Chicago's Piano Bar - Live music bar in Johannesburg, South Africa
One of my favourite hangouts....
It was a bit crowded but a fantastic jol
Well what can I say....Saturday night / Sunday morning ....had an awesome time ...dancing between up stairs and down.....We had a long overdue "jol" and thank you to Chicagos for yet again giving us an awesome time!!!! Till next time ..... JC
Its an alright place to go to if you have nowhere else to go. Music in my opinion is very ehhh though (at least in the upstairs bar - I dont know about downstairsbecause its not my taste, but others seem to enjoy it. They also need an upgrade of their speakers upstairs though. From what I remember, the food is at least okay. Drinks arent too expensive. Pool tables upstairs are not great though - the one was broken and I have had it where the cues have no tips. I also feel like the decor inside the place could be better upstairs. It feels kind of slapped together. But all round, it isnt too bad - I have had good times at Chicagos - so I give it 3 stars.
Loved this place shall be going again friendly service and well priced
It was a fun evening with great old school music to dance to, place to play pool for those not inclined to dance and good food. Reminiscent of those supper clubs of days gone by. We had a great evening celebrating a birthday and will definitely be back.
Absolutely wonderful place for a fun night out!!! The table setup has changed slightly but its still very comfortable.
Beautiful set up. Menu great and the Quiz evening wasnt shabby at a
I would have given a 5 star rating, first time there and my husbands phone was stolen on the 19th of August late evening.May people just realised this has a negative impact on their clientele.
Awesome live music venue. Good food.
This was an awesome exp80 Music galore ...live singing was.amazing. value for money on drinks and food.
I would like everyone to know just how utterly disappointed I am at the bouncers and manager at Chicagos. Following a lady collapsing on the dance floor and the DJ requesting anyone with medical experience to help the lady, I immediately went to go help the lady as I am a medic. She had dislocated her knee. After stabilizing her and trying to calm her down, I was screamed at by 2 bouncers, who refused to listen. I was then pushed out and the lady was then dragged out by her limbs and placed on a bench. I was then told to "go home". The lady who I helped was very appreciative of the help I provided, she agreed how this behavior by Chicagos bouncers was extremely disappointing. I will say that the waiters at Chicagos are very friendly. This matter was between the bouncers and the on duty manager who sympathized with the bouncers.RE the owners response:I am extremely disappointed with the owners response.I did not insult the bouncers or anyone from the Chicagos team, I specifically asked them to calm down (as they were shouting at meand asked them to allow me to them explain what was happening to the lady. The lady did manage to walk after "10 minutes" only because I assisted with relocating her patella (knee cap), if I didnt then she most likely wouldnt have been able to walk out.I saw the lady afterwards and she completely agreed with me on how wrong the bouncers behavior was and said she was going to complain to management the next morning. If your team needs assistance with training on how to handle medical situations please let me know. As it is evident their training on how to handle a medical situation is sorely lacking. Manhandling medical personnel is not how its done.
Great place for food and dance. Younger crowd upstairs and the older dancing crowd downstairs. Thursday Karaoke is loads of fun. Only down fall to this place is the drink prices are on the high side.
Difficult to get drinks ors waitress service, shooter staff are not interested and stay at one table drinking shots and smoking.
Realy one of the better locations, good crowd of mixed ages and tastes
Still think this is the best classical place to hangout. A place to escape your daily life and enjoy the best of music.
