Amazing place cant wait to go back
Beautiful grounds, wonderful people, amazing authentic crafts, wealth of history. My kids have always loved the village as much as we do. Its like walking back in time.
One place I will always take my family!!! I respect everything they do! We are proud people and I believe the Cherokee heritage center shows that. Great people, fun place, awesome gift shop!
Great place to learn about a part of my history. Everyone was so friendly, and were happy to answer questions.
Fine museum with weird angry vibe from locals working there. Got lectured when I touch something. Felt like I was being barely tolerated the minute I walked in. Google is more friendly and cheaper.
Still worth walking around even tho its closed....
Enjoyed your shop. My wife told me I could have gotten a discount if I told you I was native. Great stuff and knowledgeable staff.
Beautiful peaceful place, only regrets the center wasnt open to enjoy because of cov19, will return next year
I visited a number of times and, most importantly, worked on community projects with the modern day elders of this sovereign nation. I was a town planner for an incorporated place within the nation. Few have this opportunity so I constantly point to the realities of the times. The Heritage Center at Park Hill is simply amazing.
I may be giving it a lower score than it deserves, because the day I went there, it was very hot, my back hurt more than it usually does (because I was on the wrong pain pills at the time), AND I had an upset stomach to boot! I couldnt even enjoy the air conditioned part, because my stomach hurt! Being as it was a very hot day, I felt sorry for the guides, having to wear barely there loincloths, I suppose like the old timey Indians did. Of course, seeing as it WAS a very hot day, they were probably cooler. They probably cover up better when the weathers cooler. I would really rather go there again on a cooler day, and think I could enjoy it a lot better. It seems like they had genuine replicas of old Indian housing and activities, a Trail of Tears exhibit and an early "town" called Adams Corner. But I wasnt feeling well enough to enjoy it properly.
Our guide was extremely knowledgeable. We are pm a group tour and we all enjoyed it. Trail of tears exhibit is heart wrenching. Overall great experience.
Very informative and unique experience that most of us are not taught in school. The tragedy that is the Trail of Tears is explained in detail and in neutral terms. The exhibit honors the sacrifice of the native Americans and gives a perspective that many Americans are ignorant to.I would highly recommend anyone interested in history to visit!
I love the museum and grounds. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Great to take your family and enjoy the outdoors. Always fun events and activities. I loved my time there and love when I get to go back.
This place is amazing! They have a guided tour of a 1700s replica Cherokee Village and our guide was very knowledgeable. There was an expert arrowhead maker there and he demonstrated how to use different natural tools to make arrowheads. There is also a replica 1800s village behind the Center that you can go through on your own. They had a Native American Baseball Players display inside before you get to The Trail of Tears and both displays were wonderful! The grounds were beautiful and there are picnic tables and benches everywhere and if you are a smoker, there are plenty of smokers poles. I love this place and cant wait to go back when I have more time!
I really enjoyed the exterior village tour!! It was fascinating getting to see everything and that its real structures not cheesy replicas. I didnt get quite the same experience at rural village. A lot of the speakers were down so we couldnt learn about them and the store was bolted shut with no sign. As this is not guided. Without the speakers you were left feeling a little lacking. Also, a lot of the speakers were out in the Trail of Tears exhibit. The place is great I just suggest fixing those so your guests can get the full experience. Also, its a little confusing where to go to buy tickets and such. There is someone at a desk when you walk in but everytime I started to walk over to ask where to go they kept walking off. As you need tickets for the guided portions I would make it more clear where to go.
This is my first year experiencing the Cherokee nation Powwow.. My grandmother told me if I ever had the chance I needed to take it..so yes I did.. and it was above and beyond my expectations.. we made it to the parade in the AM and then headed over for all the activities and crafts and art show during the day.in the evening began the grand entry and dancing ,singing and drumming..This is definitely something we should all experience if u enjoy culture.. I will be coming back next year.. if u like my post please hit the " like" . Thank you
This is a place where you can be educated on the past. Very good information. I love coming here.
