Cedars Forest in Tripoli

Beautiful calm place the smell of the trees really transport you to another place. If you do visit in autumn winter take a jacket. The change and drop in temperature from the city was a bit drastic. I love all the added information on each tree. Each tree told a story.

When you are in Lebanon, this is a must visit place! The Cedars are symbol of eternity on The Lebanese Flag. Entrance fee is a donation, be generous because you are being a part of the reforestation project, trails maintenance... Enjoy your time there, the fresh air, the breathtaking scenery...

Great place to visit and walk in nature. It is impressive to see trees that old.

Cedars of God is a trail where, you guessed it, you’ll see cedars, plenty of them, forming a forest of cedar. The trail is clean and even though it was a weekend, we entered almost immediately. We are locals but there were lots of tourists. I’d say if you’re nearby, say in Ehden, it’s a must to visit. But I wouldn’t intend on just visiting this place all the way from Beirut unless I had other plans around.

A beautiful part of the country up in the mountains - approx 3 hrs drive from Beruit and 2 hrs from Tripoli. Very nice for a walk around - the trees provide shade from the sun and its cool enough to take your time. Toilet facilities are available both at the entrance and in the reserve itself. Snacks and drinks are available inside and outside the reserve and various souvenirs are available to purchase.

Beautiful cedars. Small reserve. Not a hike, its more like a walk, so dont expect it to be a long trail. Very easy level trail/path. There is a church as well.

Cedars of God marvelous place I recommend everyone to see this place cause the trees that are there very huge and very old , every tree has a ticket that shows the height and width of it. Its really very beautiful place, the entrance is free you can donate money if you want cause with that money they are taking care for those trees 🌲🌲

Prized in biblical times, the cedars of Lebanon are the remnants of an ancient forest. The Forest of the Cedars of God (Horsh Arz el-Rab), a cluster close to northern Lebanon’s Qadisha Valley, is recognized with UNESCO World Heritage status. These majestic trees, a distinct species known as cedrus Libani, can live more than 1,000 years and grow to 130 feet (40 meterstall.

There is a lot of cedar forests in the world but this one is the only one called « The Cedars of God ». Listed on UNESCO World Heritage Sites, this is the oldest cedar forest in the world. It contains trees that are thousands of years old and that can reach a height of 35 meters with their trunks reaching 12 to 14 meters. This forest is one of the last vestiges of the extensive forests of the Lebanon cedar that anciently thrived across the mountains of Lebanon and that was exploited over the centuries by many civilizations. Besides featuring the oldest trees, the forest is home to the cedar tree decorating the Lebanese flag. You can find this tree on the south-western part of the forest (can be seen from the highway before arriving at the kiosks that sell wood). When you are in this place, you feel the nature majesty and beauty. You enjoy the walk in a stunning, quiet, clean and well-maintained space.

The Cedars of Lebanon are Biblical... theyre mentioned in the Bible over 70 times. Its worth the trip to see these magnificent trees.

The Lebanese cedar is found quite frequently at high altitudes in Turkey and Lebanon, where this type of tree forms pure or mixed forests together with larch pine, cilice firs and the genus Juniperus. . In addition, it is abundant in the altitude of Cyprus and the Atlas Mountains (Africa), where it occurs in forests together with plane trees, oaks, junipers and numidia firs. Apart from that, there are several pure forests of Lebanese cedar.

A must see when visiting Lebanon. It takes about 20-30min to stroll across the trail surrounded by the magnificant Cedar trees, some more than a thousand years old. Amazing to explore in winter where the forest is covered in snow!

A unique experience of one of the most beautiful places in Lebanon: The Cedar Forest , although relatively modest in size, is nevertheless a lovely place worth the drive. The smell of the Cedar trees, the treks and the incredibly beautiful mountains all around make the drive from Beirit worth it. You will feel the freshness and the soothing effect of the Cedars.

A must see site in Lebanon. The drive along the edge of the Kadisha valley is breathtaking, as you pass through the classical Lebanese villages. The Cedars site is magical. Make sure you walk through the forest and take in the history of these ancient wonders.

Lovely small cedar forest surrounded by the mountains. An easy walk for most . Souvenir shops surround the entrance but the shopkeepers were not overly aggressive with sales. A great place to spend a few hours. Good to combine with the Gibran museum.

Beautiful and necessary experience to visit and explore the heart of Lebanese culture and history. Breathtaking views and wonderful area which allows you to relax and take-in the nature around you. Theres also a beautiful Maronite church one could visit.

It us enough to know that this the forest that King Solomon used its trees to build his temple in jerusalem. The cedars od God. Amazing place. It has the oldest and biggest cedar tree in the world, the cedar that is pictured on the lebanese flag, the icon of lebanon, the national lebanese tree.

This Cedar forest is a must to see, you can take your kids if you have any. Very easy trail. Probably the oldest trees you will find it here.

Unfortunately the access to the forest was closed today due to recent snow falls in the area. We could see them from distance but a bit frustrating to drive all this way to realize you cannot access the reserve...

