Landscaped gardens on the site of an ancient citadel featuring Roman ruins & royal tombstones.
Historical impressive building and a nice overview over the sea
Amazing castle and view
A wonderful piece of art, one of the most visited sites in Rabat, a must see for every traveller visiting the capital, you can also enjoy a picnic around chella with the family, a great history behind the walls ❤️Chellah is love!
Under reconstruction but still a gorgeous place even from the inside. Worth taking a walk around the site.
It is now closed as they are rebuilding the whole place but even from the outside it looks amazing. We hired bikes in the Medina and had a ride there. Highly recommended
You can only walk along the ancient walls and cannot go in by yourself. You may tip a guide to take you in but it’s not worth it. The scenery from hill is beautiful though.
Even tho it says on google that it is open when we got there they told us that it had been shut for two years for refurbishments. There is a path along the ruins walls that is quite nice and you can go up the hill to see the view from there.
I highly recommend you visit , its a nice place to relax and walk a bit, some great roman history is found there ,do the tour yourself .This is a beautiful old Roman city that is worth visiting if youre in Rabat. I loved seeing the nesting storks as well.Remarkable medieval fortress ruins with fantastic well preserved garden. There are so many hidden corners to explore by watching the storks on top of the trees, towers and walls.
Oh yeah very nice place.no comment just come and enjoyrself
An interesting and historical garden with roman and arabic ruins right inthe center of Rabat makes this place definately worth visiting. Its very peaceful and relaxing to come here and be around so much history.
At the exiting from Rabat to the north, en route to Chefchaouen, is worth stopping on the way at La Forum and Le Mausolé DAbu Al-Hassan, or by the other name Chellah. The place is a historical site from the Roman period. On a warm day not so pleasant there but overall the place is lovely. The stork nests in April were very beautiful with chicks in each nest, a spectacular sight
A historic site that is absolutely worth a visit. With 1000+ years of history, the ability to wander around -- and on -- ruins dating back to the Romans makes this an exceptional experience. Plus, its a beautiful place with tons of flora and fauna -- including 75+ white stork nests. A must visit in Rabat.
Suuuuper amazing sight to see, even if it’s not too warm out. Make sure you get there before they close!!
It’s a unesco site and an interesting place to visit to see the ruins from the Europeans. Also lots of birds to see :)
One of the places to visit in Rabat. I will not go into what it is as everybody can check through Wikipedia. Two different times and civilizations with lots of plants and 75 birds thrown into it.Very nice. You dont need a guide
Nice place to visit
At the crossroads of the ancient Roman, Berber and Arab civilizations. A peaceful place full of gardens, with 2500 years of history.Recommend for everyone wants to know the history of Morocco.
I highly recommend you visit first thing on a Sunday morning in winter when sunrise is late. Arrive just before 8:30 and be the first to enjoy the ruins as the sun appears over the nearby hill and then take note of the dozens of white storks youll see perched on various buildings, among the ruins, and in trees.I had the entire place to myself for an hour and it was one of the most sedate and tranquil experiences anywhere in Morocco.
Some great Roman history is found here. Do the tour yourself, just brush up on its history before you go.
Chellah is one of the older places you can visit in Morocco.. it surely illustrates plenty of Moroccos customs and culture
Loved loved this place. 100% worth the pit stop and entrance fee. Nice like Roman ruins with a beautiful backdrop. Tons of birds and beautiful plants through the park. This is a huge stage near the entrance where they host music festivals and events. Make sure to walk all the way around the park! Cheers :)
A Roman city wrapped inside a moorish fortified city - if you are a history buff there is nothing better. There is an option to take a guided tour and some locals that offer; I would not bother and go exploring and climb the ruins. Not to be missed.
Beautiful place.. Be careful of biting insects, use protector (offspray.
A historical place built in 1316... Contain a variety of stuff. Public bath, Mosque, and a lot of cool stuff. Recommand it.
70 DH for an ancient stronghold influenced by Romans and the following empires. Its imposing the door and the entrance. In 2 hours you can visit it upside down
70dh for foreigners is way too much money to watch an uncared for pile of rocks. For half the price you can go to the Modern Art Museum, which is a way better option. If you’re Moroccan you pay 10dh.
One of my favorite places in Rabat. It is quite far from the city center. But I think it is worth it going there to scape from the noise and the crowd of the touristic area.
Its very nice to spend a morning in. 10dh for locals and 70dh for strangers. They renovated the outside so it looks more presentable.
Its interesting and just barely worth the entrance fee, but the best part is all the storks nested around the ruins
My favorite site in Rabat. Its really worth a visit. Full of culture and living style of the ancient people.
