11948 Fair Oaks Mall, Fairfax, VA 22033, United States, Great Falls
Interactive museum with educational activities like using a robotic arm & building with big blocks.
My two year old grandsons had a blast. So interactive at all ages, even grandparents enjoyed!
Like the place. It has neat ideas and interactive things for kids to do. I was expecting more activities but whatever we did seem to keep the kids occupied long enough. Perhaps more computer interactives such as how to make a clay pot or uncovering archeological digs. Even on how batteries operate would be fun too. Also wish the gear system works better.
Disclaimer - this is the first time I visited a place dedicated for kids. The staff is really friendly and helpful to kids. Our guest thoroughly enjoyed her visit.Highly recommend.
This place is well done and the staff of extremely friendly… but unless your kid can sit still for long periods of time, find something else. The very few activities this place has to offer involves your child sitting and staying in one spot. We have been to countless childrens museums and science centers across the county and this one is by far the most disappointing. Which is saying a lot because I had yet to be disappointed by one!!
We had such a wonderful two hours of discovery and fun learning at the Childrens Science Center! You will not regret tge experience and tge staff is totally engaging.
This place is GREAT. There is a wonderful variety of hands on, fun learning experiences for kids! My daughter and I had lots of fun with the huge building foam blocks/tubes and we did a couple cool science experiments! We also enjoyed the energy area (for example, seeing which mini wind turbine we could make the most powerful). The staff is friendly and engaging. Highly recommend! We will definitely be going back.
Great place to spend two hours. Came with my 10 year old brother as a gift to him and he enjoyed every part of it. Clean space and knowledgeable staff. Even I learned a thing or two about science.
THIS PLACE IS AMAZING. I’d like to start by thanking all the volunteer helpers that really were the reason I think this place stands out from the rest.My son loves science but he’s only 5. The center is small but packed with real hands on science experimental activities and projects. I love how they were so many helpers to explain how to play with the object and the language they used with him to question how and why things were happening. I also love the science “bar” and bar tenders haha they were terrific.Highly recommend.
This little science center is surprisingly great! Every single employee we interacted with was so engaging. The animals were obviously all well cared for. The facility was clean and all of the exhibits were working. The experiments were premeasured and well thought out. Engineering room was well stocked and the activity was fun. Definitely a great way to spend a few hours. My 7 year old and 2.5 year old LOVED it.
It was a great experience for all the kids. They had so much fun playing and learning at the same time. Everyone was so helpful, accommodating in addition to instructing the kids. Overall an awesome couple of hours for a 10th birthday party!!
Exceptional staff!! Everyone here was so kind and so nice with children. They did a great job and we’re so great with my 3 year old. Honestly this place is probably better suited for years 5 and up but nevertheless they did a great job. They way they spoke to my daughter specifically showed that they cared about making science cool so they get five stars from me.
Small space but extremely friendly staff who engage great with my 2 year old. She was thoroughly entertained
We had a great time! They are a small place with fun activity. They give you kits that you can try experiments on your own.
My kids loved it! Clean and friendly staff; parking was a breeze... There are tons of activities in each room. It was not crowded at all and such a good price for 2 hrs.
We have taken our 3 yr old son here the past two weekends and he has had a blast! Everyone that works there is so helpful, outgoing, and made sure my son had a good time. We will definitely be back!
Our kids had a lot of fun here! The only downside was the cost. If it was more affordable and if we lived closer, I could see our kids visiting regularly.
This is a small place inside the mall but packed with activies. There are lots of things to do. Dont be shy to ask their friendly staff for other activities in the box/ on the shelves, theyre available as well. We had good experiences and good time there, even the 1-year-old. We will be back.Note: park outside near Lord & Taylor if you want to go straight here. My friends (who already came to the mall countless of timehad hard time locate the place from walking around within the mall because its kind of hidden at an angle alley. You can locate the Redskins Store and turn.
