China Star in La Crosse

Sadly, about a third of the pea pods used in our chicken with pea pods dish had grotesque black spots on them. Normally, we are happy with their food, but this experience makes us not want to order takeout from them ever again.

Five mins of eating my chicken I find a whole fly stuck and my chicken.🤮🤢 and mind you I waited a whole hour just to get this. They were supposed to come pick the entree back up to check but they didn’t so I left a review. After I asked them for a refund they refund me then a day later stole the money back, doesn’t answer the phone for hours. I will never eat here again food is poisoning for sure and not up to quality.

This place used to be great. It started going down hill a couple years ago. I still try it occasionally & it just keeps geting worse!!NOT recommended!

The food is okay, they have good ingredients. Their fried rice is really bad. You can tell they use leftover rice to make it. Seriously, the rice is super dry and its because they use old rice that didnt get served the day before.The sauce is okay, I dont think its good. Honestly, the only reason to eat at this place is because the vegetables and meat are decent.

I cant get over how bad the fried rice is. Dont get it!!! Its so stale. If youre not very knowledgeable on rice, take it from me. Im Chinese and Ive grown up around Asian food, DO NOT GET THE FRIED RICE

They charge you for your food and charge your card again with a pending charge for $24 that goes away. Seriously!!!

Great food! It was ready quickly, hot, fresh, and the host was very kind and courteous. The only downside is that they should have a buffet with food that good. You can tell that they take great pride in the food they make. It shows when you eat it. Absolutely 💯. I will be back for sure! Keep it up!

I ordered shrimp with Chinese vegetables it was Top Notch lots of very big yummy shrimp thanks for a great meal

Honestly most of the reviewsIve seen of this place are fake, this place isnt a buffet. They have absolutely delicious take-out. Food has always been 10/10 and all the employees are super nice. The entire menu is really cheap and well seasoned. Yes their building is a little grungey at the moment, but they also had to make serious changes to remain open during covid that they havent yet been able to remove. Anyone whos spent time in big cities will have no problem with this place.

Love their steamed dumplings and the beef lo mein was great.

The garlic shrimp is excellent and the service is extremely fast

We loved China Star until we picked up an order at their store (we usually get delivery). It was very dirty. The floors had not been swept or mopped in some time.

Had this for lunch and they definitely upped the quality it was great compared to the last time I had it and the portion size was perfect not too much and not to little

Food was NOT good eggrolls was delicious though. The server didnt refill our water. The buffet food area servers didnt refill accordingly. Sorry NEVER I will NOT recommend this buffet to families and friends. No pictures because the food look like leftovers. 😕

China Star has been my familys long-time favorite Chinese restaurant in La Crosse. Their food is consistently tasty and their staff is always happy and helpful. The only sad part is that they have had to shrink the sizes of their carryout portions likely due to the economy. Unfortunately for us we live in Onalaska and they dont deliver to our location so we have to drive quite a distance to do our carryout. Its definitely worth it for their awesome chicken and Broccoli, chicken Teriyaki, fried rice, etc.

Portions are a lot smaller than they used to be and the price got higher foods not quite as good as it used to be also..Representatives not as pleasant as they were before seemed to always be in a hurry even if its not applicable.

Always good, always fresh. Definitely freshest when you pick it up yourself but not stale by any means when ordered for delivery. Huge portions and low prices. The only non buffet Chinese, I eat in town.

Is this the same restaurant it used to be back in 2003? Looks like it is. Amazing food! Always the best taste. Many years after haven’t tried nothing better despite I live on the boarder with China for over 30 years.Good luck and thanks for the answear in advance.

The food is very good, but hours have changed and not signed very clearly.We went two times in two weeks and had to drive away because they were closed.

This was my first & last time eating from here. The rice was hard as hell. The food was tasteless! Even the sauce that they give with it was off. The shrimp was like mush. I really miss food from back home Chicago & Indiana

The sesame chicken I ordered was hard as a rock, and the taste was just off. Egg rolls were so small. Have ordered here numerous times and the last couple have been awful. Never again.

I’ve eaten at China star many times over the last few years and am usually disappointed. The sesame chicken was tough and very thickly breaded. There were also hard chunks in it and I ended up spitting out 3 bites and then just threw away the whole dish. Disgusting. I’ve quit ordering from China star because if you are looking for Chinese is la crosse, 5 star egg rolls is hands down the absolute best. They are not open on the weekends, so China star was the only option and honestly I’d rather starve. They made eggs rolls 100x better at kwik trip.

Wow! It’s New Year’s Eve and the delivery was faster than jimmy johns. Every thing was hot and delicious. The driver called ahead to make check how we wanted it delivered. Very great and friendly service. Thank you for being open for the busy holiday.

Good food but deeply disappointed with service. Placed a sizeable order and was promised delivery in 1.5 hours. Everything showed up 30 minutes late and they forgot three items (house fried rice, steamed dumplings and cream cheese wontonsand utensils.

I wish I could give negative stars. First off they charge you a $100 security deposit if you order online with a card. I’ve never heard of that and it’s stupid. Something is always off. This time it was sweet and sour sauce missing and requested silverware. Sick of this place. Also don’t order unless you want to wait an hour every time.

