Jirón Carabaya, Cercado de Lima 15001, Peru, Callao
Huge baroque-style Roman Catholic cathedral with a gold-plated altar & an on-site religious museum.
A beautiful cathedral in the center of Lima. Recommend to get the double ticket that includes the museum next door. The cathedral itself is big, and the open area is way bigger than all the cathedral I have visited in Europe. Not just the main church, there are a lot of rooms displaying historical catholic religion items. Don’t miss the crypt downstairs. The door might be a bit small but there are plenty of space underneath.
A beauty in architecture, and history, poised in the beautiful downtown of Peru’s Capital, Lima❤️
This impressive cathedral was built between 1602 and 1797. It is dedicated to St John. One of the major attractions in here are the remains of Francisco Pizarro, the conquerer of Peru. His bones are displayed openly in the side chapel when you come in on the right.
A great tourist attraction in Lima. Amazing architecture.
I totally fell in love with this great architectural master piece. Each one of the chapels within the Cathedral is a masterpiece on its own. Allot plenty of time to REALLY appreciate this place. A combo tix for 20 Soles will gain you entrance to the next door Palacio Arzobispal.
Disgraceful Catholic church demands money to enter a house of God
Cathedral of Lima is the most beautiful cathedrals in Lima, and it’s just right in the corner of the main plaza of Lima. I enjoy the view of the cathedral itself as well as the view of the plaza when sitting in front of the cathedral. Buying the pan con chicharrón (pork sandwichat El Chinito (right next to the cathedraland sitting down in front of the cathedral to enjoy the food and view at the same time might be the best way to experience the atmosphere of the beautiful city.
Amazing Cathedral on the Plaza in Lima. Great examples of Santa Rosa de Lima (patron saint of Peruand grave. of Francisco Pizarro. Interesting wooden ceiling/roof construction intended to mitigate earthquake risk.
Very clean and well maintained.
There is a staff from city hall who is very kind to introduce us the brief introduction of the surrounding area and provide us advice which places to visit if the time is limited. Per his request, I wrote comments on his book in my language about what I think of Lima and Peru.
I do not always like cathedrals but this one is cool. It has the remains of Francisco Pizarro along and it has a lot of really cool underground things you can walk and see. The admission price was ten Peruvian dollars. I spent about a good 40 minutes in there. Highly recommended!
Lima is precious!
We went close to closing time, but they werent letting anyone in. There was also a lot of police presence in the area. I think some VIP was visiting, most likely. The church looks pretty nice from the outside, but by then we had seen a lot of impressive churches in Cuzco, so wasnt as impressed. The church is right by the plaza de armas. The plaza looked like a really nice area for people of Lima to congregate. Lots of street vendors selling various toys and such. Looked like good times.Next time Im hoping to actually enter the church.
Beautiful building outside, but now closed for to the public so I dont know watch inside.
We enjoyed the hour we visited this amazing colonial Cathedral and the explanations given by the guide were excellent
🔝
Baroque cathedral with lavish decorations and a chapel with the remains of Francisco Pizarro
There´s so much to see and such a interesting history about this building that is better to do it with a guide, we had a terrific guide and enjoyed so much this visit
If You visit the historic center of Lima dont miss this place, the Catedral is huge inside and rich in colonial art
This Cathedral has an impressive collection of paintings and art from colonial art, and also here is the grave of Pizarros conqueror of South American terrritories
This cathedral has a contless number of colonial art on display and ith worth it to hire a guide to provide in depth information
I recommend to visit here when you come to Lima. We can see not only Cathedral, also catholic museum.
Carefully renovated after major earthquake impact, the Cathedral welcomes its today guests with a spotless image. Special mention to the central line of pillars rebuild works, which, somehow surprisingly, is supposed to better resist future earthquakes...
Austere style with a just the right detail. and this is all wood. No concrete vaults here.
A nice cathedral
The church was rebuilt after earthquakes that why the different styles of the façade. Inside there a lots of altars from old families or that were donated… just impressive religious art.
Beautiful, historical cathedral located at the south east corner of Plaza De Armas De Lima. When youre visiting Lima this church is a must. Inside even more impressive. Fantastic artwork, very interesting historical documents, full of history.
Situated on the Plaza Mayor, the Cathedral is a must-see in Lima. Pick up a fold-out leaflet (available in English), as a guide to the cathedral and crypts. Follow the numbered guide around the various chapels starting with Francisco Pizarroburial chapel; the Spanish conquistador, who founded Lima. At the side entrance between the Chapel of Our a Lady and the Chapel of Saint Rose, look out for the cut-away panel in the cathedral wall showing the construction using bamboo to give flexibility against earthquakes. You will need about 1 hour here. Highly recommended with several other attractions nearby.
