A lot to say but no words can describe this place."Horrible and horrific" is not close to the experience my siblings and I received.We didnt have a waiter, they were coming ti take glasses/plates that my sisters were earing on, while we were still eating *imagine* 😳😳😳This is the worst place Ive been at... they need proper training.

The service from your waiters was unbearable, the foods was not great. The only think my family enjoy was the milkshake. We won’t be coming back for sure.

Great ambiance and beautifully decorated. Serene setting which offers great views over the country side and the setting sun. Extensive menu and the best steaks by far.

I cant praise it enough and we were wonderfully surprised. We both had steaks, they were perfect. Veggies wonderful, dessert was good. Service was excellent, and happy faces, setting lovely.

We were coming back for the 2nd time, n this time we had one of their signature steak the Chateuabriand....it was lovely 😍, we really enjoyed the atmosphere n our food.

I’m trying to find something positive to say about my experience at the Cattle baron but I’m struggling. And given that I chose this place based on the other reviews written here, then I believe that the problem has to be me. If like me you expect a certain standard of service from the staff- silly things like attentiveness or a rudimentary knowledge of dinner service, maybe a little passing acquaintance with the menu then may I suggest you skip this little black hole in the universe whose gravitational pull swallows your will to see it through to the dessert course. Where this experience lacked in service, the food managed to do nothing to improve the situation- although perfectly prepared and presented I felt like I was sitting in another franchise steakhouse where nothing on the menu escapes the standard issue BBQ basting and the obligatory 2 to 3 slaps across the open flame grill, not even the deserts. I chose the Baked potato and sour cream to accompany my sauced up slab of sirloin only to be served with baby potatoes instead. “Aah baby baked potatoes” - who knew that was a thing. Turns out the sour cream was also something imagined and developed in the R&D kitchens at the Cattle Baron because it sure as hell did not contain natural cream sourced from the bountiful teets of a lactating bovine. But I’m sure on any other day had I not arrived, the food, the service would have been on par with any other venue that wanted to separate me from €46.00, it’s just me, I guess. Cattle Baron? More like Cattle peasant. Good luck.

Beautiful scenery, amazing food and great service

Service was a bit slow. Steaks were good as always! Crumbed chicken was a let down.

The food was good.Large portions, definitely value for money though I must disclose it’s not cheap.I enjoyed the meal but I felt the service wasn’t great so I can’t give 5 stars.

I have not been to a Cattle Baron in a number of years, and I have not been to this specific one before. Lived up to the great standard that I expected as far as the quality of food and the views are also great. There is outside seating and a grass area with a jungle gym for the kids although neither of those were very popular when we visited due to bad weather. Everyone in our party was very happy with their meal. Not something that happens everywhere. The service was also good and portions generous.

I love this Cattle Baron, we come here often. Food is great always fresh. Waiters are always friendly and helpful

Great food, fast service and superb views.

Very quaint place overlooking some vineyards, nestled between the beautiful, dramatic Stellenbosch mountains. I dont say this very often, but this please makes amazingly tasty food. From pork belly, apple and mustard mash potatoes to kiddies cheese burger to a classic 21 day aged T-bone with a stunning habanero garlic butter sauce. The most amazing T-bone I can remember ever eating and I dont say this very lightly. A must visit for foodies and steak lovers alike! To top it off, the staff are friendly and the food comes out very quickly! Stunning!

The best steak and service, always.Well done, even under new management, we were pleased and greatly satisfied with the food. Always a winner.

I had a running stomach for 2 weeks after eating the old ribs in your restaurant, which was April 23, 2022 lunch after my graduation ...the waiter did change my plate and apologize after my complaint ... but it was not enough that I almost died from dehydration.I will never forget that day, those old ribs ruined my graduation celebrations.

The food was great! And so was the service. Exactly what one expects from Cattle Baron. We sat close to the doors leading out to the Garden and kids play area. Im hoping it was just our bad luck and not a common issue, but we were swatting flies away from our food the whole time we were there. That ditracted from our experience.

Beautiful venue with absolutely appalling service. Made a reservation for 50 people to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary lunch. Email correspondence followed by appointment to view the venue and then payment of the deposit. On arrival, there were no menus on our tables, as agreed, were to use the set menus. Then when the waiter finally brought the menus they had a price increase and not that of what was communicated to myself. Also, no champagne glasses on any of our tables. Eventually only about 8 champagne glasses was provided, the rest of my guests had to use big red wine glasses.I spent more than R8000 for such terrible service and experience after being promised a perfect day. The Manager gave me attitude and raised her voice at me. I was totally disgusted with not even an apology. Then when the bill came they automatically added a 10% tip which amounted to R850 which I just paid to get out of that place. Will not recommend it to anyone.

