901 22nd St S, St. Petersburg, FL 33712, United States, Saint Petersburg
Small, homey locale for Louisiana-style Creole cuisine with seating on a garden-style patio.
Everything was delicious from drinks to apps to entrees. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Highly recommended
This place is something, am telling you. Get there at opening time; they take forever to attend you and when they serve you, you have bad food. bad that if you eat it you will get sick. you know the smells of spoiled food with the bitter smell. thats what they serve me. bay the way, I ask for Jambalaya and Gumbo; neither have the appearance of human food. The sweet tea was awful, half a cup of sugar diluted in water and no tea flavor at all. Definitely is a 👎 no go even restaurant.
Not only did the food have NO seasoning, but my boyfriend asked for NO CHEESE on his grits and they put it on there. NEXT MY GREENS HAD A LONG WIRE HOOK INSIDE OF THEM!!! Luckily I spit it out before swallowing!! I cook so I know how to tell what food is homemade and what’s not. THOSE GREENS ARE FROM OUT A CAN! NEXT the corn bread was hard, cold, and old. the lemonade tastes like nun but SUGAR and diabetes! TERRIBLE. I wish I could give 0 stars!!!!! And what makes it even worse is we are from out of town. That was a terrible impression!!!!
The hospitality was amazing and heart felt. It always a great to see and experience the culture of New Orleans food. It’s a such a sweet spot in beautiful St.Pete. Thank you Valerie!
The food was really good. The service was outstanding. Loved the unique decor. Definitely worth a try!
Charming, authentic Louisiana cuisine. Try the very generous bowl of gumbo or the creamy, flavorful shrimp and grits. We sat in the outside courtyard and it was delightful. We WILL be back with friends/family.
My family and I went for lunch and had a great time! The food was great and prices reasonable. I had the gumbo, meatballs and mac and cheese. All of which had terrific flavor. We also had the beignets but unfortunately we didnt like them. They had a strong yeasty flavor. The dining room wasnt fully reopened from Covid but from what we were told, there was really china and it was nice and fancy. It would be fun to experience it this way. But we were still able to dine in and it was a fun ambience. Val made it for me! She was our server/hostess/delicious salad dressing chef. That was some of the best dressing Ive had. She was uper sweet to out kiddos too. Made us feel like family. Overall I highly recommend.
This is great gumbo!! Definitely coming back.
This place is great, the people were extremely comforting and the food was filling, coming relatively quick. If you love spicey foods, I recommend the red beans and rice (comes with sausage).
Original Creole , talk with the chef hell tell you the history of the area, the traditional foods and variety of dishes. Talk with Val shes wonderful 😊
Cant recommend highly enough. Reminds me of growing up. The jambalaya is amazing, the fritters are amazing, best atmosphere around. And that apricot basil dressing, I mean. Unbelievable. Delicious, go right now!
Food and service was amazing! The food is made with love, and that love comes through each staff member. We were greeted at our table by the owner and the chef. We will definitely be back!
The owners are incredibly welcoming and super helpful! The food comes out very quickly, and everything is SO DELICIOUS! Super clean, beautiful atmosphere, and I highly recommend anybody to come in and try their home-made dishes and recipes.
The ambiance of this restaurant is such a vibe, very friendly staff made my Gumbo just the way I wanted it, the red beans and rice was to die for let’s not forget about the chicken wings and onion rings was cooked to perfection and last but not lease the warm bread pudding makes you want to slap you momma. We definitely visit again !!!!
Interesting experience. The staff was nice and welcoming, and they gave us a sample of the jambalaya that tasted great. The ambiance was also good; the interior had unique decorations and an authentic New Orleans feel. However, the food didnt have quite the same feel. They had a limited menu, and the étouffée tasted a bit like instant rice with a can of tomato soup poured over it. The shrimp and grits was better, but it could have used more sauce, and the shrimp was a bit overcooked and not deveined. The apricot basil salad dressing tasted great, though. They did say they had just returned from vacation and hadnt fully opened since covid, so I might have gone on an off day.Overall, Id go back for the vibes but not the food
This place is so good!!! In particular the shrimp etouffee is to die for. I was here a little over a year ago and I wish I could travel back to Florida just to eat here again I think about their food way too much. Wish I could recreate the recipe but none of my attempts come out right. If you’re in the area definitely go here my friend and I got several dishes…gumbo, jambalaya, shrimp and grits, beignets all of it was delicious. But like definitely get the shrimp etouffee!
