Seems bit neglected and uncared. Very few animals a tiger, hippo, rhino and few others but higher number of birds were remarkable. Disappointed with the management team as they charge higher fee. The charge on children playing items were more higher than the time and quality.

Honest Review! It has changed alot than it was 2 years ago..The zoo is wonderful place to visit with friends and family and a typical park vibe environment. The ticket price for adult is 200rs and theres a discount for students & childrens above some height measurement.Overall it is great.. also theres a separate place for bengal tiger which i find wonderful. The major drawback was with the Elephant..I would advise the zoo keeper to give the elephant some water. I saw the elephant is chained most of the time when they arent walking the animal. And he has no water to drink and the animal seemed really bored. With a humanity heart please do something about it.You can take food inside the premises. Please dont feed the animals tho! I saw alot of people throwing away their food to animal for their reaction and awe!

A very nice zoo with lots of Asian animals. Fairly clean and there was an elephant who roamed around that you could touch and feed.Small free play area with swings and a teeter totter - also a larger paid area with rides we did not use.

One of the fun places in Lalitpur to spend your weekend with friends or family. Its not just for kids, but adults too can enjoy. Apart from observing animals and birds, you can also enjoy boating or simply sit and relax. Kids will definitely have fun on a sunny day. There are facilities like drinking water, proper dustbins, benches to sit and bathroom. The labeling for animals and birds is done well in both English and Nepali language.Their ticket is, however, expensive in my opinion for a zoo visit. Their toilet is not well managed. There was no hand soap in the basin outside toilets. Canteen had expensive menu and it would be better to bring your own food.

Its a very good place to take your kids, and to have fun yourself too. But since it is one of the very few places in Kathmandu to chill out, it becomes over-crowded in weekends. I wont go there on holidays.

1. We need a bigger zoo. In the country, only one zoo is so congested, and residential buildings are at the side. If students from two schools come then, we can Except for the horrendous situation there.2. The entry fee is Rs 200, I dont know how practical it is for all people. (I am happy to pay that)3. Infrastructure is the weakest among the Asian zoo.4. Overall, animals are taken good care of. I hope, some other animal who was there before will also be kept.

Definitely a good place to visit nor only with kids but any age group. There are less animals high price in comparison to earlier visit however I find it reasonable. For boat safari you need to pay extra which is also the quite impressive. You can get great offer on the occasion of Bhoto Jatra. (75 rupees per person today)

In 1995, Government of Nepal entrusted the management of Nepal’s Central Zoo, the only zoo in Nepal, located at Jawalakhel in the Kathmandu Valley to NTNC for 30 years. Established as a private zoo in 1932 by the late Rana Prime Minister Juddha Samsher, it came under the ownership of Government of Nepal after the political changes of 1950 and remained under the management of various government departments before it’s management was handed over to NTNC on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee Birthday Celebration of the Late Majesty King Birendra Bir Bikram Shah in December 1995.The Trust aims to develop the Central Zoo as a center for ex-situ wildlife research and conservation education. The Central Zoo, with an area of about 6 ha., provides shelter to a total of 942 individual mammal, bird, fish and reptile of 127 species. It also serves as recreational center for the visitors. Central Zoo uniquely serves as a historical cultural site for diverse groups of people.Over one million visitors come to enjoy the displays at the Central Zoo annually. The main source of income has been the revenue collected from the entry ticket sales. With an aim of generating public awareness and participation in nature and wildlife conservation, the Central Zoo has been successfully running a special membership based program called the “Friends of Zoo” (FOZwith a network of schools in Kathmandu Valley. The animal management unit is improving and enriching the enclosures to provide better habitats for the zoo animals and are now in a better situation with the operation of a recently established “Animal Hospital”. New displays, of national and international species, are often added in order to educate and to introduce the visitors to the different wild species from within the country and abroad. Increasingly the Central Zoos role in wildlife rescue, release and rehabilitation is being recognized as an indispensible role for enhancing the wildlife national responsiveness capacity of the country, especially with growing incidents related to problem animal management, animal emergency, animal shelter and refuge, disease among others.Fees at the Central ZooTicket Type:Rates (NRs)Nepali nationalsAdult :NRs 200Student :NRs 135Children (from 4-12 years) :NRs 75Senior Citizen (above 65 years) :NRs 100SAARC nationalsAdult :NRs 500Children(from 4-12 years) :NRs 250Foreign nationalsAdult :NRs 1000Children (from 4-12 years) :NRs 500Filming (per day):Video and documentary filming :NRs 25,000Feature filming :NRs 40,000

We had a fun day at the zoo. We could not believe the large selection of native animals. The zoo had a very relaxed feeling with all the greenery. We actually saw the cobra drink water. The animals were very active. Nice cages except the elephant. Felt bad for him chained to a pole with only about 6 inches to move. Other than that a 5 star day.

