Chandragiri Fort, Kasargod District, Kerala. There is another one with same name in Andhra Pradesh. It is built in the 17th century on the banks of Chandragiri river. Its about at a distance of 60 and 90 kilometers from the main cities Mangalore and Kannur respectively. Those who like visiting places, history students and school students usually come here. By understanding the history of this region one needs nearly one and half to two hours to cover this region
There is no entry fee,And the time is allowed there till 5 pm, It is a very old and ancient fort. Visitors come here in ordinary
Chandragiri Fort is situated at distance of just 1Km from Melparambu Jn on the Kanhangad - Kasaragod state highway. The Fort is maintained by the State Archaeology Department, Kerala. This Fort and the renowned Bekal Fort were built by the same ruler Sivappa Nayak centuries back. Chandragiri Fort is situated near the confluence of river Chandragiri with the Arabian Sea. Highlight of this Fort is the mind-blowing view from the top of the Fort that covers the mighty Chandragiri River, the longest flowing river in Kasaragod, slowly approaching its destination, the Arabian Sea. You can also see old Thalangara harbour and Malik Deenar Mosque from the Fort. It is said that there were secret passages from the Fort that connects directly to the river and from there to the sea and canon points installed at multiple locations in the Fort. The Fort receives very less footfalls due to lack of publicity, maintenance and facilities for tourists. The Fort timings are from 0900AM to 0500PM and it will be closed on Mondays.
Very poor maintenance. The view from the top of the Fort is amazing.
An ancient fort built a few centuries back. Its open for public, no ticket purchase required.. Fort is in good shape, but full of grass inside.
Its an empty Fort with some good views
Very nice fort less maintained
In contrast with bekal fort, this fort is not at all maintained. Even you cannot complete the circular walk. From one side of the fort there is a view of the bekal river. Not a suggested visiting place.
Due to covid lockdown this fort is closed now. No one was their for maintenance, cleaning etc
One of the historical place in Kerala. We will get a good view of chandragiri river meeting Arabian sea.
The place has only the walls standing ... Great view from the top ... Very calm and secluded place
The Chandragiri Fort is situated at the banks of the Payaswini river. The high point of the Fort offers a spectacular view of the meandering Chandragiri River joining the cerulean Arabian Sea. It is also one of the wonderful places to savor a golden sunset. The Fort is said to have been built in the 17th century by Shivappa Nayak. The Chandragiri boat club offers boat trips to the Chandragiri River, nearby Islands and palm groves.Tourist can avail the services of speed boat rides, houseboat cruises and island camping and wildlife tours in the surroundings. The local fishermen can arrange a ride on the backwaters and trip to nearby islands in country boats. Rides start near the Chandragiri Bridge. For more details view ramsansview channel
Not sure what to rate, the gate was locked and parking wasnt available for our car as for bikers there was enough of space. From the exterior the fort looked good. Does not look like a famous place as not much visitors.
A tiny fort built by Shivappa Nayaka. The entry resembles Chitradurga fort but not properly maintained. Visit for good views only
A nice place to take photos. Parking is all the way down, so you need to climb a few stairs to get up. This place does feel like it is wheelchair accessible but you need to push a lot as the slopes are pretty steep. No tickets needed for entry.
Beautiful fort on top of a small hill. Once you reach top, you will get a stupendous view of Chandragiri River. There is a watch tower on top and a lot of free area to roam around.
Two star becoz of very bad maintained look like forestWhat an amazing fort but nobody consider that place becoz of poor maintaining#nice place evening vibe area#onece u can definitely visit this area
Serene place with scenic beauty...very calm and quiet..view of Chandragiri harbour railway bridge and the Arabian sea in the background is awesome.
beautiful fort with beautiful viewsbadly in need of maintainince beautiful view of chandragiri river and the sea
The fort is very small and not maintained. But good for a small break. Offers good views.
Beautiful and calm the sites needs a good makeover when it comes to broke walls and overgrown grasses
Nice place to visit for a one day trip. Also visitors are not allowed on Monday.
A reminiscence of Vijayanagara Yadava Emperors from 11th Century!!Right time for visiting is evening sunset to enjoy the beauty of chandragiri river and rail bridge:)
Its one of the oldest Fort located in Kasaragod. We can watch awful scenery from there. Can see beautiful views of river and bridge from there. Its on of the avoided place by the tourism department. But now its renovating a little for some reason. If they maintained it well we can get a good place for relaxing. Its actually on of the important historical place in Kerala. Its one of the least visited Fort in Kerala.Cleanliness. 3*
Its an old fort and you can get some very good view overlooking the river, bridge and the sea. Its quiet and unfrequented during the mornings and can be enjoyed in all its calm. Wish there were more facilities there for children etc.
