Free-entry museum exploring the human impact on evolution & species with a specimen room.
I thoroughly enjoyed this little museum. Very interesting information and specimens. It is quite small, but worth the trip.
The idea behind this museum is an interesting one. Instead of flora and fauna that occur naturally, this museum focuses on those things that have been altered by humans (think wolf to dog). However, the exhibits are not well labeled and they could have used some of the natural versions as a basis of comparison. So youre just left to wonder around and look at lots of specimens without context (was the modification a good thing or a bad thing ). Since we live in the neighborhood and it was free of day it was worth a visit for 20 minutes. Would I pay $10. No.
this was super cool, small but would highly suggest
Very unique and interesting museum! Make sure to pick up the phones to listen to the cool stories and information.
The staff was very nice despite us discovering the place just 20 minutes before closing. He offered to wait as long as we wanted. Its a tiny museum, and many artifacts lacked context or explanation. The main video was thought-provoking. 20-30 minutes was sufficient.
This place can be visited in half an hour. The exhibits are interesting and thought provoking, highlighting how we have changed the course of evolution for the animals and plants that we rely on for our needs. I hope theyd acquire more artifacts and move to a bigger location. There is a suggested admission fee (more like a donationand a small gift shop.
Truly unique look at human effects on the natural world
I love the concept. It’s a bit small and it feels like it has the potential to grow tremendously given the many instances of “postnatural” exhibits that could be put in.
Beautifully designed, fascinating exhibits. This is a real passion for the director Richard Pell and it shows. Very cool
Excellent little museum that provides a brief history on genetically modified organisms, some of which we take for granted in our modern lives.
Unique small museum located in an old storefront near the Childrens Hospital. Exhibits explain and show examples of how humans have changed nature. Would recommend if you have a few minutes free on a Sunday. Friendly staff on hand to answer questions. Tour is self guided. Only issue some of the exhibits were not functioning either light was out or recorded voice option was not functioning.
This place is amazing!
Perfect for dates and goth minded folx
An amazing visit! Even my sometimes-museum-skeptical mom loved it!
Interesting but small. Amazing that one guy does everything for the place.
Really well designed, the entire museum is just a very interesting and enjoyable use of the space. I cant say I was particularly interested in this topic before visiting, but I still really enjoyed all the exhibits!
Unusual and unexpected. Free admission, donations accepted. Some of the most interesting facts and specimens I could have imagined. Definitely worth the visit - if you can make it during their limited hours.
So weird, so cool.
Unlike any display of artifacts Ive ever seen. Beyond cool. Free admission is a plus.
I love this place! Very interesting, only open on Sundays.
Best museum in Pittsburgh
This is an odd little spot and full of some really neat stuff. The exhibits are small so it takes some effort to stay on task and see everything, but the audio guides are definitely nice.
So weird. I really hope this place is a joke.
A weird little museum about how we (mostly scientistshave influenced the world around us. Primarily about genetic engineering. Neat stuff!
Small museum, very well done, and friendly owners to explain! Exhibits present facts, not opinions, allowing you to educate yourself on mankinds impact on the natural world.
This place is amazing.. Its a must see for yourself type of experience.
Awesome concept, really gorgeous atmosphere, displays, and info.
Cool weird science!
One of the coolest spots in Pittsburgh, small museum of artifacts genetically altered by humans, very cool aesthitics, worth a trip to see.
Wast of time
Such a neat spot! They were renovating when I went, and I cant wait to go back and see the updates.
Really neat, small museum.
Very disappointing. Its a single room and most of the "exhibits" are this weird thing where you pick up a phone and it talks to you. Very odd.
A really excellent little 30-minute museum to feed your inner biology nerd or just make you wonder at how we have worked to re-shape nature through breeding and biology to fit our needs. Theres a rush of exploration as you examine how selective breeding has completely altered dog skeletons over the centuries, a chill as you read about a ferret flu strain that could have killed millions if it had escapes. A laugh as you read about people trying to make spider silk from goats... And silk worms... And dozen other critters... What Im saying is I really needed out hardcore here. Make sure to ask the owner any questions you have--it was well worth it when I did. Also, this place is free. You can make it all the way through in 30 - 60 minutes, so a good idea is to stop here while doing the Unblurred monthly gallery crawl.
It was very cool! I only wish they had more for us to explore. Donation only and there were a few really interesting exhibits.
Loved the little, FREE museum! Only takes 20-30 minutes to read through. The owners work for Google and Carnegie arts program; the story about David Cross visiting the museum is great.#HeLacells
This is a very small but super-informative museum chock-full of extremely interesting exhibits. A self-guided experience, it addresses, without judgement, how humans have changed the natural order and development other living things throughout (mostly modernhistory. You can enjoy this place whether you spend a little or a lot of time here. About 1/4 of the exhibits are best viewed with (provided3D glasses. Entry is free but donations are welcome. It is only open on Sunday afternoons and the first Friday of each month, but one of the curators is usually at the entrance to greet you and answer any questions.
The museum is really small. Easy to digest. They have some awesome content! I had a great time. Definitely worth going to.
So insightful and easy to navigate. Learned many things!
This is a really interesting place to visit. There are a couple rooms, but the exhibits will keep you fascinated for an hour or perhaps two. Small children will need constant supervision, but my second grader had a blast! The curator was there and he was super pleasant to speak with about the items on display.
Snazzy spin on the traditional natural history museum.
Certainly one of the quirkiest and thought-provoking museums in the city. A worthwhile visit, especially during one of Garfields First Friday events.
Wasnt open when I showed up at 13:35 on Sunday!
Perfectly executed concept.
Great and unique Pittsburgh museum about human-modified organisms.
