Chipangali Wildlife Orphanage - Wildlife Refuge in Gwanda, Zimbabwe
Its beautiful place, ideal to go with children. They have different types of animals.
Healthy animals and safe
We had a great day with our Zimbabean family members in the Chipangali Wildlife Orphanage!I really appreciate that someone takes care of the animals that got injured an need support.I can only invite my fellow tourists to come and see what a beautiful place the orphanage is 🥰Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪
Great experience for the kids, though I wish they had knowledge boards for all the various animals.
Seeing the wild animals of one might not have seen
It was ok. Was impressed with the wildlife.
It was amazing l love it
Great place for family outing but with few animals now I guess its cause of the Pandemic, besides that the place still have the vibe.My kids enjoyed their day..
Great place and work being done to rehabilitate and take care of the orphaned and sick animals. However the place has no guide to walk you through and explain. Some enclosures no longer have labels thus difficult for some to ID the animals by name. The lady at the front desk where you pay is almost not always there, its either she is in the kitchen, or outside cleaning. Im not sure if theyre understaffed. You can pay in USD but always carry loose change as that can be a challenge. I would have given 5 stars but I wont because of no guide, poorly attended reception and a very limited menu at the kitchen.
A fun facility place, encounter with lions and crocodiles!
Disappointed to see volunteers banging on the fences and shouting at leopards and lions to move.
Loved the bird Sanctuary . Birds of prey are a rare sight in Zim
Perfect place, good for kids who like to experience all wild animals closer. With its Zoo like experience, wonderful adventure for whole family
It would have been more interesting if there are any info on the reason why they ate there.. thank you
Friendly staff, lovely spot to get in touch with wildlife and nature
The animals well taken care of though putting wild animals in a cage its unAfrican.
A wonderful and educational family activity. A beautiful initiative helping to rehabilitate orphans and sick animals.
Especially if you come to visit this place, dont forget your childrens with you...its quite enjoyable.
If you want to learn more about wildlife this is yo place... Ask for a tour guide then yu will enjoy yo visit ☺️
Best place to spent your weekends
A chilled place to spend the day with family and get educated on the beauty of wildlife.Place has a healthy assortment of wild animals but could still do more, though it is in fact an orphanage and not a zoo.
I loved this place . So many wild animals . Hyenas lions leopards and the birds the birds
Nice place to visit with your loved ones, friends and Family. Great experience, we saw lions, cheetahs, hyenas, kangaroo, kudu, leopard and all many other domesticated animals.
It was fun watching the animals but the service was poor,we came back with the money we wanted to donate because of the poor service
We had a wonderful experience. It was misty, a close encounter with the animals, all of their staff are kind from the general hand workers to the administration. A special shout out to a lady named Kara, she was busy but we asked for help and she took her time to guide and educate us about the snake section. She’s truly passionate and dedicated to her work. We will definitely visit again and refer our friends.
Great experience! With the limited funding they receive they have managed to keep a wide variety of animals!Had the opportunity to go during feeding time for the lions. Was a totally different experience! But it went past just lions! Kept a vast variety of animals! Would recommend. The upkeep of the place is difficult with the limited funding, but it is still well maintained.
The animals really didnt have enough space here. I understand that some of them have to be kept in captivity - but they need more room. It made me sad to think such beautiful wild and large abimals will spend their lives trapped like that. That said the team there are doing their best to help release animals, but I think more could be done, perhaps they need more funding. Overall I wouldnt recommend a visit here, as it left me feeling very down.
This wildlife orphanage offers a great opportunity for children & adults to see wild animals up close. We saw lions, leopards, crocodiles, turtles, tortoises, monkeys, snakes, eagles, jackals, kudu, wild pig... and more.As we engage with our wildlife in this way we can think and talk more about what contributions we can make individually to conservation.
