Tours are offered of this large Joseon dynasty palace & its surrounding gardens.
I got nice experience! Although it was Saturday and so busy waiting line is long, to get the ticket and then after that line again to go inside. But it’s huge place sometimes we can get some spot to sit and make a nice photos!
It’s nicer than Geongbokgung! Especially liked the simple living quarters the emperor created for himself and his immediate family.Tips: 1Be proactive in identifying the palace tour guides - they tend to leave on time without waiting for a sizable crowd. They are probably wearing hanboks, a vest or a hat; 2If the online tickets to the secret garden run out, you can try getting them onsite at the ticketing counter outside the secret garden (100 tickets are reserved for onsite purchases); 3Book your general admission tickets online to avoid the snaking queues.
Quite a nice, large palace complex thats worth a visit if you have time. If youre not into history or culture, youre not going to miss a lot. On the day of our visit, the entrance ticket was free except for access to the Secret Garden which I did not take. The place is nice & calm to visit with nice open pavilions and courtyards but thats probably every area of the palace. Ive read reviews about Secret Garden being absolutely beautiful, so if you do visit this palace, I highly recommend paying the entrance fee to the Secret Garden.
Hugeeeeeeeeee attraction. Place is very quiet and oeaceful to stroll through. Palace is well maintained and very clean. Tons of beautiful spots for photographs! Great way to soak in the culture and to have a good walk.
A beautiful tourist destination that takes you back in time. Great visit to learn about and experience Korean history.
Forget Versailles or the Forbidden City. Changdeokgung and its Secret Garden are a gem. If you visit one place in Seoul, this must be it. Best to arrive early and get the never ending courtyards for yourself. Despite repeated invasions, Korea flourished as a nation. This testimony of the Joseon dynasty is a lesson of resilience for the rest of the world. Count minimum half a day to enjoy it.
Didnt get the time to visit Secret Garden. Palace wise, its smaller than Gyeongbokgong.
The palace grounds cover a very large area. There are a lot of well maintained beautiful structures and buildings. Very cheap to enter. Information is available in English to help understand the significance of each place. I fully recommend visiting this site
Absolutely beautiful. Full of history and just fun to wander around.
One of the historical palace and landmark in Seoul.Wonderful view, the palace area is really huge, intricately beautiful architecture. We really enjoy our time here, plenty spaces to sit and relax.
Very beautiful! I recommend doing the Secret Garden tour.
This is one of the palaces in Seoul, not as well known but i personally prefer this place over Gyeongbukgung. Its smaller so more walkable and has a lot of flowers with its own garden (which u need to take a tour of to get in to, as well as the other part of the palacebut the parts u can see are very different and more modern than the Royal Palace (Gyeongbukgung).
Nice place to spend the time outside, however keep in mind you need to read about the place before visiting since the proper guidance is not available
Best if you walk in the rain. Its so tranquil and quiet (if theres not too many people)
I found this palace slightly better than its cousin Gyeongbokgung Palace! Not sure exactly why but I found wandering around very relaxing and immersive. The history is quite interesting as well.
The best palace to visit in Seoul!
Red plum blossoms are one of the most beautiful places in Seoul.
A cultural landmark that needs to be visited when in Seoul. I havent been to any of the other royal palaces in Seoul so I cant compare but we thought this place was great and not crowded (we visited a weekday in May). Ive been here before and then it was much more crowded, but even then it felt like there were plenty of space for everyone. You should probably combine this with the "Secret Garden" but unfortunately we didnt have the time. I recommend this place.
I recommend a history commentary(with commentator)All story time : at am 9:30 /pm 1:30Part stoty time : change of timeAnd You must make a reservation to watch the Secret Garden.
The place is so so big and vast. walk until leg pain. saw senior citizens walk around without any issue. You can walk to nearby place if your stamine is good such as Hanok Village and Unhyeongung Palace. Admission is free
Beautiful palace. You can stroll through it for 3000 Won or take a tour to get inside the secret garden. Most of the texts are also written in english, chinese and japanese.