Best preserved fort in Kasaragod after Bekal...Beautiful view of Chandragiri River, Thalangara railway bridge and Arabian sea.
The fort is situated on a hill facing the mouth of Chandhagiri river. The fort surrounding has been beautified and maintenance of the fort has been done. The fort is rectangular in shape with a well in the southern end cover with undergrowth. One small watch tower has been built on the western side giving a view of the river mouth and the sea.
Small fortress with good view. Board at the fort with write up on the forts history is needed.
The fort has an eventful history. In earlier days, the river was considered to be the border of two powerful kingdoms - Kolathunadu and Thulunadu. When Thulunadu was captured by the Vijayanagara Empire, the Kolathunadu kings lost the Chandragiri region to them. During the decline of the Vijayanagara Empire, the area was administratively looked after by the Keladi Nayakas of Ikkeri. When the Vijayanagara Empire fell in the 16th century, Vengappa Nayaka declared independence. Later Shivappa Nayaka took over the reins. He built a chain of forts of which Chandragiri is part.
Very nice place for time passing at the evening on weekends.
It is an interesting place to go if you are in Bekal. Some of the views of the sea are nice. There is not much information available at the site-I would have liked to learn a bit more of the history. It is worth going if you are in Bekal, though avoid going mid day as it gets very hot and there arent many shaded areas.
Nice place but basic needs must be improved like drinking water, toilets ets...
Under kerala govt archeological dept..a historical structure..Located in a remote area.. too less visitors..Some 3 4 km away from NH 66..can be maintqined better.. all vehicles can reach there.. a good parking facility available.
Good place , good view of sunset and ocean from the fort .Peaceful.Fort is near to chembrika beach.Well maintained, clean, worth visiting once.
Awesome view of chadragiri river , harbour , railway bridge &arabian sea...Need more improvment
An historical place with awesome sceneries. You can see the Chandragiri river joining the sea from here
Chandragiri fort is another fort in kasargod after kumble fort it has some good view where you can see the river enter into that sea.
Its on the outskirts of KasargodSmall fortBut not big as Bekal Fort
Its a small fort but worth visiting. In a small climb you get a magnificient view. A beautiful sunset spot.Down the fort on the bank of Payaswini river, beautiful kiosk and benches, see the photos. On Mela Paramba junction, the way that leads to this fort, on the highway, there is Udupi Restaurant. Decent food and coffee there.
7km far from kasargode town, very old fort, historical place, must visit, good sunset view, near to chandragiri River and Arabian sea,
I think the place is under development currently. We visited in Jan 2018. Once developed with lawn its a nice place to have a look at once. Fantastic view of Arabian sea was found from the top view point. For now its a dry place. The pics I have posted gives perfect look for my review
It is a very quiet and peaceful place to spend a fine evening. Being situated beside the chandragiri river, the view of sunset here is really beautiful. But there is no shops or towns nearby. It is not maintained well.
The fort is almost in ruins. No one to take care of it. Not many tourists around, thats a plus point. The trees and the bushes around need to be trimmed to a good view.
A hidden gem in route between Kasargod and Bekal fort! Finally worth visiting. The views are awesome and best of all, almost no crowd here!
Quiet Fort with a cool breeze - best visited during evening time
This historic monument is require acquisition from the government authorities. Because its almost in extinct stage. Beautiful view from the fort is mesmerizing.
Chandragiri fort is located where Payaswini (Chandragiririver meets the Arabian Sea in Kasaragod district of northern Kerala. It is about 10 kms north of Taj Bekal Resort.Built by Shivappa Nayak in 17th century. It is very inspiring to know that this brave man was contemporary of Shivaji Maharaj and was ruling over coastal Karnataka and north Kerala and also built Manglore & Bekal forts. Initiated an innovative system of taxation.Could not see the fort interiors because was closed on Sun evening but there is a commanding view from just outside the gate. Kaland-Kasargod railway line, Chandragiri River meeting the Arabian sea, Kasaragod harbour & town embedded in the green carpet of coconut & betel nut (suparitrees make an awesome sight
Lesser known fort of Kasargod. Much smaller than the Bekal fort but has breath taking panaromic view of Kasargod. Not very well maintained, but a great place to check out if you have the time.
Old fort and nice view but maintained well by government. But very nice place for photography, amazed by view of the fort, very big open space within the fort.Very nice beach and river view found from the fort.
Truly a lone fort on one side of Kasaragod coast, accessible by road, but the road leading from main road towards the fort needs some effort to reach.. Worth the drive to get a panoramic view around the fort of the river meeting the sea and lush greenery around the palace. Some developments are required