Expected it to be a lot nicer. Tried to serve us a chicken burger instead of a veggie burger and apparently only the manager knows what a piece of chicken is. The waiter and chef should be trained
I do the Karaoke twice every two weeks on Thursday nights with Karaoke Joe (my dadand I must say it does draw a lot of talent and attention, love the vibe especially knowing my homie Twisted Synergy is holding it down from upstairs for all the lyties and young at heart🔥🔥🥳🥳
Lekker jol, food isnt great, no coffee or tea available but still had a good time
Sunrise tequila R89 🙃😭more ice then anything and hunters almost R50 come on guys this is day light robbery
I went to this place in April 2022 on a Sunday night (long weekend). Had a great time! Fun and friendly crowd. Music was very good. Went again 28th May 22. Not as great as previous visit. Different type of crowd. People were very very drunk. It got worse as the night progressed. Some men were forward. Just out of the blue, grabbed my friend s hand to dance, just whisked her around on the dance floor like Speedy Gonzalez! Later on another guy came up to this friends husband , before my friend knew what was happening he was swept away on the dance floor! Although it was hilarious to us, my friends husband was quite surprised and embarrassed! I understand the bar needs to make money but as the night continued, some other people got ridiculously intoxicated which was a total put off for me and my family. As we took our leave, a fight was about to break out. My earlier experience there was extremely pleasant and enjoyable in comparison to the latter, so much so that my hubby refuses to go back there. I would like to believe that its not always like this! I suppose different night, different crowd??
My happy place, an exceptionally talented live band who entertains the crowd with a variety of music covers where one can dance, enjoy a delicious meal on a smoke free dance floor.
Good dayTo whom.it may concern myself and my colleagues ordered food from you guys today I would like to add the pics we took of the fish however I do not see an option and hopefully you would be able to provide one we ordered fish one grilled and 2 battered .my colleagues fish was burnt and it tasted burnt as well this was very disappointing as mine was very nice ..We did not bring it back as we did not have the time .Please do take care when preparing food that is collected as this was not a pleasant experience at all
Wouldnt even go there if you payed me to , the bouncers think they can just start threatening people when you are taller then them. I would never recommend this place to anyone ever utterly awful
It was an amazing atmosfeer people where friendly and staff where fast and helpful
Good vibes for all. Live music on the main floor and DJ on upstairs floor
What a nice and beautifull place. All tipes of entertainment. Young and older people will feel welcome. Very Friendly service. There is some steps to consider. Will defenitly visit them again.
Great place! The elderly man acting DJ was less great.
Did not enjoy Chicagos Piano Bar the DJ never played any of the the song requests I asked for my friends phone and wallet got stolen by the staff of Chicago Piano Bar its unsafe and I highly recommend no one goes there
What a great spot for a night out. The staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful. The music and venue is great. The crowd varies from 20s to 60s and has a great vibe. Will definitely visit again.
Hi. In hindsight I think my review was unfair. I was at Chicagos Piano Bar for a very short amount of time and everything was fine.I changed my review to 5 stars now because you took the time to reach out, and that is commendable. Keep up the good work!
Great place for the mature generation. Had a good time dancing with the live band playing.Food wise...stick to burgers and chips...basic pub grub
Great music, great band. Its lovely to see so many people of all age groups smiling and having fun!
Place needs to be shut down, Saturday the 6th of February 2022 my drink (beerwas unfortunately spiked by an unknown gentlemen. Thank God I am a trained first aider, so I was able to react fast. What was meant to be an amazing night for my family and friends turned into a nightmare. Spiking ones drink is crime that can be sentenced to 10 years. Imagine I wasn’t trained and was alone I could have possibly died or gone into anaphylactic shock! (This all happened at the top dance floor)
It was really great. I had my 40th party there last night and everything was done the way I asked. Waiters were friendly and food and music was great.
We drive 60km to go to Karaoke on a Thursday. It best to go at the end of the month. The crowd is diverse and there are some good singers. If you dont like the karaoke you can go to the bar upstairs where they cater for the younger crowd.
Not very impressed with this place. My phone was stolen there on three occasions so the security and surveillance ( if existent is very poor. Was there last week Wednesday and wanted to go upstairs to play some pool but the music volume was turned down and when I kindly asked the DJ to turn it up upstairs he was very rude and not assisting. Not quite there yet Chicagos you still have some work to do.
Awesome spot, karaoke evenings are the best
Lovely place yes ..but drinks is way to expensive but ok its understandable you have to make up to keep you business open .Due to Covid restrictions..Food is lovely waiters on da ball
Im only giving 2 stars because of the incredibly rude bouncer and manager. After being denied entrance, due to the fault of the bouncer and then requesting to see the manager, which by the way couldnt even look us in the eyes after they realized it was their fault, we were given no apology whatsoever, and we were genuinely treated like scum. I love Chicagos. I love the vibe but after being treated so badly I wont be back.
