Relaxed, family-run option serving Thai lunch & dinner specialties in a warm, intimate space.
We walked for 20mins to find this place to then only discover they are closed for dining in, take away only. We ordered and OMG, it’s incredible. I had the crab Phad Thai, get it, you won’t regret it.
Only to go now, my fav thai place in the areaGotta try their garlic fish, so good! Also curry roti and tom yum soupPad thai is good, but pa se we better!
Today was my third order in 2 months. The quality and consistency is great! Their potstickers prawns in a blanket and pad Thai are amazing!
Amazing food & excellent customer service!! The owner is so friendly & kind. Food is always good quality! My go-to when I’m craving Thai food! Totally recommend this place!
Food is just great . We ordered sea food fried rice and yellow curry both were delicious. They might have forgotten the rice which we expected to be there with yellow curry order.
Ive been here a couple times and the things Ive liked so far have been the spring rolls, Thai curry, Thai fried rice (deliciousand the samosas. Looking forward to returning someday.
Best Thai food in the Bay Area. Order the pad Thai, pumpkin curry, chicken skewers, fresh rolls, spring rolls, or anything else on the menu. We haven’t had a bad experience here!! Oh, and order through their website!
So cal lovers of Thai food.. look no further! This is a taste of home! Thai food is my favorite and since Ive moved to the bay area, Ive been trying to find a place that makes their food like LA and OC. This is hands down the PLACE! So delicious and comforting. This will be my new spot from now on! ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
The best Thai food we have experienced so far! We come here once a month or so and the food never disappoints. I just wish they opened a bit earlier on weekends for early dinner or late lunch pick-ups. Because they are very popular, I also hope they will use more compostable or recyclable packages.
Love the food and enjoy it quite often, BUT today I had a piece broken plate (porcelainin my egg roll!! about an 1.5” sharp piece! When I called, I received a mild apology and a promise to get the egg roll free next time I order. Am I going to order again?!? Not at all sure!Be careful! I am lucky my teeth didn’t break or that I didn’t swallow it
Best Thai Food in San Mateo. Amazing Curries, Pad Thai, Pad Ki Mao, Soups and everything else is just superb. Authentic flavours. Choice of spice levels are bonus. We have turned our normal Thursdays in to Thai Thursdays perpetually.👍👍👍
My wife and I get take-out here on a monthly cadence, and its always great. The Pad Thai, the Larb, and Tom Yum, and the chicken satay are favourites of ours. The spice level isnt ALWAYS super consistent (i.e. a spice level 2 can blow your head off one time, and on others a spice level 3 can leave you wanting more heat... But honestly that mystery is part of the appeal.
This place is amazing! Super delicious food.If you want a little spice, go 1 or zero ...or else LOL!Very well priced. Will miss this place when I move off the Penninsula. My only goal is not eating there every night of the week.Basically. Eat. Here!
This is absolutely the best spot for Thai food in San Mateo. The food was really affordable, however, the portions were slightly underwhelming. Im guessing that was because we decided to order to-go during the Covid-19 crisis. We ordered the Pad See Ew, crab fried rice, Tom Kha soup, Pad broccoli. The food was really flavorful and wasnt too salty or oily.
Best Thai food in town. Pad see ew, pumpkin curry, and Pa Ram (vegetables with peanut sauce - ask for extra peanut sauceare all great.
Update: Ordered during SIP, what a complete disappointment. Their Pad Thai amongst other menu items tends to be quite inconsistent in flavor and consistency. Easily the worst Pad Thai Ive ever had...Solid thai option in San Mateo, nothing exceptional but everything is good.
One of the best Thai restaurants in the area.Moo Krapow is tasty. We ordered some dishes NO spicy and less spicy but it came as regular order.I would have given it 5 stars if they it was less spicy as requested. We tried ordering via online and the phone it still came out too spicy @ lvl 1/5It felt like a 3. I cannot imagine what 5 would be... beware if you can’t take the heat!
Love the Thai food here. Everything weve gotten has been solid. Some favs are crab pad Thai, pad see ew, pad kee Mao, crab fried rice, papaya salad, and the roti prata with green curry.
I ordered some Thai food for delivery. I was really disappointed when my food was delivered to me it was someone else’s food. I was really craving pad Thai and so I ended up placing another order. The pad Thai was average but the pad se-ew was pretty good. The spicy noodle soup was ok. I just wish they gave me more soup. When I dumped the noodles into the soup, it was definitely not enough. My noodle soup ended up not being a soup at all.
