San Martín 27, C1004 CABA, Argentina, Buenos Aires
Modern museum showcasing 20th century & newer Latin American artwork, cultural events & films.
There is a lot Of Gold, and mausoleums of San Martin
Beautiful church and it is a most to visit San Martins resting place. After it, walk to the plaza de Mayo and stop for cup of coffee to take a view of the area
In itself, this cathedral is impressive and definitely worth seeing. And, one should note the important history behind its construction. But, more so, this is the church that current Pope used to preside in. There is also a bunch to see and do in the area. There are a number of great parks, local art, fountains, restaurants and shopping.
Historical Cathedral in the Main square of plaza de Mayo in the city of Buenos Aires
Conveniently in the very centre of Buenos Aires, this cathedral is striking outside with a beautiful interior.Plenty of minor rooms and corners to explore. Many ceremonies seem to happen from day to day.Not to be missed if youre in BA.
Beautiful Cathedral with a slightly different feel from outside. The area it is in contains a number of historic landmarks and this Cathedral is worth wandering in and out of. It is the main Catholic church in Buenos Aires and has a beautiful interior.
Exciting to walk in the space of Pope Francis before he was Pope. Not on the level of the Vatican but certainly this Catedral has its own grandeur. Of architectural significance is the Greek facade towards the plaza which seems a bit out of place to me, but nonetheless designed payed for and built by many others who studied and prayed over these decisions more than me.
Maybe it does not seem to be true, but right on the Plaza de Mayo, you will find this beautiful piece of art.
A great deal of history has been through its walls since a humble little chapel was erected in 1580, where the first mass ever on this land took place. Here rests General José de San Martín, although it’s an extramural burial because of the controversy generated by his Masonic past. More information in our "Essential Buenos Aires" travel guide.
Do not miss this significant landmark when in BA! The atmosphere inside is something very special
Spectacular cathedral. Doesnt look anything like a cathedral from the outside but inside is amazing, the architecture and the monuments inside are incredible. Definitely worth a visit. Was there for an hour or so as we decided to sit and watch the afternoon service.
Beautiful cathedral that includes the tomb of Jose de San Martin, liberator of Argentina, Chile and Peru.
PROSBeautiful cathedral in downtown BA.Dont judge from the outside. It is absolutely GORGEOUS insideAccording to our tour guide, this is the church the the current Pope Francis ministered and led services from in BACONSNone
Dont judge this building from outside it reveals its beauty inside. The music during the service is very beautiful!
Beutiful chatedral, very huge all corner have some interesting things. Problem again the people. All just push all want make a picture. Crazy and noise.
Beautiful cathedral in the heart of Buenos Aires, it’s larger when you walk inside (compared to what it looks from the outside.)
Beautiful cathedral with a direct link to the liberation of Argentina.A nice place to visit and get impressed by the mosaic floor and different chapels.Have a nice walk around and enjoy the altars and statues and take some time for some self reflection in a hectic city.
Beautiful cathedral located right in the center of Buenos Aires, right by Plaza de Mayo. The cathedral features beautiful religious art and an impressive altar. The organ in the back is incredible and the acoustics of the place are great too. There is a small area dedicated to Argentine soldiers and heroes, which adds a nice touch to the overall vibe of the cathedral.Entrance is free. Strongly recommended.
Beautiful Holistic Old Historical Church. Tomb of old Argentinas Freedom fighters inside the church permisis. The God of honor celebration will be in morning 0930 hrs. And opens after Guards back to duty.
It is a beautiful temple, especially inside.San Martins monument is impressive and the Granaderos guard offers the correct seeing for such a hero. The Shoa and Israel Embassy and AMIA Victims mural shows how integrated Argentinas population is.
What a wonderful place! So beautiful outside and just stunning on the inside. Peaceful and rich in beauty, it was an amazing place to visit
Lovely place to walk and see the history through the religion. A beautiful church and a awesome square.
