Lovely setting , next to a stream/river and overlooking fields to the north. The castle is interesting with a lovely garden and various perilous pieces, but as noted elsewhere needs $30-$50 million restoration work.

The castle is nice on the outside but it’s not worth the price and the time on the inside. They tell the story of the sleeping beauty and it’s full of dusty mannequins everywhere. Then you visit the dustiest attic of all. A good deal would have been tickets for the gardens & outside.

Not quite as open as Chateau Villandry, but this is also a chateau we really enjoyed. Its in a lovely setting with a moat and bridge leading up to it. There arent that many rooms for public view but the chapel on the grounds is beautiful. They have a terrific display of costumes set up throughout that makes it nice and they also allow you down to the absolute bottom part down in the foundations that is cool and spooky

It is a very nice visit. But you have to drive carefully because of the narrow roads close to the castle.

The Château is impressive from the outside. The chateau, chapel and gardens. It’s not in anyway disabled friendly. That’s why it’s 3 star for me. It’s worth a visit with the rich history that it encompasses. The prison was small, I wondered if this was only part of it as the chateau is continuing to be restored. The place that inspired the sleeping beauty fairytale , it was written here.

Beautiful chateau, privately owned, lots to see in the house, prison, stables, chapel and caves. Great for kids as they have the Sleeping Beauty story narrated on a special walk in one of the towers and battlements. Everything is documented, but would recommend hiring the "Audio Pen" audioguide available in various languages

If you get the chance go here. Lots of information boards and displays around the grounds and indoors. A bit busy but you can see that they are spending money on the upkeep.

This château was reputedly the base for the description of the castle in "Sleeping Beauty". A delightful experience although busy when we visited. Reception staff are friendly, helpful and cheerful. And its dog friendly! Excellent, enchanting and not to be missed.

Very nice from outside, absolutely not worth paying the entrance to visit: couple of restored rooms, dusty attic with mannequins - was disappointing for 14€ ticket price.

Incredible old chateau and gardens with an entertaining tour route enlivened by mannequins in situ wearing fashions of the time. The Sleeping Beauty element could be dragged into the 21st century a little but was still a fun addition.

We visited this chateau yesterday. It was allegedly the chateau that inspired the story of sleeping beauty. The have cleverly used some of the rooms in one of the towers and artifacts from the chateau to tell the story. They also have rooms displayed in their original format with historic artifacts and artwork. There are alse some small by other chateau standards gardens. The prison, a chapel and caves to see and explore. They also had a display of horse artifacts and carriages. We spent 2 hours there, but you could easily spend longer.

I cannot stress enough how very disappointing this chateau is. The outside is beautiful! But inside, it smells absolutely terrible. The many, many creepy mannequins, in their cheesy costumes, took away from appreciating the architecture; there are far too many, and they are entirely not necessary. I was hoping the tower was the only place with the mannequins used for the Sleeping Beauty story. Still, I was highly disappointed, seeing that they were everywhere throughout the chateau. The only thing worth seeing is the garden and chapel. Don’t waste your time.

Beautiful Loire Castle with very nice rose gardens. Lively presentation of live in a castle with many puppets. Not as crowded as some of the other Loire castles as not along the main traffic roads.

The castle is full of history, and the Sleeping Beauty tower is one of their highlights and it would be interesting for children. Their garden was very pretty even in September, and there were still lots of nice flowers blooming. It is definitely worth the visit. It wasn’t too crowded in September, and there were plenty of nice photo spots. What a lovely castle!

Lovely little château, that supposedly inspired the story of Sleeping Beauty. The story is told while climbing up the tower through different scenes with mannequins. The main area of the castle is also nice, but is currently hosting a fashion expo, which is not in keeping with the vibe of the château.

Beautiful on the outside but a bit tacky on the inside - not much to see except for some mannequins. I don’t think it was worth the 14€ entrance fee. The gardens are pretty but small. I’d recommend driving by, but visiting another chateau in the area instead.