This place is awesome! My kids are 4.5 and almost 6. I’m so bummed I waited so long to check it out. The staff is amazing - funny, kind, and very knowledgeable. They made everything so engaging. The experiments were perfect - making slime, making snow, test your sense of smell, etc. My son played with circuit boards to turn lights on and make a fan blow. My daughter built a robot. I immediately bought a membership. Worth every penny.
My kids love this place! I took them on a school break and they had a blast, my kids range in age from 4-10. They have activities for all ages though. The staff is extremely friendly too. Membership is worth it if youd go a lot because per day prices add up.
Great place to pick a station and just do something STEM-related. Employees are very friendly. Parents getting involved is so good for bonding too. I asked her, how would we make this bigger? which piece? and we had a blast. (picbut there are little DIY build kits from models to basic robotics. Its a pretty big place. Get a membership and its the perfect place to go on a rainy day or with a buddy on a playdate all year round. or whenever the kiddo is bored. I never feel guilty because everything is so hands-on-sciency. Love this place.
Amazing hands on Science center. It is small by comparison to many, but more than compensates with quality displays and friendly staff. We spent several hours here and could have stayed longer.
We love this place. Lots of interactive and fun things to experiment with and play with. My five year old loves the bottle launcher and the magnetic wall where you can build your own rube goldberg machine. Worth visiting if you have young ones who want to expend some energy and learn from interactive activities.
We were staying near Fair oaks Mall and we had a lot of plans to go to a kids museum in DC. I was skeptical about going to the science museum in a mall but I was wrong. The science museum is a very cool space for kids that can really spark their interest. There are a lot of activities to do and the hosts were super friendly. We spent 5 hrs and were not bored for one minute . A really nice place highly recommended.
My godbaby had her 4th Birthday Party here and it was awesome! They personalized her name on the TV screen in the party room and cute little small things like that made it special. They had cool, fun and kid-friendly science experiences. Cool idea for a party!!!
Childrens science center is so much fun for parents and children to do interesting science experiments together. Great place to spend quality time with kids when the weather is too hot, too cold or rainy. We bought annual family membership for $160 and come at least once a month.
Not worth it for a birthday party at all. Its way too expensive for what you get. They make it sound like youll get this amazing team to give you an amazing experience but that was not the case at all. It really feels like the team is only there to rush you along. The time given for the birthday party Is not enough at all. The direction were unclear when the party started. The "party assistance" gave me a run down of the party plan and told me the kids would be given time to play first. Soon after she dissapeared. This was right before my guest arrived. We finished decorating right at 4:30pm which was the party start time. Once my guest arrived she was still no where to be found. So I just sent them all off to play. They did not explain anything to anyone so everyone was confused about what to do or where to go in the lab rooms. When we finally had everyone out exploring the labs, we had 20 mins left before the "science experiment" so they barely even had time to play. I finally found her and she was checking in at the door because the area is still open to the public during your party time. They soon called all the kids over to get started with the science experiment (magnetic slime). The experiment was also very very rushed. The kids were rushed through all the steps and barely had time to even finish their slime. The point of the experiment was for the kids to play with magnetic slime. The assistance handed everyone 1 small magnet each. Then showed them ONCE how the magnet stuck to the slime and collected them back up immediately as the kids were rushed out of the room. It was literally like "do this, do that, look it sticks, okay done, get out" no explanation, nothing. Once in the party room, the pizza ran about 5 mins late. In those 5 mins alone I was told up to 5 times how we needed to hurry because our time was running out. The party assistant was very antsy as if her ultimate goal was just to get us out on time. the pizza showed as they were about to cut the cake and started giving out the pizza instead, then I was told several more time how its almost time to cut the cake because time was running out. 30 mins for pizza and cake is not enough at all for kids between the ages of 3-9!! kids eat slow, they want time to enjoy with each other but instead they were being rushed into stuffing their face as fast as they could. I barely had time to take pictures! in the end we basically ended up paying $350 to use their room for 30 min and for a very small amount of "magnetic slime". Maybe go on any regular day but birthday parties are NOT WORTH IT!!
