An impressive castle with good views. Tickets to get inside are cheap, but what you will see inside is a bit disappointing. Static showcases with objects, and descriptions only in French. You will also find some original furniture and wall art. Nevertheless, we had a good time spent over there.

The castle is very likely an fairy tale one. Inside some rooms are nicely decorated. But a lot rooms are with porcellan and horseriding stuff. This was not so interesting. Also I missed an audio guide. But still it is a highlight of Saumur, beside the caves and the old town. If you like to climb the belvedere, that is only possible with a guided tour. But you see also enough from around the castle. The view is very nice.Also very good photos can be done, if you walk and park for free over the bridge to the right. There are also wooden boats for nice pictures.

Beautiful chateau with stunning views of Saumur. The 8 euro entrance fee per person is good value and allows you to look round several floors of the chateau and the many exhibits.

Brilliant castle.Interior is not as complete as other château in the loire but visually this place is great with views to match.

Not quite as I remembered it from 1987. Much better, in fact. No completely furnished rooms like you see in other castles. Instead, you get some very nice museum exhibits. Lots of porcelain, but also a very interesting exhibit of horse equipment during the ages.The castle and its walls offer lots of panoramic views of Saumur and its surrounding countryside.

Well worth visit.Stunning location over looking the Loire

Its such an imposing building when you head into Saumur. We can see it from the Aire we are staying on at Ile de Offard, next door to Flowers Camping.

Whilst we didnt actually enter the Chateaux itself as we had come to visit Saumur and the surrounding area. There is absolutely no doubt it creates a stunning backdrop to the town itself and the architecture of the building is simply breath-taking. The town is certainly worth a visit but park across the river as its free and ample parking and enjoy the short walk across the bridge. Lots of little streets to explore with lovely gift shops, taverns and restaurants. I would if you have more time definitely make a visit to the Chateaux but having already visited several others this was a short visit.

Magnificent splendour! Just enormous and so beautiful. SAUMUR is a stunning town with this incredible sight.

A beautiful chateau well worth the visit. This time we used the road train from the tourist centre in Saumur to get there parking down by the river.

Great château to visit. We bought tickets at the tourist information office, they are 1 euro cheaper per ticket than if you buy them at the castle shop. Free parking and free to wander the grounds, but definitely worth the ticket price to see inside. The display boards are in English but they have smaller handheld ones available in English. You can take the petit train down into town, then get off for a wander, and then take the train back up. The toilets were clean and plenty of picnic benches etc. A great day out!

Very beautiful castle placed well enough to have an amazing view over the City. The entrance inside it costs 8€ but the view pays it all

Really nice chateau. Definitely worth the visit if you are in the area. Really great collection of ceramics if you are into that, and also some really cool collections of old equestrian gear. It also gives you some really nice views of the valley.

A fascinating visit fortified of the castle with a 1000 years of history. Fantastic views of the river Loire. And a great farmers market in the town if you visit on a Saturday.

Excellent support staff. Limited internal decorations; however a very helpful guide provided a detailed explanation of each room bringing the history alive. An outstanding collection of porcelain.Great views of the city and the cafe is worth a visit to recharge.

For me, View outside really beautiful. I can see city, river and bridges here but inside chateau it is less interesting.

This is just stunnung perched above the Loire River having recently undergone some renovation. The vinyard thats been there since the Rennasicance watching the sun go down was beautiful.

Interesting building and exhibition. The tapestries were amazingly well preserved. There are a lot of stairs to climb so not good for those that have mobility difficulties. The views of Saumur and the river are spatula from the ramparts. Well worth a visit.

Extraordinary history of a Chateau becoming a prison and back to a museum for the community.

Nice looking chateau. It is very impressive from the outside and has great views of the town from its gardens. The inside is more a museum than a show of how the owners lived. It shows some stuffed animals, lots of pottery and horse related equipment. Personally I prefer the outside and I think there is no need for an interior visit.

Pretty views of the Loire River down below. Nice place to visit for an hour.

Cost 19 euro to visit for 2 adults, that included a separate building with horse tackle from different time periods. You get to explore the main level of the palace which has some tapestry and furniture throughout.

Imposing castle with incredible views in all directions. The museum has cards in English to describe the items on show. Shame that the higher levels are not open to the public, but worth a visit anyway

Saumur castle is very beautiful and worth a visit. The complex has a great architecture and is located just in the centre of the town. The ticket is cheap respect to other castle in the Loire region and there is a parking near the entrance. Few minutes walking outside the castle you can see the cathedral. A very pleasant atmosphere!

Dog friendly to walk around the castle. Lots of free parking and places to have a picnic. Excellent views of the city and the Loire River. Highly recommend to stop for a visit if you’re in the region. Very popular with tourists from all over

Great view, nice enough cafeteria/restaurant with lovely wines. We didn’t visit the local museum or entered the castle. The location is suitable for families with little children.

Nicely renovated pile, reasonable entrance fee of seven euros.

Beautifully maintained medieval castle. Lovely walk through a delightful town with many impressive buildings. There is a panoramic walk that postcodes heat views of the castle, the bridge and Loire. Great at night with the lights reflecting off the water. Its free to walk to and around the castle, with great views of the town.Definitely with taking a stroll up. As well as crossing the bridge to see the spectacular view back across the river with the castle overseeing all.

Did not go inside the castle, only strolled around its exterior garden. The architecture of the castle is generally photogenic, but could not really spark my interest somehow.

A beautiful well kept castle that is still being reconstructed and will be for a very long time to come! Fantastic views of the town also.

The castle is beautiful from the outside but nothing much to visit inside except the exhibition of some works by artists and old objects. There are English and French guides available for groups.

Nice views, it’s 6 euros to go inside the Chateaux, there is not much to see except the building itself. It’s an interesting spectacle and the views around are very nice. Guided tours are available, we didn’t avail ourselves of this and the people on the tours didn’t seem to be finding them very interesting.

I went during the winter, before the 31st of March so the Chateau was closed, so take that into account t when visiting. The trip was still worth it because you can still climb to where the Castel stands and explore its sorroundings, and that vantage point offers the best possible view of the city along with the river.

From this chateaux there is an amazing view of the Loire and valley beyond, due to it being built high above the town. Then on out beyond on the hilltop there are many beautiful vineyards to explore.

An interesting and historic Château undergoing substantial refurbishment perched high above the town of Saumur with superb views over both the town and the Loire river.The entry fee of 6 euro reflects that it is a work in progress but it still has much to offer its visitors with interesting exhibits in all of the rooms that have been reopened to the public. Helpful staff, many of whom speak English, are on hand to enhance your visit.Some areas have disabled access but not all at this time.Well worth the visit for the views alone.