Somewhat disappointing as it is a rather small patch of large and old cedars.. can hardly be called a forest. But the drive to the place is scenic, and depending on season you can also take the road across the mountain to Beqaa valley.

Small forest which takes 20 minutes to roam around. As well as being a forest, it is a holy space.There is a sculpture on one of the Cedar trees by the famous Lebanese sculptor Rudy Rahmé.

After more than a decade of dreams, this trip became real, at last. I had the option to visit the largest and the oldest cedar tree forest and chose the latter. Having learnt it is located about 2000 meters above the sea level and considering it was late November, I decided to buy a warm long cardigan and a woolen shawl, and I did well.I was intrigued with the forest name; my guide told me it was given by the monks who found it (and then took care of itwho could not discover the origin of this oldest cedar tree forest in Lebanon.Cedars are special trees. When they are adult, they are very resistant, strong, living for thousands of years; however, the young trees are very vulnerable and less than 10% make it to the adulthood.I set on my journey at 11 am, travelled along the coast for almost 2 hours (with a stop for the delicious Lebanese coffee), and then our car climbed the mountains for another hour or so. The seaside temperature was about +23°C, but it dropped to +10°C in the mountains. This was in places with the sunshine. In the shades of the forest, the temperature went even lower and in less than 20 minutes, my hands started freezing up to the point my camera failed to respond to the touch. I tried to warm my hands wrapped in the shawl and was somehow successful.The oldest cedar tree is located outside the reserve, on the top of the village; this is the tree model for the Lebanese flag (before, I used to think it was just an artistic image, only while preparing for my trip I found out there was a real tree behind, which is about 3,000 years old).The entrance to the park is free of charge, voluntary donations are welcome to support the project of re-introducing the cedars to all the Mediterranean-facing slopes of the Lebanese mountains (the cedars need the see humidity, they cannot live on the desert-facing slopes). After going some steps down, you will find yourself on a path leading you through the reserve. There are very old as well as younger trees, which raises hopes for this forest. Be ready to go uphill; in this altitude it is more difficult as one would expect. It was quiet, calm, soothing one’s mind. You will pass the church to get to the “main square” dedicated to the French poet de Lamartine who wrote many of his poems in this very forest. When the cedar on the top of the hill was killed by a lightning, a local sculptor created the poet’s image and few more sculptures in the tree remains. The cedar Trinity (pictured with a 2-storey building to show its sizeis the highest part of the journey.As a surprise, the park closed at 4 pm the day I visited it, while it is supposed to be at 5 pm. I recommend checking at the entrance to avoid running to the exit.I arrived back to the hotel short before 7 pm, happy, tired, and totally satisfied.Wish you a great trip!

A beautiful reserve located in the Cedars area. It has tread that are hundreds of years old. The area is breathtaking from the extraordinary cedars to the clean air and beautiful Eglise. You need to visit this place especially if you are in the area.

A cool place to visit. Small like a 20-30 minutes walk. There is no fixed entrance fees you pay what you want and got a card back as a souvenir which is kind of cool. Recommended to visit when in the area.

A blessed place, serene, pious, awesome, breathtaking.Cedars of God, of the oldest trees in the world, go all the way before Christ.The smell, quiet and just imposing sight of the forest will instantly connect you to nature.Extremely recommended to retreat speakers and pious pilgrims alike.

You should visit this place , its awesome. You will find cedars aged 100 years and more.Its a nice peaceful cedars forest, with a small cozy church, and you will find status made by Roudy Rahme.Besides there are shops where you can buy souvenirs, like porte cle with your name on, made with cedars wood.As for the entrance its almost free, you can pay as much as you want just for contribution.

A must visit place all season. A great landscape that is not very commercialised like the other Lebanese mountains. Best time to visit for me is in the winter time when is the ski season.

Marvelous break from city to nature a walk through trails of small cedar of god forest preserve where you can see 3000 years old cedar trees & in middle you can see a cedar tree struck by lightning but they didnt remove it instead they engrave it & made it a sculpture of Jesus Christ along other symbols, small hikes can be done there, hike sticks available outside, there is no entrance fee but you can donate any amount of money for the forest in which you will get post cards in exchange , also one can buy small cedar trees & plant it in the forest have your name on it, when done small restaurants h cafes are ready to have you refreshed after the small hike, not to be missed when visiting Lebanon & bcharie village

I had an amazing time visiting the cedars in May. We arrived around 10am and had a coffee at a cafe near the souvenirs shops. The entrance to the Forest was a discretionary contribution. There are several walking paths that are well defined and take you through the cedars. Lots of great photo opportunities and sights. After the forest we walked around the souvenirs shops and had a custom wood-burned cedar souvenir made on the spot!

Was lovely to see all the beautiful trees, and the trails are well maintained. We were able to hike through them in just over an hour. During winter the trails are usually not accessible but you can still get a good view of the park from the street, and its a breathtaking view with the snow on the trees!

Located in the north of Lebanon this forest is a divine gift to the Lebanese people. A combination of magic and reality creating this magnificent spot ! You can spend the day walking surrounded by Ceaders and fresh clean air .
