Leazes Park Rd, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 4QT, Newcastle upon Tyne
Simple, narrow operation offering classic Pan-Asian & Malaysian fare such as curries & noodles.
Delicious family run Malaysian restaurant. Quick service, freshly cooked. We ate way too much. They do take cards now.
Has to be one of the best halal food place in the north east.Highly recommended 👌 wont ever be disappointed
Great food and a great service and especially from a Manager Kevin who always make sure everyone are happy and enjoying :)
Not so bad. Terrible things are they advertise some of the food but it doesnt come completely. Went twice, ordered hainan chicken rice but only got the chicken rice, soup and the chilli. No ginger and other things that were supposed to come with it and one of the waiters doesnt even know anything about the menu. Disappointed.Hopefully the management will take this as advice and improve the service
Food is good and price is cheap . Popular place among students in Newcastle. I used to go there but last time was annoying because of bad service by one of the waitresses.
Authentic malaysian food. Tastes like the real deal. Portions are big, so dont order too many dishes
📍Chilli Padi, Newcastle Upon TyneAnother Malaysian Restaurant in Newcastle, this spot is clearly a favourite amongst locals. I hear that the founder happens to be from Sibu, a town in Sarawak. It was lovely to have food resembling home. With so many dishes to choose from, I had a hard time deciding on what I had to try.The ‘Aubergine & Sliced Fish with Rice’ was delicious. Thick clear sauce, generous in amount, with large slices of fish pieces fried in batter. My friend loved the ‘Mango Tofu’. Savoury and sweet, the dish was lovely. The vegetarian curry, however, felt a little blend. Perhaps, to cater to the general tongues, spices here have to be a little mellowed. How nice it is to be reminded of home once again through cuisine served here.*the food prepared here are from halal sources
Great food for those craving for authentic Malaysian food in north east ❤️
My best place to eat in Newcastle.Food is very good and there is a lot to choose from the prices are very reasonable in perspective of portion size, taste and quality. The staff and great and help you understand the menu if you are not sure.Would recommend!
We got food poison after eating there ! Beef was like rubber. Waitress could not explain the dishes, communication was poor & ending up bringing some black burnt food on some black dishes ! No one even asked if food was " Alright". NO good service & bad quality foods .
Had the Kung Pao chicken and rice followed with Golden Buns - would recommend. Super quick service, super kind staff, nice music/atmosphere. And BYOB😁😋
I tried their food 5 years ago and still remember the taste! It was my first time trying Malaysian food. Their drinks were very yummy and refreshing. I remember ordering some spicy chicken, incredible flavor! Will definitely be back when I visit England again! Such nice staff members too, and loved the ambiance.
Excellent service. Food is fantastic. The nasi Pattaya is so good. So much better from Malaysia itself (never tasted anything like it before). A must taste! The Hainan Chicken Rice and the Laksa curry is also good and so is the teh tarik.
Always good quality food
Malayan , cheerful decor. food : good portions, tasted very very nice. Veggie options. Hope you like chilli !
Malaysian approved. Cannot describe how phenomenal this place is. The food is as good (if not even better!as what you would get back home in Malaysia.
Visited with my dad on July 21st to celebrate my 18th birthday. Service was great and casual and food came out rapid. We both had smoked chicken, Egg Fried Rice, Soft Noodles, Gyozas and Spring Rolls and it was absolutely to die for, the food was absolutely delicious and the portions massive, even the rice was amazing!lovely food, casual vibes, great beer too!
Got the Prawn soup noodles, Roti canai & clay pot absolutely phenomenal - great variety on the menu but highly highly recommend roti canai as a starter!
Food was okish, sweet and chilli chicken was bit hard, meat was good. Sparkling mango was Rubicon mango, cost only 0.80p but they charged £3.30Total for 4 persons average in a student area cost us £16pounds, which I think is slightly more than what it should be. Overall nice place to sitdown for a meal.
Your go-to place for authentic Malaysian cuisine in Newcastle. So many dishes to pick from which is a good enough reason to return to the place. Be sure to book a table just in case they have a full crowd.
I have had a few takeaways from these guys, both through lockdown and after and the food has been amazing! Literally, some of the best food I have ever had! The Tom Yom soup and the smoked chicken...ohh and the spicy noodly thing with the egg that I can never remember its name 🙈 and many more...I have been looking forward to visiting them and eating in their restaurant so very much. My girlfriends and our kids were mean to go tonight for a birthday celebration and I had a table booked for 14 people. I messed up. It was my fault. One family down to covid and one down to a festival sickness bug...I was meant to postpone and ..I totally forgot...The lovely man on the phone that called to ask if we were coming? Im so sorry! You shouldnt have had to chase me :-(I promise we will make it up to you in revenue and letting the world know how good your food is.Thankyou for being so kind and forgiving aswell as your amazing food!
