Champa Garden Restaurant - Laotian restaurant in Redding, United States
The food was good. Service was better.Ambiance was lacking. I will go back for the service as long as the food stays good.
So delicious, as Lao food should be. I look forward to coming back to try other dishes.
It took long research on what restaurant to visit while passing Redding, Ca, came to a conclusion Champa Garden would be a good match . Arrived around 1pm and although not so busy many had walked in after. The young woman that greeted us was very nice and allowed us to choose our table. We’re a table of 2 but didn’t want to sit at a small table because I knew I would be ordering a few dishes. I scoped out the menu the night before so I knew what I wanted… The Lao style sausage w a side of sticky rice, papaya salad and a noodle dish. I mean the sausage is uncommon in my area so I had to get it, can’t remember the last time I enjoyed a good papaya salad and we opted for the good ol’ pad se ew.Lao style sausage – I love that each piece was fried to perfect crispiness, the overall flavor was amazing – you can taste the lemongrass, galangal, chilies, cilantro and it paired well with the sweet chili sauce.Papaya salad – so addicting with every bite you can’t help but want to eat more as you fight the spiciness and tears from the heat. I usually add a couple of Thai chilies to my papaya salad but I’m glad I said just 1, Never had papaya salad with a side of rice noodles but I really enjoyed it and will definitely start pairing my salad with it from now on.Pad Se ew – I appreciate people that can adapt to their surroundings for instance, pad se ew typically uses gailan (Chinese Broccoliinstead they use American broccoli and carrots. The flavor was all there and tasted delicious!
Great food but would love to see them upgrade the dining area and get more help
Reliable food poisoning. 3 for 3.Reported.Avoid unpopular dishes that arent fried.
My fav Thai place in town. Tai spicy pad-tai and a tai match tea. Prices great food always leave satisfied
Ordered two noodle soups - beef pho and Lao’s vermicelli. They tasted delicious and in good portion, but got so thirsty afterwards (seems added lots of MSG in the soup, thats why the soup tasted so good…)
Restaurant turned down guests even when there was an hour to closing time stating they have other guests to attend. Many popular and customer focussed restaurants accept guests and serve till their kitchen closure time. Management should look at improving the customer service and capabilities not to turn down customers. Losing customers is losing business.
Ordered togo, worst Thai food I have ever had in California... Very bland and portion is tiny for a 15 dollar entree.
Although we needed to wait 45 minutes to get our table, it was worth it!! We came over Labor Day weekend and it was extremely busy! If is hard to find a place for a party of 7 which half of them kids. The service was amazing and the food was over the top! Everything we’ve order was amazing (besides the coconut shrimp which was just okay)… kids and adults finished everything! You can tell that this is an authentic Thai food. The chefs are family members that knows the job!I would highly recommend!#LKTG
We ate here on Labor Day weekend with kids and teenagers. We ordered many dishes and all of them were great including the Pad Thai, papaya salad and Tom Ka. If you love Thai food, you won’t be disappointed.
Ive been away from Redding for 5+ years, tried a lot of "good" Pho all around the east and west coast, and Champa is still better than all of it. If youre looking for Pho in Redding, you cant go wrong here.
Food is all great here! The sticky rice and mango has flower flavor!!!! Defo a recommended Thai place!!
This place was delicious! My Bf and I were in town camping and decided to get some food. We ordered the avocado roll, papaya salad Lao style, some curry, and noodles. They have a lot of veggie/vegan options. Everything was very tasty! Would recommend.
This place is so good!! One of the best Thai restaurants I’ve been to. Their samosas and Laos vermicelli are to die for!
29 is so good, everyone should try it!!
Nice little restaurant in a retail plaza surrounded by plenty of other retail and restaurant options. This Thai restaurant offers a few other options including vietnamese pho and some Chinese dishes.Very authentic dishes that also offer proper levels of Thai spice!!
Such a great place to have Thai food! My kids loved the noodles and it was delicious! We had to wait because we went while it was busy but everyone said it was worth the wait after receiving the food! It was my wife’s first time trying Thai food and it was amazing! Although most of the recipes use egg we got a vegetarian option for my wife because of her very sensitive egg allergy and they were able to provide food that was good and didn’t touch anything containing egg which was wonderful! Really great place! I will say that the food isn’t really spicy but is very very flavorful. 10/10 would go again, pleasant experience that has made my family interested in eating more Thai food! :)
Great ambience, great food.I deducted one star because it was not spicy enough, they just sprinkled chilli flakes for getting the spice level.
