1810 temple built by an ancestral clan featuring ornate Chinese design, with tours & events.
Another beautiful Chinese Kongsi house in Penang ...
Great place to go if you enjoy historical stuff. Entrance is free and good restoration been done.
A great piece of old Chinese architecture. The temple is well preserved and the outer facade is a sight to behold. I didn’t have time to go inside but this is on my next-trip list.
Very well reserved, displayed a lot old style gathering, meeting, life matters. You can feel the strong culture of the family tradition. Amazed by the strong culture heritage.
Beautifully restored Kongsi with a nice lawn. Great place to visit and have events.
"Open daily 10 AM - 4 PM"? Anyway, yesterday at noon it was closed :-).
Came here during Potehis Puteri Hang Lipo puppet show at its front lawn. The places front facade is magnificent in its build and the event went well.Paid parking can be found all around, but is limited and the narrow roads around the area can be difficult to navigate for newcomers. Will update this review further once I have the chance to enter this place during non-event hours.
good enough to visit, bit if only one choice, I would recommend the Khoo Gongsi
Worth having a look at if youve done everything else you want. Lots of info on signs explaining history of the temple and penang. I wanted to visit khoo kongsi but was always closed when I walked past. Only 10 ringgit, spent about 45 mins looking around.
Indeed a heritage building with fine architecture
Rather less noticed heritage building compared to Khoo Kongsi
The temple was closed when I visited the island (not surprising, during these timesso I could only take pictures from the grounds. It was very well kept and clean. The exterior looked amazing and I can imagine the interior would be the same as well. Will definitely come back here when I can - if only just to visit and snap a few pictures inside the temple.
No parking allowed for visitors and staffs are rude and unwelcoming.Visited there on a Friday afternoon about 1.30am where the gate was wide opened. The area was extremely congested and hard to find any parking space, we drove our car in and a guard said no parking here while we clearly saw many cars were parked inside, then again we made a few attempts to find parking outside. Eventually we found a parking and walked in, and the guard said "Its not opened! Closed!" in a very rude manner, yet we saw many visitors walking around and even inside the building, honestly we dont understand why. If its not opened, why they left the gate wide opened without any sign, if theres no parking, why we saw many cars were parked inside with a few empty slots, if its closed, why we saw many visitors walking around... It made us so confused and disappointed. The only thing good about it was the architecture of the building from what we could saw from outside.Strange enough therere many banners of "Visit Truly Asia Malaysia 2020" displayed all over the fence, and shame enough they did not seem welcoming at all.. I hope this is not the culture of Malaysia theyre promoting for tourism.
Looks nice. But was closed when we visited the place.
Heritage site, but not many things to look, But I learned Penang Chinese history !!
Dont know whats this but looks nice from outside.
Nice place to visit. Traditional furniture, historicsl descriptions
The Cheah Clan Ancestral House is one of the nicest clan house in Georgetown and restored very beautifully. It is also the oldest of the five major Hokkien clan house in Penang. It cost RM10 to enter this beautiful mansion and I would say is very much worth it.The best view of the mansion is of course from Beach Street entrance with its nicely manicured lawn.
Cheah Kongsi is the first of Penangs five great Hokkien clan houses. ... Cheah Kongsi also doubles as a museum: to exhibit the temples 183-year history, several pieces of original furniture and artefacts (well taken care ...
Photogenic temple which costs 10 ringitt to enter. For some reason, Google states this is closed on a Saturday afternoon when I visited whilst it was open.
Loved it. Its closed when I visited. Able to see only from outside. Looks good.
There are a handful of beautifully preserved period mansions in Penang and this is an exception example. The rooms have been restored to how they would have been back in the day. Stunning mahjong playing room, incredible floors and the most ornate and beautiful roofs.
WOW !You can see well maintained one of the great herritage with the ticket entry is only MYR10very worthy...Very nice, well maintained, beautiful place
Im not a history buff, Im a shallow person who likes this place because its sooo insta worthy
Old historical building, not much inside the museum building.
Great little museum dedicated to a local clan and the impact on Georgetown. Great piece of history and highly recommended.
Didnt go in as it seems to have an event therein. Heard that it was an interesting place.