Have been there several times . As a boy my mothers relatives were from Louisiana on the bayou , so I can vouch for the food being authentic Cajun and well worth a visit . I am sure with Covid it has affected the service but the food has remained of consistent quality
Went for the first time with a very large family group ,some who were repeat customers. What a wonderful dining experience. The food was great, the service even better. Down to earth, friendly, and humorous. They made our family feel right at home. And did I mention that the food was great?
First time eating at this restaurant. I loved the food and the outside seating was so lovely. Our waitress was awesome.Would absolutely recommend this place.I will definitely be back 👍👍
The owners and other staff were extremely friendly. Very good CREOLE food—-not to be confused with spicy Cajun food. The courtyard is a delightful eating area ! Because it’s carry out only, we had to order our beignets when we ordered . By the time we were ready to eat them, they were not at their optimum! (Order at the end of the meal folks). The bread for the po boy was perfect and so were the shrimp and grits. Even though it’s quite a drive from my home, I’ll definitely go back! Well worth it. A hidden treasure in St. Pete.
Not what it used to be. Take-out only. The fried chicken and cornbread was dry, and had PINK meat. The beignets were very good. The tea was lukewarm. Jambalaya and creole was OK.
Mr. Bs passion for his community shines through this wonderful local experience! The outdoor setting is lovely, the staff are gracious and the food is excellent! Dont miss Chiefs Creole Cafe!
Just had the Creole Trio with jambalaya, gumbo and red beans and rice. The food is phenomenal! Kenny and Terrell are the best and treat you as if you are family. I highly recommend this place and they have great outdoor seating and authentic indoor seating and decor as well. Takes me right back to Nola! Thanks gentlemen and keep up the Great ambiance.
This soul food restaurant is located near the St. Petersburg Warehouse Art District. It is a couple of miles from Tropicana Field and next door to The Dr. Carter G. Woodson African American Museum It has been a staple of the community for eight years. The portions are satisfying. The food is flavorful even when warmed up at home (do not forget your sauces… the bread pudding has one as well as fishAsk them to warm the sauce up that goes on your bread pudding…just a little…and pore it on (you are welcome). The prices are competitive. There is ample parking in the rear. Currently they are only offering carry out ordering. Consequently indoor seating is not available. But, they do allow you to eat on their patio. I highly recommend giving them a try… the sweet potato fries were “to go back for” and the corn muffins actually had corn in them. There service was welcoming. The order was brought out to the table (be kind and tip).
The food was amazing. That basil peach vinegaret is amazing. I was told that its in house made. I had the shrimp and grits. They gave a sauce to go on side. I added it to the grits it actually made the food taste extra sweet. You wont be disappointed. Its worth the trip and the money.
I don’t even know where I should begin. Everything was absolutely delightful. The moment we walked in Valerie was so welcoming and asked if it was our first time there. She gave us a sample of the jambalaya, and let me tell ya!!! Chefs kiss! So spicy and delicious. My wife ending up getting the jambalaya and I got red beans and rice. So much flavor packed into both of those dishes. Don’t skip out on trying the limeade there either. Super refreshing! There isn’t any inside seating at the moment, but they have the cutest outdoor patio. If you are down in St Pete go check it out! The whole staff was awesome and accommodating. You don’t wanna miss out on this place.
Great spot for beignets and creole. Everything about the food was on point when I ate here and the outdoor seating is great for a relaxing lunch. Only reason it didn’t quite hit the 5 star is because I feel it just slightly over priced for the amount of food you get. Other than that though its definitely a top spot in the area.
