Cenote X'batun - Tourist attraction in Izamal, Mexico
Nice covered sink hole near Mérida. 50 pesos entrance with parking right to the entrance.
Incredible cenote
A rugged dirt road led to a small paradise! First cenote we’ve seen so didn’t have much to compare it to. Arrived at 8:30 after reading they opened at 8. The ticket office didn’t open until 9:30 so we waited around for a bit. Allowed to spend 45 min in each cenote and a guide checks you in and out (keeps a ledger). You must rinse off before walking down the steps to the cenote. The first one is more open and the send is enclosed in a cave. Birds and bats flying above your head add to the natural experience! This was a pleasant adventure!
A magical experience!! Now I understand why Mayans considered them sacred. Amazing!!
Limited to 45 minutes for each cenote, should have warned us before paying.
A beautiful and scenic cenote. Take a lovely dip in the wonderful cool, crystal clear water.
After looking at the reviews here to get information, we visited the cenotes and wanted to provide our thoughts and hopefully provide information you need in one place.First, there are two cenotes at this location. We arrived at 9am which is when it opened (despite listing that said it opened at 8am). We were the first ones there and got to enjoy both of them to ourselves! They are both wonderful and breathtaking in their own way. One of them sits in a more open area with views of the sky surrounded vines hanging down the walls. The clear water that reflects aqua color is breathtaking. A part of the cenote is covered with flowering lily pads that adds to the wonder of the view and enhances the experience. The other cenote is accessible via wooden steps and in more set into a cave. There is a long wooden dock along the shore with ladders to climb in/out of the cenote. The ceiling is home to birds in their clay nests. The water also reflects a turquoise color. I would highly recommend a snorkel for both cenotes to get a better view of the extended caves that the cenotes encompass.Second, the drive to the cenote may seem like you are in the middle of nowhere. Once off the main road, you drive along a narrow roads where you need to stop to let others pass by and a city that feels lost in time. I think it is Hacienda Cacao. The ruins of the city are a site to see and you pass by. As you enter San Antonio Mulix, you see a sign indicating the price of the tickets. The cost was $100 pesos per person for 45 minutes in each cenote for a total of 90 minutes. You can also rent life jackets and snorkels (we paid 60 pesos for the snorkel). The entrance to the cenotes are a little further up the road. Once you get in (someone at the gate collects your ticket), you can drive to either cenote. To maintain the beauty of the cenotes, you cannot take food or drinks into the cenote and you must rinse off before you go in. Additionally, no sunscreen is allowed to avoid polluting the water with a film of sunscreen.Hopefully this is helpful
Loved how careful the community was about our visit. Life jackets and most implements were also available. Definitely worth a visit, despite the distance/lack of public transportation.
nice and picturesque but theres usually people around and also they charge a ridiculous 500mxn fee for bringing in a camera. mobile phones are fine though. someone explain the sense of this to me. as the cenote is not so deep it actually looked a bit murky underwater and there was also a filth/body oil film on top
Its small, but if your lucky to have it to yourself for a while, its an amazing, tranquil, idyllic temple of nature.-1 star: The 45min limit is a bit ridiculous (especially when there are few people), as is the camera rule (dslr only if you pay additionally, but mobiles are fine).
Outstanding cenote, the drive is long and on dirt roads but your patience is rewarded.
Very nice place, I recommend to arrive early, between 9:30 and 10:00
One of the best cenotes ever, at first and by photos its not exciting but in person its beautiful, as long as there are not many people
Very nice cenote. Not too crowded. Open air
Top 1 cenote, feeling in the jungle, we were alone. The whole area is clean, the locals preserve both cenotes. After a route through Yucatan, was our favourite. The difference in the price between foreigners (100 pesosand nationals (50 pesosI don’t understand, plus asking for a tip every single time. This is a general reflection of our journey in Mexico.
A must visit place!
They were nice but not the best. They were not clear like many and not well maintained.
The X-Batun Cenote is closed. We payed to enter but then after you are told the cenote is close for sanitation concerns. To anyone that is driving from Merida over an hour to find this cenote, change into your swim suits, then you shower before swimming, and once you get to the cenote they tell you its closed...here is your fair warning that the cenote is closed due to sanitation concerns. Super weird process, and somewhat frustrating to be standing soaking wet after a shower, in your shorts with your friends to be told its close. Oh and they charged us $400 pesos "FIRST" then told us it was closed.Weird? Ya...a little weird. The cenote is certainly beautiful but you can only look at it. Have fun!
Great experience! Two small cenotes, not far from each other. The entrance fee for both was 50 for Mexican and 100 for foreigners.
