Chinese Village - Chinese restaurant in Santa Cruz, United States
What a nice people!!! Great food and good service! Thanks guys!!!
The best Ive had in a long time. Full of flavor, wonderful customer service, and decent prices.
The best food in the 831 area. Everything is so fresh the honey walnut shrimp and chicken fried rice is so delicious. The egg rolls are the best part they are fresh and come with orange sweet sauce.
Best Chinese restaurant in the Santa Cruz area. Our favorite. Great lunch specials until 4pm!
This is a very good Chinese restaurant with fair prices. They are in the midst of getting a beer and wine license and that will be a really nice addition. The restaurant itself is very comfortable and nicely decorated.
Food was very good. The shrimp egg foo young and beef fried rice was just right...not salty.
This is my favorite Chinese restaurant in the Santa Cruz area. The food is always excellent, their prices are reasonable, and the owner, Sally, has created a warm friendly atmosphere here.
My friend took me here and it was delicious had potstickers egg rolls chicken chow fun shrimp chow mein n some other stuff huge portions super clean and delicious and great service
A little funky with the service. Waitress was a bit cold. Food was plentiful but basic. I dont think the meat is made up there. Was like buffet food from overseas. When it got cold it was very chewy. But veggies are fresh.Price was good. But no alcohol even though it is on the menu?
I tried this place because it had the best reviews for Chinese food near me. 110% would never go back. As soon as we walked in there was a lady sitting at a table eating, a kid in her pajama sweats taking an order at a table for someone else and a cook who looked right at us and said nothing. The lady sitting at the table looked at us a couple times before she came to help us and had an attitude the whole time. The pricing itself was disappointing. $10.99 for JUST orange chicken. I can go to any other Chinese place and they offer fried rice and chow mein with your entrees for $12. I said screw it and ordered the orange chicken anyways and my fiance orders a combination plate (they had only pork combo plates not chicken). We get our food and my orange chicken ended up being chicken with the orange sauce on the side for me to pour myself. The orange sauce was dark brown and super watery it was just a mess and for them to put it in a paper container just ended up more of a mess when it started leaking through the seems. My fiance opens his plate and they gave him a very small portion of sweet and sour pork (about 4-5 small shrived up prices of porkand a pile of sweet and sour sauce.. and the rest of the plate was dominated with rice and chow mein. They also didnt have forks so we had to drive up the street and grab forks from KFC. Between the ladies attitude and the disappointment in the food we definitely wont be coming back
I AM NOT KIDDING WHEN I SAY THAT THIS IS THE VERY BEST CHINESE FOOD EVER I HAVE EATEN..THE FLAVORS BURST IN UR MOUTH..I CANT SAY WHAT WAS BEST BECAUSE IT WAS ALL PERFECTION AUTHENTIC AND WONDERFUL..THE ATMOSPHERE WAS Humbly WELCOMING..THE SERVICE WAS EXACTLY WHAT U WOULD EXPECT FOR A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE...THE PORTIONS WERE MORE THAN GENEROUS..AND THE PRICES WERE MORE THAN BUDGET FRIENDLY...IF U LOVE CHINESE FOOD HERE IS UR FIND IN SANTA CRUZ... CLEARLY THE BEST I HAVE FOUND ever AND I WILL ORDER OUT AND DINE IN MANY TIMES.. over I am sure ..ORDER TO GO BEFORE 8:30 PM..A FIND A TRUE FIND
Great Chinese food. Been coming here for years. Nice owners/pleasant staff. Good value. Hard to go wrong with this place! I like the Wor Wonton Soup a lot. Nice that they have chili oil and spicy sauce. I always love coming here when I’m in town.
Food was good, however they charged my card multiple times with different unauthorized amounts. Called the next day to rectify this with them and was hung up on multiple times. Had to just call the bank and have charges reversed. Sad because the food was good for what it was.Principle alone, I will not go back.
After all these years we just discovered this place and they have the most yummiest sauces and food and very friendly sweet service!!!Thank you!!!
