Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding in Huilong
Description
Privilege
Wow! What an amazing experience. This review was a long time coming, but nonetheless the memories are so clear. Absolute highlight of my trip to Chengdu and these pandas are just lovable. The research centre looks after them and takes their well-being extremely seriously. Pandas are funny, clumsy but very smart animals too. If you ever get an opportunity to visit, please do so. It’s a lifetime memory
MoreI truly fell in love with this Research Center. It is huge, but the bears are so cute. :-)Make sure that you bring your running shoes!!
MoreThe centre is certainly worth a visit as it is the easiest way to see a panda up close - and all ages of panda. The centre is a bit of a mix between panda theme park / zoo and breeding centre - it wasnt clear how many of the panda bred here are released in the wild? Hopefully, none of the ones we saw as they were far to familiar with people for release. The pandas themselves were classic cute and cuddly, either playing with each other, sleeping or eating - all were classic photo opportunities. Also kept at the centre are Red panda, presumably part of a breeding program too? You can get really close to both species. Certainly is a must visit, but there are also questions about how much it contributes to wild giant panda or red panda conservation in the field.
MoreVisited way back in 2010, and the memories stay with you. An iconic place to visit that I would highly recommend. If your in the area, its definitely worth checking out!
MoreOutside from the hustle bustle of one of amazing capitals of provinces of China, located in Chengdu Sichuan, Its one thing you dont wanna miss while visiting the city.It amazing how the authorities has made a lab and a natural habitat next to each other. Even its half man made but still its amazing. Watching pandas doing their stuff is so funny.Book a full day for this visit if you wanna enjoy it in real. Subway goes their and then a free bus will take you to Museum/forest/zoo. Its vast area so take your time and water bottle with you. Try to schedule it on non cloudy day as pandas dont like cool or cold weather so they will be in just in their shelter instead of their habitats. I visited in 2017 or 2017, Im sorry I forgot the ticket but I guess it was around 200rmb, but again Im not sure about ticket price.
MoreIf you are in Chengdu - Panda Park is a must for visit. It is a wonderful experience - the park is big enough and the animals live there like in the wild. In addition to the normal pandas, the less popular red pandas can also be seen there. Pandas are very adorable but really lazy - all they do is chew bamboo or sleep.
MoreIt was an amazing experience, loved it! The pandas, the place, everything in this place was fun! Totally recommend!
MoreTravel from Chengdu East Station, very convenient.Arrive at noon, most pandas are asleep. But still pleasent to see they scratching themselves while sleeping. Very cute. According to some local guide, Pandas are more active from 7 to 9 am.
MoreTruly a once in a lifetime experience. We took a shuttle from the subway, which was included in the ¥55 entrance ticket bought at the shuttle station. The shuttle station can be found just outside Panda avenue subway station (line 3), the first shuttle leaves at 7:50. So we arrived at the Panda base at around 8:10Because we arrived before most people we didn’t have to queue once or stand in line to see any of the pandas, the later it got though the busier the base got so we would recommend going to see the cubs at the two nurseries first. We saw around 40 pandas that day including 11 cubs. Also plan your trip in the cooler months because pandas are kept indoors when temperatures are high.
MoreI visited the panda base in Jan 2019. You will not be disappointed because you will a lot of Giant pandas here. However maybe I did not go at the right time, they are very sleepy and not active. They have other animals as well such as a black swan. They have a restaurant in the base and I remember that is good.
MoreLove this panda zoo. Everything is cute and the scenery is beautiful. It’s tidy and cool. Be careful of mobile tiny train around the zoo. Oh I visited here on January, 2020.
More(Visited August 2017)Had the opportunity to see baby pandas days old in incubators! Many babies were playing with each other in different areas. Was excited to have seen them as active as they were. The Red Pandas are the cutest! A couple were out and about walking their “paths” soaking up the sun. Look like little kudamundies.Nice concession areas for a quick break and refreshments.Nice place for families but walking is a lot so wear your comfy shoe and stroller a good idea for littles ones.Only negative would be the amount your walking and through very steep hills at times.
MoreA great place, open air and of course the Pandas are cute....best thing if youre 60 and over get in for free!! The lake is beautiful and the butterfly collection are awesome.
MoreDate: 04/04/2017There were so many people but I was still able to observe the pandas closely. The experience was fun. Those pandas are just darn cute! If the weather were brighter it would be much better.
