This protected area has forests that support some of the river basins that provide water to Panama City and Panama Canal operations. Through its land passes the Camino Real from the colonial era that went from Panama City to Nombre de Dios and then Portobelo.

Beautiful beach and clear water in Portobelo, Panama
The access road is full of potholes, but once you get to the emberá village it is like going back in time 500 years. These are authentic living Indians. It seems they have not changed from the conquistador times. Very kind, generous, humble, happy people. We loved our visit. This was our highlight in Panamá.
A great experience. One that deserves another visit
No tracks available for casual tourists, but very nice Anam ranger offered to book a guided visit another day, government must invest in this national park to attract more visitors and increase environmental awareness, Colon deserves it
