. The prawns was rather disappointing, as it doesnt have the succlent sweetness I look for (probably frozen), and the fish was badly sauced. The open kitchen was nice, but its negative points are becoming obvious, with the noisy kitchen clanging noise coming through. Maybe they should encase it in glass like Tairroir and Orchid to cut off the noise, or set it well away from the dining area like Chefs Club. The tables are set a bit too close for my liking, and if you have a noisy neighbor, it gets distracting. There are better choices out there.
MoreGreat food with nice atmosphere.
Wonderful experience for my date. The food was excellent and presented amazingly. The dessert was superb. Well worth it paying for this experience. Nice environment and layout for seating. Well trained staff to attend to customers.
MoreI came here for my birthday celebration. Food are good and service are professional.
MoreNice restaurant with modern design. Too crowded resulting in very noisy, especially table neyxt to you feel like having a private party. Food is good but not amazing. Suauce or garnish at Two of four courses didnt match well. High quality of culinary but the design of dish needs to balance.
MoreFood are excellent. Staff are very attentive and nice. Atmosphere is great especially customers could directly see the open kitchen from tableside. Food are not overpriced. Definitely will come back again.
MoreWorth of the chefs Michelin star reputation. Food is excellent and service is great. Prix fixe menu is 1488, tasting menu 2888. Extensive wine menu.Starters and entrées were excellent, I thought the main courses were only above average. Dessert was great. On the way out staff was setting the table with a ruler, measuring distance for plate and utensils. This place has high standards and strive for consistency. Will visit again soon. Overall great dinner experience.
MoreNice dining experience for my first visit. I believe they spent lots of time to prepare the food for us. Food looks simple but taste is not simple. To be honest set lunch price is reasonable. If you expect to find how special ingredients in the menu or to be treated like dining in 3 Michelin restaurant, I would say please don’t go. But you definitely can find the delicious meal and comfortable atmosphere there.
MoreGreat food with very good service.1To begin with, their bread and salad were very enjoyable. Though the bread wasnt hot, the texture and taste were both good.2I had the octopus salad. The texture was different from what Im used to. Its not as chewy but was still good. The sauce was slightly sour.3fried frog legs. This was really good. Probably a French Taiwanese fusion dish. The BBQ sauce corn especially reminded me of the corn in Taiwan.4pork cheek with lasagna and radish. They mentioned that it was supposed to have a strong taste but I thought it was OK. I also got to try the steak. If you eat beef, I recommend the steak.5dessert: chocolate tart, soufflé, and apple pie. Although they got the event wrong, they immediately gave us an apple pie as an apology. The apple pie was the best out of the three. All of them were enjoyable. In terms of the pricing, it is on the expensive end but not extremely expensive. Worth it for special events.
MoreFood is good, just a bit too salty for me. Deco is good, location is great.
The food was fantastic and the staff were really professional and caring, they introduced each dishes properly. We had a lovely evening. Ill definitely come back. Thank you.
MoreI was excited to try Chou Chou but was underwhelmed. Atmosphere is cool, looked like it would be good. Service was trying to be good but it lacked confidence of the food and wine they’re serving you. I excitedly ordered the bone marrow but was quite disappointed. Good marrow would melt on top of bread...theirs was undercooked so it turned out more like fatty stuff you can’t spread. Overall, meh...wasn’t the worst but wasn’t enough to bring me back
MoreCasual French restaurant with good wines and creative recipes.
Nice presentations, but that’s about it. Average food.
“Tasty but the portions are inadequate and expensive. The service is cold. Worthy of a first visit but I would not possibly be coming back a second time”..............................This was written on Tuesday, 5 days ago. During this spade of time, I came back 2 more times. The place is truly amazing. They have the same weekday business lunch menu (and priceduring the weekends.
MoreGood service, extraordinary setting and deco. We ordered duck leg and steak tasty but would be better if with less salty. Price is quite fair.
MoreNot particularly good food. It wanted to be a twist on French food, but missed the mark. Dishes were generally overcooked and lacked in flavour. Service was ok.If youre traveling in Taiwan, there definitely better place to eat and for better prices.
MoreCozy place and nice food ! Beautiful kitchen ~
The duck and the apple pie are awesome. Great ambiance and service.
Totally overpriced .... food quality and service didnt match the price we paid for. It was very noisy too...I felt like Im just at some cheap steak restaurant. My own Costco boneless short rib tastes better than their +$900 wagyu come on!!This kind of food quality ruined my birthday.....
Moreonion soup was severely burnt and not caramelized as it should and said on menu, and super dry and salty filet mignon steak i thought i was eating beef jerky. aging process gone very bad probably. beef tartar and lemon pie were alright. the bread was the best of the 1800ntd meal. there isnt a zero star option?
MoreLiked the atmosphere. Food is pretty good.
The atmosphere here is awesome. food is nice.
Great ambiance and food. Great value also!