Great place to eat authentic Malaysian food. The food was lovely, went for their Malay Kungpo and it tasted absolutely amazing. Staff are very kind and welcoming.Only problem is that seating and tables are closely arranged, looked as if I was sharing a table with other customers. However, couldnt fault food and service.
Tasty nasi goreng kampong and Squid belacan. The egg fried rice was expensive for a small bowl. Staff didnt give us a long time to think of what to order because the kitchen is closing at at approximately 15:30.
Very nice food, big portions so could probably share one main dish between two people and share sides. Would definitely visit again
@scranbibles INSTAGRAMFirst time after hearing good things. So to start the resteraunt itself doesnt look up too much, nothing fancy at all. Lots of Malaysian drinks but no elaboration on the menu as to what they are. Staff are pleasant enough, now onto the food. All the dishes didnt come together however there wasnt much of a wait between them but Id prefer to be served my sides and mains at once . The food its self was sooo tasty 😋 I opted for the smoked chicken which I was recommended and it was delicious! The size difference between the starter and main version isnt much either! I got salt and chilli chips and king prawn also. My friend got the Chong Qing Spicy chicken and this was not for the faint hearted 🌶🌶🌶 my god so flavoursome but red hot and I like spice... there is sooo much on the menu so I would go back to try more stuff, the food was Fab! They have a decent size veggie menu also .
One of the best Chongqing chicken in the UK,I have tried this dish in many cities in the UK and the one from this restaurant is one of my favourites. Fragrant and spicy 🔥🔥🔥
A restaurant of its own kind. Never fails to impress with their majestic taste of Malaysian food. Fantastic
Overall we were happy and satisfied with the foods. Loved the Malay Char Kueh Tiaw & Mee Goreng, curry laksa was alright but not the authentic taste we expected, the only disappointment was the Ice Bandung which seemed having a taste that making the Bandung didn’t taste like Bandung.
Ordered the Malaysian style mee goreng and Nasi Lemak. Good portion size thus value for money, however, the fried chicken in the nasi lemak was overcooked hence it was very dry and tough, the anchovies wasnt the crispy kind but rather the chewy kind. Mee goreng taste great though!
I’m Malaysian and I don’t understand why people say the food here is nice and authentic. It’s not at all, their wat tan hor tastes way too different from what I have in Malaysia. The texture of the hor fun is so weird and they didn’t fry their hor fun like what we did in Malaysia.Their Chilli Pan Mian was the worst chilli pan mian I’ve ever had. Nothing like the chilli pan mian in Malaysia. They are not even using handmade pan mian, instead they are using some sort of chinese noodles called 刀削面… It’s really horrible…Their Curry Laksa was acceptable but I think they are using curry paste packets for their soup just like their har mee’s (prawn noodlessoup. My friend ordered their Char Kueh Teow and she requested no spicy for it but it came with chilli and it’s quite spicy. She tried to send it back but the staff said it can’t be changed as the sauce they use is spicy. It’s really ridiculous… She had suffer the heat to finish it…Staffs were not friendly and slow response. Not recommended. Will not come back! If you are looking for authentic Malaysian food you can try 2000 mamak (might change their name in the futurein Glasgow. Their food is way better.
Beautiful staff. So friendly. The food was tasty, totally enjoyed it. Portions were good and the fair pricing
I shouldve went for the chicken bites instead of the wings because the bites looked flavoursome and juicy, whilst the wings were somewhat plain with the spicy sauce.Got beef rendang with rice and it came with a very healthy portion. Was nice and very spicy. Not a fan of the 100x Malaysian drink.
I love their food.. only decent SE Asian place in newcastle
Where do I start. This was absolutley amazing. I cannot wait to return. Smoked chicken and the M17 prawn dish were absolukey to die for.
Had a just eat delivery from here, arrived on time, i ordered Chicken Satay On Skewers and Lamb Flank Curry Hot Pot with Jasmine Rice! Satay Skewers were tasty, Hot Pot was nice too, loved the sauce meat was ok i would order a better cut of meat next time, would still recomend 😁👌
Incredible food and an amazing amount of choice from the menu. I will be back sorely on the food menu as the customer service was absolutely shocking. My booking was on Saturday night at 19:30, which I understand is a busy time however, I arrived early and was shown my table while I waited for my friends, I waited 15 minutes before my friends arrived and not once was I approached by a member of staff to take a drinks order or if I was okay. Once my friends arrived after another 15minutes we flagged a waitress down our self to place our order. Half of a meal was placed on our table with no words, our drinks hadnt arrived at this point and no other meals were brought to our table. After 5 minutes of waiting our drinks were slammed onto the table by staff, no communication said while this happened and shortly after our food arrived. No staff approached up through our meal, no one asked how our meal was, did we need anything else, we were completely ignored. We finally had to flag a waitress down again to pay our bill. Its a shame really as it ruined the whole evening.
