Chez Aro - Restaurant in Papeete, French Polynesia
Closed. Came at around 7pm on a Tuesday and it looked like a deserted parking lot. When I asked the food truck across the road if she knew of Chez Aro in my mediocre French she started laughing and replied “prison break” then laughed alongside her colleague. Not sure what to make of that, but rest assured they are definitely not open.
This was a short walk from the airport and refreshing food! Far better than anything the airport had to offer and a quaint taste of Tahiti before leaving the country. Wonderful!
This place was just a few minutes from our hotel, so we decided to give it a try. The food was delicious and the prices are reasonable. We got the meka (swordfishand salmon, both with fries. The fish was perfectly cooked and was so flavorful on its own. The sauces were all good. The barbecue sauce is a little on the sweet side. The Roquefort and pepper sauce are both cheese-based and served warm. Overall, we thought this was a great spot for a casual dinner.
This place was so good! Lots of locals, so it has to be a good spot. :the Meka (swordfishand Tahitian Salmon were our favorite. The sauces were delicious. The pepper sauce is more of a cheese sauce, but so delicious. And the best part is it was super affordable and huge portions. Can not recommend this place enough.
Bonne nourriture
Fantastic gem in the middle of the Pacific Ocean ask! Had a wonderful time while visiting Tahiti, and this particular place in Papeete is wonderful. The food was amazing, the service was great, they treat everyone like family. When you were there you can tell how hard they try to do a great job, and they succeed by far.
This is a very great place to visit it. Very tasty food. Large portions. We took one serving for 2 persons. The entrecote is delicious. Mostly visited by local people. there were no free tables. I recommend to visit
Great little place just a 5-6 minute walk from the airport. We stayed at the airport motel before heading home and found this local gem. They are cash only and only accept local currency (XPFbut that’s really easy to get from the airport ATM - 5000XPF was more than enough for two people. The menu is in english so it’ll be easy to figure out what you want, we ordered one of the ribeye with fries and chicken with fries and it was our favorite meal of the trip. The barbecue sauce they provide is so good! The food comes on a large platter, way bigger than your standard plate. I’d rather eat here than the resort food I’ve had through the trip.
This place is awesome. A short 6min walk from the airport, the food is infinitely better than anything you can get there. Its filled with friendly locals and the fish is fantastic. Cash only and no alcohol.
Interesting local vibe. Outdoor restaurant. Cash only. We ate bbq chicken and fish. All platters come with salad. The green beans side was a half a platter - enough for 4 people! Probably best off having one person order fries or green beans, for instance, and someone a different side because they are all very large and can be easily shared.
Extra, lieu à ne pas manquer..les poissons sont délicieux..
Une adresse connue pour son poisson, excellent !
Plats xxl et super bons!Meilleure roulotte de Papeete
Très bon et belle ambiance
Polynesian food with lots of french influence. Truly delicious fresh grilled fish, with a good salad and fries. Price was pretty reasonable ($17 for a large grilled fish, fries and breadand the portions were hearty (although me and my travel partner loved it so much there wasnt anything left but some stray fries and a bit of bread). The place was busy and had a pretty varied crowd. Service was quick right at 6 pm, but there was a line after. The ambience was simple but clean, with covered outdoor seating and fun light strings everywhere. As in every restaurant we have gone to on this trip, there was a friendly house cat.
Bon
Oh my goodness this was my favorite restaurant from our trip to the island. The fish was exquisitely fresh, the place is entirely unpretentious, the portions are huge.
Aro has some basic food that all Tahitian loves and also foreigners who loves eat at the "roulotte",food truck. Not only the portion is quite good but also the taste. The fries are always crispy and Ive never had soggy or cold served, always hot and crispy. If your not and amateur of beef you can also have chicken meat. They basically have two sauce, barbecue and Rockford sauce.Another dishes you will defenitly want to to try is the raw fish!Tahitian raw fish is a must.Coconut milk, lemon with fresh tuna and vegetables!Fresh and delicious.most of the year is hot at night so having a fresh meal is a plus.Very convenient if you want to have one last dinner before taking your flight.Spotted near the airport.Price around the same that you will found anywhere but this is in my top three.
Super roulotte, patron aux petits soins poisson grille au top !
Ce nest plus ce que cétait le service est plus comme avant le temps de cuisson des aliments ne sont plus respecter
Hidden Tahitian secret. Large portions for fairly decent prices. Friendly staff. The fish is great if you can get it.
Great roulotte with good food, big portions and reasonable prices
Great Roulotte with friendly staff and huge portions. It seems very popular with the locals as well and thats always a good sign. The menu is only in french but they explain it to you in english if thats needed.
Agree with both posts. Friendly service, great steak and chips in casual local setting. Worth a visit.
Fabulous, highly recommend this place. Huge servings and extremely cheap. Although its a local place they were extremely accommodating with our lack of French. Just a 5 minute walk from the airport. Cant recommend it enough.
Very awesome! Cool local place close to the airport. We walked there during our layover. Menu is all in French, they dont take credit cards, so get some XPF cash money before you go. Streets are dark, but safe. People on the streets on the way there did not bother us. The staff was very friendly, and the very nice man at ARO with the black mustache who I assumed was the owner spoke some english, and helped us with the menu. We ordered the first thing on the menu, which was a huge steak, tons of french fries, and a nice side salad. Even came with bread and a huge bottle of water to share. Lots of local families there. Seating is all outside underneath a tent or open air. One of the coolest local restaurants I have been to on an island. I also like finding neat local places like this. Go here! You wont regret it.
