Cenote Ik Kil - Tourist attraction in Izamal, Mexico
Cenote Ik Kil in Izamal
Description
Privilege
Pretty cool Centote in the heart of the Yucatan peninsula. Must wear a life preserver to jump, provided for free with a locker space if needed with ticket purchase as well. ₱150 Tickets
MoreEasy stop to cool off after visiting Chichén Itzá. Clean cenote but with lots of traffic. Expect it to be filled with tourists. Good water temp and nice diving platform for the adventurous. Would recommend.
MoreIt is a magical place. You need to go see it when in the area. It wasn’t too crowded when we went there, so we stayed for good two hours. Just floating and enjoying the beautiful nature
MoreThis was a once in a lifetime experience for my wife and I! Back floating in the Cenote is pure bliss!
MoreAbsolutely stunning and breathtaking! The cenote is beautiful and refreshing, you would be able to spend couple hours there easy! But go before 11am (open at 9amto avoid the crowd, as most tour groups will start arriving after.Cenote Ik Kil is privately owned, therefore you’d be able find restaurants and accommodations if needed. Ticket includes life jacket (compulsory for all swimmersand a locker.
MoreThere is no words to describe the natural beauty of this sacred place. ✨️ A must see spot, less than 10 minutes from Chichen itza
MoreTourist trap. Jam packed with kids screaming, from 10 till 5pm. Popular because its near ruin and because it has good infrastructure like changing room and restaurant. Many similar cenotes with tree roots like those near Valladolid.
More✅ WHAT AN AMAZING PLACE TO VISIT! If you are in doubt if you should come in here, don’t! Just go!We went first to Chicken Itza and there we bought a ticket to this place. We got the ticket with lunch.PARKING: it’s free for visitor and they have someone organizing the cars, it’s huge and easy to find a spot.ENTRANCE: everyone is nice and give good directions. They don’t speak much English but they try their best to help you.RESTAURANTE: they serve your food according to your directions but they don’t SERVE REALLY WELL. You have one drink only but food is all you can eat. The food is delicious. You have a LOCKER key per person. It’s FREE. And don’t lose it or you’ll pay 400 pesos, approximately 20 dollars. The place is HUGE! And you get a life jacket to swim in this Cenote. Marine life is active! But only the small fishes, the huge ones swim deeper (thank god! Lol)You’ll have a great time, the man made structure is great, the natural structure is impressive! It’s beautiful and very well preserved.Thank you for the amazing experience!
MoreBeautiful spot. Stopped for a quick visit on a tour. If youre going to rent a locker, its the first stop inside (follow the signs). The lockers are located closer to the back of the park. Be sure to bring water shoes because the steps are slippery.Leave anything important in your locker, as my husbands glasses are now at the bottom of the water. A waterproof case for your phone is important, because the pictures are beautiful.Bring cash for a quick snack before leaving. The food carts and convenient store were very clean and helpful.Overall, this is a beautiful place to visit. We were only here for a few hours, but could have easily spent all day walking around.
MoreThe most beautiful cenote we’ve visited! Very deep as well.Best come before 10:30 AM when the ‘early birds’ from Chichen Itza start arriving, first the cars, then the busses. We were the only ones there around 10:00 AM.Entry fee was 150 pesos per adult without the restaurant-package. Parking, life vest and locker were all included.
MoreThis place is very clean and organized. Get there early or after 230 to beat the crowds. Expect to stay less than 2 hrs. Lockers showers and safety jacket all included in price. Very beautiful
MoreCenote Ik Kil is also known as the sacred cenote because this is the place where they practiced rituals to honor life, death and water, and here were once found human remains, jewels and treasures sacrificed by the Mayas. When you visit this cenote, just by seeing it you are speechless, when you enter you have to go down carefully because the steps are very slippery, and when you enter you can either go up stairs or take a dip, it is better to take a dip because the water is so cold, it goes all over your body.I had feelings of admiration for the place but not very happy because here they sacrificed people for the wishes that the Mayas had but I recommend going there.
