Cetobriga Roman Ruins - Archaeological museum in Setubal, Portugal
nice site of what was once a very large salted fish factory. the site is pretty well preserved and there are good informational signs. a guided tour is also available. would give more stars, but overall the site is just so small. taking a very slow leisurely pace, it only takes about 20mins. there is a port-o-potty on site, and some parking. wifi is intermittent, so bring cash to pay just in case they cant get connection for credit cards. the road to the ruins is like a little off-road trek, and you can see all the people clamming in the flats. whats nice is you can drive up to the ruins, park, and explore the area for free. only the actual ruins site, behind a gate, costs.
Way overpriced for what it is. 15 minutes visit for 6 euro.
Very well presented, not too big.
Historia en un paraje espectacular. Merece la pena.
Not much to see, overpriced and overrated.
Price is outrageous for a 5 minute walk of ruins
Do not try to access with a bicycle its difficult as the road is very bad and cars passing by from next to you
The guided tour was fantastic!
Amazing ruins of a Roman production site for Garum. The tour guides are knowledgeable and lively. SPQR, citizen!
Nothing special but worth a visit when you are in the area
Absolutrly fabulous site. One of the major commercial centers of the Roman Empire. Conquered in 136 B.C. conimbriga was named Oppidum, and the road connected Cimbra (Aeminiumand Tomar (SelliumPortugal. The ruins were "rediscovered" in 1899 but serious archaeological restoration only began in the 1930s. This is an ongoing endeavor and a fabulous visit. There is also a well developed museum with excelkent displays on site. It is a BIG site so be prepared for some walking.
Super. Clean and really interesting.
Ruínas ainda a serem descobertas contudo podiam estar mais bem preservados o espaços circundantes. Maus acessos.Compensação pela simpatia das funcionárias.
Very interesting archeological site. Theres a boardwalk, so walking is easy. Its handicap-accessible. It cost 6 or 7 euros per adult with discounts for kids and elderly people. If you take your time and read everything, itll take around 1 hour to see everything.
Impressive
Vale a visita
Nice ruins of old Roman ruins. Well described on the signs around the cite. Can really recommend it. A liite bit of road bit well woth it. Takes max 1h to view the site.
Great views, especially at the end of the day. I recommend it highly
Beautiful place...calm and relaxing. Nothing there apart from the ruins but the view is amazing.
Interesting place
Historical ruins. Interesting, plenty of explanations about the history and what you are seeing. Its not too big and the entrance is paid. However theres a site still not open to the public with excavations in progress. The road to reach the ruins is dirt and only fits one car in some places. Recommended to drive slowly specially around bends.
Expensive
Amazing 😍
Its good but ticket is not worth.
Short but very interesting tour. Guides are very friendly and fluent in english. The abandoned boats on the beach near the ruins are also recommendable.
Beautifully hidden at the end of a rocky path. Lovely view, worth the bikeride. Loved the fact that the entrance fee for hikers and bikers was 2 euros cheaper than the entrance fee if you come by car. Best way to preserve the tranquility.
Great experience for adults and kids
A very interesting site. The most important salted fish factory in all Roman Empire, you can see where they worked, bathed, died and even where Roman tourists ised to go. I found it amazing especially because tjere is a mix of Roman and Christian culture when the latter was not yet the official religion. There are so many ruins under the sand dunes yet to uncover. Amazing.
The guide was very nice and helpful
Ancient history is always fascinating. Unfortunately not so ancient ship wrecks litter the beach.
Nice small archaeological site, easy to walk around, very interesting: it used to be an island
The Romans built the first factory in Portugal at this site salting and drying cod fish, exporting the finished product all along the Mediterranean Sea. There skills in building and planning using Sea water is astounding.
A trip in history
What a find... Just happened to drive by and found this place... Only 2 other ppl here... 1st century Roman fish salting business... 2 min from ferry
Great opportunity to learn about the Roman Empire and its footprint in Portugal.
Nice site, can see in «1 hour. Much of it not protected. Much being eroded into the bay as we speak. Shame Portugal should value the history more...
