Deemed the oldest temple in Nepal, this hilltop shrine offers statues & artwork dedicated to Vishnu.
Changu Narayan is a Hindu temple located in the town of Bhaktapur, Nepal. It is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is one of the oldest temples in the country, dating back to the 5th century. The temple is located atop a hill and is surrounded by forest. The main attraction of the temple is its unique architecture and sculptures. The temple has a three-tiered roof and is adorned with intricate carvings and paintings.
Foreigner’s Experience: this is Nepal’s oldest Temple. Too bad it was under renovation when we went to there is building materials everywhere. It’s for the temple’s best though.
Under renovation. You pay hefty fees to enter the site.climb steep steps only to find temple closed and renovation going on .even toilets not functional
A historical place to visit located in changunarayan, bhaktapurBut renovation of temple is going on still you will be amazed with the design of temple and beautiful scenarios around it .
Changu narayan has a great religious history. And is a good place for visit. But the thing that dissapointed me is the renovation work after earthquake😩. was expecting to be more better than what i saw
For every tourists. The temple area was open but the temples themselve were closed. The full area was a terrible worksite mess. 350 NPR seems a lot of money to access to a worksite.I asked at the ticket boot if the temple was open before entering and the seller said me "yes"... Well... When someone lie to you to get your money, I think its what we call a scam.
Amazing Historic place. We can see a lot of aesthetic historical things.
Great Experience. Amazing place, historical temple. You can visit this temple alone or with friends and family; Village area.
Changu Narayan is considered to be the oldest temple of Nepal. It remains a milestone in Nepali temple architecture with rich embossed works.
Nice and peace environment ❤️
The place is too historic. Must visit for history geeks. Ask pujari about the history and surrounding. The hotels and restaurants are bit expensive and food quality is also poor.
Its located on height.currently its under renovation but still it looks beautiful from there the outside scenery and everything.
Currently under reconstruction, Changu Narayan Temple is one of Nepals oldest temples. It is located in an ideal location where you can enjoy nature, local culture, people, traditions, and even Jatras on occasion. Had gud time roaming around the temple after long time. The peripheral round the temple stays ancient and chilling as before, only the unmanaged wirrs and cables are disturbing the cultural beauty of the place. Must visit place though.
Great place to for a hike or small gateway from the city crowd and hustle. The temple area particularly is under renovation. But the surrounding has a very calming and peaceful vibe to it. The view of Bhaktapur is amazing from the place. The sanitation of the surrounding is however something to be improved. It is an ideal spot for a picnic, hike or some fun time with family.
UNESCO Recorded and Historical Temple.
Changunarayan temple is the oldest temple of Nepal with written inscription dated 5th century by a Licchavi king Mandev. This place/ temple is worshipped by Hindus.. the temple is on re-construction now. If you are planning to visit for adventure this could be your options on 4-5th place but way to the temple is really worth it.. Ive posted some pictures for your comfort..
Simply magnificent!!! Built in the 5th century by the first Licchivi ruler of Kathmandu Valley, King Mandela - the temple complex is intriguing for its multitudes of smaller temples, statues, and carvings.
Very nice 👍 temple and happy file

More than 1600 years old temple. The Chagu Narayan Temple which is build by Mandev is incredibly mesmerizing art. There are more than 200 large stone where history of that time had written. And the environment around the temple is also abosultely peaceful. But unfortunately there are many small temple and other historic things isnt constructed yet, they were fall in the ground in 2015 Gorkha earthquake.

This is a very old and ancient temple of hindu god. a must watch place although it is not much celebrated like Pashupati temple at Nepal but it is never the less than a grand and old temple. all wooden work inside out the temple are simple superb.
It is oldest temple in the history of Nepal. It is in the list of World Heritage Sites. It is fine example of art and architecture. It is located at the top of the hills surrounded by a forest. People living in this area has been gifted by very good art of carving on woods and stone, we can see live example when we visit there. When i visited there i saw very limited transportation available, we had to wait long. Even though it is listed in World Heritage Site very limited people visit this place. After earth quake it was highly affected. Reconstruction is still going on. Government and Authority should put some attention to it. I recommend all the visitor to visit this place once in life.

Enlisted as one of the UNESCO world heritage sites of Nepal 🇳🇵, one of the most historically and culturally important temple and Religious site, located at a naturally refreshing point enough to provide you with full relaxation and peace of mind.... A must visit!!
The way to the temple is very exciting as you will be able to see green lush trees and enchanting hills, along the way. And when you reach the top you will feel old as the temple is so old, many houses in changunarayan are under construction and tourist population is very low. I rarely happen to see any. The native are so welcoming and just talk to them they are very friendly. As you climb upto the temple you will witness the village and people lifestyle there. Now that you have reached the top you will see changunarayan temple which date backs to 325 A.D. Just see the outer detail of the temple it is just mesmerizing. So if you happen to visit Bhaktapur Durbar Square, it is must come to the changurayan as well. It is 6 km away from Bhaktapur Durbar Square(BDS). You will get direct bus from BDS to changunarayan but goes very slow. There are few buses above so be carefull on your way back. Thank you, and happy travelling...

The oldest temple in Nepal and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, located at a beautiful hill called Changunarayan, about 1.5 hours by bus from Kathmandu. Nice place to go and come back from Kathmandu in a day, or just stay a few days at a beautiful farmhouse called Changu Farm House, 4 mins walk from the temple entrance
The far from the City rush and bad environment in a cool fresh environment at above 1500m around25_30km far from Kathmandu at bhaktapur these temple lies at northern part at top of hill. Its very beautiful in its own culture where the road are fuller with local communities. So to cut off day n some fun we can book a date to visit out with friends family and even with loved ones through buses or own vechiles .we can get bus from ratnapark bus stand easily i doesnt know quite about the fare but nearly it might be around 30_50rs.

Built by the king Mandev is the temple of Devi changu and the lord Bishnu .One of the best tourist destination place and also picnic spot makes the area worth visitng.
The temple is situated at a quick drive up the hill from Bhaktapur durbar square. The atmosphere is a lot more serene and lot fewer tourist. The temple is historic and holds a pristine place in the hearts of hindus and the community nearby. Leading up to the temple you can buy handicrafts, traditional item, souveniers, thankas etc. The choices for lunch are little low, view from top is majestic though.
Known as the oldest hindu temple of nepal, situated 6.8 km away from historical Bhaktapur durbar square. Quiet nd peaceful with loving scenery of ganesh himal. Architecturally a beautiful monument. This site was also affected by the recent earthquake. Though the temple is repaired now, side monuments and other structures of walls are still under reconstruction project which is going really slow.
One of the most important Temple for Hindu. This is very old place with its own culture and tradition. Decoration have been done by handwork, people have given very deep touch to those design part. It is situated at top of the hill, which helps you to see greenery everywhere. You can also see the rural to urban society here. Near this temple there is a Nepals first Private Musium. You can explore many this from ancient age. This not far from Kathmandu valley only 1.5 Hours from bus.
The garden near to this temple is very peaceful and has some great scenic view. Must go! Besides, the temple after the quake is pretty devastated but you still can visit to see the place as the puja ceremony is held often here. Would recommend to visit!
The way to Changunarayan is pretty amazing, its nice pitched road and the surrounding is all the green fiields, fresh air. Temple itself has a historic value so its worth going there.