As a traveler, I just couldnt miss this historic site. Yes, it was relatively pricey (70 Dhmsand not as large as thought. However, it was sure beautiful, interesting, and the cranes and abundance of cats made the experience for me. Would I go again? Nah, once was enough.
It’s an amazing quiet place. If you visit Rabat, you should walk around. You can meet storks. More than 3000 years of story.I love it.
Extensive ruins that you visit that are inhabited by dozens of storks and their huge nest during the fall and winter. The Chellah ruins are a medieval fortified Muslim necropolis in the coastal city of Rabat in Morocco. It will take about 1 to 2 hours to visit.
Storks and cats everywhere! Relaxing stroll with a wonderful view and some ruins to explore. Its quite a big place, so well worth the money.
Best tourist site in Rabat if you want to see green trees and ancient ruins. Great for photographers. Wasnt busy when we were there in December. I would try to go right when it opens so you can see it without a crowd. The plants and orange trees smell great, its similar to a rainforest
This place used To be so trashed growing up . Although it has a lot of history in it and its beautiful to see. I went there after 15 years and they upgraded it and made it really nice . The entry for locals is very affordable and its really clean with plenty of security. On a sunny day dont hesitate to go there for fresh air and nice views .
Great piece of history to discover, a must see when in Rabat. The storks nesting around the spot is also a unique experience.
Great place to visit. For a small fee you will enter large area hidden behind massive walls (which are a bit too much renovated, they look too contemporary). There are gardens, ancient ruins (you can see remnants of roman city with parts rebuilt i.e. to a mosqueand a lots of storks! No meal options here, but there is a toilet in upper part. Parking available. It is also possible to walk here from Rabat city center.
Entrance fee of 70 for non Moroccan citizens. No discount for students.it is nice to see the ruins from the roman periode.Avoid going in high sun times
Breathtaking, very nice for a chilling place packed with great history. You can access for Dhs30 (i thinkwhich is very cheap!
Beautiful kasbah historic Roman and morrocan ruins. A music festival being held this week many famous local and international talent. Must see the storks nests and gardens
Fee entrance 10 dh for an adult and it worths the money. You can find there lots of ruins and places with cats and storks that have nested there. The place is surrounded by a small garden.
Interesting place to visit, not a lot to see.but the history is interesting. U can hire a guide if u really want to dig deep.
Definitely worth paying a visit, as in all Maroko here aswell price is 10dh. Garden here is beautifuly green, and have a lot of different plants. Ruins are ok, but everything is in French so the signs are useless for not French speaking people. Also u must know that parking is for pay extra although I doubt that is necessary, but guy was running after me, so I didnt have choice.
Beautiful!!! Please take a taxi though. My friend and I walked and it took FOREVER. And the taxi ride back only cost 20 dirham (2€ more or less). It’s a wonderful compound where you can see lots of storks nests and the ruins are awesome.
It was like stepping back in time, its an amazing place to visit
Amazing! A piece of Moroccan history with a splendid garden, is a mix about a lot of cultures type! Moreover is full of friendly cats and elegant storks. The staff of the park is very friendly and try to help you to understand the history of the place. Moreover in the next future the tourists will can walk on the walls of the castle.
Loved this place. Full of history.
visit the ruins to see how they merge with nature. great landscape and the birds traveling through Morocco in springtime is wonderful
The Chellah: Ruins with A Bygone but not Forgotten PastThe Chellah is s a medieval fortified Muslim necropolis located in the metro area of Rabat, Morocco. You would notice three sites within one, the wall around it, a garden and a sanctuary. The walls and gate are old and have been repaired often. They do provide a testimony the walls play in ancient [protection of cities. The Garden is full of colors and on a bright day it does shine through. From the garden you can see the river and a valley full of green. Sit anywhere and breathe Peace from the sounds of water running throughout the Garden. The sanctuary as the whole venue has a long history.Under the Phoenicians it was a trading post. The Romans later built their own city, Sala Colonia, very near the same site. Sala continued to exist as a town of the Christianized Berbers. In fact, Sala was the center of Christianity from the 2nd Century. It was mostly in ruins when the Muslim Arabs arrived in the 7th century. They build two mosques. There is a minaret standing. One can see just remains of the mosques. Indeed, the Lisbon earthquake damaged many of the remaining structures in Chellah. However there are a couple burials of Sultans and nearby there is a pool full of eels. The eels love eggs as I found out when feeding them.It is quite beautiful site and worth your time to explore. You might be able to see a little old lady that lives there and feed the many cats around. She calls them and they do come. The most amazing site is the huge birds, storks in the area. They nest on top of the trees and also structures – Good for photos!!It cost about 10 DH to enter. And you should wear good walking shoes...walk...walk and truly look around you! Yes, you are in Africa!