Absolutely amazing! The fillet is as soft as butter, the spinach and butternut sides are to die for and then you have to top it off with mouth watering dessert!

It is truly a spoil to go there. 5 stars worth everytime! Amazing!

Beautiful setting, beautiful presentation of food. However, I ordered a rock shandy and I received neat lemonade???? The waiter said it was a special bitters they use but I had to send it back after tasting…… not convinced.

The restaurant had a lovely view, and deco was nice and relaxing. *We didnt have an appointment...yet the staff were friendly, and very accommodating. We were immediately seated*. ( although I would recommend booking, as this restaurant slowly filled up as the evening progressed). The food was excellent...and I really mean that, it was cooked to perfection. So you cant go wrong with a steak...or calamari ( that was our choice). If you are looking for really good food at an affordable price, this should be your go-to restaurant.On the negative side ( why it only reached 4 stars...the air-conditioning was not working, and we were uncomfortably hot, and the service was a little off.( we had to call somebody when we needed assistance and the bill took usually longer to arrive...we had to request it twice)...*if the manager can check his air-conditioning ahead of accepting customers the situation could have been avoided, or if we were told their is a situation with the aircon, we could have sat in another area or outside....and secondly, train the staff to check on the customers at regular intervals- because the eveningstarted really well, but went down hill towards the endIf the manager could get the above sorted out, it would really be worth a 5 star rating.

We went for dinner on 14 Feb 2022. Although the food/wine was good and value for money, there was a nasty incident at time of payment.The Bill showed that a Tip has been added without my consent and, to add injury to insult, it shows a 2nd Tip column that the Client must fill in. Absolutely ridiculous.Because the service was good, I scratched out the value that Cattle Baron so indiscriminately added to my account and calculated a tip where the bottle of wine price was excluded.The final straw was when the Waiter questioned my actions and called the Manager (in front of allwho interrogated me about my actions.This will most surely be the last time that I will be visiting this place and I shall escalated the issue to a Hotel Board Authority once I can identify one

If youre seeking some fresh air far from the busy town this is the place to be. So peaceful and you can enjoy watching the sunset. As for the food, their pork ribs taste devine.

Good quality steak and burgers served in a comfortable semi-formal environment. This branch has great views from either indoor or outdoor seating.

We went for Christmas lunch. Our table was given away, we had to wait 45min to be seated, the starter (wingswas off smelled rotten. They didnt have enough of the mains and took forever with our food. We took our dessert as a take away. The staff was really friendly and went out of their way for us. We got discount for the inconvenience.

This place is perfect for end of year functions, weddings, parties and family gatherings. It is beautiful for pictures, has a pool and play park for kids and adults too. Food is amazing and the drive out here is definitely worth it.

The food was divine, excellent service and the decor and view exceptional

Food was good. Menu stated that both ribs and wings are flamed grilled. The wing and rib combination never saw the grill but is par boiled the baszed. Basting no hint of habeneros as mentioned. Not a bad dish. Greatbtasting but could have been better

I love to visit this Cattle Baron. I could find no fault with them. The food was very good, the atmosphere was cosy and the service was excellent. All covid measures were in place. I will definitely visit them again.

Simba our host was great and looked after our table of 9 with a great smile and attention to detail. The food was out of this world from my burger to the other steaks that others ordered. Great out of town location but easy to get to and plenty of parking. And zero corkage on the bottle of Alto Shiraz we bought from Pick n Pay was a bonus. We will return.

It was my first time at this Cattle Baron and I ordered Steak which had a very bad smell like the meat was rotten. When I tell the waiter my meat smells off I was told the Steak is aged and the cow is a matured one so it naturally comes with the smell. I am giving two star for the warm and friendly service but food I will not recommend.

Dinner at the Cattle Baron in Stellenbosch this evening with my gorgeous girlfriend for a delicious Chateaubriand. Succulent fillet cooked to perfection medium rare. Well presented, flambeyed at the table served with baby potatoes or rice, creamed spinach and butternut and the accompanying sauces.Well priced for some great steak.I rate this 7.5 / 10

Comfortable chairs, tables and venue very neat. Waiter assisted us very well. Large groups welcome. Cozy atmosphere and a fully stocked bar. Good coffee and milk shakes available. Neat toilets. Parking outside was attended to by a well known security company.