A beautiful historical building that represents one of the religious symbols in the modern era and a landmark of the city in general and the capital in particularIt has a huge impact on the lives of the citizens as it is a wonderful place they can be proud of in their country and reflects their civilization🌷 💚 🌹
Beautiful CATHEDRAL, we are catholics and we love going to different CATHEDRALS , BASILICAS & CHURCHES when we visit different countries. This CATHEDRAL is a Roman Catholic CATHEDRAL that is located right across from The Presidential Palace and La Plaza Mayor in downtown Lima. It took more than 50 years to build this Cathedral. The experience here was very spiritual and breathtaking. It took a good 2 to 3 hours to cover this spiritual center. The feeling that I experienced, while I was there, was of peacefulness, tranquility and love. Moreover, I felt like heaven on earth 🌎. Thank you to God and all the people involved in this tour for recommding this site, it is full of history. Tomorrow we are touring the underground catacombs of this church where the Cardinals and Orsobispos were buried on underground catacombs. I want to thanks our body guard for explaining every part of this spiritual tour. Also, we want to thanks GOD for giving us a great to learn more about the foundation of the CATHOLIC CHURCH in LIMA, PERU 🇵🇪🙏. Amen. Sincerely, TONY MORA.
Heart of Lima,Local people keep church and all surrounding very clean and safe. Same could not be seen around residential areas
Beautiful museum! The first room was the best IMO!!
Very interesting. We paid for both tickets and we enjoyed the history and structures.
A great historical building that commemorates some key figures of the Peruvian church and its history. The place has a great architecture and many little chapels.
Immense historical tourist location. Hard to understated just how much history is encapsulated in this building. Signage is mostly all in Spanish but there are random sprinklings of English to be found. Definitely worth visiting it with a guide to get the full story!
Visited on a Sunday where some of the nearby roads are closed. There are services but we were welcomed in to visit and take photos. Recommended as part of a trip to Lima.
Paid 10 soles to enter. Came with English pamphlet that was incredibly helpful to identify and describe all the ornate chapels inside. Maybe because it was Monday afternoon but the place was empty which was nice. I grumbled at paying to enter the cathedral but it was well-worth it for 10 soles. Pictures fully allowed.
It’s beautiful! The design and architecture of it is something else. Try going early for better pictures
Amazing architecture, very inspiring a must see.
This is a magnificent place. Unfortunately, I was unable to take in all its glory because I had to leave early to catch my flight and traffic is horrendous. I was here for maybe 15 minutes tops 😔.The visit to the Cathedral is part of a tour package that my friend and I bought. Word of advice, skip the tour and go straight to the Cathedral instead. As expected, the upkeep of the Catherdral is impressive. For a building constructed in the 1600s, there is no sign of aging. It appears that it was constructed from the finest and most expensive material, such things that are seemingly absent from todays architecture. There are several chapels here to the Saints, the history behind this I did not quite get because the tour guide was stingy with the details. Any way, I took a few pictures that I think the public will appreciate. There is one thing that I have to point out about the worship area, and that is, it did not seem intimate enough. I say this because the chairs for the congregation are so far apart from the pulpit. Not to mention, all the vast space that exists in that one area.
Beautiful mass, place with so much culture and history in it. Amazing architecture.
We went 2 weeks before Easter Sunday and got to see the procession from the cathedral.
It is an interesting place to visit and you can see the catacombs below it. I highly doubtful the bones you see are real in some of the tombs, but it is interesting nonetheless. I noticed that the doors on the sides are all open, but the ticket price is cheap and the bathrooms are really nice.
Whether youre Catholic or not, the cathedral of Lima shares its beauty to the world. Well detailed structures and amazing tour guides included. Explore and get to know the many saints that lie in this holy building. From painting to tombs, this place is enriched with history.
The Cathedral stands apart on one side of the Plaza de Armas with its grand architectural design. The building structure and the facade signify the colonial architecture while the the details in the facade bear Peruvian seal. Even though the building is a place of worship, it is difficult to miss the architectural details and the neoclassical influences. Definitely, lives up to the hype and enriches the experience of even a casual traveller.
An extraordinary historical monument. Big only is the building itself to of meaning, but the artwork it houses is stunning. Of course, the experience will depend on your guide, but the price of the entrance ticket is well written it.
Each cathedral inside the building is a great representation of the various artistic styles that have been applied to Limas churches. Lots of history for all of South America to be learned here. Worth it to have a guide for the visit.
I honestly have no clue why majority population of Indios should be proud to celebrate Piazzaros grandeur but the purpose of showing enigmatic Peruvian reality works here. A must check.
Beautiful architecture in the center of the city, walk safety in this place.
This beautiful spot is at the heart of busy Lima. I was able to pray in the chapel but couldnt take pictures inside. The feeling of peace in the Church stuck with me though