A wonderful palace to visit when you come to Seoul. It is a lot less busy than Gyeongbokgung Palace which makes your visit to it seem a lot more personal and intimate. Whilst here you can marvel at the architecture of the palace and its surrounding buildings or take a stroll through the many gardens and paths or relax at the lake. There is so much to do in this place and I recommend you spend a minimum 2 hours here to fully appreciate it! Would love to come back here!
Among the palaces in Seoul this is my favorite. Its arhitecture was designed according to the land and respecting the nature and not by the architectural Confucian laws therefore more its even interesting to explore. You will also find furniture and other traces of modernization since it was adjusted so under the first Emperor of Korea (Go Jeong).
Gorgeous and really interesting to see some of the early 20th century additions to the palace. Well maintained and easy to navigate, also completely beautiful landscaping on the grounds especially with the fall foliage on full display. :)
A beautiful palace with magnificent gardens. This would be my first choice of the five palaces to visit for sheer cultural magnificence of architecture.
It was a really nice afternoon, sadly the secret garden was closed (apparently you had to pre-book tickets which we were unaware of), the sign said for covid, but I met a person the next day who said she went the same day (and possibly timeas us, so pre-book those tickets if you want to see the gardens. For the rest of it, I thought is was much more beautiful than Gyeongbokgun Palace, but it did seem a bit smaller. Well worth the visit if youre in Seoul.
Wow! I have never heard of this place. Its almost better than the grand palace. Great palace in Seoul. A real pleasant visit. Beautiful buildings. Less crowded. I would definitely recommend here. It also has a secret garden and another royal residence next door. So three places to visit
Always like visiting palaces and this is no exception. Its one of the smaller palaces in Seoul but still quite interesting to stroll around. Theres a separate section which is called the Secret Garden and theres a separate admission to that. An easy way to spend a morning or afternoon, discovering a bit about Seouls past.
Best to visit during Spring for cherry blossoms. Nearest subway is Anguk Station leave thru exit 3. Hanbok dress rental is also just across the palace.
Fall in love this palace.Several times to visit especially in Autumn and winter. You can enjoy small hiking there.Just like times slip back to the Chosenera.
I loved the palace! The main building is quite impressive, and the whole area is way less crowded that the famous one in downtown (Gyeongbeokung if I’m not wrong). It’s really quiet and peaceful, I recommend you don’t go there alone like I did as it is bigger than I thought and visiting alone is not so fun :)
Its a wonderful, must visit place! For me, its much more impressive than Gyeongbokgung Palace. I suggest you to buy the combination ticket that costs ₩10.000 (around US$10,00), because give you access to all royal palaces, and endure 3 months. The place is huge, and I advise you to go just when opens or right after lunch, because there is no restaurant inside, just a coffee shop, that serves only drinks, and you cant get out once you are in.
Beautiful and traditional palace. Lots of walking and opportunities to take lots of pictures!A lot of the palace has been recreated recently but appears to have been done authentically.Theres a lot of people dressed in traditional costumes and some will even take pictures with you.Theres a small fee to get in. About 3.500 won.
Very nice garden, better than the Main palace since it is not that crowded, also very nice spots for Hanbok Instagram Photos. The Park also feels bigger since there is more "Nature". The Secret Garden is only accessable with a Guide. Tip: head First to the Garden entrance, since you need Join a group which leaves about every hour. Tour takes about 40min and can be difficult for unfit people.
Very run-of-the-mill palace with no real rare or unique features. Not kept in very good condition. The grounds were overgrown, the walkways were eroded, and much of the paint and wood of the palace were worn and splintered. On the bright side, admission is only $0.90, so it is it worth a quick walk through the grounds.
Well preserved, elegant palatial architecture of the Choson Dynasty with beautiful gardens, designated as a UNESCO heritage preservation site.Loved the secluded Garden tour which is led as guided tours at specific appointment times (Korean, English, Japanese, Chinese languages available according to their brochure). We took the guided Korean tour which was most informative and brought the history to life. The guide got a heartfelt applause.
