My son had an amazing time. Plenty of adventure for an 18 month old. We spent over 2 hours here and he still want wow ready to leave. Definitely recommended.

Amazing place for the kids. Adventures, science, play. Just the „all day ride“ pass wasn’t worth it. Go buy the ride by ride.

I have been to a lot of childrens museums but by far this was the best. So much to do and constantly keeps the kids busy. There is room to sit in case your child stays at a single place for a while. Walking room can get cramped in places but a great museum. We are very happy with our experience visiting here

My daughter liked it so much that she made me go back after we took a break for lunch. Lots to do, even when not raining! Dont miss the outside playground and little cave inside the cave. The interactive, projected video game was a hit, as was the jungle area and the air-powered silk-scarf launcher. The carousel only operates for the first fifteen minutes of every hour, so plan accordingly. Rides are $2.00, $6.00 for an all-day pass. We plan on coming back!

This CMOR has plenty of cool amenities and features to keep kids exploring and entertained. Unfortunately it is always super overcrowded everytime we have been at this location. The kids playing here are usually older, completely unhinged, and not being watched. My kids would love to come here if it was a little more calm. We prefer the chesterfield location because of this.

If you are looking for a fun indoor activity with your kids the Childrens museum is perfect. Our toddler loved all the interactive experiences and it was awesome to watch her learn while playing. Definitely plan on going back.

Amazing! My 2.5 year old loved every inch of it and was completely tired out after we left. Great place to learn new skills and tackle puzzles and climb playground equipment we dont have at our local parks.I am more upset I havent taken advantage of it before.

This was our second time visiting the museum. We come from Norfolk so its about an hour and a half drive. The first time, our 3 year old had a lot of fun so I wanted to bring him back and bring our almost one year old. This trip was much different. Our biggest complaint is that a lot of the activities were broken or out of order. It was a huge disappointment.

There is so much to explore inside and outside of the museum. Found it hard not try out the toys and games myself. Loved seeing my son explore the under 3 year old farming area, the auto mechanic shop car, and the outdoor water park. Cant wait to take him again!

My toddler had the time of his life. He was excited as soon as he walked in the door. My guy really enjoyed the water activities and the carousel. The museum has fun learning activities for kids of all ages. Its very inviting and gives kids a place to explore and discover while enjoying themselves. I cant wait to get him back here. I was especially pleased at how the staff continously sanitized stations.

Fun place to take a child of any age! My two year old had a blast. Found myself getting excited about the various areas and activities inside and out. The music making outside, the under three farm zone, and the outside water park area were our favorites. Cant wait to go back for the water tables

Absolutely amazing experience for my children. Had a gated area specifically made for children age 0-3 years old which was really nice! Staff were friendly and frequently wiping everything down. Definitely recommend this place if you have small children and want to take them somewhere safe to run, play and learn!

This is a solid place to bring young children to spend an afternoon away from a LED screen. The layout is one big room with a dozen or so themed areas including a cave, supermarket, hospital delivery room, and craft room. The splash pad outside is another nice touch for kids and parents to play together on a hot day.We were happy to find out that the Childrens Museum of Richmond was part of the same network as our local Childrens Museum in Austin, so admission was half price. This venue lacked a lot of the science and hands-on learning that weve seen in other childrens museums around the country, but given its proximity next to the Science Museum of Virginia, it makes sense that they would position themself to complement rather than compete. All in all, we had a good time, and the kids would gladly go again.

Absolutely loved this museum and so did my 2 and 7 year old. There is lots to do here, but I found myself wishing there was more! I feel like they could do so much more, but it was still a great experience. Staff was disinfecting in between groups of children, and the staff was super friendly in general. I would recommend this to anyone visiting Richmond. Its super affordable also which is a huge bonus for my family of 6. There seems to be a ton of other things to do in this area too, so you can make a whole day out of your visit.

Cool museum for the preschool set. Downside is we paid $6 for the all day carousel rides and didn’t get to go on it once. The line was so long my child didn’t have the attention span to wait given all of the interesting areas surrounding the ride. At one point the staff took a 30 minute break from it the carousel. On a busy day with rain and all outdoor areas unusable, it’s something that should keep running. The gift shop is also a bit of letdown because of you want to buy something, there’s no cashier just for that - you have to get back in the front reception line to pay. So we skipped that too. Otherwise, the staff were very courteous about wiping areas down and changing out toys in areas where the teethers may put toys in their mouths. If they had 1-2 more employees on a Saturday they’d be functioning much better. It seems like a place that’s probably much nicer on a weekday if you have the luxury of visiting then.

