Chez Jean Mi - Oyster bar restaurant in Bordeaux, France
What an amazing place! It was bustling with people and vibrancy.A huge place, full of amazing food and passion. We managed to get a seat at a fresh seafood place inside and it was amazing !!You must go here
Local, seafood is really good, prices are fair (seafood platter for 30€, a bough for 3and everybody is very nice and welcoming. I tried speaking French and they were super patient and replied in French! Yay!
perfect place to start your day as you explore the market.I enjoyed a delicious simple petite dejuner with a shot of Armangcac.Highly recommended, sit at the counterOh the service is top, always leave a tío for the hard working staff.okay I had to come back to have the oyster breakfast if you are in Bordeaux you must come to this place to get the real market experience.they are kind the food is great the atmosphere is top what else could you ask for?
Great little spot in the market for a drink as well as fresh food from their stand. They have some tables as well as a bar. The mousse au chocolat was eaten right up by the kids, and the wine was enjoyed by the adults. Service was pleasant. Great little spot to take a seat and enjoy the bustle of the market. Caution: you are surrounded by fish stands, so if you don’t like the smell of fish, you may want to try one of the other spots there.
Very nice place to eat in the market. Always busy but totally worth it. Great place to spend a Saturday or Sunday morning. Prices are correct for great quality.
A breakfast of oysters, fish soup and white wine. Great. The market is really nice in general with good food and friendly atmosphere. This place is no exception and prices are very reasonable.
We had a mixed seafood platter, a fish soup and some shrimps. The lobster had a strange taste, the shrimps were very tasty. The soup could have been a bit more intense. The place was very crowded and the service tried hard but was also very weak.
Very tasty seafood. Excellent service.
Amazing place for brekkie, brunch or lunch!Fresh seafood, friendly service and great drinks!
Very fresh seafood, friendly staff who speaks English. We ordered the plate for two, the waiter explained to us what it contains. Excellent.
Nice place, you will find mostly locals here. But after trying oysters already on other places, these didn’t seem fresh. Which not only affects the taste, but can also have major consequences.
I might be thy customer, but I wont be thy standee----The location submerges you with the vibes and the hustle of the market. This might well be appealing if properly managed, however it requires spot on logistics that unfortunately Chez Jean-Mi is lacking. What you end up with is a mesmerising chaos with a vague resemblance of organisation.Customers - like the Andrew Rosenhill himself - are being seated at a table only to be asked to stand up and join a malformed queue after a few minutes.Like in good reality-bending sci-fi movie, future and past clash with each other. We got seated after diligently waiting in a queue, only to see waiters taking orders first from customers group number 2, who joined the famous queue a good 10 minutes after us.The grand finale, which we were lucky enough to witness:For how much we tried, we couldnt manage to make an order as the only waiter in charge of our seating area prepared and brought food to customers group number 2.After which, they decided to take orders and head to prepare food for customers group number 3, before even considering us.All in all, the market offers plenty of choices, so I would recommend to just pick another spot where you can actually eat, drink and enjoy the atmosphere.
Great service. They were all very patient with my English. The oysters are great and fresh! The shrimps are surprisingly sweet and fresh. Even the bread was very good... And all only 17 euros. I ask them if the bill was wrong because it was to cheap for that. I will suggest to all my friends that visit Bordeaux.
I have breakfast here everyday bcoz food is fresh and price is reasonable. Oysters and champagne 😍😍😍Juicy, creamy oysters 😋😋😋
Great fresh fish and seafood for a very fair price. Great atmosphere in the market hall. You might need to wait 10-15 mins for actable but it’s worth it!
Had 2 coffee crèmes there. And then realised that All the other tables were having oysters and wine at 10am in the morning, so we thought it must be worthwhile. And it was!Service were run off their feet, but very good at what they were doing
Great service, was very busy but as soon as tables were available we were seated promptly and taken care of instantly, quality food and drink and easy to talk despite being a busy district with the market
We stumbled into the market not sure exactly where to eat but knowing that my husband wanted some oysters. After a loop or two of the market Chez Jean-mi had the best looking fish, fresh and you saw the guy shucking as orders came in! Lots of people looked happy so we sat down for a wonderful lunch meal. It was absolutely delicious and what a steal! 6 oysters + a glass of wine 🤯 I got the charcuterie plate and a red wine, it was fantastic! GO HERE!
Enjoyed the soup. Liked the platter. Good service
Fresh quality ingredients and really cheap prices! Must go
Great food at fair price in the vibrant location of Marché des Capucins. Excellent experience
What’s not to love. Reasonably priced and simple food. Oysters and a glass of wine for 10 euro or there abouts. Super tasty and good value.