MoreIts one of places which you need to see when you are in Chengdu. Its good to be there during feeding time (between 9 and 11 in the morning). Pandas come out and dont hide behind trees ;It takes about 2-5 hours to walk around.
MoreGiant Panda base. Very cute and fantastic posture of this peaceful creatures. I didnt know that Panda likes to sleep on a tree until I see them hanging their huge bodies at a trees branches. Curious how long does it take to climb up to those branches.
MoreIf you love Pandas, this is the place to see them up close. They are so adorable but really lazy. All they do is chew on bamboos, sleep and poop, lol. The park is quite walk-able so you do not need to pay and get the shuttle ride which has long lines and realistically not needed. Cost of park was very reasonable, sometime like $10usd. Unfortunately, there was no birthing of Pandas at the time we where there as it would of been very cool to see.
MoreBasically the reason why you need to visit Chengdu, everything else is incidental. This park is highly accessible, has multiple walking routes and buses. Other than the giant panda it also keeps several specimens of the red panda. I went there two days during my trip. I should have gone more often. You can just watch them throughout the day eating bamboo, eating more bamboo and sleeping. Love the panda life. Hope they would have been in the wild as well.
MoreVery very very nice place to see Panda !I really appreciated this visite, even with the high and heavy temperature and humidity...We arrived very early the Friday, but at 9am, the park was already full of people ! Totally amazing !Even that, Panda were so cute and we wanted to hug them :)Its a must see place if you are around Chengdu, take time to go there !
MoreLots of pandas to see in different environments.Wide walkways or paths, surrounded by lush vegetation. You can spend quite a few hours here. There’s a nice restaurant/coffee shop and several self serve machines around the park that sell drinks, chips etc.The baby panda nursery has staff managing people walking past the windows for a quick look. Great idea for adults and children alike so they don’t get pushed in the crowds.Next door to the older baby panda inside viewing cage is an open air baby area with swing and grass. Wait here at the fence, as the babies are bought from the cages one by one and you’ll be in front when they arrive.Use the disabled toilet rooms, as they have heated seats, paper, soap and are lovely and clean.
MoreI want to visit here again! So many cute pandas! But also a lot of visitors.. I visited here twice during this trip, both in the morning and saw different activities. Some are very active playing and eating. It seems adult ones are more interested in sleeping. They got a twin new born baby panda now on display. Better to take the bus to the top of the hill and then head back if your time/fitness is limited.
MoreI came here with my friends, and the giant pandas are so cute. besides we saw red pandas the are cute too. Here are some tips for you :→ 1. choose a COOL day. pandas dont like hot weather, they will stay at the panda room when its too hot and you wont see any panda. If you go there in summer ,earlier is better.the zoo opening time is 8:00 am.→ 2. AVOID WEEKEND AND CHINESE FESTIVAL!you must remenber this. me and my friends visited On August 10 which is a weekend day.So we met thousands of people.we were pushed by the wave of people all the way.→ 3. IF YOURE HAVING TROUBLE. just ask young people for help.Chinese are friendly and well educated .....and a lit bit of shy.if theyre able to help, they will help you. Leave your g map aside and use local map app, because g maps location is wrong in china.Have a good day!
MoreVisiting Chengdu (Chinawithout coming here would really be a shame! No matter what size and age; the "bear cats" (translation of Chinese Word for pandais simple adorable! Its a long drive from Chengdu (2,5-3 h), but it is worth it! Make sure to be here early to beat the MANY visitors!!(The park is easily accessible, and has lots of benches and rest rooms.)Recommended!
MoreA truly great location to visit Chinas famous Pandas. I managed to see plenty of adult and child giant pandas as well as red pandas. I went really early so it was a very comfortable trip. The venue is kept super clean and is a great place to walk around with all the greenery surrounding you.
MoreJust wonderful to see so many Giant Pandas. They are in large enclosures with plenty of bamboo to eat. There is also a successful breeding program.
MoreIts the best ever place to see the panda in your dreams! Very close to the Chengdu city center. Easy to reach. By name itself, is the "Panda base". So expect a huge crowd during holidays. Better if you can go in the morning when pandas are more active. 8 hours are enough for the whole visit according to my experience.