Seems catered toward San Mateo area than true Thai flavors. Beef is pretty chewy. Since when does any asian restaurant charge an extra $2 for a small bowl of rice when curry should already be served with rice? Rice is cheap. Its a bit ridiculous and misleading when it doesnt say it on the menu and your waitress has to point it out, which is a sign that charging extra not usual. One of the only thai restaurants around so it is busy even on a week day. Staff is pretty busy during dinner and just gives you your plate and your drink, no refills on water, unless you flag down someone. Quality of food is good bc not too oily but could use flavor. Serving size is on the smaller end. Try other thai places in South Bay.
Good Thai food. Busy during lunch time.
For vegetarian: Never order fried rice here expecting tofu and no eggs. Everytime I put order for Thai or Spicy fried rice with tofu and vegetables and also put No Eggs No Meat please, theyve added eggs in it. Im very disappointed by this. Please go for thai iced tea and green curry though. Theyre are good.
Its pretty close to the food I grew up eating. They serve authentic Thai dishes with personal spins that caters well to most palettes. It can get pretty busy so sometimes you have to call out for service, but they do pretty well considering. I was in and out within 30 minutes for lunch. Definitely worth coming back to
This is certainly one of the best place to eat in the region. Whenever I visit this place I am greatly happy. They keep their high standard service and the highest level of cooking they provide. You no doubt will love this place. Warmly recommended.
Feeling very ripped off. I usually reserve one star reserves for sanitation issues or horrendous service but this places "food" is just laughable. The Tom yum soup tasted like ketchup water with a splash of lemon. And look at the mango sticky rice they sell for $6. When I saw the 1/6 slice of mango I thought it was a joke.
Small and simple, no frills decor but excellent Thai food at reasonable prices.
Charm! Where have you been my whole life! By fast the best Thai restaurant on the peninsula! I wish I couldve given 10! Everything we ate was super tasty. Service and ambience was also friendly and warm.
Went for a quick dinner with a friend and the place was ok. The portions are very generous, the food is pretty good, served hot, and the portions are quite nice. However, its pretty generic and nothing really stood out. So, good for your casual thai fare, not really a hole in the wall with one or two specialties that really stand out.
Great food, friendly staff and reasonably priced. Will be coming back again and again! My gf and I ordered shrimp rolls, a bowl of tom kha (MUST TRYand pad thai. Everything was tasty and we were stuffed.
This is a solid restaurant. They have all of the Thai-American classics, such as curries, rice dishes, and noodle soups. My biggest complaint is that the spicy food is not spicy enough. This is the perfect place to go if you are looking for a sensibly priced, decently large, and fair-tasting meal.
I get a little jaded with the Asian restaurant scene down the Peninsula. Theres only so many chinese-run teriyaki places, pho every pho blocks (sorry, and dont get me started on chinese restaurants. So when we went to Charm Thai I was hoping itll be different. It was totally unexpected. Its not in downtown SM where Asian places almost outnumber Asian customers(jk). Its on ECR halfway between downtown and 92 almost next door to Mickey Ds. We were a party of 8 which allowed us to order more food, and variety. Started with the chicken wings-crunchy, hot, with a little sweet sauce... Gimme a couple of orders and rice and Im good for dinner, but thats just the beginning. We had larb- lime-tangy, crunchy veggies, its really good. Then the food started coming out - pad Thai, pad se-ew, green chicken curry, pineapple fried rice. Moat places skimp on the black bean with pad se-ew but Charm Thai nails it. The curry had enough spice and creaminess to be interesting without calling SMFD. Maybe the most impressive is the Garlic Fish-pieces of sole deep fried crunchy and hot, fish is flaky moist and tender. Change my order to the fish AND chicken wings with the rice and Im good for dinner! The place is kinda small but food comes quick and their quality is spot on. The staff is friendly, they keep the water coming...but splurge and try the lychee ice tea. A bit sweet but nothing some water wont fix, but if the currys a bit hot youll be happy you did. Great stuff Charm Thai, well be back!I
Good, tasty food, tho very small portions. Terrible acoustics (soooooo loud), uncomfortable seating, laxidasical service, sketchy neighborhood. Great time with old friends even tho the power went out for 2 hours (thankfully after the food was served!😊
Great find super close to work! The curry definitely had a good amount of flavor. The staff was friendly and fast to make sure and check on us that we had everything. If you come here for lunch make sure to get here before 1140, or else it will be certain that we have
This place was really good! The food was excellent and surprisingly filling, especially for the portion sizes. The interior decor created a very nice charm to it, connecting to the name of the restaurant. Despite being small, there was still room for my family and myself. The food was expertly made and it was really good. This place definitely does deserves their five stars.