Great market bar to taste the oysters with a wine/beer while see the people buying local products at the market or just chilling enjoying. For 6 oysters (with bread and butter), White wine and beer, was like 12e total
fish soup rich and tasty.shrimps/crevettes fresh and firmfresh squeezed OJ quite goodoysters.. wasnt impressed.kind staff
Best brunch when in France
Prawn very sweet. Oyster very fresh. Not expensive and not cheap either. EUR 15 per portion of assorted seafood.
Small choice, very basic and simple. And exactly that is why you should come here!Great for some oysters and a glas of wine!
A w e s o m e. The best seafood I ever ate.
Great place to visit and eat well. The seafood was delicious and the staff was friendly, even if it was busy. Will be back!
Not sure if it was the wrong season, oyster was disappointing. Some of the staffs speak english which is helpful to order. If you want to have breakfast like a local, this is a place to experience but dont expect much from the food.
Oysters were so fresh and delicious. Service took a bit but understandable as the place was packed even on a weds mid morning.
Excellent place and some of the best oysters Ive ever had especially considering its the off season. We payed 36€ for two plates of oysters 3 glasses of wine and two soupe de poissoin. Great food and friendly staff.
For the love of all that is good in this world, please visit this place. Fabulous seafood platter, right next to the guys that ship it into the market, fresh and delicious as you can get it. Plus the prices are unbelievable. But do get there early as it fills up quick, and for good reason.
Great seafood plater, its really fresh and tasty! It gets really crowded quickly so you may have to wait before getting a table but its worth it. Oysters are particularly delicious!
A must do in bordeaux. Recommended early arrival (around 11.30as it gets busy every day.
Simple yet delicious. No frills necessary.
Checked out this great little oyster & wine bar on a Sunday afternoon with some friends. Located right at the one of the entrances when you enter the market. It was very busy and we had to wait in line to be seated for three people, but it didn’t take more than 15-20 minutes. Once seated our waitress was quick to take orders and gave us a really great recommendation on a bottle of white wine. Food was quick to come out, we ordered two dozen oysters and a seafood platter with the freshest crabs claws, shrimp, and even more oysters. Service was excellent considering how busy it was and we felt very welcomed as tourists. Everything was very reasonably priced as well, the entire meal including the wine was right under €80. If you love seafood, especially oysters, I’d say this is a must go to spot while visiting Bordeaux.
So youre telling me I can get six huge oysters, bread, and house wine, all for UNDER 9 euros?!?! Chez Jean-Mi, please relocate to somewhere within driving distance to me.I love everything about his place, great bread and butter, fresh oysters, and awesome house wine. And its located in a local market. Do yourself a favor and check this place out
For wo loves see foodBest place in bordeaux
Sea food lovers definitely this is the place! And also budget friendly! dont forget it closes at 13.45
A must when in Bordeaux to soak up the market atmosphere and try the seafood. All was great apart from the crab which we are pretty certain was frozen rather than fresh. Lovely friendly staff and overall fab, vibrant experience.
O🇫🇷M🇫🇷GIncredible...they move through so much seafood that it is very fresh...expect a line up the later you go.Prices are excellent. Friendly staff... love love love
Fresh, tasty & delicious oysters with lemon. I trully recommend this place everyone whos as much seafood freak as I am.
Amazing seafood, great service and a perfect market atmosphere
Great seafood! Quite cheap considering quality and quantity, especially comparing to other places with similar dishes. Dont expect fine dining experience, its more like a street food (but with plastic chairs, tables and waiterswith a lot of local people and super friendly stuff. Last but not least, there are a lot of wines to choose from.
Very fresh seafood and good service. Accepts card, pay at the till. Look out for any specials which arent on the menu or clearly indicated anywhere. €12.50 for the seafood platter in the photo. €2 for the house white wine. The rillete was under €5 and can be shared between two. Cheese platter was around €6. Prices were very good for oysters, prawns, sea snails etc compared to the mark ups in a restaurant. Even though the market closes at 1, the restaurant is still open after then but watch out as they may run out of certain dishes.
Sit outside in the sun if you can. Oysters were great, big and very fresh, they dont even shuck it all, you have to pick it off the shell yourself and there were bits of oyster shell in mine. We had a lovely glass of white wine and fresh complimentary bread too! The waiter wasnt the best and a little slow, he didnt bring us water as requested either. But a good place to stop by for down fresh oysters!
Amazing price for delicious oysters! Make sure to line up at the counter to be seated first, all of the seafood here looks amazing! Had 6 oysters with 2 wines and came to around €10
Great place for seafood. Try their seafood platters and fish soup.
This is a great place - eat local and with the locals. Great prices, very friendly and specialising in seafood. Great view of the hustle and bustle of the market.
