Naberezhnaya Kryukova Kanala, 2, St Petersburg, Russia, 190000, Untolovo
Famed maritime museum displaying ship models, flags & other naval artifacts since 1709.
Very nice maritime museum, a lot off history to see but nothing written in English
Its one of the wonderful, fantastic and classic places in Petersburg.
Unbelievably and vast museum of the naval history of Russia. Located opppsirlte the New Holland Island. For some reason not on the standard tourist route, but well worth a visit. Staff are friendly including the lady collecting your coat
a huge museum , but a bit expensive I think - 400 rubles for local residents
The best naval museum in Russia, very large collection of model miniature ships.
Probably the best Naval Museum in Russia, started by Peter the Great, with the first ship miniatures built in the 17 century. Hundreds of models: ships and planes; paintings, sculptures and historical artifacts of the Russian Navy
A place with 19 beautifully designed rooms with plenty of exhibits about naval history of Russian shipping. Many of scrupulosity made models of tall ships, precious copies of submarines, planes, and even trains are presented here. It worth every ruble spent for the ticket.
Surprisingly interesting museum, located in a new place. Everything is light, wide and accessible... if you speak Russian. I do, but many people don’t and they won’t understand much without a guide. There are tons of intricate models with plenty of curiosities. I am not a fan of military history, but it’s a nice museum to visit considering the naval history of the city.
This museum I can go and visit 100 times and still I would like to go in it. The models are so intricately designed and a lot of hard work has been done. The real flags of warfare... Some parts of ships and many torpedoes... Many original peices were also there but the big models caught my eyes... And the calmness in there is so good. The information about each model each part each event is also briefly written.
Amazing. Dream if you love ship models
Grand history of Russian Navy and their association with the world
It is a gorgeous place where you can find lots of artifacts of the Great Russian Empires Naval Glory! Take a note that one day is not enough to get familiar with all exposition.
Very museum with beautiful models of ships, interesting history details. Child friendly - my 5years son was very excited to visit this place!
Really cool museum with a huge exhibition. As a tourist you have to pay double the price than as a local which I dont mind, but then Id expect the Infos to be translated to English at least. Most Infos were in Russian. Hence the minus one star. Otherwise - cool museum worth a trip
Naval n maritime history buffs ahoy..this museum is a must visit. The mind boggles at the sheer size, collection, mountings of displays - so varied in age, type and features. A place where the past can be seen transforming into the present through technology. Drop your anchor.
This museum is enormous and is packed with models of the Russian/Soviet fleet right up to recent times. Youd need a guided tour to get the real detail in English and even then it is too vast to take in on a single trip but the models alone are worth a look. What we also liked was the art displayed alongside. The paintings depict key battles and events and give you some perspective of Russian naval history so you can get a sense of the history. Loved the cafe too!
Beautiful and surprisingly interesting museum. The ship models are just works of art. Little signage in English unfortunately.
Wonderful place to visit, everything is new and shiny. The main disadvantage, its a place where you want to go to with kids, so, the place is good only for older boys and girls, for the little ones, the place doesnt offer any interactive activities, so they are getting bored pretty fast.
Nice museum, with much naval history under one roof.
Good museum
Amazing place, especially if you have a guide.
Theres a lot of effort put into the models and the museum is well maintained and updated. But it is unfortunately not very english-friendly (the explanations next to the artefacts are all in russianand unless you are very interested in naval history etc I wouldnt recommend the museum.
very rich museumu should visit..dont miss
Huge exhibition, hundreds of models of ships and artifacts of the past. I recommend to visit this museum to everyone, even if you are not a big navy fan
Great museum, we will back soon!
Dozens or even hundreds of models of historical ships, trophies from battles and a lot of different unique artefacts. One of the best non art museums of Saint-Petersburg located in historical building in the city centre. In addition to museum visit you can take a 100 meters walk to another brilliant place closely related to ships - New Holland Islands. On these artificial islands from 18th century formerly were located a shipyard, prisons for sailors and more.
The history of the Russian Navy in all its splendour.
Youll need several hours to walk around. Has dozens of ship models from first russian ships till modern cruisers.
A great place to visit for all those interested in maritime history. One of the best naval museums in the world.Plan for several hours to explore the whole exposition in details.
Only one tiket office, that is way very big queue
Super place, perfect time, up!
very intresting museum, especially for children
Would be amazing but needs English translation
600 Rubles for Non-Russians. The biggest problem is you are paying double what Russians pay yet virtually everything is only explained in Russian. Much of the interest of a museum are the stories and information but here, unless you read Russian, forget it. Secondly, the vast majority of the museum is like the photo I posted. It is full of model boats and marine artwork. If you like looking at model boats or marine related art, this is a great museum. Sadly, I just didnt find it very interesting and thought, compared to other things in St Petersburg, the admission fee is quite expensive for what you are getting. I spent less than an hour wandering through the exhibit. Would not recommend unless you read Russian or have interests in Marine art or model boats.
An extremely impressive museum. The only thing I disliked was the absence of English explanations or translations: everything is in Russian.
This seems to be a relatively new building, purpose built for the museum. It is in the shape of a ship. The displays are second to none for their quality and detail. I would have given this 5 stars, except for the compltete lack of translations for the inscriptions for every exhibit. I expect there is an audio guide on the was as I saw a sign for one similar to that in the Peter and Paul Fortress.
Amazing collection!! Take some time with you
Clean museum with a large assortment of naval ship models as well as real naval weapons (mainly torpedoes and anti air machine guns). Despite the lack of English language is still awe inspiring exhibition of naval history.
Central Navy Museum is excellent cultural foundation dedicated to Russian Navy since the time of its foundation in 1696 till nowadays. There are many original artifacts and models of different ships.
A lot of model ships to see. Military naval lover must see. Beware nothing is in english.
It is not true that it close at 6. At 5.15 they did not allow me to enter! So disappointing
Huge museum but collection isnt well organized
The Naval museum is the place one should visit once in St. Petersburg. Goog exhibits from different eras of the Russian navy. Reasonable price to get in. There is a canteen. Close to the New Holland another must do in St. Petersburg. Recommend
Huuuge museum. Plan to spend here 3 hours at least
Amazing place to visit, a must. You will find more than a 100 years old wooden boats, submarines, aircraft, modern submarines and airplace carriers from Soviet times to actual times. If you wanna visit every hall it would take you at least 4 hours but if you like to read and pay attention to detail be ready to spend 8 hours.
Great museam! Really huge excibition. It could take several days to view it all.
Very interesting, especially recommended for history and/naval technology.
A nice modern museum showing all aspects of Russian Naval History. I especially liked the submarine from the 1880s. There were models of various sizes. There were sections on different historical periods. After the section on the Russo-Japanese War, the next section was titled: Rebuilding the Navy. I appreciated the honesty.
Great collection of models of various sizes and different time periods.
New museum with thoughtful displays. However everything was written in Russian and not English.