I use to love this place. But the last time I was there, I was there with a couple of friends... The whole night we all ordered on one bill... Our waiter presented the bill to one of my friends who took it upon himself to settle the whole bill. After that another waitor brought the exact same bill to me, not knowing my friend already settled the whole bill, I again paid for the whole bill. When we left and stood in the parking lot downstairs. The waitor came and grabbed me by my arm and yelled across the parking lot that I am stealing as we have not paid our bill. We proceeded back upstairs and had a very heated argument with the manager on duty who then presented us with a different bill, that I then again paid. On this bill were beverages we did not order that night, still to keep the peace I agreed to pay. The manager took my contact details and my friends contact details and informed me that he will call me if there has been a mistake. The following day they called my friend, who is a bit more relaxed and softer than I am, and told him that the bill was never paid, who then proceeded to pay the bill again. In total we paid R3890 for a hour and half at this place between 4 people who had 3 drinks each and 2 shooters each. I am absolutely disgusted with the theft and poor service from this place
Great atmosphere but I was annoyed because they are super busy on certain nights and they clearly short of waiters. Why not hire more ...there is so many people looking for work. In that way you do t have to wait 25min at the bar to order...you will sell more drinks and.make more money!also the waiters say drinks specials for half an hour but they definitely dont keep to that time. They have so much potential to run a classy operation
We had such an awesome time at Chicago Piano Bar on Saturday 31st Oct 2020 for Halloween. The owners were very accommodating and met our every need. The food was spectacular. Well be back 🌺🍾🕸🕷
Awesome place, live music, 80s music. Older people downstairs and youngsters upstairs. No need for alcohol.
Quoted as being ‘The bee’s knee’s, the big cheese, the cats meow!” of JohannesburgChicago’s Piano Bar is a 1920’s Gatsby themed ‘Adult party playground’.Shimmy & pop to the best beats in the business 6 days a week. This Super Club boasts 2 locations in Johannesburg. Each with 2 bars, 2 dance floors, a speakeasy room, casino slots machines, live entertainment & talented DJ’s.
Very good food, although the service was a bit slow. My husband was already past half through his draught & we didnt have our mojitos yet. I suppose it was bcos of the time (about 12:30we were there. In the drinks picture, is already his 2nd draught
Great live music and chill zone for a Sunday afternoon. Enjoyed the Grilled fish and chicken schnitzel specials!
Last night we went again and were very dissapointed. We never order food and cocktails only drinks. We were greeted by the manager, very friendly, and then was seated by one of the waiters. We decided to order cocktails amd a few starters. My wife ordered a Magarita and I ordered a tequila sunrise. When the drinks came we were shocked by the quality of the cocktails. My wifes drink tasted like watered down apple sours with no ice and mine was bland with minimal ice. We called the waiter over and asked to cancel the food. The manager got a sniff of this and approached us kindly. We showed him my wifes drink and he kindly offered to remake it himself. The return of the drink was better missing the crushed ice but had a lot of big ice blocks. Not pong after our food arrived. Errrrr the crumbed mushrooms was nothing that i expected, instead of small crispy coated mushrooms we received big thinly sliced black mushrooms that were cripsy. Our Tipsy Prawns werent very tasty and we left half of it. The chips and cheese suace was pleasant though. My advice please invest in a ice crusher and teach the staff to make very nice cocktails and pay a bit more attention to the food. The live music is awesome.
Such a fantastic vibe, awesome place to chill on a Sunday afternoon with fantastic music by Blue Velvet.
My favourite place to go to dance, love that it is over 21s and a mature age group. Jukebox type singalong songs, live band and love the gatsby theme. Ive celebrated various family and friends birthdays at chicagos and we all dress up and get into the theme, or themes of our own. steak and fish are great
