We thoroughly enjoyed our 45 minute tour of these caves for only €7 each. We were lucky to only have 4 in our group. The caves are very interesting with some of the largest stalagmites we have ever seen. Our tour guide, Alexis?, was very nice & informative & spoke excellent English. There are a lot of steps & also a fairly long walk back to the starting point, but it is not too difficult. We have been to many caves in different countries but thoroughly recommend visiting these caves where photography is permitted.

We expected to enter the cave freely, but were met with a guide that takes you around the entire cave and explains everything. The cave is enormous and full of beautiful views. The guide explains everything perfectly!

Something definitely to see but beware:SCAM ALERT.When trying to find a park on the main road to Perama Cave. A man will say the road is closed ahead with no car parks availiable. He will guide you into his shop where he will entice you to buy fake silver. Beware of this guy full scam artist will talk to you to find a connection, next thing you know your in his shop. There are plenty of parks ahead.

Fantastic cave with 1 million year old features. You walk up and down the cave with a guide. It takes about 45 minutes. When you are done it feels like you are exiting the same way you got in, but no! You exit up in the hill, about 1 km from the entrance. Inside its 18 degrees C but be prepared to sweat it out.

The Perama cave is a great place to stop and view a stalactite/stalagmite cave the locals discovered during World War 2. The tour guide was professional and conveyed substantial information in Greek and English. We were lucky enough that all people in our group could understand English which made the tour Guides job easier and gave us time to ask some questions. The walk through the caves is challenging but you are given an opportunity to walk back after 1/3 of the way through if you are finding the going difficult which is very considerate. The rest of the tour is challenging in some spots especially the ascent at the end. The stalactites are well lit (non flash photography is possibleand the cave is a cool 18 degrees which is a relief especially in peak summer time. However be warned of the shop keepers in the surrounding area. The hustling is Rome Colosseum Gladiators pictures level which for me having been to Greece so many times is unusual and made me feel quite uncomfortable. Cheap costume jewellery/photos of the caves (you can take your own pictures inside just with no flashand be warned of anyone offering free parking as its just a trick to get you to buy stuff at their shop. We got done over by a lady offering free parking - but at least we got some decent Greek sweets (although at a highly inflated price. We had some tired under 10 year olds with us and we figured €20 was something wed just accept - but I absolutely hate trying to be hustled on holidays. I know theres nothing that the actual people / company running the cave can do.If youre driving, best to leave your car parked at the street you turn into where the caves are. There is a big parking lot there, but it is a 1+ km walk to the cave entrance. There is a train that I believe takes you to the cave entrance from the Anna Petroxeilou museum at the corner opposite the parking lot.The vendors at the cave entrance and exit are nowhere near as pushy and the souvenirs for sale are reasonbly priced (if you like that kind of thing A Bottle of water is dirt cheap as is usual in Greece (and not more expensive than the hustlers water)We were the last tour of the day so we werent back on the street until well after 5pm. Thankfully the hustlers also keep a strict timetable and all of their shops were closed while the owners were probably well into their second Frappe by then, and we were able to walk back to our car in peace

One of the largest caves in the Greek Archipelago. The guided tour was a great experience with lots to learn and plenty of opportunities for pictures. Entry is staggered every 30 minutes but the wait didnt feel too long as there was a nice pathway nearby that allowed access to some great city wide views

Beautiful cave, a must see when in the neighbourhood. You walk through the cave with the guide over 1100 mtrs. Good shoes or good sandals! It can be slippery. Parking space is limited. Especially for big cars or rvs parking can be difficult. If possible walk or take a taxi.

Great experience if your in the area. The caves have some unique features to it that separates it from other caves. Its also a fantastic way to cool down on warmy days! The guide was really uninteresting and kept talking for ages. Would much rather prefer to walk alone or in country specific groups so everything would not have to be repeated in multiple languages. Be prepared for some wait time.

Really nice cave, a lot to see, cool temperature of 18 degrees Celsius whole year. The tour is 1,1km long and lasts for about 45min. Nice multilingual guides. There are some stairs throughout the cave, but everybody should be able to climb that. The regular price is 7 euros or 3.5 for students/young/older people. Also a visit to the museum at the bottom of the village is included into the price, but it was unfortunately closed when I was there.

Spectacular, I have never been to a stalactite cave. Getting around was easy because routes had been made there. Due to height differences I do not recommend if you have difficulty walking. The temperature in the cave was +18 degrees and the shorts and t-shirt went well there. Length of the route was 1100m and the duration 45 min. Guide told us interesting things about the cave and how they have been found. Pictures could be taken without a flash.