MoreThe cenote was nice but our locker was robbed and from my wallet was taken 2000 pesos. Sounds crazy right? The locker is not locker anymore.100% it was someone from the employee. When we came in the morning we went to the cenote and left the wallet in the locker. There was almost no one only us in the cenote. So they had plenty of time to take the universal key and steal 2000 pesos. They left me there 400 pesos so I realized it when I was back at the hotel.Thank you guys that you left me there our IDs and credit cards. :))Never again.
MoreWe went there today during our Mexico trip and the place didnt disappoint! Its absolutely beautiful I must say and hence gets quite crowded. We went there around lunch time and it was ok but when we left, there was huge queue etc.The ticket for two is 700 pesos including buffet lunch which is not really worth it hence the 4 stars!I would highly recommend this place.
MoreBeautiful swimming spot, easy access. Only regret is only having 45 minutes being on part of a guided tour.
MoreAbsolutely stunning great experience and a definite place to visit . Two hours away from Cancun . But absolutely beautiful.
MoreIt’s so beautiful. Who am I to review natures creation anyways. It was magical to walk in there and the hotel has managed the censored very well. There was little crowd but we were very early. We didn’t swim etc and the fee per person was 100 plus pesos
MoreHonestly, this cenote looks cool with his lianas, but man this had become a artifical theme park.An entrance fee of 150 Pesos, mandatory masks, temperature and desinfect gel. Hundreds of lockers, mandatory showers, mandatory life jackets and everywhere supervisors. The cenote itself looks nice, but has been complete rebuild with plaster on one side and and artifical ‘cave’ walking trail to it.Totally not an unique experience anymore.I would advice you to find some unique and less crowded cenotes yourself.
MoreThis was one of many beautiful cenotes in this region of Mexico. It’s beautiful and serene. The sound of the birds and looking up to the sky was a phenomenal life experience. As you can see my pictures are as beautiful as the ones posted on Wikipedia.
MoreThe food at the buffet wasnt great, the cenote itself is gorgeous. Bring water shoes - the stairs are wet and icky
MoreBeautiful cenote - you can see why its popular as it is breathtaking! We visited Chichen Itza first and werent sure whether to go to this cenote as we wereworried it would be busy or not worth it. We arrived at around 11/12 and it was pretty quiet, lots of time to take photos and swim. It is stunning too and amazing to swim in! It was great to have changing rooms, lockers and other facilities, also you can jump in to the cenote for no extra charge. The only down side is life jackets are mandatory so no snorkelling!
MoreAmazing place to visit. Great experience! Totally recommended after a hot day at Chichen Itzá! 😍
MoreOh where to startJust a magical experience even with a bad knee
Heres my advice for this cenote. Forget about taking pictures or videos for a few minutes and just enjoy jumping into the water! There will always be time to record your jump or pose for photos. Even if there are many people in the cenote, you will be able to have an enjoyable time. For those participating in diving/jumping/swimming, life vests (and a showerare necessary - for an extra charge. They have lockers too if needed but better to just keep your stuff in the car as its a short walk. There is a restaurant and a vendor selling ice cream bars/sandwiches on the premises. Water is on the colder side but not colder than the shower you will have just taken! Although you will be wearing a life vest, I recommend to jump only if you are comfortable swimming as the cenote is deep (150 ft). There is staff present at the site.
MoreIt’s a hidden gem! After walking in the sun for hours on Chichén Itzá it was so refreshing big beautiful cenote. The only thing is the stairs to come up or down it could be difficult for elderly people.
MoreAmazing cenote! For $150MXN Pesos you get parking, entrance, life jackets and lockers. Well maintained and clean area. The all you can eat buffet was $250 MXN pesos and was well worth it after a long swim in the cenote.
MoreThis is The first cenote I visited, it was an amazing experience, absolutely beautiful. I wish I could have stayed there longer. Its cheaper if you buy a combo with Chichén-Itzá entrance.
MoreSuper great, I had a blast swimming here. They have lockers and life jackets. A little spooky though since it is several feet deep. :)
MoreAmazing and unique experience. The price is reasonable too. Getting there from Cancún was quite the challenge but swimming in the cenote paid off. Piece of advice, go early, it tends to get really crowded after 12.
