3 Rue Principale, 37510 Villandry, France, Nantes
Restored Renaissance palace, home to formal gardens with a maze & temporary art exhibitions.
Amazing place to visit, I believe the best season is spring because all the flowers blooming.. we visited it in Autumn and it was great!
This chateau has one of the most beautiful and pleasant smelling gardens in Loire Valley! Its well kept and super organized how they rotate the vegetations each season! I also like that there are explanations for everything in French and English. You can buy tickets just to visit the garden itself. The chateau is ok but u can climb to the roof top to get an aerial view of the garden and there are some interesting private art collections by the owner. Good place to bring kids. They would enjoy the maze.
One of the best places that I have visited so far. Beautiful and full of history, with well explained book guides. A detailed description of how the gardens are kept. Just perfect.
Superb Chateaux in fantastic surroundings. Such beautiful gardens. The highlight of our trip to the Loire Valley so far
For anyone who loves flora and fauna in a formal setting this is a must on your bucket visit list
The Château de Villandry is interesting and you have the most beautiful view of the stunning gardens from the roof top
The castle is beautiful, but its gardens are really amazing! I would like to be among the gardeners working here!
Beautiful Chateau with incredible gardens. Well worth a visit if passing through Tours. Motorhome stop nearby, plenty of parking, dog friendly grounds.
Can highly recommand this beautiful and very typical castle for french styled gardens. I had the audiguide which explained and helped a lot. The visit should take 3-4 hours to see enough and relax also. Hard to imagine that sometimes the owner live here.Interesting is the huge vegetable garden in french style. And I liked also the herbs garden with the good smell of all the different plants. Parking is free and they have plenty spaces even for caravans.
A really lovely chateau that was a fun stop on the trip. Its smaller than some of the more popular chateaux but well kept and you can see quite a bit of the property. I loved seeing family pictures set out and to get a feel of their lives. The gardens are, of course, the best and are worth a stop just for that alone. Theres a room in there upstairs that is a gallery of photos of the grounds and gardeners that is really lovely. The family art collection is on display and while there isnt anything in there I liked, it certainly was interesting!
One of the best gardens ever. The Chateau interior is fascinating. This has to be the best chateau on the Loire to visit.
A very beautiful amazing place.😍 The different gardens are very very nice. 👍👍👍 We will come back asap.See it self and visite on your next trip.
Beautiful gardens, really stunning, and not too many people around. Also loved the garden shop where we bought a few things for our own garden.
The château was incredible & the gardens are absolutely magnificent. I strong encourage you going to Château de Villandry & take your time & enjoy!
incredibile gardens, great castle!pieces of history for a lifetime!
A pleasant visit to the Chateau. The gardens are fabulous and are the best part really. 12 Euro gets you in to both house and garden. Wouldnt bother with the additional 4 euro pp audio guide though.
It is a wonderful place just as I imagined!!!The gardens are beautiful, wonderfully looked after, with everything you would expect. I did enjoyed the time there, some many different areas and although it will take your breath away, it wont take more than a couple of hours of your time or as long as you would like spend there. Highly recommended.
Beautiful gardens. We went right when the opened for the day, and there was almost nobody else there yet. So, I definitely recommend getting there when they open.
We did the candlelit garden in early August - an incredibly special event where 2000 candles illuminate the stunning gardens. Some great games were setup. It was, however, absolutely packed - although considering the quality of the event, it was not surprising.
The most visited gardens of all Château’s
Magnificent castle, extremely well renovated, impressive gardens and lots of things to visit. I highly recommend the Château de Villandry for a romantic break or a family day.
The chateau is really beautifulThere are two ways of sightseeing:Just the garden, or combined with chateau tourIn my opinion worthy to see, one of the most brilliant in the neighborhood
Stunning grounds, lovely to wader round. We only paid for the gardens, about 7 euros. You can take a dog or even your dog if you wish! My advice would be get there at opening time 9 am if you can, as with all tourist attractions, the coaches soon turn up,so beat the shuffling masses. Great value trip.
Lovely chateau. Good price. The rooms were gorgeous and you could almost imagine living in them, rather than the grandeur that you see in most chateaux. The gardens were beautiful. Ive come away with ideas, which Ill need to scale down a lot, for my garden. Really peaceful walking around (Wednesday in early July).Highly recommended
Good value for money, 15 euros for 2 adults to tour the gardens. Gardens are a real work of art and well worth a look.
Were been there many years ago and their gardens are so beautifully done. But it was a hot day, so we instead had a great lunch at the restaurant next to it. It was La Doulce Terrasse. Enjoy the Chateau and have lunch next door!