Its pretty darn good. I had pork eggfuyoug, egg roll, steamed dumplings (porkpork fried rice. Needs more pork and could use some sesame oil. Everthing else was darn goodI would recommend and go back myself. Social distance and face mask only used by me, both cashiers. The 3 men cooking no mask. Gentlemen came in no mask.Im totally freaked about this virus, 1st time Ive been out since march! I miss being able to smile at people! No matter what we are all in this together, maybe stop yelling, fighting, and setting buildings on fire! My brothers and sisters, I love yall and am behind you. ❤

The food was good, but delivery took over an hour. It was clear they had forgotten our order when I called and it must have been sitting for some time because it was cold. We requested plates napkins and forks, none of which were in the delivery.

Terrible experience.Ordered food , 20 mins later I got a notification food is ready, I spend 20 minutes driving there... I wait there for another 52 minutes... how does it take 1 hour and a half to make chicken and rice ? There was like 8+ workers . And another lady was there for 2 hours because someone gave 2 orders to 1 person by mistake.Expect a 1 hour wait time minimum when ordering here.Maybe need a bigger kitchen and double staff , and better notification system that doesnt lie...

It was terrible, the downsized the containers and still charge the same for the old containers, you get less food for the same price as well. Its a RIP off!!! I would not recommend eating there. I am never going to eat there again!!! There food has gotten a lot spicier too!!! It was gross!!!

After finally finding out there was a place open, I was ecstatic!!!! The orange chicken was not spicy but good. the chow mei fun Chicken on the other hand the noodles were stale and there was absolutely no flavor. Not sure if Ill ever order again. ☹️

We will no longer order from here after finding hair in our food. I can understand maybe a hair but not multiple strands in separate dishes. I called and addressed the health concerns with the food. The gentleman who took the order said if we bring in the food we could get reimbursed. I am not really looking for a refund as much as I am looking for reassurance that my food wont have hair in it. Sorry China Star but were done.

Ive loved China Star ever since I moved here! Ordered a dinner tonight and the portion side was really disappointing! We can usually order a dinner to share! I also added extra broccoli which only added to the disappointment, instead of getting more for the additional payment I got less chicken and broccoli that didnt even have sauce on it. I would usually give 5 stars but the lack of protein (and sauceeven though I was charged for extra broccoli and the size difference was really sad to see.

Have ordered through the Menufy App twice. First time they delivered and almost everything was ok, but they totally ignored my special request for condiments and chop sticks. Ordered again tonight. Ordered two orders of chicken broccoli hold the carrots add snow peas and make spicy. All shows clearly on the receipt what I requested. Only part of order they got right was the no carrots. Didn’t add the snow peas which I paid for. Didn’t make spicy. Forgot chopsticks again. Called to complain. Got told they could make me my order the right way and bring it out on their “next run”. I agreed, but they asked me to not eat what they had delivered so they could have it back. Thought that was odd. Are they going to reuse it? To their credit, they did end up bringing me the correct order but an hour and a half later. I generally don’t write poor reviews. I’m gonna rate at three stars instead of two because they brought the right order eventually.

Ive never dined inside of this place however I must say that they always have superior quality compared to their closest competitors. Whenever my wife calls in shell get exactly what she ordered and in many times its available before their over the phone time given for when itll be ready. Ive often questioned tipping EVEN when Im the one picking it up.Great workers too! Definitely worthy of all 5 stars.

Ive been a customer here for a few years now never had any issues with the food until now my brother and I each ordered a orange chicken dinner when I was eating mine I found a used staple on top of one of the pieces of chicken immediately threw the whole dinner away and when my brother was chewing one of his pieces of chicken there was a huge bone inside the chicken this food is DANGEROUS to eat!! Were taking our business elsewhere!

We always get our Chinese food here! At least once a month we do the carry out option. It doesnt take that long for the food to be ready. We usually call ahead so the food is ready when we get there. The food always tastes good and they have a wide selection. I would recommend the chicken curry, the chicken with mixed vegetables, and the soups.

Be cautioned about their online ordering. It asks you to put a tip in before its delivered, so I did. The receipt shows the tip but also leaves a space for an additional tip, which I left blank. I checked my bank account a few days later and a few extra dollars had mysteriously been added on.According to the delivery driver Kyle, I must have "accidentally" written down the extra few dollars and forgot about it. Yeah, no. I didnt. Havent ordered from them since. No more pupu platters... :/