I read an article about this place so I went to visit. I ordered the Creole Trio (Shrimp Étouffée, Shrimp & Grits, Creole Gumboand the regular beignets. The beignets did not have any flavor and were not soft and fluffy. The only thing that had an ounce of flavor was the Gumbo. The remainder of the food lacked flavor. Disappointed as I had such high hopes based on what I read.
I always try to find local eats when I am on vacation, I work at a local place so I know how important it is to support local businesses. With that being said this place was amazing. The food and flavors were on point the staff were very friendly the owner came out and talked to us we felt very welcome. The ambience was nice, it was a nice treat to end our vacation so glad we found them. If you want tasty creole food this is the place!
I’ve been here twice and I’m not sure why I don’t go more often. The food is always super yummy. I had the Shrimp & cheese Grits (excellentand my Husband had the Jambalaya (tasty but very spicyand we split a side of Mac n cheese (🤤🤤🤤)The ambience is wonderful, we enjoyed the patio. The service is very friendly and always attentive. We will be back!
Great, friendly atmosphere; awesome customer service. I wasnt sure if I wanted Jambalaya or gumbo so they gave me samples of each...and the etoufe. They were all really good so I went with the gumbo. Well worth the drive from Riverview; I will definitely be back!
This is a very nice restaurant and I like the location. Had the shrimp etouffe, a salad and bread pudding and it was all so delicious. We had to do take out. We were able to go inside and order then we waited outside while it was prepared. The restaurant was clean on the inside. The wait was not too bad. The workers there were the chef and a helper and they were both very nice. Will definitely go there again.
Such a gem in St Pete. Stellar food, I got the red bean dish with spicy sausage, with a side order of collard greens. Good Lawd that food was pure deliciousness. AND THEY THROW IN A MINI CORN MUFFIN.Original cielings preserved from when it was a bar. Beautiful inside dining section, and the outdoor patio is gorgeous. The staff there are kind, funny and attentive.
We just got takeout from here and it was everything we’d hoped for! I can’t believe we live 6 minutes away and are only now trying it. We ordered the shrimp and grits, gumbo, candied yams, mac n cheese, meatballs, chicken wings (sweet hot chiliand bread pudding. We will definitely be supporting this great spot and friendly staff again, can’t wait to try their dinner menu! We will be sure to visit as soon as they fully re-open.
This is our first time here and cant wait to come back. The service was excellent. The owner came a by a couple of times to make sure we were taken care of. Our waiter appeared to be in training so beside the owner another waitress came by several times to make sure we had everything we needed. They even had a live band that night. The food was great and I look forward to trying other things on the menu.
There isnt much New Orleans style restaurant in the area. From the outside, wouldnt expect much, but the inside is roomy with old decos. Outdoor seating is really nice with a fountain. The service is great, and the owner did stopped by to check on us. However, the price is on the high side. We got the house complimentary fried okra, it was perfect. First time tried the dirty beignets, which is brown sugar, cinnamon and frosting. No where else has it, it is interesting, but still like the original from Shrimpys Blues. For the main course, Etouffee is good and decent portion, but fried chicken from creole soulful sunday is not that good, perhaps in the fryer too long. The side dishes are amazing though.
Authentic creole food. Complimentary fried ocra. We ordered dirty bieniets, gumbo, collard greens, creole chicken rice and beans, we had a lot and it was all amazing. Met Valerie who works here and she is so personable and an exceptional service representative. The atmosphere is another bonus. A must come and see for yourself.
Valerie is a treasure.....fried okra was crispy and complimentary, Jambalaya was spicy and flavorful....save room for the Dirty Beignets...Sprinkled with cinnamon and topped with a decadent bourbon sauce...dont miss this!
