Chiba Zoological Park - Animal park in Minamata, Japan
Chiba Zoological Park in Minamata
Description
Privilege
I havent seen this many animals so visible and active in a long time. Otters, kangaroos, lions, ostriches, monkeys zebras, giraffes, elephants, beavers, and more! All the animals looked well cared for. There was also a taiko drum performance with food trucks (tako-yaki, yaki-tori, yaki-soba, and moreon the day we visited. The entrance fee was only ¥700 (less than $5 with 2022 rateswhich is a great deal.
MoreIt was a good experience in the park
The zoo felt old and some of the enclosures felt a bit small for the animals. Yes it was easy to see the animals but they felt small. But besides that the animals look healthy.
MoreLarge area with lots and domestic and wild animal. Beautiful jungle, lots of playing space for kids as well. Can play with animals.
MoreI have seen many zoological parks around the world but I definitely say that this chiba zoological park is the best in the world. The way the staff is treating animals here are out of the world. First time I have seen that animals are having fun in the zoo. There are lot of open spaces for animals and their is big jungle around the park.
MoreIt was a quite a while since I spent out side with family since covid19 pandemic. This zoo is reasonable price, my 5 y/o daughter enjoyed pony ride. Big daughters enjoyed horse ride. Its a great experience for them in these years.
MoreBest place for your kids
It gets busy on weekends. Good for kids with a lot of activities.Kids can feed animals too.Restaurants were okay too.You can bring your own tent or tables etc.

MoreVery nice zoo for local people. Its about 1 hour from Tokyo or Narita with JR train and Chiba monorail. Animal species are similar to Ueno zoo except for Giant Panda . Animals here are given far more space, and look less stressed. You may watch their natural behavior like courtship behavior of Malayan tapir, and nest_building of shoebill. On the other hand, it may be less special for foreign tourists.
MoreIts worth going there.
Small zoo.. but clean and tidy.700JPY for parking. 700JPY for entry ticket.Approx 2hrs you can spend here.. Good thing is you can see the animals very closely.
More(Aug 2021Affordable, the gorilla exhibit was under construction. Could definetly use more space.
MoreThe cheetahs were fun to see, and the loin was cool, but the place needs a bit of general maintenance.
MoreVery interesting places
A bit too oldNot recommended if you are not nearby
wonderful place for kids to refresh up.
A nice day had by all, missed the cheetah cubs, love the new additions, parts are getting old and need refurbishment
MoreNice place to hang on. The Lions, Cheetahs 🐆and Monkeys🐒so entertaining😊
MoreI brought my family for a visit and enjoyed this zoo very much. The zoo has a lot of greens and natural landscape for most of its animals. The only drawback is that this zoo doesnt has many animals.
MoreA good place to see some exotic animals. There are many side-attractions inside and the best one for me is the lake.
MoreAmazing zoo for the price. Almost no visitors.

MoreThere are many monkeys, savannah animal, birds and small animal. We can also feed alpaca, horse, rabbit, goat.
MoreGood zoo and fun attractions for kids by the entrance /exit
Did not have a lot of animals. Feeding times on pamphlet were wrong. Seemed like most of the animals were not out in there enclosures. Most animals were just singles and all alone. There are other zoos around that are much better.
MoreA beautiful place for a one day trip. Great for dry picnic.Animals here, i found treated very well than any other Zoo.
MoreThe animal enclosures were better than many zoos Ive been to, and the animals seemed well treated (except for the depressed looking penguins)
MoreWell maintained! Bring the kids :well above average from where I come from. Thumbs up.
MoreIf you enjoy seeing animals in enclosures then this is your place. Good for small children.
MoreBeautiful place, Close to home!
Very pleasant atmosphere and easy to reach with Monorail. Its not big though, but very impressed hiw they treat animals so friendly. My two kids had good time here.
Moregreat place !
Beautiful place to visit and spend a family day.
I was not comfortable with the sight of animals in cages. They seem to be treated decently enough and the Staff are kind to them. But they should really be free, like us, to go wherever they want. Did they ever really had that choice? The most heart-rending sight , for me, was that forlorn Golden Eagle, dragging its majestic wings on the floor of its cramped cage. Theres no more pitiable sight than An Eagle in a Cage.Free the Animals !!!
MoreVery interesting for kids am very happy
Be there early if youre willing to visit this zoo!
Great fun for the whole family! Try the petting zoo!
Good place for children...huge park..
So fun here while seeing live animals.I amazed seeing like Lion King.
Well located and easily reachable. Well maintained. Many types of animals. Different types of monkeys.
MoreCompared to zoos in Japan and other counties, Chiba zoo might seem a little small and not well kept. However, the entry price has been raised recently and there seems to be some renovation and redevelopment going on, which I hope will lead to much needed improvement for the animals.
MoreVery large park. We walked for 4 hours and did not see everything. The animals appear well kept and the zookeepers will feed the animals and give talks about them while you can take pictures and learn about the animals
MoreThis is a good family day out. Its also cheap as adults are 700 yen and children (including up to high school studentsare free. Its easy to get there by public transit - the Chiba City Monorail stops right there - and there is plenty of parking. There are a lot of older exhibits that are too small for the animals and the poor elephant isnt doing well, but theyve been improving sections gradually over the last few years with more modern enclosers and more domestic animals. There are several petting zoo type exhibits that give children a chance to interact (and clean up aftersheep, goats and other farm animals. Some of these are free, but others cost money. In addition to looking at animals in cages, there are a variety of educational events and non-zoo activities such as bouncy castles, art projects, small childrens rides and several other things. Two recommendations. First go early. Many of the animal are much more active in the morning. Its the best time to see the lions and many of the other large animals awake. In adition to that, bring a picnic lunch. They have a few food options, but theyre expensive and not great. However there is a lot of space to set up and eat a nice picnic.
MoreIt was nice that there very few people and it allowed us to see the animals and breathe a little. The zoo itself feels a little run down.
Morethe place is very clean, so green many trees, the animal is not many but enough.
Very enjoyable visit, with many interesting animals and a childrens zoo. Conveniently accessed via the monorail. Note that it is not open on Wednesdays.
MoreAs a metro zoo I guess this place does what it can with limited funding but the lion enclosure is incredibly small and barren for such a large cat. Likewise there seemed to be little effort of enrichment via environment design or the addition of toys to the elephant enclosure which is a shame. A lot of animals seemed to be engaging in repetitive behaviors that can, as Ive learned at other zoos, be attributed to stress or boredom from their enclosures. Not sure Id go back.
MorePlace was really nice, although I felt like there were limited quantity of animals in compare to other zoos I visited. There was no availability of English Map.I entered first to the "Fureai" area and my kid wanted to eat but at that area variety of food is limited (hot dog and pork), inside the zoo there are more options (soba, yakitori, fried potato, others)The area close to the small lagoon is very nice with (not many people go until this placeand there are many fishes which my kid really liked.
MoreIt is a small Zoo with few members of each animal. It was nice weather and we liked the green environment. 700 yen for parking and 700 yen adult entrance fee. Children are free of charge