The exhibits were well though out and informative. The guide knew his subject and presented it in an interesting manner. He was able to demonstrate native everyday skills. I recommend a visit.
We had the best time. We have always wanted to go. Took the tour of the village and the staff was so amazing. Our tour guide was beautiful and so knowledgeable. The older Native American gentleman who was make flint rock knives and arrow heads was an American treasure. I loved seeing the young people who worked there being emerged in there culture. They put on a small game for us. I was so impressed with the staff in the shop also. Me and my mom looked up her lineage and the lady was so nice. This is one of the best vacation places I have ever been to. The history here is something I will never forget. Thank you Cherokee Heritage Center for existing.
Great place to see history of indigenous cultures of USA!
My tour guide, Bill, was amazing. We got to play stick ball in their village and it was so much fun. We also got to go to Adams corner that showed what some houses would look like in the 1800s. All the houses were interactive. The staff was very kind.
Ive been planning a trip here for almost a year. I knew I was coming to Oklahoma and this is one of the spots I wanted to see we drove a couple hours in the rain mostly and around flooded areas. To come here it was very interesting very enlightening if you get a chance please go and do the tour read all the plaques great information that everyone needs to know.
Wonderful staff and very knowledgeable. Art, heritage, genealogy library, and Trail of Tears exhibit.
Our children had such a great time. We just left your beautiful place and they are still excited. Stickball in the rain is a must for everyone! Wado to all of the wonderful people who made this day a fun and exciting learning experience.
The Cherokee people should be very proud of this Heritage Center. It was greatly informational, very emtional (Trail of Tearsand have a great Art Section. If you are in the Northeast part of Oklahoma please dont miss this attraction. You will enjoy it and will gain more knowledge about the Cherokee people.
Awesome is putting it mildly. The tour was very informative and answered all questions we asked about the Cherokee Nation. I would recommend this tour for all ages. The Museum is located in the park and is well organized and is worth the time.
Wonderful facility. Staff were great and knowledgeable. Fabulous gifts to take home. I am a better person for making this trip from North Carolina to Oklahoma.
sSuch a Beautiful place filled with so Natural Beauty and chichaswa culture... A photographers delight.
A great monument to the native American people and the strife they faced during the trail of tears. There is a reenactment village and actual log cabin from the early 1900s great place for children and field trips.
This place is amazing. I went to this with my step daughter on her field trip. I was how ever very disappointed in all the schools that attended. They left trash all over the place. Not even the adults bothered to pick up after the kids. I was so ashamed. The natives bring you into there home/place of business to teach you. To help you learn about the native life style an ways of life. A life I personally would rather go back to. What was given in return. Disrespect! I thank the heritage for helping teach other an myself about my ancestors. I think its a beautiful full place an very peaceful feeling vibe on the grounds. Thank you again for having everyone. I apologise for the schools behavior.
A must see for anyone! We enjoyed the traveling Will Rogers exhibit. The trail of tears museum is an emotional experience with information, hands on and immersive aspects that are amazing. We also toured the 1710 village lead by Steve. He was a wonderful guide. Funny, personable and open to questions. We went on the self guided tour of the village behind the museum as well. Beautiful items in the gift shop. Only disappointment was there is a passport ticket option available. It allows you to see all the area sites for one price. The cashier who helped us purchase tickets was not very friendly and this was not mentioned until we checked out afterwards. The female employee who checked us out was very friendly and answered questions. Would love to come back and see all the sites someday.
The art museum and curios are incredible. Admission fee charged. The history of the trail of tears rips your heart. The grounds are incredible. We always try to buy something authentic and each museum and we did so
Very interesting and worth driving to visit. Much good information to me in the center. Plan on spending some time touring and viewing exhibits. Kid friendly.
This place is great as a group of 20 something year old college students, I was pleasantly surprised when such an in-depth and educational but yet extremely fun tour was presented. The staff weird shoes that are native spirit and kept E entertainment going and they were very Interactive the gift shop was a definite plus as well handmade Oklahoman items.