The children’s museum of Richmond at Chesterfield was where I had my daughters birthday party this weekend and it was such a wonderful experience! The museum is clean and safe with fun activities for all ages ( we had party guests aged 2-13. The room was clean and ready for us to decorate and they even stored some food for us until it was time to eat. The staff are friendly and accommodating. Highly recommend for birthday parties and visits!

This was a great little museum. We went after a long day of driving to Richmond for an appointment for my 3 year old daughter. We got there at 4pm and only had an hour to play. They give a half off discount for arriving after 4pm. She really enjoyed everything. I think it is DEFINITELY suited towards the younger preschool aged crowd. It has a nice outdoor area which was unexpected and also a water area you could play and get wet, if you were prepared for that. Since we only stayed an hour, we didnt get to experience the art center or the carousel. So I didnt give 5 stars because we didnt get the full experience. You can absolutely see and do almost everything in an hour or two, so Im glad we went anyways even though we were short on time.

A cute and small children’s play and activity center, less so a museum. However, there are plenty of opportunities to learn about various topics. At nine dollars per person, $27 for a family of three was not expensive, but I don’t think there was as much value in the price paid. Some portions of the museum didn’t have many interactive toys so it felt like a big room with very little to do inside. The museums for all pass allows people who hold EBT and WIC cards an opportunity to pay $2/person.Like other reviewers have said, there is a merry-go-round in the middle of the building that operates on a paid basis. In my opinion, I think this is poor design in regards to consideration for non-payers. You will hear children cry from disappointment of not understanding why they can’t go on the merry-go-round.One of the highlights of the Richmond children’s museum is the splash pad out front, it is a giant fountain with several ride on toys such as bicycles and scooters. It’s perfect for a hot day.Another wonderful part about the museum is the free and open ended arts and crafts area in the back. Everything provided is donation-based and it allows kids to choose from a variety of materials to create different mediums of art.Well we did enjoy visiting, we will probably not come back and explore other options for next time. I don’t regret going but I feel like there are better options in the future. Overall, it was a great way to spend the morning while visiting town with our toddler.

We stayed for 2.5 hrs. It was amazing and that was more than enough for my 4 and 5 year old. There were so much stations for the kids to enjoy. Next time I will bring a bath suit for the kids to enjoy the splash bad. Wel worth it. Im from NY, so I was hyped about the free parking.

Price was not to expensive around $9 a person. There is a great discount if you are receiving SNAP or WiC benefits. You have to pay extra if you want to ride the carousel $2 a person per ride or you can buy an all day pass for $6. The signage said 15 minutes rides but it was only about 4 minutes so not sure if it was changed or something else was going on. As a family we went through all of the exhibits that were set up in about 3 hours. We spent 15-20 minutes at each depending on the attention span of the children.

My kids enjoyed it, but they quickly lost interest in the play activities. Medium size facility, but priced accordingly. Staff are very kind and helpful. Pretty cool niche items set-up within, like the ambulance and dispatch center and the news caster sections. The best kept secret is the craft section. My kids are artsy, so that kept their attention the most.

CMOR is a lot of fun - lots to explore! Weve been coming here for many years. The problem is, in those years - not much has changed. Most things are geared towards the 5 and under crowd too.I brought my 6 year old the other day for the first time in awhile, and while he had fun, most activities were obviously made for younger kids. Wed love some more learning things - just signs even on the given activities. He *loves* the water table - but he was asking how it shows the water cycle, what each knob did, etc - and I couldnt answer those. In the cave, we were trying to remember which were stalactites and stalagmites - nothing to explain anything there. Also, in the theatre area - there were only 2 dress up outfits for all the kids to fight over, and no puppets for the puppet stage at all. Super disappointing. All in all, definitely worth the stop if youre in the area, especially for 2 - 4 year olds. Just not much for over 5, and nothing new if you were here 5 years ago - youve seen it all.

This was an amazing experience with our 3 year old son and newborn. This was a first time in Richmond, VA and first time at a childrens museum. The museum did not disappoint. It was completely interactive and exactly how my son pictured it from the Blippi episode he recently watched. Lol yes, he, just like your kids, and the billion kids on earth, who are addicted to Blippi, had a great time experiencing what he watched on his laptop to become a reality. I thought it was really cool to see all the things my wife and I wished to have come to reality as a kid, was absolutely a reality for this new generation. Wifey and I had a great time also since were kids at heart for life. Thank you to Childrens Museum and Richmond, VA for making us love your city and everything it has to offer. We will definitely make another trip and stay longer next time!