MoreBig cenote very well organised. Lot of parking places, showers, life jacket for protection. The cenote is preety big with a wide openning so at a point of time sun will come in and you can just float on the water surface. Nice surrounding besides the cenote itself. They have places to eat or take some snacks. Totally worth it.
MoreIts gorgeous, has lockers, showers, toilets, and cafes, but is absolutely not worth going to unless you can arrive before the tour buses. The are two packages to choose between (see photo), they require you to fully shower off before entering the cenote, and wear lifejackets the whole time. They partially follow covid rules with wearing a mask and having hand sanitizer, but once you leave the lockers and head to the cenote you are no longer wearing a mask and have to go down an underground hallway with only a few ventilation windows overlooking the cenote, which of course have mask-less people crowding them. The hallway going underground leads to a shorter tunnel where youre up to your waist in water before going out into the open air cenote, so theres a lot of time in close quarters without a mask on going in and out of it. If tour buses are there then this section will be packed, thankfully we were leaving by this time (around 1:30pm).Overall it is very pretty and well-organized, and if you can make it there by 12pm you should go or if you cant, find another, less-popular cenote to visit to be less exposed to hoards of people without masks on.
MoreMy photos look most like everyone elses. This place is amazing! We did it as part of a tour and I could have spent many more hours here. I didnt find the water too cold. The staff is very friendly. You go in, rent a life vest and a locker, rinse off, then descend the many steps to the water. There are fish in the water but nothing that wants to bother you. Well with the trip!
MoreStill cannot believe that it’s made by nature. Come there after Chichen Itza to refresh. Ticket costs 150 peso per each and includes life jacket and locker. They have changing rooms after ticket office so you can take your swimsuit with you and don’t change in the car like we did it :)It’s super beautiful cenote and also you can jump to the water which is great.
MoreI was there in March 2020 and it was simply amazing. The cenote itself is an incredible place. There are many services available and despite the crowd you can enjoy a nice swim. Absolutely loved it!
MoreThe cenote was so beautiful! Make sure to bring money as they cost money and charge for life jackets which are required to be worn. There is place that serves lunch and drinks as well as a cute little shop
MoreAbsolutely stunning and DEFINITELY worth the drive <3 One of my favorite memories from our trip!
MoreWe went here during the week on an excursion stop. We spent about 2 hrs there. Here are some details:The good:-Beautiful natural feature-life vests available to rent-ropes stretching along the cenote in order to grab onto something-areas to jump off into the cenoteThe bad/ish:-You MUST be able to swim. There are no shallow areas here and you must tread water the whole time you are in the cenote-was very busy and caused me anxiety with so many people treading water-no sunscreen allowed, you must shower before going in the cenote. You don’t really need sunscreen anyway because its dark.
MoreIf youre in Chichen Itza, you should come see this place. This was my favorite cenote because of how beautiful and unique the hanging vines are. Id recommend going around midday so that the sun is shining into the water because the pictures would probably be nicer that way. They have dressing rooms/restrooms here and you can bring your own locks for the lockers. The waters here are generally on the coolers side but not unbearable. Wetsuit not necessary unless its raining or something.
MoreVery beautiful cenote with one central swimming place. You can jump from the designated areas. Good infrastructure with clean bathroom and showers. Food available. Hammock area for relax. Can get very crowded, but even so it’s worth the visit.
MoreI had seen this years ago and thought I would love to visit when in the area. It is a very cool place. Unfortunately, it was very busy when I went. It was still worth the trip. They have life jackets if you can’t swim so you can float right near the entrance. Don’t miss this if you go to Chichen Itza.
MoreBeautiful cenote. Even though there are many tourists arriving, the place does not feel very crowded. Plenty of space. The site has showers, changing rooms and toilets. All for 80 pesos.