Great food, terrible service. They have messed our orders up numerous times in the past; no big deal. Everybody makes mistakes and we have always given them another chance.That being said, tonight was the final straw for the chances that we give them. First, I tried calling and could hardly get through. The phone just kept ringing busy for about 10 minutes. Again, they’re busy.. That is fine. When I finally got through, I got put on hold for 3 minutes. When they picked back up, my first question was, “how long of a wait for a carry-out order?” The kid working the phone told me 30-35 minutes. We showed up at the 30 minute mark and it wasn’t ready yet. Keep in mind, they had a room full of people and in the 5-10 minutes I stood there when I first got there, the kid working the counter hadn’t asked a single person if they had been helped. In the first 15 minutes of waiting, I had seen three other people walk out the door without being helped.As I sat waiting for my food, I got to talking to another guy that was there waiting and he said he had already been waiting an hour. He also said he would have walked out the door had the kid told him it would be an hour, but he had already paid. Once he told me how long he had been waiting, I had to ask how much longer until my food would be done (had already been an hour since I put my order in). This time I was talking to one of the guys that came out from the kitchen and he told me “10 more minutes.” I asked if it had even been started yet and he said “once they start cooking it, it goes quick.” I told him not to worry about it and just cancel my order. He then said “I’m sorry, we have a lot of orders.” I explained that “it is fine yoi have a lot of orders, but don’t tell people a half hour if it’s going to be an hour and half. That is a big difference and you have a room full of people that have been waiting a lot longer than you told them.” All he could say was “sorry.”Lastly, if the manager or owner are reading this, I have a couple pieces of advice.. First, don’t tell your customers something if you can’t hold up your end of the deal. Second, figure out a phone system that can handle more calls so your customers don’t get a busy tone when they call. Third, maybe hold off on the Menufy app until you can handle the phone calls and the customers that actually walk into the store. The kid working the counter was worried more about looking at the tablet on the wall than he was handling the phone calls and working with the room full of customers that were in the restaurant. Last but not least, get the poor kid at the counter some help or find someone that can handle the work load.You may have lost a good number of customers tonight based on the little bit that I got to see while I was there.. Four customers walked out the door and a good handful that were waiting on deliveries called upset in the 45 minutes that I was standing in your store. I know for sure that you lost two customers in our household

This is a great place to go for Chinese style food. Food is fresh, hot, tasty and they have all the standard options of appetizers, meals and soups. They have some nice lunch time menu deals give any of them a try when you want a nice sized meal... I end up with leftovers.

Hot and spicy shrimp meal and all you have to do is take a look at the pictures and get a guest for yourself it looked good soon as I open the box but this is what I got. Yes the plate on the map is nothing but onions and is not even spicy

The portions are huge! They did forget our Chicken lo mein but they offered a free order the next time we order I had the chicken broccoli healthy dish the ginger sauce was delicious! We also ordered the orange chicken and it was delicious! My kids loved the sweet and sour chicken and fried rice and vegetables! The crab ragoons were excellent also! The food was amazing I definitely recommend China Star!

Ordered the teriyaki chicken app and sesame chicken dinner. Everything was delicious.The prices here are exceptionally budget friendly. The dinner and lunch combos are incredible deals. Will be ordering from here again.Also the person on the phone as well as my delivery driver were extremely polite.

Good value. Food qualty is satisfactory but nothing to get excited about. Portion sizes are fairly generous. Price is very reasonable.They offer 3 options: pick up, delivery, dine in. I have never used delivery there. Dine in is a joke. I tried it once way back when they 1st opened. Even then it was like an afterthought at best. Over time, it has only degraded. There are supplies and boxes strewn about and what amounts to be a bring your young children to work day or employee day care operation. I say forget even considering eating in. I always have good luck with pickup though.

I ordered delivery at about 3 oclock on a Wednesday. I ordered sesame chicken, sweet and sour chicken, and a side of rice. The women on the phone took my order and was polite. After my order was placed I waited about an hour. After an hour I called back to check on my order, the women on the other end said the delivery guy left "10 minutes ago" well I ended up waiting another hour for my food to arrive. Roughly 2 hours of waiting. The food was luke warm and chewy. The portions were large but mainly unpalatable. Would not recommend.

Their food is really good and they give you a lot for what you pay for, but delivery service is horrible. I order from there at least twice a week and the past probably 4 times theyve forgotten our drinks. So Id call back and would wait about 30 minutes for them to bring it. This past time I called, they said theyd bring it and never did but were still charged for it. Ended up having to buy drinks from the gas station and left with cold food. I called back the next day and told them what happened. They offered a $5 credit (I ordered 4 spritesbut they made me purchase a more expensive order. Was dissapointment with the lack of trying to make things right.

First time to this business will be the last. The chicken wings and egg drop soup was very good. The chicken fried rice was tasteless and made with yellow rice. In the half order I tried, I encountered three pieces of gristle and one glob of fat! The almond chicken was inedible. The chicken parts had the texture of mush!! And last but not least, I verified with order taker that white rice came with almond chicken order. You guessed it, when I got home, no white rice!!! If you want fast inedible main courses, this is the place. For myself, I will try someplace else.

I have ordered from here before and typically it went fine, but this last time I called, they answered, and then they put me on hold immediately. I have worked in food service before so this didnt bother me. Then they asked for my address and I gave it to them and they put me on hold again. Again, wasnt bothered. They finally took my order, phone number, and credit card information and put me on hold one more time. I was a bit confused but wasnt going to make a fuss. After minutes of being on hold the lady finally picks up the phone again and says "How can I help you?" I told her I already ordered. She asked me for my address, and when I told her I already gave her all my information she got extremely angry and rude with me saying that I never did any of that, scoffing and laughing at me the entire time. I have never had an employee be so rude to me on the phone.