Its my favorite restaurant in the bay area. :Service is a bit slow, but super polite. The food though, is the best I have had from any restaurant. Idk if this is authentic Thai or not, but whatever they serve up tastes absolutely Godly. Definitely try this if you are undecided.
Very flavorful! I asked for medium spice -- 3 stars -- and officially should have gone with 1 star. But I are it all anyway! The pumpkin curry was so so good!
This is our favorite local Thai restaurant. Every dish weve tried is great. Our favorites are the Pad See Ew and the yellow curry. The Pad Thai is good as well. The restaurant is pretty small, but we usually order delivery. Unfortunately they dont serve alcohol.
Very standard Thai fare. My friend and I shared chicken pad thai and beef pad see ew. Id give 4 stars for my pad see ew but the pad thai tasted a lot like it had much ketchup in it hence the 3 star review. Probably will give them another try.Update: We tried their fried rice and green curry with chicken. Green curry was very good while the fried rice didn’t have much toppings/ingredients. Solid experience again.
Came here on a weekday with my boyfriend for dinner. Small space but cute and cozy decor. I can see it getting busy on the weekends but we didnt have to wait on a weekday. Easy street parking (2 hr available and side street parking). We both ordered the crab pad thai and it was delicious. Prices are quite good for the area with generous portions. Will be back again!
Delicious! Maybe the best Thai food Ive ever had.Start with fresh rolls, crispy treats with a peanut sauce. Then had fried rice with chicken, and prig king with chicken. All tasty, fresh, spicy but toned down per our request and just right. I had to make myself stop eating to avoid feeling stuffed.Small but clean restaurant, worth the visit. Moderate prices.
Food was good, service was fast. Bit perplexed by automatic 18% gratuity they charged for two adults and 2 kids!
Yum! Im a big fan of Thai food and visited Charm Tai Eatery over the weekend. I was very impressed with the flavors. Ordered the Roti with Green Curry and Spring Rolls for an appetizer—the green curry was incredible. My dinner was their Red Curry with Tofu. While Im not ever a big fan of peppers in curries, the curry itself was spot on. My boyfriend had the Sweet and Sour Tofu and his mom had the Thai Chow Mein—they were both satisfied. Also, there was a revolving door of take out orders and thats always a good sign to me. I cant wait to come back and try more dishes.
Have been eating Thai food for over 10 years and this place is the absolute best. My wife hated Thai food after I took her to the wrong place but Charm Thai Eatery made her a fan of Thai cuisine. The pumpkin curry is the best (spicy level 3my only criticism could be the pad Thai it definitely needs for peanut sauce. If you get it on the side that charge you like it is a whole other plate.
My friends and I stopped by this place after a hike and were hungry! We saw good reviews so we came in here, knowing that good Thai places are hard to find. We were pleasantly surprised! Everything we got was delicious and thats always a good sign. Its a small, cozy place with street parking off of the main road. Its a little out of our way, but hoping to make it back soon!
Friendly staff. Clean and cozy environment. Very good food all around. the Currys, fried stuff, noodle dishes. This is def my local Thai spot. Been here 5 times so far.
Their sauces are really good. Anything with their yellow curry and seafood tastes great! Crab fried rice was a little soggy but still a good eat. Their roti with condensed milk could be more crispy but overall a good eat
What a charming Thai restaurants. Parking is not so fun...drive around the neighborhood area and make sure to check signs for parking limits. The space is small, so get a reservation if you can. They have a good selection on their menu -- a must is the garlic fish...so good!!! How do you judge a Thai restaurant? By their pad thai -- they passed (Ive been to a restaurant or two that didnt make it well). The food was delicious and tasted authentic.
Yum!!! Love the fish special. Green curry appetizer is good, Tom yum soup is good, paw see ew with beef also yummy. Generally I have liked all the dishes here. The servers are really nice and friendly, very welcoming. The place is pretty small so had to wait a little bit to get seated. Also people are walking in and out and not closing the door all the way, so avoid sitting near the door on a chilly night.
This is a wonderful, friendly place with great food. Its a go-to lunch spot for folks in our office. Food is always fresh, tasty and beautifully presented. Lots for vegetarians and omnivores alike to love. Lunches come with a salad (which is good but could use a dressing that is more definitively Thaiand either a spring roll or roti, and rice. Service is attentive and warm. Really glad to have this place nearby.
So glad this place opened. The yellow curry is the best Ive had. My gf got the pad thai and thought it was amazing. Both dishes came with more than enough food. I ordered it for take-out and the wait staff was really nice while I was waiting. Definitely look forward to eating here again.
