Ches's Fish and Chips in Mount Pearl

Went to mount pearl location and it was just terribly disappointing. Been to other ones and they were great . Cold fries . Greasy not going back

Called topsail road...no one answered after several call attempts. So decided Id go to mount pearl location. Placed my order told it would be 25 min. Showed up at the correct time and was told another 20-25 min. They were clearly really backed up but continued to take orders instead if fulfilling the ones they had. Its been a half hour and Im still waiting. 55 min after I place my order....yet ppl walking off the street and placing an order they are telling them half hr. Never again.

Todat my husband and I went in to grab a slice of pizza and we had the worst service I have ever had in a place!! I most certainly will never go back to that place I think the lady in the front needs some customer service training or to be fired

Food was ok, not what I have come to expect from Chess.Rudest serving staff I have had in a Chess, by far.

Today I decided to give Ches Mt. Pearl one more chance, since my last visit was very dissappointing and after phoning in the order, I still had to wait 15 minutes. I ordered two 2 piece fish and chips and was disgusted with what was on the plate. Two pieces of fried batter, about 5 inches long and 2 inches wide with a small piece of fish in the center smaller than a cod nugget. It was tasteless like it never saw the salt shaker. The clerk was indiffernant and the words please and thank you were not uttered. To think this service only cost me $ 39.08 ( basicly it was for two french fries ). This was their last chance. I will never be going there again. Fool me once............

Wasnt impressed I stopped going too all of ches,s restaurants had 3 piece fish and chips gravy and dressing on the side fish was has I remembered greasy not many fries and only half tub gravy but full tub dressing 28 something not very good but hot anyway all end pieces of fish batter.😢

Poor customer service. I called at 5:30, ordered a single piece of fish and chips, was told my order would be ready in 20 minutes. I showed up to get it, 20 minutes later and continued to wait another 25 minutes in the restaurant for my order. It was not only me who was clearly annoyed. Other people were having issues with their orders and missing items. The whole place was chaotic and very unprofessional. My food wasnt even hot, and it was barely a handful of fries. I would not recommend this Chess at all. Beyond disappointing.

A fan favorite. Less one star just because food can inconsistent depending on the cook. Gravy spills sometimes if you have takeout. Be sure to always check lid is in place properly.

Beyond disappointed with the service I received here this evening. Called from 6:15 to when I walked into the door there at 6:40 and no answer. I always order ahead of time as I know they close at 7 and I hate being that person that walks in last minute. Much to my surprise, when I walked in, the phone was off the hook and sitting on the counter. Obviously they didn’t want more people coming in or calling. Too bad. You close at 7. That means you lock the doors at 7. You take calls and orders until 7!I guess this is my karma for going somewhere other than the kenmount road location. 🙄

I like everything a little extra well cooked and they were happy to accommodate.

Food was good, service was fast. Price is a little higher than what Id expect for a fish and chips place.

Dont know if it was my taste buds, or maybe they really did change something, but the past few years the fish has tasted far saltier, to the point of making it unpleasant. For being a more out of the way smaller restaurant chain, its respectable, the mood of this particular restaurant is cramped and lacking compared to the other ones, just a couple chairs and tables strewn about, and its not in a convenient spot. the fries are okay enough to pardon some of it.

Was frustrating with zero enforcement on person count allowance especially with delivery drivers occupying the space. Restaurant is unsuitable to enter unless you disregard signs.The food is worth 6 stars, though. *chef kiss*

Cant order delivery by phone, was told to use Skip the dishes, or Door Dash, tried using both and their network timeout 3 times for Door Dash, and 2 times for skip the dishes, so Chess how do you get home delivery from you guys, please explain, NL company using out of province delivery system, very disappointed, can believe this, as if it matters to them but I will never go to their restaurant again and well cant order takeout do to poor delivery service

Food was not good fries brunt and fish was to light like it wasnt cooked right!

Chess has gone downhill over the past few years. Its been very hit or miss lately, with the batter being too thick having an almost gooey texture. The fries have been soggy more often than not as well. Though when everything is cooked right, its really good.

I have to give it 4 stars only because there was a hair in my food me the reason why Im giving it 4 would be from their excellent service and reaction to the hair and it was great.

It wasnt as good as I remember it. The restaurant itself is very basic, they even keep their stock out front, so nothing to get excited about. But the fish was disappointing - I would guess it was frozen. Too bad given I had fond memories of this place from years ago.

Quick service. Food was delicious, hot and exactly as ordered. Quiet location and good parking available. I had cod bites, fries, dressing and gravy, all very good!

Store was near and tidy as was the bathroom. Staff was friendly which made the experience that much nicer. And, as per usual, the food was terrific.

I went there for my free birthday meal as i have done at the one i used to go to on a regular basis on freshwater road.I was turned down and told i had to buy a meal to get me what would then be not so free meal... i am a single individual i dont have friends out hear in mt pearl who am i gonna buy a meal for.. they told me i can eat the one i buy and take my birthday meal home..cause i love soggy fries(sarcasm i left the place literally in tears and am never going back to the mt pearl location.

Ive been going to Chess for years and they got the best fish n chips.

Food is great but you have to order via Skip The Dishes if you want delivery and its more expensive (menu pricesthan ordering direct and pick it up. Food is not crispy due to plastic containers they use.Best to dine in or pick up yourself.

I waited 35 mins for the meal and was the only customer in the dining while the skip the dishes came and went. ordered 2 med chip and chips with gravy and the order came to $47.00. The young girl was friendly but way too expensive and way to long of a wait on a Sunday afternoon

It wasnt horrible, but over the last few years, the food has gotten very greasy and super expensive. Definitely still good fish and chips, but for the price, I definitely wont be having it nearly as often.

Always good for a feed of deep fried fish & chips... But dont underestimate their fried chicken either. Its better than the other fried chicken places.

Ordered fish and chips and they were absolutely delicious. The fish was crispy on the outside moist on the inside the fries were excellent and the gravy and dressing was just really really good. Just great friendly service.

Amazing place for fish and chips! I ordered the 2 piece dinner but was WAY too much food. Next day I only ordered the 1 piece dinner and it was perfect!!

Small location with limited seating, just a couple of tables and some bar seating. Food is same delivery and taste as all other locations

Good service and good food..Friendly staff. Great fish and chips. When there you must try a delicious surprise find- Fried Dough. One star less for not great seafood chowder in comparison to chafes landing in Petty Harbour.

One of the better ches locations unfortunately they dont have cod tongues there.

Some of the best batter fried fish to be found. Good variety on the menu but I only go for the fish. Nice portions for the price and the staff is very friendly

The worst Chess location in the city. Unfriendly staff, they all seem depressed, and the food is always sub-par at best. If you really want Chess, please do yourself a favour and go somewhere else.

very bland and over priced... gravy has no flavor taste like thick water.

Over priced. Staff seem unhappy and are short when talking to customers. Taste is not there compaired to similar take outs in the St. Johns area. I live in Mount Pearl but travel to Scampers near the Avalon Mall for these reasons.