Interesting place to visit if you’re around and even if you’re not a religious person. You can take some nice pictures. However, I wouldn’t recommend going there if you are staying in Buenos Aires for a short time. There’re tons of much better places to visit in this gorgeous city.
Beautiful Catrdral . Came here about 4:45 pm and unexpectedly saw guard handover ceremony, its really lucky fro us.
Lovely cathedral, beautiful paintings and intricate details to statues. Although, not as grandiose as the ones in Europe, still beautiful to walk through.
Situated just across the road of Plaza de Mayo, you cant tell that this building is a cathedral from the outside. The pillars forming the main exterior look more like a museum instead. However, once you step inside, you will be in awe of its grandeur and spaciousness. Highly recommended!!
The exterior is more in the style of the Pantheon (Rome), with corinthian pillars supporting the large triangular pediment. From the outside, doesnt look like a place of worship. But step inside and you are met with a number of beautiful altars aside from the main one. The mausoleum of Jose de San Martin is housed here, protected by two smartly dressed guards
Very beautiful. It has mausoleum of Jose de San Martín, the liberator of Argentina, Chile, and Peru.
The exterior is rather deceiving and makes it look like a university or official government building, but the interior is quite fascinating and includes the monument or San Martin, the faner of South American independence.
Beautiful cathedral. with visiting. Change of guard at about 5pm on Sunday. mass at 5:30pm Also 2 masses in the morning
Just a nice cathedral with an interesting maosoleum of Jose San Martin.
Very impressive cathedral behind the facade of an governmental-like building which seems much smaller than it actually is. Only when you are inside you see the impressive decorations and cathedral, including a small chapel in which the liberation of Argentina is remembered, protected by 2 live guards inside the cathedral.
The Greek style front-exterior and Roman dome made me thinking it’s a government building but it ends up to be a Catedral Church without single cross outside. What a surprise! The interior was full of the Baroque decoration. The mausoleum of General San Martín was solemn and elegant
The building of the cathedral has a admirable outside and interior design.
Gorgeous building! The choir sings some sunday mornings during the service.
Beautiful cathedral with fascinating exterior architecture which makes it look more like a traditional government building than a church. The interior is magnificent as well and houses the mausoleum of General Jose de San Martin, guarded by three sculptures representing Argentina, Chile, and Peru - well worth seeing.
One of the best cathedrals, ive ever been too, rivaling others in europe and the americas!
Beautiful cathedral. If you are around the vicinity, why not spare 30 mins of your time to visit this place?
Its a beautiful cathedral. Close to all other attractions in the centre and very nice to visit with family, friends and couple.
A unique and very beautiful place, a lot of details into its construction, a huge and beautiful organ tubes.
Cool cathedral and beautiful on the inside. It was the seat of Pope Francis when he was the archbishop. Theres also a changing of the guards that protects the tomb of General San Martín. The guards although definitely do not have as much discipline as British or Canadian guards. Dont be confused by the exterior of the Parthenon, it is the cathedral.
Catedral Metropolitana represent the Argentinian Nation.. something Unique...I Recommend it to visit
A beautiful and recently well maintained cathedral steeped in the history of Argentina. It is also an active place of worship.
Beautiful! Look at the ceiling and the floor (entirely covered with Venetian mosaics). Dont forget to visit the San Martins mausoleum
Its a very simple cathedral, but a big part of Argentinean history.
Tourist important point! Dont miss this opportunity and near to Casa Rosada, Plaza de Mayo and Cafe Tortoni. Subte and public WiFi!
A beautiful building, it has a lot of history and its definitely worth a visit.
Very beautiful cathedral, near the Subte and by the way you have to take care with homeless people.
What a beautiful church, the floor tiles made by hand and lots of heritage is preserved there ...
One of the most beautiful Cathedrals in the city. I love going there when I visit Buenos Aires. The church is impressive from the outside but inside the decorations really take your breath away. Well worth a visit when in Buenos Aires.