What an amazing garden!I’m not sure I ever went to Versailles, but I sure saw a lot of castles, and this is more like a palace (on my definition of castle 😅, well on what I’m used to in Portugal and UKbut it is lovely!I had a great time seeing the castle and strolling through the garden.I didn’t get an audio guide but I listened a bit to the French tour, and even though I can’t speak French, I understood enough to say, if you get on time of a tour, take it ☺️.The tour is only on the castle, but the guide was funny and you could she she loved her job ☺️This place is really worth a visit, and I need more vacation days to see all the castles 🥰
Such a beautiful place to visit. Palace was great and was the garden. Very beautiful.Enjoyed being there. Connectivity was also nice. Tourism office members from Tours helped us to reach there. Rather city bus also goes there.😊😊
Out of the 8 Chateaus me and my wive visited i would only recommend two. This is one of them. Although the castle itself is OK the gardens are amazing. Truly breath taking.
We did not go into the chateaux, however we really enjoyed our amble through the gardens, they are beautiful. Upon arrival, you will receive a map with a suggested route. We finished the afternoon with ice-cream.
One of my favorite castles to visit in the Loire Valley. If you want to see the gardens at their most beautiful point then plan a visit in July or August. This is French gardening at its peak! Remember you go there for the gardens, that being said the castle is in pretty good shape and worth the visit. Dont miss the view of the gardens from the tower!
Very beautiful castle and gardens, you could visit just the gardens but seeing the castle and the gardens together is worth it.
A very nice chateau. You can either buy the ticket for the castle + garden or just the garden. But just the view over the gardens from the castletower is well worth it. The Castle Interieur is also quite nice and is not so over the top, that you can actually imagine people were living here. The Garden is absolutely astonishing and a "Must See".
Lovely place to visit and wander around on a sunny day..Lots of English signs so I could understand the history.
Great visit. Its nice to do it with a guide or audioguide. Its pretty cold inside on winter.
We visited Villandry on New Years Eve 2021. The chateau was decorated for the Christmas and New Year which made for a spectacular visit. Although the gardens were in winter mode, we admired the extent and layouts of the various elements.
Fun place, tons of fun rooms and the gardens outside are loaded, even in the winter it was fun to see the whole layout. Easy to walk around and tons of viewpoints with different angles for the gardens.
Fantastic gardens and also very nice interior of the castles. From my point of view one of the top châteaus to visit in the area.
The gardens of Villandry are one of the few places in France to be open every day of the year. Make the most of it and be amazed at their constantly changing beauty from January to December!Enjoy!
A favourite Château to visit, love to go each season to enjoy the different planting. Nice walking and cycling close by too.
Château de Villandry, the castle and formal water, flower and vegetable gardens are great. This Renaissance splendour is amazing to visit. I went early in the morning when there are less visitors.
This afternoon we visited the Villandry Chateau.Think of it as a residence (not a castleof wealthy a medieval lord. While the Chateau was wonderful, the gardens were breathtaking!!!The pictures speak for themselves…
Absolutely beautiful gardens. The chateau is worth a visit for the gardens alone, but I would add in the chateau itself for a chance to climb the crazy staircase to the roof of the oldest part.
In the castle dogs are not allowed. Only small dogs if you carry them. In the garden they are allowed. It’s really nice and big. Only issue we have is like all the castles you have to pay everywhere around 14€ entrance. It’s really a lot if you want to visit more castles.
The gardens are amazing! The castle is smaller, "newer" and probably less important than other nearby castles like Blois, Chambord or Chenonceaux, but it is still beautiful and worth visiting. I enjoyed the experience very much. Recommended.
I was more impressed with the gardens than the inside of the Chateau. There is a herb garden section with labels too for inspiration! Dog friendly. Just need to carry your dog in a bag inside the chateau. The ice cream out the front was actually very good. Try the Hibiscus!
Really nice garden, and also a nice castle, the price for both was 12.5, you can totally skip the castle and still have a great time
I loved the castle and gardens. The only 1 thing I didnt like is the process of renting audioguides. They take your passport for the time while you using ration. I understand that they want you do not forget to bring it back. But in same time I think its illegal move from 80s
A stunning and relatively simple castle. The visit is to the courtyard, the large terrace and the amazing and endless gardens. Spectacular and invested flower gardens, at a very high level. We visited an evening activity with games for the whole family in the yard, with candles and musicians that accompanied the visit and was lovely - the visit to the gardens at sunset was very special. Stunning place and suitable for visiting even with children.
Visited for the festival of candles. Beautiful experience, the gardens were lovely during the sunset. The games added fun to the day, while the costume players added a splash of colour and liveliness to the event.
