Castries Central Market - Market in Castries, Saint Lucia
Wonderful place to get tour local arts and crafts....👌👌👌
Would like to support the people of castries but they just pounce on you when you are looking and then you end up walking off cos they dont allow you to look, shame as I would of bought a good amount of things but they hound you..... not good they just scare you off
Great market place on the island especially in Castries.
Nice place to shop especially when looking for souvenirs or food items like produce.
You need to look carefully for one of a kind, authentic St. Lucian made articles. Many stalls in the market sell the exact same things. Its who can you barter with, some vendors do, some dont. Find what you REALLY want, then haggle. If you think its a reasonable price, then buy. If not, walk away, youll find the same things elsewhere with someone who will meet your price
Some of the most affordable food. Raw and cooked. Good breakfast spot from as early as 430am
Great place to eat local food and get all your souvrniers
Very helpful, chatty and friendly vendors with a variety of souvenirs.
The options for organic fruits and vegetables are unlimited. That market is a one stop shop, you can also buy fresh meat and fish.
Great local market for buying souvenirs , everything under the sun , tshirts , towels, bags , lighters , etc , etc, and the people are friendly and most importantly willing to bargin , loved this market but take a couple of hours to walk around, if you enjoy chatting with local people this place is a must to visit
Stopped for a drink at a outside bar by the traffic lights, it was nice
This busy market has a lot of fruit and vegetable vendors, some butchers and clothing stalls thrown in there too. The people here are friendly and answered questions about some of the fruit and veg on display... like "green fig" is actually green banana! Coconut stall at the back will cut fresh coconuts for you. There is a taxi stand across the road. Next to this there is an arcade selling souvenirs - one of them was so kind as to phone our taxi driver (Mr Zolfor our return journey.
Fair enough choices on local arts and craft. After some info search I realized I didnt know too mention that the prices are quite reasonable
This is a big market in St. Lucia with lots and lots of market stalls selling everything from food, souvenirs and local produce. Ships dock there for tourists to shop.
Very refreshing in inviting and informative...I love old relics and I must say staff had the place clean and in top shape
Pretty cool local market. Nice vendors. I went any time I had downtime.
Family time at Gros Islet beach
I always go to the market when I visit. Check out Ms. Foyta from Aux Leon located in the food court area. Purchased some items from a vendor close to the entrance during this visit she had many options and great service, loved the keychain purse options.
Couple of items to buy, but St. Lucia has big grocery stores, overall its a good expierence
Lots of fruits/vegetables stands, artisan kiosks, and food booths. Must the try food booth #3. The owners name is Shery...that lady can cook! The salt fish and green fig was delicious.
Any and almost every item you seek can be found right here in the market. Lots to eat and drink and of course music to pump you up. Best time to visit would definitely be a Saturday.
Drove past the market whilst staying Im St Lucia, it seemed like an experience that would be pleasurable
Place was pretty dead on a Monday. I am sure the weekends make for a different story. Many people sell the same thing. So if you do not like a price from one person just move along and find it for a better price at the next vendor.
This place is a proper local market, its mostly fresh produce and not much else. We drove for over an hour to get here, really struggled to find somewhere to park, and were not made to feel very welcome by any of the locals. A lot of them just stared at us, it was quite uncomfortable actually!
Great place to visit.so many varieties of fruits and vegetables, food and meats .there is also places to sit and enjoy breakfast and lunch. So much spices, souvenir and more.
Lots of different items, mostly souvenirs. There was another side that was a food market which was cool. It was very hard to find souvenirs made by the locals. I was disappointed that the clothing items were commercially made in India. They tried to rip the tags off of the clothes so we wouldnt notice, but you could tell. The quality was sort of poor. Plus I saw an item where they missed the tag and you could see that it was made in India. I did find one vendor who made handcrafted leather sandals which were very nice.
The market had items the I could buy off Amazon. Shop owners would tell us they were handmade but each shop had the same things. If we paid in US dollars, they gave us change in EC dollars, a bit frustrating
The Fruit, Meat and Veg Market was for locals and very interesting, but the stalls are mainly tourist tat. A couple of nice things
People here just super friendly. Our taxi driver Charles in charge was excellent
Came here on a Tuesday! Market was quiet with not too much vendors. Everyone was friendly and I had a good time walking about getting some fresh fruits.