This was an excellent place to visit. It had an art exhibit that was wonderful. An excellent gift shop with Native American made products, clean restrooms and great staff.
The Trail of Tears exhibit is amazing. We loved our visit and the opportunity to buy a flute made by Tommy Wildcat. The grounds are gorgeous. Highly recommend a visit.
You want to see this. An authentic village set up on a couple of acres which involves walking. They do offer one golf cart to help anyone with mobility issues. The guides are on authentic regalia which adds to the experience. Very informative, fun, casual and your allowed to go inside the summer and winter houses to see how families lived together and learn how everyone had a job no matter how old. Be sure to go inside the Heritage Center to experience an awesome display depicting the disparity and struggles along the Trail of Tears. You too will feel the pain and heartbreak experienced by a culture of people that went through a horrible ordeal and atrocity. I had tears at the end. Dont miss this site.
This beautiful museum and cultural center details both the ancient and contemporary history of the Cherokee people. The opportunity to experience their traditional living spaces and cultural practices was fascinating, and the Trail of Tears exhibit is humbling and heartbreaking.
I only wish we had more time to explore this fascinating space and learn more about the history. I will be back!
Excellent well worth the time to visit. Very educational but fun at the same time. Really enjoyed the 1700s village, our guide was knowledgeable and helpful.Plan on a day or two if you want to see everything as some of the museums are scatered around town.
I followed the Trail of Tears from New Echota, Georgia to here with my two young grandsons and it was an amazing journey! The cultural center was fantastic! We got the passport and visited several historical sites and plan to go back one day for the rest. Even though my boys are five and six they got a good feel for the history and made a real connection to part of our heritage. I highly recommend the trip to anyone with an interest in Native American history or heritage.
The museum and living village exhibits are wonderful, but its the people that deepened my experience 100-fold. They are open and keen to share, passionate and give you the time and information necessary to understand the Cherokee story. Very touching visit. Came thinking Id spend and hour or two and passed the whole day there. Wado!
Great place to learn about Cherokee history. Museum is excellent and souvenirs offered are priced at affordable range. Knowledgeable guides and employees add to a nicin experience. Excellent tour of restructured village and on site Craftsmen creating tools.
This museum is a must see. Excellent displays explaining all the Indian Removals not just the Cherokee. Excellent archives. Large bookshop with other souvenirs. There is also an outdoor village with tour. You could easily spend several hours if you are interested in this period of history.
The wonderfully helpful volunteers at the Cherokee Heritage Center are the icing on the cake! I visited to do some genealogy research over spring break and I was so impressed by my experience! The center is nestled in a picturesque nature lovers dream setting; I saw a doe stop to have an afternoon snack about 10 feet from the window I sat in front of in front of! Its a welcome removal from the concrete jungle and gridlock traffic of the city; tge serene backdrop almost demands your absolute attention! Probably the longest stretch of time I have gone all year without looking at my cell or checking an email! Did I mention how pleasant and helpful the volunteers are! A+++!! I didnt get a chance to visit the museum during my time there as it was closed, but I fully intend to load up the kiddos and make the trip back this summer to do so!!
Although it was cold, the tour of the Ancient Village was not rushed and questions were answered honestly.
Friendly staff, great place for researching Cherokee history and genealogy.
Lots to look at outside and in. Plenty to learn from and enough for kids to enjoy.
VERY surreal and well done visuals and artifacts. We came here during a mission trip in Vian, and we absolutely loved it! The game with the ball and the enormous pole was fun. When we were in the big ceremonial model of the Cherokee structure, it starting thunder storming so we were stuck inside of there for so long and it felt like a sauna but it was a lot of fun and a really good story. Everything is very neat and enlightening! Worth seeing!
My daughter and I recently visited the Center and were treated so graciously by a highly knowledgeable and caring staff. We received an enormous amount of help with our genealogy research from a true expert in the field. Thank you, Jerry. Cant wait to visit again. The museum is so informative and educational with a great gift shop. The staff is really outstanding.