This place is pretty expensive but it’s a good alternative to taking your kids to one of those indoor play places which are also pretty expensive. Here at least you get the STEM educational experience out of it. However, this place charges for adults which is annoying. We ended up just getting a membership. It pays for itself if you are going to visit more than twice in a year. It’s a bit small but they have plenty of activities to entertain the kids for an hour. We have a 4 yo and a 2 yo. The 4 yo gets much more out of it but that’s okay. The experiment bar is fun to do hands-on science experiments but I wish they would change them up a bit more often. Same with some of the activities in the back room like the hover craft building activity. They love seeing and petting the live snakes!
I took my 6 year old to the Science Center lab on a Saturday. There were a number of spaces devoted to different learning experiences such as energy, building blocks, couple of chemistry experiments, & also a play area for younger kids. There was also a robot that could be programmed via a tablet to play music, stamp some emojis on paper, arrange blocks for a marble run. It was a good place to spend about 3 hours. It cost $13 per person & you could enter & exit as many times as you wished.
Family friendly learning while playing environment. These guys have come to our elementary school to showcase and the kids really enjoy their time. Hands on experiments making dough and slime.
childrens science center lab was a great hands on field trip for the 4th graders today! They had a fun time!
If you are not scientifically minded don’t waste your money. The age range is 2-12 but you would be better off taking your kids to the mall play area especially with kids under school age. There are workers there but it requires self guidance. The science experiments are too advanced for young children. Cannot recommend for lower elementary kids and preschoolers.
We went for a birthday party and had a lot of fun.
We love using our Homeschool Pass to visit here. Every month there are new experiments and last time we got to watch them feed the snakes. My kids love it. Ages 2 to 8, theres something for all of them.
This has a room for all ages, but i would recommend for really young kids 1 adult to kid if youll be helping with each expirement and activity. We went as a group and all the children had a blast and wanted to go back.
Hands on interactive labs. Lots of great stations for kids to learn mechanics, robotics, fish, anatomy and other things. My 5 year old played with LEGO’s mostly and my 3 year old found plenty to do.
My 3 grandkids ages 3,5 and 6 loved this place and cant wait to return. The 6 yr old said "I thought science was boring but its really fun"
I love this place. I brought my kids here for a couple different camps and they totally loved them. One was a single night deal after closing time with a pizza party. My wife and I had a nice dinner nearby while we waited. The second was summer camp that was all week long. The science center has a wonderful staff who are great with kids and just a million different activities they can do. If you sign up for the newsletter you can see when they offer the different camps. Also, they use a great security system to make sure kids only leave with approved adults.
I organized my son’s 7th birthday there. Everything about the center is awesome, from the scientific experiment to the fun and educational toys and equipment.I marked them down because I opted for the chaperon who shows the kids what and how to play with the equipment. The chaperon was overwhelmed and clearly didn’t know how to handle kids. Because of this, we were running late and had about 20min for pizza and cake- they rushed us through this and made my guests feel uncomfortable when time was up. It was a rushed and awkward ending to the birthday.
This place is awesome. Admission is $13.00 for non members over 2 and members and children under 2 are free. I dont remember the senior and military price. They have a section with 3 experiments that change monthly. There is a section called the Discovery Zone dedicated to kids under 5. The have paid camps and special events.
Okay atmosphere with great staff on the floor! The young staff were what really made the trip worthwhile with their positive attitudes and lovingness towards children. Much of the visit was enjoyable, my daughters enjoyed their time, but I felt like the experience could have been a lot better; it’s lacking in excitement for young kids. Some of the experiments/activities were not designed for small children and of course aren’t comprehendible at their level. Not to mention, once you have gone once there’s no use in going again! The activities are nearly always the same. Besides the point, I would like to thank some of the staff members especially Meg (she was so helpful and always had approached us with a smile!and one of the younger members, Farah (she was always so pleasant and fun). I would recommend the CSC for a one-time activity but I don’t think I’ll be coming back here, try one of the childrens places in DC!