The food tastes fine except it’s a bit too greasy and savory. Good value for the money. The food tastes better than Panda but not as good as the authentic Chinese food from Silicon Valley.
The food was okay. Nothing great that made us want to go back but it wasnt the worst weve had from town.
The service has gone down unfortunately. Great food still but service not like the old days.
My family has been going to Chinese Village for over 30 years. Started with my Mom and now 3 generations later we all continue to go there. Both in their original location and the current one. I take my grandkids there all the time. It is our “go to” Chinese food place. Love their hot and sour soup! I can’t say I’ve had a bad thing there, all is good. Most of the dishes they make I have not found to be as good anywhere else. It is family owned and operated. I really like that and they are so welcoming and friendly that you feel that they are your friends serving you good, good for you medicinally too, food. I recommend them highly.
Sally is the greatest. Salt and pepper chicken wings are not be missed
High quality authentic flavor for excellent value prices. Maybe the best Ive had in Santa Cruz all the way down to Monterey.
Lunch specials, everyday, including weekends, under $9 and $8!!! The food was authentic and delicious. We enjoyed the garlic chicken chow mein and the eggplant with chicken over steamed rice. There is plenty of free parking behind the restaurant.
Ive been going to Chinese Village since I was a little kid in the early 80s when it was at its old location on Portola. The food is outstanding! Ive ordered many dishes and theyve all been awesome. Some of my favorites are Kung Pao chicken, beef broccoli, garlic chicken chow mein, Mongolian beef, house pork, hot & sour soup is the best Ive ever had, and the egg rolls are tasty & inexpensive. The portions are massive and everything is super affordable. Its one of the few places you can get a lunch special for $6-7. Sally and everyone there are always so nice too. This place really is a local gem. 🍚🍜🐲🇨🇳
I order takeout approx once a week. The food is very good and the staff is very cordial. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys Chinese food.
Each time I visit the quality is consistent and great. From their lunch special menu the Sallys Special is great if you like your greens with plenty of garlic and ginger. Its always worth trying something new there or asking for a recommendation. The house brewed black tea is also great.
We ordered the number 3 family special for take out. I could barely eat any of it. First of all, it was cold. The chicken chow mean had no flavor, and the bbq pork was disgusting! The sweet and sour pork was not edible at all. I’m not sure how they get 5 stars from other customers, they’ve never had authentic Chinese food. I will never go back, and will tell people to never go there.
First time here on vacation. Im always sketchy about trying Chinese for the first time but this is now a must stop when were here. Staff is super friendly and thorough with your order. Food was EXCELLENT! Potstickers, egg rolls, cream cheese wontons and the absolute must was the garlic chicken chow mein!
Orange chicken lunch specialwasmissing the Specialness;such as flavorandproper texture. The batteraround the chicken pieces was frieduntill it reached the point of a walnut shell!hard as a rock terrible and the hot and sour soup was full of cornstarch and disgusting. Im not going back there ever again.
This is a very clean, respectful and locally owned restaurant. My first time going, just opening the food made me happy, it looked amazing. It tasted amazing too, I have come back multiple times now, same service and quality every time.
Great food. I was very disappointed in the lady serving me I was helping a friend get dinner that didnt have money. Hes in recovery and I had only enough money on a card to pay for the dinner. I kindly thanked her and as I was walking out she singled me out and asked me if her service wasnt good enough and I replied yes and that I was taking someone out for dinner who didnt have money and when I told her that she just dismissed me. Well all that I can say is I probably will not spend my hard earned money there again.
My favorite Chinese restaurant ever!! The food is amazing and the wait staff makes me so happy to be there. Even when I order take out I always order in the restaurant because the atmosphere is relaxing and everybody is so nice. If you havent tried Chinese village, do yourself a favor and stop by! My favorite is the garlic chicken chow mein but everything is delicious 😋
Outstanding and long-established local Chinese Restaurant on Capitola Rd. Great food, friendly and efficient service, and impeccably clean, updated dining room with plenty of tables.