Two nice cenotes, one open air and one closed. They are rather small so even a group of 5 people stirs up the water and makes the place feel crowded. But if youre lucky you get this beautiful place to yourself. Showers and bathrooms all provided
Beautiful cenote. The water is turquoiseBut prices rose. Its now 100 for foreigners and 50 for localsIts a bit expensive
When I visited it, it was nice just for a picture but the water was cloudy and a wee stinky. The other cenote was great for bathing.Sadly the area is littered, a problem that could be easily solved by the staff since they were busy killing time by playing with their phones.
This cenote is pretty but the water is not that deep as others that we have visited. The second cenote which is partially covered we enjoyed more than the open one.
The cave cenote was Worth the drive part on a primitive road. The water is aqua and has a magical feel. Left my hair and skin very soft. The outside cenote is also nice, some small biting fish though. I didnt stay as long as it was pretty crowded for a small space and not much room to chill. I couldn’t see the restaurants mentioned.
It was beautiful. Crystal clear blue water . The kids loved it (2yrs and 4)
Two beautiful cenotes. One open and one partially in a cave. We had a very nice swim here while on our vacation. Extremely beautiful!
Both cenotes are very beautiful and special! We recommend to come early in the morning (8- 10am)... the best lunch spot is at „buutun Restaurant“, near by the cenotes! Very nice people and Food :)
Beautiful and not crowded place. Nice cool dip.
A great place to chill down and swim. The water is clear and deep. I could rent life preserver. It is possible to jump in to it. The entrance fee is still less expensive. You have shower and locker to. Next to the Cenote is restaurant with a small menu.
It is a very beautiful cenote to enjoy and to refresh from the intense heat of the region. The only problem is that might get quite full as many tour operators and people stop by there. So better try to arrive very early there. There are 2 restaurants inside the facilities where You can eat. We only try one of them and the food was very nice.Be aware that on summer season the area is full with dragon flies and it is really awful to try to run to avoid get bitten by the flies. So if You have small children take care for this situation during the wet summer season.
Very small but well worth the visit. Sunday’s are always a busy time so go during the week and you will have the place to yourself.
You had to pay an entrance fee of 80 pesos for foreigner to see 2 cenotes. The cenote itself is beautiful but dont expect too much when you get there. It can get very busy as soon as some groups come.
What a calm and relaxing cenote. Clear blue water, fishes and tranquility. Entry 50 Pesos for two cenotes. Barely people there.
What can I say about this place. You really need to come see it for yourself. Its a bit off the beaten path but well worth the drive. Just keep following Google and you will get there it is a bit of a long drive and you feel like your going the wrong way as there are no signs to speak of. Also there are 2 cenotes here
This is am amazing cenote! The water is suprr clear and there are fishes everywhere.dont forget your snorkel equipment to be able to see everything, you will love it
I truly like this 2 cenotes but stay away from them if you are traveling during peak season or on the weekends. These are probably the most famous ones around Merida, so youll be with a crowd sharing very scenic but quite small cenotes. Admission fee is 50 for foreigners and 25 if you are Mexican resident.
Very easy to find and the people of the nearby village were very helpful. Nice and quiet little cenote. If you are ticklish keep swimming because the little fish tend to start cleaning your skin when you stay in one spot :)
So so pretty! Quiet and clean. Nice also for free diving. Here you can see three types of fish.
I very beautiful cenote in the heart of Yucatan! The Water is cristal clear and the fishes help you to clean your skin! The cenote is inbetween beautiful trees and rocks!
One of the most beautiful cenotes near Merida. However dont go on Sunday. Its super crowded.
Brutal! 😍
gorgeous place
One of the best place to visit in merida Mexico. Entry is so cheap 50 peso only. Nice and friendly staff. I enjoyed the time by relaxing there.
amazing placeto swim, preferably come early to avoid other travelers
This is a great set of two cenotes. Its easy to get to, close to Mérida and usually not crowded. The open cenote, XBatun, is the prettier of the two and has great crystal clear blue water
Better of two cenotes accessed thru San Antonio Mulix (other is Dzonbacal). Beautiful water shimmering off walls of cave.
Way off the beaten path but beautiful and quiet. Not crowded or overly touristy
Awesome! Definitely worth going. The water is crystal clear and with a little bit of luck you can enjoy it without other people. There are two cenotes in fact, both amazing and quite different. The price is 50 pesos.Dont miss it !
great place, away from everything, go visit, enjoy your picnic and chill in the water.worth going off the beaten track
Great stop off the highway to Uxmal. A little adventurous to get to but well worth it