We were so happy to find this place while staying the night in Redding California. The food was amazing and the staff was awesome! We had the chicken pad Thai, fresh garden wraps with delicious peanut sauce, Curry and mango with rice for dessert. DELICIOUS!We have this marked on the map for a place to go next time we come through town.
Staff was very nice. However, I’m use to the food at Thai Hut on Hartnell. This doesn’t hold a candle in taste, value and selection. I hate writing bad reviews but there was no flavor in my two entrées.
Food is so good my wife loves the pho and I love the curry but the level 5 spicy is not very spicy. The staff is very nice but the water guy asked us ever 5 mins if we need water it became a buy bothersome. If it is busy it can get a bit crowded at the entrance and people begin to really pack in.
Place hit the spot for pho. Broth is good garlicy just how I like it. Would def come here again. The other one I tried was racha which is not bad either I mean for a bowl of pho for $9 you cant go wrong but portions are small. Here for $14 you get not that much bigger portion but then again there is a large option. Ive gone to over 100 pho spots in my life so Im not no amateur.
Probably the best pad Thai I’ve had in a long time. Some unique dishes like mango fried rice and some go-to dishes like drunken noodles were all great.
If you need healthy options: ask for Thai Salad with no peanut sauce, and youll get a plate with balanced protein/vegetables with zero carb and zero sodium. Im so happy this is an option!
Delicious food, friendly service, would definitely eat here again! Fresh spring rolls with shrimp were so good! I had Pad Ma Kuer (eggplant with basil, bell pepper, carrot, onionand tofu. The eggplant, veggies, and sauce were SO delicious. The tofu was very chewy so next time I will ask for chicken instead. Other than that everything was amazing!
We ordered vegetarian pineapple fired rice and got with Chinese sausageShe noted as veg option and forgot to mention to the chefBeware all vegetarians before eating anything hereAsk once again after the food is served
Great food and great service. The price for some of the dishes are a bit much though - I dont understand why youd have to pay extra for rice while getting a curry dish. All in all, this is my favorite spot for Thai food in Redding.
The worst service. BEWARE all .. I ordered pineapple fried rice and mentioned am vegetarian and she clearly noted the same. When They served me there was Chinese sausages in that.Me and my son had few bites too then I noticed something and asked the server she said it’s Chinese sausage. What kind of restaurant and service is this. One of the worst experience in any Thai restaurant we had.
Higher prices but overall good taste not the traditional spicy Im used to when eating Thai but this place says its Laotian too so idk. Not enough protein in the pad Thai seems like places always do that. I enjoyed how nice the servers are there and will go back when I want to spend money eating out.
One word, WOW! Seriously the best Thai food weve had in this area so far. Maybe its because its a blend of Thai and Lao cuisine ? Whatever the reason, its so delicious! This was our first time eating there, and based on the few dishes we tried, we will definitely be going back. Especially since they have such great hours, open late everyday. Closed on Tuesday I think.Small place, really good service.
Tasty food. Good service. Husband enjoyed his. Good on the noodles and the sauce. I liked the sauce on mine, but not the best for me regarding the fried tofu — bit over fried — chewy spongy.Maybe a bit more on the expensive side versus other Thai places we’ve eaten. It’s tough to judge these days plus we are road tripping.Overall, we’d eat here again. :)
Friendly staff and great food. I ordered Lao noodle and fry vegetables. The surprise bonus was the fry banana with ice cream (F.B.I), it was a great price and an awesome finish.
Seems to be a popular restaurant. Staff super nice and even though they were busy our food came quickly. We ordered: coconut shrimp, wonton soup and Lao Vermicelli soup & and everything was very good.
I have updated my review to reflect my latest experience. I have been eating lunch at Champa Garden for ages, it was a great place to eat lunch, especially for one person. This is no longer the case since they decided to do away with their lunch menu due to "covid". I cant really say why covid has anything to do with a lunch menu, call me pedantic. Now the same variety will set you back 50 bucks instead of 15.