Unfortunately, the cave is being very poorly run. It opens only at 9am, which is already very late. Whats even worse, however, is that the first tour (and for some bizarre reason you can only go inside on a touris at 9:40AM!!! This is not mentioned on their website, which clearly states a 9am opening time!!! Perhaps the cave employees are in cahoots with the souvenir sellers to trap waiting customers to do some shopping??

A nice experience to visit the cave, the guide knew what she is talking about with good scientific explanation, you feel as if you are in a science class with the fun of field trip. Only one point, hope they change the lights inside the cave because in in some areas moss started to grow.

One of the most beautiful and biggest caves in Southern Europem with some really astonishing big rooms within its long passage. Furthermore, once you get out of the cave, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Ioannina city and its lake.

Very interesting cave and story behind it. Its also a pretty recent find which is astonishing for the size of the cave as it was only discovered during German WWII atrocities in the area. The temperature is 18°C and given that you need to walk and its humid, you might get sweaty pretty quickly so wear light clothing. The tour is interesting but not as involving as it should. The municipality managing the cave should put a lot more work in it. Also there are no info points that would fill in since the groups are pretty large and if you are at the end if the queue you cant hear the guide. Overall a must see if youre in the area. There are some strange locals asking you to park in their parking. No idea what these people want from tourists but avoid them anyway. Theres a nice municipality parking a short walk from the cave entrance close to the traffic lights on the lakeside road. There are no signs and I guess the strange locals could have one or two things to say.

Amazing cave. Wisited with my 5year old son. We are hikers so it was easy for us. But in the end you need to go straight up pretty long time. Views are breathtaking. When you come out of cave you are on top of the hill, so if its Raining - better to take Rain coat with you, cuz you need to go back to entrance.

The scale of this cave is amazing! The guided tour is approximately 45 minutes and takes you through various caverns and walkways of Perama cave. The tour guide did a great job of presenting information in Greek and English. It is cool in the cave (about 65Fwhich is nice. Parking is a bit challenging but we were able to find free street parking. I’ve never been in a cave like this and it was incredible!

The cave of Perama is a beautiful area to go and see. The cave is about 1.1 km long and it takes about 45 minutes to see it. They offer tours about once every 30 minutes, running the entire length of the cave. You come out on the other side and you have to walk back about 10 minutes on a stone paved path and you can follow the tour guide back. The only problem I found is lack of parking space and very narrow roads. The cost of entry is €7 for adults and 3.5 for students.

Located in northern Greece the city Ioannina is famous for its huge lake and beautiful Perama cave. Discovered by accident in 1940 by residents fleeing bomb attacks during the second world war, the cave is filled with stalactites and stalagmites - some of them over a million years old!! Bats live there and blind deaf spiders live off their droppings. It’s a cold, wet, alien .. and at the same time mystical and majestic place. Tour takes about an hour and the guide was very professional. Best regards @thedabbling

Nice place to hide from the hot weatherCave route is about 1km. It is easily accessible and there beyond cover on the route (with stairs). Unfortunately photo is strictly forbidden even if you do not youse the flash. This is strange so I had to kept my tripod in the case.

Excellent visit! The tour was amazing (it lasted for 45 minutes), the guide so polite and helpful, I have learnt a lot about the lifecycle of a cave and the view was magical! You are not allowed to take photos, as it is dangerous not to pay attention to your steps, plus the flash is very harmful for the caves ecosystem. However the guide was nice enough to let us take some photos at the great hall with the "statues".You will see beautiful forms of million years old stalactites and stalagmites. You should bear in mind that the walk was not a straight line. We had to climb a lot of steps in the end. Wear comfortable shoes which are also relatively safe for walking at slippery surfaces, the ground needs attention due to the humidity. If you feel physically safe to walk inside the, I definitely recommend it!

The caves of peramatos are an extraordinary and MUST place to visit for both adults and young kids. You also learn some fascinating facts about caves that you wouldnt imagine. Definitely worth the entrance fee (7 euros full ticket - 3.5 reduced). Fun fact - spoiler in case of an earthquake, natural caves like this one are one of the safest places to be in. Also being inside the cave for up to 1.5 hour has healing properties. The cave has quite few steps to walk but nothing hard. The path is pretty safe and well maintained. Photos are prohibited for safety reasons mostly. Last but not least the walk inside is a guided tour and lasts approximately 40 minutes. Among lots of natural sights ive visited, this one is definitely on the top list and I highly recommend it to anyone who can walk! If youre lucky enough you might also see a bat like we did! (They are harmless and sleep). Enjoy!