MoreIts a great place to see panda of China. Better to go on weekdays as it is very crowded on weekend. The gact that it is located not too far fron the city is a plus for me. Definetely worth a visit when youre in Chengdu China
MorePlease go as early as possible as it get very crowded after 830am (I reached at 8am but it got very crowded slightly after that). The traffic arrangement could have been better, especially at the panda nursery area. You would be able to see quite many pandas here. To me, its a been there done that trip if you are in Chengdu. Do bring raincoat/umbrella if its raining as most visiting area are outdoor (or you can get a raincoat at 10yuan illegally sold near the entrance)
MoreIt was great to see the pandas, but I had to take off a point for the intense crowds and all of the maps with a "you are here" dot rubbed off, so it was really easy to get lost. We didnt get any maps when we bought our tickets but I had printed one out at home before we came which helped a little
MoreLiterally this is best place in the WORLD to see pandas. They have hundreds. And pandas are native to this area in Sichuan. I would say that its A MUST SEE. Not only is it a marvel to conservationism, but I would argue that its one of the best (and cutest!Prides of China. It was very easy to get there by Subway system. After arriving at Panda Avenue, we took a bus there which was about a 7 minute drive. DEFINITELY would recommend coming early. As early as possible. Around 10~12 crowds of people show up and if its hot outside the pandas will be inside and literally everyone and their children will push against you to take a picture, especially if the pandas are awake and moving. To see the newborns expect a line, no matter how early. But the babies are literally the most precious and adorable things on the planet!!!!!! I thought that it was very worth it, and an amazing experience. Ive also been told that sometimes the red pandas walk around outside of their habitats. They do have tour guides who speak English, if you want. They have tall bamboo coverings along the paths to help shade the guests. Sometimes can be a bit of a walk, but they have mini buses to help transport people if youre willing to wait for one. But overall 10/10 would go again!
MoreOnly one tip. Come early, like at 7:00AM to line up and go in to begin seeing the pandas. Later than that and all youll be seeing is people. That being said, I saw pandas. Being really cute and stuff. It was great.
MoreOne panda , two panda , three ... May they continue mate , so we can enjoy the cute species for as long as it takes ! It is so admirable that people have come together to recreate the natural habitat , or as much of the natural habitat of this species as possible . We should consider Giant Pandass typically live in higher altitude and at much lower temperature levels , so maybe the lack of those conditions inbalances them pandas physiologically. It was fortunate to know that some atmosphere circumstances have changed the geo-positioning of their original habitat ... But maybe nothing is lost forever , there is always paradise to come .
MoreThis is a must see in any trip to Chengdu highly recommend it. The Pandas are just great. Make sure to show up at opening because its when the Pandas are fed and they are more lively.
MoreBest place to see pandas in their natural habitat! Busy duting tourist season, but worth a visit. Well managed and clean environment. Cool getaway from the humid city in summers.
MoreIt has a lot of Pandas and Red Pandas - what else do you have to know? ;)Its a really nice park and quite well to reach. You should go very early in the morning since it will be crowded during late morning hours and you get a chance at seeing young/baby pandas uo close when there arent too many people. You can buy tickets online if you have the means or use the self service ticket machines on the right side of the entrance - they are in english too.Must see in Chengdu!
MoreAmazing experience. Never saw pandas before and here there is a lot of them in nice environment. I would advise you to come early to see pandas more active as they are sleeping a lot through the day.
MoreThe cuteness of these adorable pandas cannot be explained in words. They are the true teddy bears. The research center is huge and very nicely maintained for visitors. One can find many pandas here for sure. Really enjoyed my time there.
MoreHighly recommend for getting to meet many lovely pandas! A must go place in chengdu. There are over 100 pandas! Among all also have other animals. But watch out for peak seasons when you need to queue for over 2 hrs to get in. You can purchase e tickets in advance via app.
MoreOne of the best ways to spend the day watching these incredibly cute things going about their daily life. Its worth going in the morning as this is when most feeding seems to occur which means that the pandas, who are normally incredibly lazy and sleep most of the time, actually move around and eat. This place is mostly for giant panda but also includes a number of red panda which are also very cute. Is easy to reach by taking the metro to the Panda avenue stop then jumping on one of the many buses which are waiting there.