I recently went to Chipangali after a period of nearly 15 years and I must admit that its good to see the place is still up and running, all thanks to the dedicated staff who are doing a tremendous job in maintaining it. Its a hidden little gem about 30 minutes (approxfrom Bulawayo CBD along the Bulawayo - Beitbridge highway. Very much ideal for school trips as groups of children can view up close and learn about animals of the wild. It was quiet when we got there but good enough for us to spend some time studying each animal of interest. Although most fit animals are released into the wild after rehabilitation and recovery, some become permanent residents of the park as they were rescued after having sustained serious permanent injuries. The animal cages are well-constructed and fortified with safety in consideration and the walkways are very clean and well-labelled. One can get to see various species of monkeys, serval cat, leopards, lions, hyena, crocodiles, guinea pigs and a plethora of birds. It would be good, though, to have labels on each enclosure just so the public is more educated on the species each enclosure is housing and maybe a little information desk with some information on the animals tge park currently shelters. Dont mind the slight lurking smell especially around carnivore Lane (its from the leftover bones they leave behind after meat consumption). We were fortunate enough to witness the feeding of the lions and managed to capture the experience on camera and you would otherwise pay for in other parks. Theres also a curio spot on your way towards the exit. We were unfortunate we didnt get to see what was on sale as it was raining and had to take shelter. Otherwise on a good day, do bring along a picnic/packed lunch to enjoy in the designated area which the staff will show you.More can be done in terms of funding so I strongly encourage visiting the place be it you are from far and wide or within the nearby vicinity and crave being close to nature.
An initiative that needs more funding. While the animals are still healthy, one feels that more could be done. Still a great experience for all age groups and close to the CBD.
It was cosyI feel like you could increase the number of kudus& warthog because they seem lonely!Otherwise the lion experience was the best for me!I had a refreshing day😊
Chipangali offers a refreshing experience in viewing the animals in a relaxed environment
I think something must be done to kill the unpleasant smells, otherwise its a wonderful place to visit. I didnt hate the place though. I actually loved it. I feel the birds need bigger cages though, especially the owls.
It was a great experience especially for my 3year old son who loves animals,so taking him there was the best especially that he stays in another country so it was bonding time for us
Not as grand as its heyday, dilapidation and lack of funding only a sign of the country’s strugglesHaving said that, the animals they do have a captivating as always, well looked after and worth going to see for kids and adults alikeIf there’s ever an animal orphanage that needs support this is it
Great place to see a variety of animals. Could use some guides (people or paperto help you through the park
I would give it a lesser mark because fkr me Chipangali has changed a lot, animals will be animals but the area is not well kept sinve the late Vivian Wilson who had passion for place, well some animals myt have been taken to the ZITF but i will tell you the owner went with his Place. There was litter outside by the Parking lot...it needs someone with passion for wildlife, someone Clean...am not happy.
Great experience. Kids enjoyed everything especially the close experience with the lions.
Caged wild animals, everything from raptors to reptiles. It’s an orphanage in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, and as the name suggests, they take care of orphaned animals as well as some that were found to be injured or sick. The brochure says that they eventually return some of them to the wild after they become fit to survive on their own. Surprisingly large number of lions, some of the biggest I’ve ever seen. Structural maintenance of the place seems to be a challenge to the owners. And it just seems sad for some of those animals to be locked up in cages for a really long time. Otherwise, quite a wide display of wildlife.
Great place to go, for a say trip, has lots of animals, entry is $5 US for Adults and $3 for kids.
Love the work the guys are doing here...
Beatiful please for know the wild life.
A charitable wild life rehabilitation sanctuary situated within 15 minutes drive from Bulawayo City. Teaming with different species of wild life under different stages of rehabilitation. A must visit for the lovers of animal welfare and charity.
Value for money in an otherwise struggling economy. You see most of what you expected to see. With the added thrill of rickety-looking but strong fences keeping you on edge 😂. Lions Leopards, hyena, etc. reat photo spots, and maintained well
Well maintained animal orphanage.
Very friendly place with variety of animals. In need of some investment, but has toilets and place where you can eat... the main attraction definitely were the lions, theres quite few of them there, and you will get goose bumps when they start to roar ! :Quite liked snakes too, few were quite aggressive which made it more interesting.. Oh, and careful around monkeys, they will try and grab you or your stuff :)
My son loves it, helpful staff, could do with more info on animal cages for unassisted tours but every chance we get we go there
Great place to visit wildlife up close, get great photos and stay safe. There is a lot of bush in Africa but its not always safe to go into the bush but this allows you to see several of the big 5 up close. The area is usually not busy and has a good family friendly zoo like attitude. Definitely worth visiting again.
Its a great place for taking a day out. However over the years, the number of animals kept within the area has dropped. So you might circle the entire place in less than an hour. Theres a great stall that sells souvenirs and curios, make sure you save up.
The staff and volunteers are doing great job, whenever i visit this place , it gives me joy to see wildlife being taken care of and returned to its original place if it has any challenges to survive. And those which are not fit to go back to the wild always taken care of... And its a good place to visit with family , friends ,workmates, school, church groups etc.. And big up to the touring staff , they always give you full details about any the animals they have.... keep the good work guys..For everyone with young ones, you should take them here and it will be a memory to remember.