I think the portions of the food are really good. The taste is also good. But I find this place overrated. I dont find it as special and good as I thought it to be but it was okay. The prices are really high though. The atmosphere of the restaurant is nice. Overall its nice to go once in a while but not regularly. I ordered all of this and it cost me around £130 in the picture. The fired rice was not to my expected level it did lack a lot of flavours quite a few flaws in taste for the other dishes as well...
Chilli Padi serves authentic and delicious Mayalsian food. The food is top notch and the service is so quick. They have a wide variety of dishes including lots of vegetarian dishes. Id highly recommend the chilli padi mango sauce and ma po tofu!
Loved this place,Food was so tasty. Beautifully presented.Great vibes.Well looked after
Toooooo many options but huge portions! It’s HALAL and the food tastes amazing.
Food is genuinely authentic here, the flavours are what I’d expect to try in Malaysia ❤️ Nasi Lemak & CF7 dish was really tasty & flavoursomeKong poa chicken starters was also really flavoursome & tastyWasn’t a fan of the lemon grass fried chicken wings as it tasted a little on the dry side. Overall would easily come back here
Loved the food in here. The portion sizes are very generous. We took a doggy bag home at the end of the night. If you want a drink with your meal youll have to take your own as theyre not licensed.
Absolutely no idea why this restaurant has not been pulled up on the food they are serving.99% of the food was fat, gristle and oil. Both my partner and I ordered two lamb claypot curries. Two rotis and a portion of rice. The roti which was £5.50, although small and not worth the price, was the best part of the dish. The claypot curry had so much bones, fat and oil, that when you mixed the liquid, you still could not gain any curry sauce as the oil was the majority of the dish. This dish is basically a meal made with scraps of left over bones and fat, with small amounts of potato, large amounts of cabbage/onion.Would not recommend at all.
An excellent Malaysian restaurant.Theres plenty of choice on the menu, with lots of authentic Malaysian (and other Asiandishes, and prices are decent considering the generous portion sizes (drinks a tad bit expensive though). The food came out pretty quickly, and it was fantastic - full of flavour and spice, good ingredients, nicely cooked. Try the laksa seafood curry soup noodles, or the mee goreng (though everything was delicious). The staff were lovely - friendly and helpful, despite seeming a bit overworked (Covid-related staffing shortages, probably).Overall, highly recommended. Looking forward to returning and trying all of the other things on the menu I couldnt fit last time!
Ive ordered their Rendang Chicken with rice and it tasted good!! Im a Malaysian student and this dishes had brought me back to my homeland. It was a little bit spicy and I took away at the end because the portion was too big for me. It was 17.5GBP for two meals.
Authentic and great quality. Being Chinese myself means it is hard to find restaurants that serve authentic tastes to far East Asian food rather than a modified westernised recipe with too much sauce or sugar. Chilli Padi did it just right. Such a gem, Im so glad my friend brought me here. The Laksa chicken noodles were sooooo good. Spicy enough to make me ask for extra water but friendly enough for my non-Chinese friend to help herself for more servings. Reasonable prices too. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to try real far East Asian food in Newcastle.
Casual, friendly place - multicultural, laid back...you could be in South East Asia. Make sure you know what you want to order and you wont be disappointed. Portions are on the generous side so be aware 😀 Service is friendly but efficient and prices are reasonable...plus its BYOB if you drink alcohol, a full range of soft drinks available if not. Cant wait to come back!
Went there TWICE in one day (my first visit to Newcastle too). Authentic, delicious Malaysian food served in generous portions. Nasi lemak - sambal was great. Got an extra portion of sambal for free when I requested it too. Teh tarik was good and rich. Laksa was not too heavy, good balance of flavours. Prawn noodle soup was the real deal. Savoury, rich prawn stock really hit all the right notes. Spicy enough for me - but not too much for my Northern-born friend! Friendly staff too. Overall great place.
Amazing food.. We always come here when we are in Newcastle and are never disappointed. The food is fresh and delicious with a good variety to cater for everyones taste, staff are helpful and knowledgable with the menu to help if your unsure, you might have a little wait for a table as it is busy most days but definitely worth the wait. they dont sell alcohol but you can take your own theres is a tesco just around the corner plus parking is nearby. Highly recommended you try this place.
Large variety of Malaysian food, very quick service. The Szechuan sliced fish in chilli oil is an intimidatingly large dish, not sure I would have it again. The nasi lemak was enjoyable, but the sambal was too sweet. Tried their oily rice which is infused with pandan, garlic and ginger - definitely try it. Pretty good overall, worth a second visit.