MoreMake sure that you show up early because last time chance to see the pandas at 11:00 am after that usually is cold (during winterand the pandas wants to go inside, make sure that you dont have flash in your cameras, they dont like it.If you try to save some money buy the souvenir outside, and make sure that you wear something related to panda.Example a medium panda toy outside 15 yens inside 70 same pandaPanda ears for girls outside 10 yens inside 25Chengdu is a city with lot of small stores selling 🐼 things, keychains, clothes, magnents, super cheap, kuan alley is a good option to buy and dont forget to bargain
MoreI arrived at 1pm on a Tuesday. The place was not as crowded as expected.*Tram Services*There is a tram service provided which cost 10RMB. Please note that it is a 2 way trip. The ride does not stop at every point. It just drops you to the panda enclosure and picks you up from there. You also wont get to see pandas along the tram ride unlike the Singapore Zoo/ Night Safari.* How long to stay*I stayed there for 2.5hs after takig the tram ride. The directions along the park were abit scarce so we actually made a big round and returned to the same location where the big pandas were. All the walking made us very tired so we didnt have much energy to explore the rest of the place.I would suggest putting my effort planning the trip and looking carefully at the signs for direction.* Summary *It is definitely worth a visit. This is the must visit place of Chengdu. You cant say you have been to Chengdu unless you have been here. It is really worth it because you get to see ALOT of pandas and all types of sizes (think of Kungfu panda 3 where it is a Panda Village). Be prepared to walk alot so bring comfy shoes. Souvenir shops and cafes are available for light shopping.
MoreA facility where great work is done to protect the pandas. Overall, the park has quite a number of enclosures but you will need a good zoom lens to get proper shots. Some stores beside the swan lake offer quick snacks for an affordable price.
MoreIf you are in Chengdu dont miss this place, it is worth visiting. It is a combo of Panda zoo and research centre. Here you can see Pandas of every size, from new born to fully grown Giant Pandas.Unfortunately when I visited the Red Pandas area was closed for visitors, because most of them were pregnant and their safety was important.
MoreThe best way to spend your day! We came there at 7:30 by taxi (40 rmb from the center of chengduand were almost alone with the pandas. The park is huge so it takes time to find them at first, but its also beautiful and peaceful to walk around it and have a rest. Also, in the morning they are still in small rooms and not outside which makes it easier to see them. We realized it only later in the day but lots of the pandas are in the moonlight delivery house area, and theyre still sub-adults so theyre more active then the sleepy adult pandas.
MoreThis vast area of a research base is packed full with visitors even in rainy weather. The best way to get in with few queuing hassles is with a tour. We had to wait for our rides in a small cart for about 30 minutes. The pandas are available for viewing outdoors, mostly. So many visitors will vie for spots to get pictures or videos. The indoor area can get smelly. We were rushed through the nursery, so you wont be satisfied looking at the panda cubs.
MoreA panda conservation facility which allow public viewing of various ages of pandas. Lots of tourists at least on the weekends. The park is well kept filled with greenery, pavements and bamboo trees. There are also scientific exhibition and musuem related to.conservation of pandas. Very educational place indeed. In addition, there are post office and souvenir shops. No restaurant on the facility though.
MoreTake subway to Panda Ave. Station on line 3. By the ticket and take the free shuttle bus to the park, it takes about 5-10 minutes. The ticket is RMB $58, which is a little expensive. The stuff is very kindly and willing to help. If you cant find the pandas, tell the stuff around you and theyll tell you where the pandas are or theyll even take the bamboo to feed the pandas; youll see the lovely panda in front of you!
MoreKung Fu "naughty" PandasChengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding located around 10 kms from the city is one of the main attractions of Chengdu. The place is quite near to the city however there is no metro access and the bus route is quite complicated. It took us around half hour and RMB 50/- by the taxi to reach the research center. The park or research center spans 100 acres and is basically inside a forest with bamboo trees all around given the fact that Pandas only eat bamboos. We reached just in time to find ourselves making our way through the park easily with no rush and crowd. They were just adorable to watch as they started eating their breakfast without caring much about the big crowd gazing at them from a distance. Their lifestyle feels so carefree in just the way they eat some sitting down and some lying down and doesn’t care much else happening around them. You can just stand there and look at them all dayApart from Giant Panda they also include the Red Panda and some other endangered bird species. The park was really well maintained and was a treat to visit and can probably be the best spot to visit in Chengdu and can be labeled a must see in Chengdu.
MoreThis, of course, is a must visit in Chengdu. The pandas are just incredibly fun to watch, big, cub and babies! The whole area actually has lots of greens, including many bamboo trees, great place to walk around and spend a whole day!
MoreGreat place to visit in Chengdu. The park is well maintained, clean and organized.I suggest visiting in the morning (arrive at 8:30and paying the extra ≈5¥ for the transport buses inside the park. They take you to the furthest corner and save you a 30 minute walk. The main downside is, that it is often very crowded.Definitely worth the fee of 58¥.
