Chongqing Zoo in Dongdu
Description
I love communism.
A remarkable place to visit in Chongqing. I took a cab from HolidayInn Express to the Zoo and returned via a monorail. My main focus was to see the cute Pandas and I was lucky to see them.Since I was early to the Zoo when most of the chinese were either going for a walk, Zumba ecercises, etc, I could just walk in without paying any entry fees....although I was prepared to pay but there was no one to collect it from me.I saw many birds and animals including a white tiger but above all it was the Panda that I was after which I managed to see at last. So cute and beautiful. I liked their innocence and the gesture which they conveyed to me. Just loved it.
More* In Chongqing Zoo, green hills, limpid water, luxuriant trees and a large variety of animals make a picturesque landscape. Housing more than 230 species of animals, over 4,000 in total, there are herbivores, amphibious animals, wild animals, birds and fishes, living in the visiting areas, such as Tiger Hill, Bear Hill, Gorilla House, Deer Park, Kangaroo Park, Elephant House, Panda House, Goldfish House and Birds Paradise. The Panda House was built in 1989, and is based on the original Panda Cave. The distinctive design of gardens provides and imitates the natural environment for the pandas. There are hills, rocks, caves, streams, waterfalls, pavilions and parterre for the pandas to enjoy. You can also see some rare animals like the Yakin, argali, South China tiger, golden cat, clouded leopard, and Asian elephant in the park.* There is also an amusement park, dry skating arena, outdoor stage, restaurants and tea house in the Chongqing Zoo. The amusement park is suitable for children and adults, with some joyful items like carousel and mini-train riding and thrilling items like inertia pulley and Splash Water. Next to the amusement park is a science classroom, suitable for children between 3 and 12 years old, where they can watch animal movies, make paper-cut, paint pictures and read animal science books for free.* Located at Yangjiaping of the Jiulongpo District of Chongqing City, Chongqing Zoo is 8 km (5 milesfrom the city center. It was first built in 1953 and officially opened to the public in 1955. Covering an area of 45 hectares (111 acres), it is not only an attractive place for animals visiting, but also an important base for the protection and research of the immigrant wild animals.🐼 🐼 🐼Thanks For Watching 🙂!————————
MoreIf you love Pandas it is a must see.
Got to see 16 pandas in their private enclosure
PANDAS! RED PANDAS! XINXING! Try to get there in mid-morning to see some of the pandas very active. Dont plan on parking. There is a station for public transportation just outside. When visiting Chongqing, it is a must-see.
MoreAwesome! Never seen a real Panda, up close or even its babies until now!
Some exhibits need attention but so do all zoos. A cool place to relax and meet people. Oh and Pandas.
MoreGreat to see pandas in their natural surroundings and looking very happy and relaxed. Other animals very interesting to see.
MoreCome early in the morning, better before 10 a.m. to see panda eat breakfast unless that panda will SLEEP and its turn back to you . The grown up panda wont move much.
MoreIf youre from the West this zoo will most likely not meet your standards. Animals are in small cages with not a lot to do.
MoreYou can see real panda here
Decent zoo to visit. The giant pandas are cool.
Great gardens and nice gift shop
Fantastic pandas!
Beautiful and rare animals but the enclosures leave something to be desired. The Chongqing Zoo has plenty of rare and beautiful animals. I was impressed to see that they had 2 white tigers and quite a few giant pandas. The food and amusements are also very affordable. With that being said, the enclosures left something to be desired. A lot of them lacked proper security. It wouldnt be hard to climb over some of the gates. Also, the conditions of some enclosures were quite hard to look at, especially the bird and bear enclosures. They were literally just cement boxes. The zoo doesnt have the animals best interest in mind. They were even selling little chickens DYED PINK to tourists. If this zoo could update their facilities and be more mindful about their animals, it wouldve been a much better experience.
MoreIt is not a zoo.Very less animal
Beautiful grounds. Lots of pandas.