Definitely worth a visit - a combination of a fresh fish, fruit & veg market with a large section for souvenir stalls.A lot of prices in the touristy bit are quoted in US rather than Caribbean dollars so worth checking beforehand, but most stalls have price tags on things so although maybe you could haggle, starting prices do not seem to be determined by how rich you look!Expect to be called over by every stall owner to look through their wares but its all very friendly. The various street food kitchens in the market sell fantastic Caribbean food at great prices; look out for vendors selling tamerind juice, also known as local juice from cool boxes (it looks a little like dirty orange water but tastes fantastic), and the worlds happiest ice cream vendor pushing his cart, selling fresh locally made ice cream.
Fun market featuring lots of the normal fare - some nice handmade items, local sauces, dried spices, clothing, and of course your typical magnets/keychains/shot glasses. Friendly sellers who were not pushy at all. We never felt uncomfortable saying no and never felt pressured. They are just eager to make a living but respectful if you say no.If youre coming from other areas in St.Lucia, I recommend having a taxi and/or a guide help you navigate and take you to the market entrance. Castries is much more busy than other parts of St. Lucia with more traffic. (We used Marcs Taxi Service & Tours, highly recommend!)Browse all the shops first before making purchases as they have similar enough items - but you might find something you like better at a later shop. We only used EC not sure about other currency.
Fantastic experience! If youre into learning about local food culture and what fresh fruits and vegetables grow on the island, this market is the place to visit. Saturday mornings are the best time to visit the market. Alongwith fruits and veg, they also sell meat and fish, and local handicrafts. The vendors are friendly, and not pushy. I would recommend this market for a well-rounded local cultural experience. Once youve finished with he market, buy some local breakfast or lunch and sit at one of the bars and enjoy the vibe.
Fantastic open market with fruits and vegetables, that are fresh and reasonalble priced. Fun place to visit and mix with locals.
I think the Central Market was the only place that I did not enjoy in St Lucia. Some sellers were really nice, while some others (a particularly agresive speaking ladywere less welcoming (even after I bough some tamarind sweets from her she yelled at me for not being more chatty). It was also difficult to negociate when buying items in bulk - we wanted to but several cacao sticks (for cocoa teafor friends and family. Prices were slightly higher than the supermarkets. We find a nice lady selling tasty fried bakes and we also bought from here a delicious local juice.
Place is good and you can enjoy the local music on the street side
This is a lovely place to shop for local craft and trinkets , met a lovely vendor by the name of Winifred booth c stall 70 so much was in store and wonderful bubbly personality
Great place to interact with the locals. Guavas, mangoes, Coconuts, bananas etc. fresh and just off the farm. Enjoyed the most delicious fruit breakfast and only £2! I am visiting Creole Kitchen again to taste their delicious food! A bottle of pure fresh natural Guava juice for Rs: 100
I love the upgrade that was made the Vendors are so caring and warm.
We went to be able to support the local market by buying some souvenirs. When we got there we were greeted by a tall senior Rastafarian who looked me in the eye and in a deep voice said "welcome to the real world"That alone was worth the trip, a little wake up call. The locals hardshíps are evident at the markets they try so hard to get by selling their wares.
Been in to castries today the capital of st lusia friendly people lots of gifts to buy in the indoor markets lots small bars to have a drink .you can walk in to the centre from the shops its not far not a lot of thinks to see but watch the locals going about there day
The rustic feel of decades old culture was palpable with each step I took in and around this vintage market place. I smelled the scents of the ancestors. I walked the streets they walked, and I ate the nectars of the Gods.
Loved this craft market! The perfect place to find locally made crafts and souvenirs. A must do in St. Lucia.
Plenty of duty free shops and not much harrassment 🇱🇨
Strolled around here for breakfast and shopping. Got some bake and fish and it was delicious. Just for 5 Caribbean dollars for 3 of us. Had a good time. For shopping prices were way inflated. Got some nice bracelets, hot sauce and local spices.
Great place to get locally made items. Great souvenirs, clothing and accessories.
Enjoyed checking out the market, clean place organized and everyone was friendly and not pushy to buy their goods. The locally grown food looked amazing must be the fertile soil. I tried some Black Pudding (blood sausagefrom a sweet gentleman named Julius which was so good, best I’ve had in a long time I ended up buying more struck up a convo and just chatted with him for a while. Got some beautiful things for myself and a few friends and look forward to coming back the next time I’m in St Lucia. It definitely worth a trip when you’re in Castries.
Very commercial, basically where you would go through if you just got off a cruise ship. But prices are very reasonable
Most remarkable experience. Fresh fruits and vegetables, fish eggs you name it. I loved it jam packed with freshness. Coconuts freshly picked. You can drink and eat the flesh right there on the spot. Awesome you must experience it.
There are many different stalls available selling a variety of souvenirs. Depending on how many cruise ships are in port that day will determine how expensive the items are. I found very little wiggle room to negotiate on prices.