My 5th grade team and our students were invited to the Childrens Science Center here in Fairfax County. I NEVER KNEW THAT IT EXISTED!!! What an amazing experience they had! Each activity was hands on and relatable to what we are learning or going to be learning this year! Thank you so much Childrens Science Center! We hope to be back next year!!!
Excellent for children to do experiments. My grandchildren made soap. The staff is kind friendly, as they are young adults and very helpful to the youngsters. A great idea!
I would go again, my son had fun playing with all the contraptions in one area. He had a blast making the slime he got to take home. The only downside was that there was very little interaction from the staff, such as in the craft area where two employees just had their own conversation and watched as my son and I tried to figure out what types of activities we could do. I was definitely expecting more guidance and interaction between the staff and the kids. Overall, my son had fun which is why I give it a 4 and not a 3, and it was good way to spend an hour, maybe even two if we had been guided on what else they have to offer. Restrooms were clean as well, and had little step stools to help little kids wash their hands.
The science center was great for the kids and totally worth the cost for my 4 year old and 3 year old but I feel like charging an adult the same price is a little bit of a rip off. I found myself following the kids around the whole time. $13 to do that, not worth it to a mom. Its definitely more beneficial to get a membership (since the kids LOVE itand use it frequently.
The lego center had instructions, but no room to build except this really small table, and the one thing my son chose to build, they were missing parts so he couldnt build it.The experiment center was pretty cool, but the science explanation could be geared toward kids more in their choice of vocabulary. Also, the filtration experiment had 3 cotton balls but the instructions said to use 2. It didnt hold and our experiment failed. They need to change that in the instructions.I wasnt all that impressed and Im not sure its worth $13 per person.
The science center is amazing! My son loves coming here, and for the first month or two of membership we came every day.The staff is all very friendly, and engage the children. They have been upgrading and adding new exhibits. I definitely recommend visiting :).
We are so lucky to have a facility like this in our area finally! It is amazing to think that a group of people got together with a dream and raised the funds to make this happen. We just had our ten year olds birthday party here and did it at 6PM when they closed. The boys got to do two experiments, goo and lava lamps, feed the sea horses and have the run of the experiment exhibits. It was an amazing event and everyone loved it. Kudos to the professional staff! We will be back!
My son had his ninth birthday party at the science center. Of all of the birthday parties weve had over the years, it was by far the worst. A bad experience. Their schedule is to only allow the kids 35 minutes in the science center and almost an hour for the super boring experiment and food in the smallish, hot and stuffy party room. We had 15 but they allow up to 22, I cant imagine that. It was packed with 15 kids. The party helpers were not at all helpful and complained from the beginning at the kids for their behavior - too loud, not paying attention, not sitting in their seats, etc. My son became upset because the party was such a letdown. When I was out of the room with him, one of the helpers bawled the kids out; she later told her manager that my husband had told her to do it? She actually told my husband that the loudness was the problem and proceeded with her scolding, which was just an escalation from her previous behavior. Another one of the helpers threatened a kid that I wouldnt give him a goody bag if he didnt stop his poor behavior? It was unbelievable. I know they had a long Saturday of birthday parties but I felt like the party helpers were three more kids for me to manage. We would have been better off without their "help." I set everything up myself, served almost all of the food myself and had to specifically ask them to do any small thing they pitched in with. They did help clean-up, but probably just to get us out. When it was time to go, there were almost no parents to pick-up. Turns out, the lady at the front told parents who came at the right time to come back and pick up their kids 15 to 30 minutes after the party was over? Still scratching my head about that. Its a shame. I thought this was a great idea for a kids party and it was awful.
Incredible hand-on experience that my kids loved! A personal favorite was the Experiment Bar, which allows selection of kid-friendly experiments that balance fun and learning (topics included density, gels, magnetism, and experiments rotate). We also found opportunities to explore aerodynamics, circuits, gears, and many other topics. Cant wait to return!
Incredibly fun hands on exploration of science & math concepts for kids! We were surprised at how much there was for even our 1 year old. All staff use excellent scientific method language when working with the kids getting them to think about what is happening & why in their experiments. I suggest this place to everyone!