If you are looking for a place to sight see whole in South Korea I recommend coming here. I recommend getting the pass to see all of the palaces and doing the Secret Garden Tour, the pass for all of it is only ₩10,000! They have different Secret Garden Tours at different times for different languages. Sometimes they have locals willing to tour guide for free. I personally just explored the palaces by myself so I could take my time and take pictures. Some entrances to other palaces are located inside this palace as well as the secret garden tour. The secret garden tour takes about an hour to finish and you will have to stay with the tour guide on that tour. You also will get to see some locals dressed in traditional clothing walking around.1
It is a UNESCO. The garden is impressive and it is well explained. The palace was a bit of disappointment, it was just the same, no treasure, ... the garden was much better but you must purchase 2 tickets 1 for the palace and 1 for the garden. You cant enter the garden without a guide which is a pain. Do not forget on hot days to bring water, there is a shop where you can buy drinks but only 2. 1 at the palace and 1 at the garden. The garden has a beautiful view. You can take amazing pictures there and you can hardly believe you are in the middle of a city!
Extremely well maintained palace. The walk aways are labeled so it is easy for someone to tour the whole place using the instructions and signs. Secret Garden is a limited experience. Only a set number of people can tour at once which make the experience a lot better.
The palace is a marvelous piece of history. The secret garden tour is a definite must have as this particular part of the palace is amazingly well kept and picturesque. I would recommend booking it a week before online so you do not get disappointed.
Amazing... I was lucky enough to visit it in spring time and it is beautiful. The blooming trees and bushes, green canopies and amazing architecture all combined to make a must see palace. One of my favorites so far :)
Best palace in Seoul, with the secret garden. Buildings were placed in harmony with the nature and not in a row.Only 100 people are allowed to visit the secret garden per hour... It really worths the wait for the landscapes and the guide we got.Choose the ticket at 10000 won if you plan to see the other palaces and the secret garden.
Great palace to visit and the tour of the secret garden is well worth it. English language tours seems to be on the half hour throughout the day. Also the last Wednesday of the month is a cultural day so is free entry to the palace (secret garden still requires a ticket)
Lovely time learning ancient Korean history. Its so big. Some tourists dress in period costumes, walk around, & take selfies. Its a fun & educational experience. Its important to learn history.
I found this park even more interesting than the more popular Gyeongbokgung Palace. It has many beautiful gardens and similar old architecture. Inside the area is a restricted area which you can access by booking a tour. They run frequent tours in their local language, but just several times per day in the English language.
Visiting the palace near its closing time seems not a bad idea. No crowds and you can take beautiful pictures to your heart contents. This palace is more well preserved and theres more to see compared to the more famous one.
Nice place to visit. The garden is so huge, need you 2-4 hrs of walking so at least you can see and take more pictures. Go there by early morning in week-end bec most visitors come in between 10am to 2pm. Theres no clogging of visitors at the garden bec.they hold and go for few minutes at the gate.you have the option to buy your ticket at the entrance of the palace or at the gardens entrance. If you rent and wear their traditional dresses, your entrance is free of charge at the palace gate. You can rent the dress at the opposite side of the street from various shops.
It is a traditional korean palace. The entrance fee is 3,000원. There are a lot of traditional buildings and trees. I would recommend going here during spring or fall because in the summer there are not many places to rest. Also you can go to secret gardens for 1,000원 or another palace for 3,000원 but if you want to visit those as well I recommend buying ticket for the places you want to visit at once as there is a discount. I recommend going here when the weather is nice.
Beautiful palace with such rich history. And lots and lots to see!!! It’s amazing to think how this place was built. And all the little details that went into each piece. Nothing was too small to over look. And the secret garden tour is a must! From beautiful gardens to ponds to a little retreat area for the king. It’s such a shame that the Japanese saw fit to turn this place into a zoo. Tying to ruin it. But so glad that this place was restored once again despite Japanese efforts.
Its amazing to have two palaces plus a secret garden tucked into the heart of a capital city. If youre interested in history, this is worth a visit. Its worth paying extra to do the secret garden tour. When we visited the garden tour didnt have any guides, which seemed to be the exception. For us, that was more fun as we could explore at our own pace. We didnt want to do this, but many people rented traditional Korean outfits and wore them while exploring the palace.