I vividly remember the trips our school used to take us here when we were kids. Comparing that memory to how it is today i can say that the zoo has dowmgraded itself. Not much addition of animals have been done , many of the animals that were there few years ago arent there now. The entertainment park is little maintained and has lesser no of operating machines than there were then.Despute all this backlash i think the place is still a descent hangout place for families to stroll around on a holiday with their KIDS. Addition of entertainment centre seems a great initiative.

great place to visit if you want to have fun as well as accumulate knowledge at the same time. There are various species here. You can find the detailed information about the animals in the hoarding board. The place is accessible from any part of the Kathmandu valley. I would definately recommed this place if you are looking for somewhere to visit during holidays.

This Zoos is necessary because they unite and educate the community, providing an understanding of the interdependence of animals and their habitats, and conduct conservation programs of animals in the wild, including breeding programs to reintroduce extinct and endangered species back into their natural environment.

It is the only zoo in Kathmandu. There are local animals, such as Tiger, Gharial, Red Panda, Blue Bull, and Rhinoceros, as well as animals found abroad, such as Hippopotamus, Ostrich, and Gibbon. It is nice to see different animals at one place, but their condition is not good; there should be more facilities in their enclosure. There are people who come to this place for picnic which I think dont think is good. It causes more waste. I think the management should improve the living conditions of the animals and make stricter laws for visitors who shout at animals and try to give them food.

Would definitely recommend this place to go with your kids. I went here after decades and I didnt find this place as I had imagined. Construction work was going on and I felt that nothing has improved in the last 10 years or so. But definitely a fun place to walk with kids, play games, enjoy on the park and boating is the most. There is not a good restaurant inside the zoo though. I wish this place was maintained more.

Place to visit for children. Theyll be able to see the real animals and birds that theyve been studying in books and watching in TV.I would suggest not to visit during the weekend. Its super crowded. The cages are very small for few animals and birds. Its disheartening to see them. This place seriously need maintenance. The entrance charge is so high. Student discount available. Why dont the people in charge use the money for the maintenance!

Since it is a purposeful entertainment area, Jawalakhel Zoo is one and only Zoo in Nepal. All Nepalese mustve visited here since their childhood,it is a major spot for recreational activities a child could ask for. There are various animals however the sanctuary isnt quite maintained as it shouldve been kept as a part of national treasure. It is a property where Government of Nepal has authority over, however the place is only managed but not updated be it from proper management to conservatory methods for animals inside the zoo. The system still falls out of place , but the zoo is just managed for recreational purpose. The place is eventful due to greenery and realaxing water spouts and ponds. Also, childrens enjoy visiting the premises for various purpose.Located inside the premises of Jawalakhel, Lalitpur, Besides Jawalakhel Football Ground .Ticket 💸: Entrance varies accordingly , adult rate is 350 nepali citizen , For children its Rs. 100Rates are varied accordingly to foreign affairs.Location📍: Jawalakhel,Lalitpur (Nearby Jawalakhel Area)Ambience: recreational purposeAvailability❓ : Animals of general species , playground with childrens parkRestaurant: Available inside the premises with washroomsRecommended : YesParking🛑: Parking, Two wheelers available inside and 4 wheelers (Limited)

Best place to chill and learn about the habitats of different kinds of animals and birds. This zoo contains different types of flora and fauna . There are lots of animals and birds that u can know about watch them live . There is artificial lake as week where u can boat. There are animals that u haven’t known before. Great place for students to know and learn more about animals and birds . But never go near the wild animals and don’t try to feed them cuz they might attack especially for kids don’t try to pet them cuz this zoo contains wild and dangerous animals and birds as well