Probably the number 2 well preserved Chinese Clan Temple (Kongsiin Penang. The lawn in front of the clan house is beautiful. The wood carvings and tablet hall inside are not as elaborate as the more famous LST Khoo Kongsi.
Historical site with exhibitions, museum, tempel... explaining the history of Chinese in Penang. Entrance fee is 10RM for foreigners.
The view is magnificent. Worth to visit to take some pictures.
One of the main historical Kongsi in Georgetown Penang. Was able to visit here during the Chinese New Year festivities where they opened doors to public. There is a nice garden courtyard through the front gate. Theres also a side gate entrance. The main building facing the courtyard has nice art decorations. The side entrance leads into the street with lots of shops. I wasnt able visit inside the buildings as it was a private home.
One of historical and beautiful old building in George Town.
This building is beautiful building and so largest area...and the place so close with all the Penang street area so easy to going around to get some great Penang street picture
Nice chinese architecture! Green pasture in front is definitely a great spot for pictures and I think it is suitable for a outdoor mini music concert!
I enjoyed roaming around this place and see how people used to live long time ago. I love learning about different cultures and their histories so it could have been better if there was a tour guide to tour me around and explain everything to me since they asked us to pay for 10.00 ringgit.
really cool artwork here! if you love a bit of contemporary then this is for you
My clan house same surname. Went in many years ago, raining so just passed by. Well preserved
Currently the entrance fee is RM 10 but if you can spot its gorgeous exterior through the gate along Jalan Penang consider yourself lucky...
a magnificient chinese clan house and temple, you have to pay a fee to visit.
I was musing around and stumbled upon this awesome building. I had to pay $10 rm but it is ok. I love the history and the architecture. You can rest upstairs at the balcony and surround yourself with magnificent surroundings.
Everyone seems to just take a photo and left at the gate and left. It was a fruitful visitation for me after visiting and reading all thoughtful notes of this building.Felt engaged after knowing more and more history of this land. Beautiful architecture and there is a hidden small building at the corner for you to read more if you are not sure you want to spend RM10 adult ticket.
Wanted to look at the street art but you have to pay the temple entry fee to look at it properly and not through the railings. Utterly ridiculous and everything that street art stands against. If I was the artist Id want the mural removed. Also the security guard was very rude and shouted at me with no prior warning the second I approached the wall. Cant speak for the temple itself but theres no way Id personally fund a place like this.
Cheah Kongsi is a Chinese style temple situated on Lebuh Armenian and Lebuh Pantai. It was originally established in 1810 by the Hokkien clan who mainly immigrated from the Fujian Province in China. We passed by a couple times during our recent visit and found the temple door closed on Lebuh Armenian. The much larger entrance on Lebuh Pantai was open but it appears that restoration works were taking place. The good news is that you can have a good look at the exterior of Cheah Kongsi, which is decorative and nice to have a quick look at if you enjoy seeing temples. One of the neat things you can see at Cheah Kongsi is the art mural called Cats & Humans Happily Living Together You can find this large and interesting mural by entering the temple grounds from Lebuh Pantai, if the gate is open. Just look to your right and youll see the mural on the wall. The image is a procession of Taoist deities, making their way through the streets of Penang.
It was an interesting experience to wander around this mansion. Its not that big, but there are a lot of curiousities in there. You get to know about the history of the chinese clans who came to penang and also a bit of general history. Well worth a visit.
Perfectly restored and up kept. 10RM entry and no you dont get a guide but there is signs in each room explaining its use and a phenomena exhibition space in the secondary building which gives insight into the Cheah family in Penang and the property. It was quiet and cool as its not a well known clan house. Well worth the visit
Must visit one of the great historical attraction.
Best UNESCO heritage place in penang. Guides are acknowledged and friendly. 10 ringit to get inside and it is worth it.
Cheah Kongsi is not necessarily the most well-known clan house in Georgetown, but passing by it we had to go in. It was lovingly and painstakingly restored, particularly the main hall upstairs. Theres also an interpretive center in an adjacent building with the history of the Cheah clans migration to Penang. Definitely worth its RM10 entrance fee!
Beautiful gem in the heart of georgetown. The history of the chinese arriving to penang mixed with the beautiful chinese architecture makes it well worth the 10 rm ! Dont let people tell you different
If you are architect guru, you MUST visit this place. Knowing the history and design of this family will provide you much passionate on the flow of history