The castle is a beautiful sight to see and also the surrounding landscape and the views are great. But this place has obviously deteriorated by virtue of its popularity as the ‘Sleeping beauty castle’. The building itself is very much in need of some maintenance, which apparently the very high entrance fee can’t seem to cover. The walking route through the castle and the information provided there are a big disappointment: one of the ‘highlights’ is an attic full of dusty junk. The entrance fee is higher than any other château we have visited, but I found this one the least worthwhile. Instead of entering the castle grounds just look at it from outside and you will already have seen the best of it.

I love this castle located in the little town. I like because it’s little on the hill with a nice view. The”chateau de la belle au bois dormants ”. The parc is pretty , great little walk and the inside is well decorated with mix of art. Easy to park next to the castle. You can visit the chapel too. Nice walk outside the castle to enjoy the view.

Famed for its picturesque aspect, Ussé was the subject of a French railroad poster issued by the Chemin de Fer de Paris à Orléans in the 1920s and was one of several that inspired Walt Disney in the creation of many of the Disney Castles.

Nice castle with a few distinguishing features. It has a Sleeping Beauty tower tour and other scenes throughout the castle that are portrayed by wax-like figures in historical clothing. Most of the rooms are gorgeous! There is also an underground room and a small jail which are kinda neat. The gardens are very beautiful as well, with lots of butterflies... I would recommend visiting it, and I believe it would be a visit suited to children as well.

There are some slightly odd reviews of Chateaux dUssé regarding the Sleeping Beauty element. My family found the castle to be charming and a lovely day out. We have visited a fair few chateaux and this is in my favourite list. The building is beautiful and the gardens pretty and compact. Lots of fruit trees and formal citrus which is unusual. The rooms are made far less boring by adding well made manakins in period costume. These are also employed along with the many spiral staircases to tell the story of Sleeping Beauty. I was impressed. We usually move as fast as we can through rooms of guilded furniture and gloomy paintings of strange looking overweight men in staged poses on fictional horses. This time we spent as much time in the house as out. A job well done I thought.

A most beautiful château with impressive gardens. Beautifully kept and with an interesting theme to sleeping beauty (where the fairy tale was supposedly written). Right opposite the entrance is a pleasant cafe bar. Worth a visit.

Nice and interesting castle! It is located in the middle of a very nice place, full of green areas and nice natural views. The castle is in very good conditions including many of rooms, exterior buildings such as a little church, a stable and it has a funny story of the sleeping beauty in many rooms. Interesting fact: the castle belong to a family, and actually, part of the castle is used for living.I suggest visiting the castle!

The facade of the chateau is very impressive, the garden is great too, however, I need to deduct one star because of the bizarre human figures arranged in each and every room (even the stairway! The period clothes of the figures are not in medieval or renaissance style, rather, the 1920s or around, not sure why they want to spoil the otherwise lovely rooms and interior. The sleeping beauty tower is fun, but perhaps you need to be a child to really appreciate the style deployed in recreating the famous fairytale.

Charming castle but the entrance fee rather expensive, 14 euro/ person. The indoor space is well preserved, kids will be impressed to see the story of Sleeping Beauty with all sorts of dolls in every room. it seems like the owners are living in one of the wings of the castle. they also have a chapel, some dungeons and old stables .

We loved loved loved this castle! Since the author of sleeping beauty was inspired by this castle to write the story, there is a section of the castle that takes you through scenes of the story. Besides that, there are parts that are kept looking untouched and other parts that are setup like the time period when it was used as a château. There is a chapel, gardens, a prison, and an underground tunnel used for escaping during times of war. We were in a rush so only had about 45 minutes but we are able to see a lot.

My absolute favorite! If you are visiting the Loire Valley, you must take time to visit this chateau. Settled on the edge of a large forest, its one of the most beautiful places Ive ever seen. This is also the castle that inspired the Sleeping Beauty fairy tale. You will not be disappointed!

For someone who is used to the British style "castle tour" Usse is the French alternative that comes closest. The Sleeping Beauty tour is very well designed taking you across the walls and attic of the castle hunting for the next tableau. Even if you know the story, as an adult, you will still enjoy the round. Free parking across the street.
