Chateau-style house built in 1894, once home to a U.S. vice president, open for guided tours.
Beautiful space and amazing wedding venue!! We loved working with a Kris who was very flexible and helpful when we made changes. We really appreciated being married on beautiful Evanston and our guests loved this unique venue!
Amazing house for Evanston history
Absolutely beautiful place. Great tour and knowledgeable tour guide!
Its a nice little sort of museum or old house with fanily history. Lady at reception is really nice and welcoming. They charged us 10$ for the house tour. House can be visited in half an hour.
We were there for a private event, not a tour. Nonetheless the staff and volunteers were very wonderful and beyond welcoming.
My family and I happened to be walking by this beautiful house yesterday. As I walked up to read the plaque by the front door it opened and an older gentleman asked if we would like to look inside. He said the last tour for the day was over but we could just walk around a bit. He then proceeded to give my family and I a personal tour of the entire first floor, I can not imagine that the official tour could have been any more informative.
Great source of local history, a must vist
They always give such a nice tour. The house is amazing. Dont miss their mothers day event.
beautiful place
Beautiful historic residence thats now a museum right off of Lake Michigan. Everyone thats works there are the some of the nicest people Ive met.
A gem of a place just off the lake. Lots of truly fascinating history, but I was there for a concert with the Evanston Chamber Music Society 👍
Beautiful historic building. Lots of rooms and a gorgeous staircase all done with beautiful oak wood. Impressive!
Very interesting
Great venue for small musical performances.
Beautiful home. Tour guide was friendly and was knowable about the property.
Well-maintained house of a former VP with a fascinating history. Very well done exhibits.
Historical mansion in a beautiful location. Another Gates - most interesting person. Definitely worth stopping by.
Great Ice cream social
I walked by for over a decade without knowing who Charles Dawes was. Oops. Some serious history in this house! The house is on par with some of great historic mansions and worth an architectural tour. There is a small exhibit upstairs on the history of Evanston as well. Very interesting. They have a few open house events a year. Worth the visit!
Grand old house, but no bedrooms to tour
Fascinating house and museum. Beautifully preserved and restored. A rich history presented in tours 5 days a week. Also the home of the Evanston History Center. With the complete history of the city available to read and research. The ballroom is available for special events. A shining bright spot in the city of Evanston across the street from the lakefront.
Amazing detail from the structure itself to the contents within.
Very educational about an interesting Illinois historical figure. The house and furniture itself is very beautiful and worth seeing. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly and happy to answer our questions. Lots of good exhibits upstairs as well. Close to the beach and worth a trip.
Beautiful representation of a bygone opulent era
A must see Museum. I was lucky to attend a wedding & experience the full grander of this historic mansion.
The property is beautiful, and they have a 5 dollar tour that goes through the history of the house and lasts an hour. Its also a beautiful place to have your wedding ceremony or pictures taken.
Beautiful mansion! Went here during the open house architecture days and there were many interesting things on display of Dawes equipment, history on Evanston (Ridgeville), and many other things!
Nice look at life 100 years ago