You gotta try the Champa special fried rice—look at that juicy shrimp! The rice is lusciously tossed in a Tom Yum style dressing and the tomatoes add the perfect umami balance.Paired with fresh spring rolls starter and noodle soup, it’s a perfect way to warm the tummy on a cold winter’s day.The staff are so friendly too.
Pretty good Tai & Lao food. We have been here two years ago, and this time, my wife suggested here, and we order from the phone, and pick up from curbside.
Was a little skeptical at first about this restaurant. However, glad we went and tried. This place is good. This was our first time trying Laos cuisine. Similar to Thai but definitely had a unique taste. The Pho was great as well! Our appetizer came in just a tad bit salty but the rest was awesome. Recommend if you wanna try something different.
Solid Thai food, but what I really loved is how well they followed the health and safety measures. Curbside pickup only and all their employees wore masks. For those calling in, keep calling if you dont get through during open hours--the employees are in and out of the building with orders, but they will pickup!
Probably the worst Pad Thai I’ve ever had. It tastes like noodle with ketchup. It is not Thai style at all. No peanut crunch inside and the sauce is totally not authentic. I waited 40 minutes for only ONE PAD THAI but the server told us it will just take 20 minutes to finish cooking our order. I came to try it bc of the recommendations on yelp and google map. However this meal was a mess. So I want to tell my real feelings and thoughts here for everyone to consider before you decide to try this place.
This restaurant is a hidden gem. Wow I’m pretty blown away by how authentic and delicious the food tastes here. Being a Thai person, I can guarantee that the dishes taste pretty close to home. Great service and menu option.
Food is amazing, seriously the best thai food iv had in a long time and soo cheap. They are 5 stars for a reason and they earned it.The thai tea is strong and delicious like it should be and the curry is full of flavor but not overwhelming or spicy.
So good!! First time here, will be back soon. Very flavorful and fresh. Thai tea was amazing! Slightly spicy and sweet. Pad gragow... Yes Im sure it will be a favorite! Im a fan. My friends know what they are doing. Salad was pretty minimal but good. Im try something for dinner next time.. thinking about a curry dish. The shrimp Rangoon was amazzz!
Our family takes annual road trips to SoCal from Washington. Happy to say that this place will always be a pit stop for us as we were very impressed with the flavor, variety, and price. Just superb! If you get there early in the day, you can order the khow paek noodles.. not many Lao/Thai restaurants have it available but Champas version is absolutely delicious. They give you plenty to share as well. The pho also needs to be shouted out because their soup base is so good that you can eat it without having to add any hoisin sauce. The large bowl is enough to feed 3 kiddos or one really hungry hippo! Truth. We love Champa Garden!
Amazingggg food! The server was so friendly, place was very clean, really high quality food and ambience yet very affordable. We were 4 of us, we ordered all vegetarian dishes - basil fried rice, musaman curry with sticky rice (yummm sticky rice ^_^), drunken noodles with tofu, large Sake, two iced coffees and mango sticky rice for dessert. Each dish was really tasty and wasnt missing anything.Would definitely recommend!!
It was very delicious food, they were short staffed and very busy but they still managed to get us our drinks and food pretty quickly. Everything came out just the way we ordered it and it was good quality food.
Good VEGAN options :However, Make sure you specify NO Oyster Sauce and NO Fish sauce. A variety of veggies were very fresh and cooked perfect; Not mushy or drowned in sauce. Delicious avocado fresh rolls with peanut sauce. Quick service. Busy small restaurant. Definitely will be on my list of go to restaurants in Redding.
Good laoation/Thai restaurant. Decent service, clean restaurant; our food was served quickly and hot - its crazy how rare that is these days. Loved the Pad Thai and the Thai Tea is legit. Definitely highly recommend giving this place a try.
Good service, comfortable environment, good flavor on all the dishes that we tried. We order Loas chicken larb, beef pho, vegetable pad ke mo n yellow curry chicken. They were all yummy. We stopped here last year n it was so good. This year we decided to eat here again in our road trip too n flavor still memorable n taste. Price is reasonable. Give this place a try if your passing by u wont be disappoint it.
Amazing service. Superb food. Great atmosphere. Highly recommend!!! Dont forget to get a Thai Tea and Sticky Rice W/ Mango.