We had a nice time at the Childrens Museum of Richmond. We really liked the air-pipe things (dont know what they are called). Our son was particularly into the Bon Secours mini ambulance. There was a bunch to do, and the staff were beyond friendly and helpful. It was also clear that staff were constantly wiping down surfaces, so we felt free to enjoy our time without major germ fears. A very fun place to visit, but be very cautious in the parking lot! A large enough lot to fit many cars, but small enough that it can be hard to find a spot; lots of coming and going, and lots of tiny humans on foot.

Fun for little kids, but overpriced and not as clean as Id like it to be for a place with little hands touching everything. We attended a birthday party here once and that was pretty nice. You get a reserved room for the party and then get to enjoy the museum.

Great fun for all ages. However "all day" carousel ticket is a rip off. They only run it once per hour on the hour, miss it because your kid needs to use the restroom and youre waiting another hour. It costs the same as three rides, and successfully doing better than just paying one at a time would require 4 rides, meaning 4 hours with no misses. Seems unlikely.

The 2 hour visit time limit is perfect to keep pace with a kids attention span as they go from play area to play area, mine just finished seeing every area at the closing time so dont be put off by the time limit. Cool play areas and play equipment for kids with a well maintained arts and crafts section.

We had a great time. The age 3 and under section has been completely redone and today was the first day it was open so we were the first group to use it. It was also decorated for Christmas and had an exhibit section with tiny rooms we could enter decorated and dedicated to different holidays celebrated this time of year all over the world.

I would give this place 3 stars. It is in desperate need of maintenance. We expected so much more from this place. It cost $37 and that was with a discount. They would have had more fun at a big playground bouncy place. Most all the staff was nice but after paying so much to get in, it was an additional $4 for our 2 kids to ride the small carousel for maybe 4-5 turns (30-45 seconds at bestand only available on the hour. Not in between. Plus you had to buy tickets from the front desk and hope you made it back before they quit operating it until the next hour. Some exhibits were nice ideas but very small and the toys were beat up. The apple tree and pipes with air flow entertained them for quite a bit.We did like the TV station, the ATM machine, the cave was a new experience for the kids, and my 3 yr old loved the water play. The back playground was a great idea but in need of help. It was way too expensive for what we got. Even the art room was torn up and we had to ask if there was a project, could they refill the supplies and when we looked over a few times, the kid had his head down, was on his phone and was reading a book. Luckily the kids were easy going enough to make the best of it. We would not recommend it until the problems are fixed.

I have been here several times over the years with my children and recently came on a field trip. They have changed a few things since the last time I came but for the most part they have the same attractions/stations as they did 10 years ago. I do wish they would change or update them more often. They have added a merry-go-round but it costs $2 to ride, you have to buy the ticket from the front (meaning you will have to convince your child to leave the play area so you can purchase one.. so be sure to grab that firstand they only operate it once every hour. Other CONS: They appear to be having some current staffing issues as we were not provided a lesson for the kids when we arrived with the school. Also there was no one in the art area to assist with crafts and supplies ran out before all the kids had a chance to make anything. In addition, there was a lack in variety of costumes in the stage area compared to previous times I have attended. A few things werent working such as the pneumatic tubes and the school bell. Ok so now for the PROS: From what I have seen, it appears to be well maintenanced. I am somewhat of a germaphobe and I felt comfortable sitting on the blocks and chairs. Everything appeared to be clean and in well working order. They also have a few hand sanitizer pumps located throughout. Their is a separate area for children 3 and under, so if you have a toddler you dont have to worry about the older kids taking over! As for the rest, the learning concepts of each station are pretty invaluable! Each station is hands on interaction for the children which is a great way to learn! Kids are able to act out scenarios they would normally not have access to. I love the news station setup, the grocery store, classroom, and theater sets. My childrens favorite is the apple tree! Additionally, there is an outdoor play area; however we didnt get a chance to experience this as it was a little windy outside. Conclusion: This is a safe, convenient place for you to take your children, with plenty of space for them to run around and have fun while learning! While there are minor items in need of reoair, I will continue to return with my children and hopefully with my grandchildren one day as well.