Been going for many years. Good food, reasonable price. Same family has owned it for as long as as I have been eating there. When I am feeling a little ill, I go in for the seaweed soup, it always has me feeling better 🤗🙏
Great service and Super friendly stuff ! Delicious , tastey Chinese food ! Been coming here for over 10 years and they never fail to satisfy 👍
Not good today. Chicken not fully cooked; kung poaThey took my plate back to kitchen and picked out the chicken and cooked it more. Took a long time. When the plate came back the rice was cold as well as sqaush. I was extremely unhappy with the way they treated the situation..I am (wasa long time, regular customer. Bummed. Im a good tipper--
I ordered hot and sour soup and kung pao chicken to go. The hot and sour soup was okay but the Kung Pao chicken was just a mess of over cooked zucchini and some tasteless meat. Im not sure it was chicken, it was inedible. A complete waste of money!
My family has been eating here for 20 years. Great food that sets the bar for other casual Chinese restaurants. Sally has great relationships with her regulars.
This place is a great local Chinese restaurant. It has all the normal stuff you would expect from a Chinese place and it all tastes good. You also get a free cup of soup as soon as you sit down. Points!!
We got the best customer service that weve ever had! The was amazing and so is there salt and pepper chicken. Everything else was good as well.
If you live in Live Oak like we do theres a couple of options for Chinese food. Dynasty in the El Rancho Center is a little more upscale but Chinese Village is a bit plainer. Mary and the staff do a good job. Theres usually a lot of people eating there for dinner. Youll notice Bamboo restaurant just next door which hardly any people eat there. So if you have an option and youre not sure you better go to Chinese village.
Went with the family and we all ordered almond chicken. After receiving our plates we noticed one of them was missing almonds. I notified the waitress who laughed and brought a small plate with almonds to be tossed in the plate. After that, I asked the waitress if I could have chili oil. The waitress said they did not make chili oil. In terms of food portions, I received a very small plate with sweet and sour pork. The overall taste of everything was not great and I found it to be pricy. To top it off, at the end we were only provided with two fortune cookies for a party of four. I will definitely not be coming back.
Very friendly service Sally is owner and shes amazing! Very fast to get food to table and its always delicious! Wont go to any other Chinese restaurant.
My friend and I came back from 9 months to eat and the owner still remembered us and sat us down to wherever was open. My appetizer the Bon Bon Chicken was really good. It was served promptly with the main meal. She even remembered the dish my friend always got and refilled our water frequently. 5 out of 5 stars! The soup is just as good as I remember.
My family and I have been coming here for over 35 years. Food is always phenomenal and the service is fantastic. Potstickers are the best in Cali.
I Love this restaurant for lunch or dinner! The servers are super nice and the food is so Good and Tasty!! They will add more additional Veggies to what ever dish you order and not charge more. The waitress Lin, she is my favorite server,, she is so kind and thoughtful and is very attentive every time Ive dined there. Please try the roast duck, if you enjoy duck, its cooked to perfection, best in the area and not to expensive!!
One of the best places for Chinese in SC, freshest veggies, clean cuts of meat, and Sally(the owneris always there making sure all the food comes out correctly and even waiting tables. Highly recommend.
Great food and amazing service. Great for large groups, several large round tables. I personally recommend the Hunan Chicken and if you like pot stickers you have to try the best, and they are made here. Ive been coming here for years and it has become my go-to for Chinese food.
Only OK food. Ive only been here once, and was not impressed at all. Quite mediocre for a sit down restaurant. Ive been to takouts that served better food for lower prices. (Not in Santa Cruz). Ill keep searching for better Chinese options in town.
Weve eaten here several times since it is nearby. The food is pretty basic Chinese, nothing too exciting but good and not greasy. Their hot and sour soup is quite good.
Ive eaten here often over the years and its always been great. Most places in this town have pot stickers that are from Costco, they make their own here and they are fantastic!
Ive never walked out of a place without eating until I tried eating here. the Orange chicken looked horrible and tasted worse. I was nearly sick just from the taste. Ive had better Chinese food from the frozen section of a grocery store.