The most thing I like is Panda. Not much as Chengdu but you still able to see their activities. I think there is around 10 pandas here.
MoreWas a cold day when I went to the zoo in chongqing, but was early enough to catch the feeding time of the multiple pandas they have onsite. So glad I listened to my friend that had gone there before me about what time to go. My family that was with me had a blast watching the pandas eat and even though they were cold, they had a wonderful time.
MoreWe had a wonderful time at the panda enclosure. It was very crowded at the zoo but the pandas were up and active be and fun to observe.
MoreBeautiful to see the Pandas...
The zoo was well maintained and gardens well immaculate. The Pandas were awesome
MoreNice and big zoo!
Cheap entrance of 25RMB makes this a great value experience that you can spend a couple hours at.
Morevery interesting very big, arrange 3 hours for tour
Amazing place, saw my first panda!
Panda and red panda among the key attractions
What an amazing zoo. I strongly recommend coming here and planning on staying for the day. We only had a few hours and it wasnt nearly enough time to see it all. I love the baby pandas
MorePandas!! What more can you say?? Adorable pandas!
Really nice place to go. You need at least one day to visit.
Really cool to see all the different Pandas!! Beautiful gardens and even western toilets!
MoreGreat opportunity to view panda bears.
Just like others zoo
Great place to see Pandas
Amazing zoo garden with very interesting panda
Worst zoo experience I’ve ever had in my life. Do not go to this zoo unless you are comfortable with seeing animals distressed, alone, and treated badly by other visitors.Chongqing Zoo is supposedly an important place for the research and protection of immigrant animals but this is clearly a sham. Upon arrival, the zoo looked accomodating and clean, there were no litter on the gardens and the trees and grass were well maintained. However when ventured further, it becomes apparent that everything and anything good about the zoo ends when animals are in sight. The animals looked miserable and very clearly uncomfortable as many - such as the elephant, bear, and zebra were left on their own. These animals had no accompanying partner but were instead, left to be viewed by loud, jeering spectators on their own. It was becoming very obvious that although the zoo itself was kept clean and well cared for, this stopped when it came to the animals. Not one zoo keeper was in sight during my walk around the zoo; there were no keepers there to stop the visitors pouring a bottle of Sprite into the bear’s mouth nor was there a keeper on site stopping visitors from throwing candied caramel popcorn at an elephant. This was very distressing and made my experience extremely unpleasant to such an extent that I did not feel right being in the zoo and taking part in the experience thus left early. It is very unfortunate to know that although the people were being accommodated, the animals were left on their own in horrible conditions.A visitor like myself should not have to scold others for pouring sprite or throwing popcorn into animal enclosures. This zoo needs moreZoo keepers to prevent such mistreatment from happening.Unless changes are made in favour of the animals and their wellbeing, I strongly urge potential visitors to rethink their decision to visit the zoo and contribute money to such an atrocious establishment.Edit l: if I could vote a 0, I would.
MoreVery nice for pandas and other animals. Some animals seem stressed though. Dinosaur world is quaint and great for younger kids. Lots of statuary
MoreBetter views of the Pandas than Beijing. Also white 🐅 and many other animals. A large, clean, well marked zoo.
MoreNothing more worth than a couple white tiger and pandas to see. Dont get me wrong, there are plenty of animals to see but kept in not bright conditions. They say the Chengdu zoo is better. If you are in town and have a kid, id say check it out. Not worth for only adults.
MorePandas were out eating.
Best spot to view pandas in a zoo setting. Well done habitats.
The several pandas were housed at the very entrance of zoo, making it convenient. The rest was a bit disappointing. There is a cute robotic dinosaur display area.
MoreLovely zoo with pandas
The best zoo and love the Panda House
A basic zoo with poor enclosures and little for the animals to do.
Lots of variety, minus a star for some dirty and ugly exhibits, but generally quite nice
MoreNot the greatest zoo Ive ever been to, but the pandas here are great!
Nice place to see some Panda. But the animals looks not really happy.
Very sad place. Animal cruelty!