The food was outstanding. The crawfish fritters, creole trio, and bread pudding was more than I could handle. This was the best Ive had outside of New Orleans
First visit loved the atmosphere...like your at someones house! You are served fried okra while you review the menu...and may I suggest hit them up with some hot sauce to jazz it up! I ordered the gumbo which was different than I thought a gumbo was but hey maybe Ive never really had a good gumbo🤗 but it was a big obowl (good for two ppl)...the gumbo was good and spicy perfect for this rainy evening(I think this gumbo style would be perfect also if you were sick because it would hit the spot). My husband was the one that planned to go here for dinner and had already reviewed the food menu online and ordered the crawfish etouffee...he said it was good and rich and was different than what hes used to a dark roux. But wait you really want to save some room for those dirty beignets... cinnamon powder, frosting and guess why theyre dirty ... because they are drizzled with whiskey 🤫. Valerie was a very fun and energetic as she took care of my husband and I ...and we definitely would come back.
Dirty Beignets, Soulful Sunday Dinner, Seafood Boil, Bread Pudding, Sweet Tea Limeade.. We werent ready! Sooooooo yummy we hurt ourselves eating too much! We were greeted with a smile in the parking lot and loved the atmosphere. We had the sweetest, most adorable waitress. We will definitely be back!
The place to bring your family for authentic Creole cuisine! From the Shrimp and Grits to the Crawfish Etouffee, every dish that was served deserved 10 stars. The Mac and Cheese was on point and the fried Okra was perfect. The wings and the 2 sauces they came with, delectable! Words cant describe everything in detail so your best bet is to go down there and try everything for yourself. Bring your family for the best variety!
Amazing food, beautiful decor, and great service. The Creole Wings (sweet & spicy chiliwas fried to perfection and the sauce was extremely good, but not spicy at all in my opinion. The Creole Trio (shrimp & cheese grits, jambalaya, and creolewas very good. My favorite of the 3 was the shrimp & cheese grits. The beignets was my least favorite of my meal. They had a little too much dough and was lacking a little sweetness. But overall, an excellent restaurant, I will come back.
Awesome authentic New Orleans cuisine . Friendly staff. Our new fave place. Like being back in the Big Easy .
Had the Creole Trio(Jambalaya, Gumbo & Etouffee). A little spicy kick, but full of goodness. Definitely returning to this place. Unheated cornbread is the only bad thing that I have about this place. Service and staff were very good.
We had a wonderful time dining on the spicy jambalaya which lived up to its name. The beads of sweat were well worth the tastes. Red beans and rice were seasoned well as was the okra. The whole corn in the cornbread made added texture to a moist treat. We ended our meal with the bread pudding topped with a fantastic bourbon sauce.
Bring your friends here, bring your family, bring random strangers from off the street, just so everyone can visit and appreciate the joy that is Chiefs Creole Cafe. The service was exceptional; we were greeted by the owners as we entered, and seated immediately in the gorgeous dining area. Our waitress brought us samples of the gumbo (deliciousas well as the fried okra. We ordered the shrimp and grits as well as the catfish poboy. The lunch portion of the grits was just the right amount, and it left room for beignets afterward. Both meals were devoured too quickly for pictures, so take that as you will. The cost was low, particularly for the quality of the overall experience. It was too hot to sit in the lovely garden area, but well certainly be back to take advantage of it on a cooler day.
Thank you so much for the amazing food and hospitality today! This is one of my most favorite restaurants! Cant get enough of the shrimp and grits! You guys never fail! The jazz music today was a great bonus! I love how you always take the time to come to our table to say hello! I wish all restaurants, staff and owners treated everyone like important guests the way you do. Thank you again! 💕
My dad and I were in the mood for some Cajun flair today. My sister and her spouse had recommended Chiefs to us several weeks back, so we decided to give it a try. What we experienced was delightful--the warm, welcoming atmosphere was trumped only by the sensationally seasoned entrees. The portions were generous at very reasonable pricing. The gumbo was killer, the etoufee was spicy and richly flavored. Did I mention the freshly baked corn muffins?! Awesome stuff. Will be back soon!
We went in later in the evening and were the only ones in the restaurant. The décor is awesome. The food was superb and the service was great. Some of the best jambalaya I have had outside of Louisiana. I am looking forward to dining here again, perhaps on one of the Soul Food Sundays.*I have returned for a second visit and it was even better. If you havent been yet you should go.