MoreA wonderful place to visit. We did this as part of our excursion to Chichen Itza. We only managed to get an hour here which wasnt long enough. It is only a short distance from Chicen Itza. The cenote is vey well equipped with the ability to rent lockers, life vests and towels for approx 50 Pesos. The cenote is very deep but has a ladders and a rope with buoys for people to hang onto. You can drive/jump into the cenote from a small platform. There is stairwell which runs from ground level down to the cenote which can be rather slippery. It was really busy whilst we were there. However our guide mentioned that after 5pm it is shut to the public and is only open to residents.
MoreOne of the best life experiences. Extreme fun. They have several platforms for you to jump or somersault into the water. Lifeguards are present but I think they are there mostly to control the crowds. Too many tourist though. People arr driven here by huge buses. What a wonder! Open natural fresh water pool with tree vines on the edge and some waterfalls. Water is so fresh. You can see live black fish swimming around. They are not bothered by the so many swimmers. Water is so soft, it is so hard to stay afloat. Better wear a life vest which they can provide. Lockers are available for those with valuables. Better to keep the key or you will have to pay for lost keys. Major precaution: floor is extremely slippery. They have a public shower where everyone can see you. Must do! You will definitely enjoy.
MoreThe most gorgeous cenote I have seen in Mexico, beautiful scenery and when the sun 🌞 is on top the cenote the view is just breath taking. I’d highly recommend to stop on your way to Chichen Itza, if you’re booking a tour make sure you verify with them if they will stop at this spot.
MoreThis was one or the most blissfull experience. Jumping / swimming in the Cenote was incredible. This is a real wonder of mother nature. There is a good restaurant too, if ypu are in the area, do not miss it :-)
MoreVisited this cenote as part of a Chichen Itza day trip booked on Expedia. It’s extremely crowded and feels like a tourist trap. The locker rooms and showers are on the dirtier side because there are so many people. The cenote itself is hard to get to, down 4-5 flights of extremely slippery stairs. It’s nice to swim in but the water is quite dirty - definitely can’t see the bottom of the cenote. There is an elevated area if you want to jump in. Very loud & rowdy environment overall.
MoreAmazing!!!There is nothing else but the cenote, luckily for us we did no need anything else, it was such a great experience.Highly recommend. The entrance fee is about $10 bucks.
MoreIts super hard for me to review this place. Its undoubtedly an amazing wonder of nature, incredibly beautiful place, with creepers growing up the walls and lianas hanging down from the cave ceiling. The water is crystal clear and very deep (so you can even jump from several platforms). This being said, its ridiculously comercial and crowded (tours buses arrive here after visiting nearby Chichen Itzá). On the plus side, there are awesome facilities like lockers, bathrooms, a restaurant, etc. On the downside its just not serene. Its super noisy and crowded, and ... Well, some people are just not nice and respectful ... on the plus side its really easy to get to from Chichen Itzá (just 4kmby colectivo or taxi ... overall I wouldnt go there again unless i were super short on time. There are bunches of really nice and less crowded cenotes all over the place
MoreGreat for quick dive, very popular among tourist due to tours and travel agencyWe did our chichen Itza tour from 13baktun tours and after chichen Itza, we came here. It was great, though I did not go into the water as a swimmer I can feel this. this Cenote is a big hole about 150 feet in the ground. Water was very clear, and you can see people diving down the water. There is locker room at a reasonable rate and they give you the life jacket. Stairs are there all the way to the down. But again, I guess if tour buses don’t come here, it won’t be that much crowded and, in that way, it can preserve its beauty. There are souvenir shops, restaurants, and park and you can pass your time here.Donno why our bus halted here more than 1.5 hr.
MoreIt is including during my trip from expedia to Chichen Itza.I have to say it was a nice way to end the Chichen Itza tour after spending a good 4 hours under the sun with 103 F (39C), like jumping down to a heaven of cool water. The only reason i had to give a 3 stars that i could feel the water is very dirty. That water stucked there forever and no circulating. And i dont think if people overthere would do the bacteria level testing everyday to make sure it is safe for people to visit. Well, welcome to Mexico. But it is a nice place overall. Very organized. Also it is a same concept like any other place you are going to visit in mexico. People would hand you a box for tip when you entrance. Kind of funny
