Castle of Kruja - Castle in Puke, Albania
Beautiful traditional city. Lots of shops and eateries. Go for the traditional food. Be prepared to walk. Not stroller friendly since the roads are made of rocks and stones.
Beautiful medieval castle! The old bazaar right before getting to the castle is really impressive as well. Narrow little streets are really picturesque and full of vendors selling all kinds of souvenirs.
the city and the castle are worth a visit and a stroll through its streets. Do not go to the Emiliano restaurant, it is a scam, cold, dry and expensive. we ordered wine and they served us a disgusting wine which we refused.
The Castle of Kruja is a historic place for Albanian people, but also for those I who visiting the country for first time. When we arrived at the Castle, outside started heavy raining, but it didn’t stop us to enjoy and like the place.
A must-visit place. It was built in the 5th or 6th century, perched above the eponymous city. It was the center of Skanderbegs 25-year long rebellion against the Ottoman Empire that started in 1443.
Mountain road is pretty desolate, but the castle is still absolutely worth seeing. Great museum dedicated to the memory of Skanderbeg, the Albanian national hero who kept the Ottomans out of Europe for 25 years
A very interesting place. There is much to see and learn and the view of the mountain is gorgeous!
The "castle" was actually built in the 1980s and houses the museum. Very little remains of the actual castle. So the photos and descriptions are a bit misleading. However the ruins of the old castle are on top of a scenic overlook and on clear days you can see the Adriatic Sea. The town of Krujë is perched on top of a steep hill and is a pleasant place to walk around. The old cobblestone streets through the bazaar are worth checking out, however the shops are just one trinket shop after another strictly for your tour bus crowds.
Beautiful place with amazing scenery. The museum and old bazar are worth a visit to see and learn about albanian history and culture.
Historic place for 3 ages ,Roman , Albanian, ottoman
A must-visit historical place to get a glimpse of Albania’s history. They only accept cash. Entrance fee is 500 Lek
Beautiful place for visiting my family likes this and its been a good day.
Magnificent views, handcrafted goods, delicious food in small restaurants. A place full of history. Spotters bonus - you can observe planes landing and starting from Tirana airport.
Kruje is a great city with glorious history, the castle is in good condition, the fact that people still live inside the walls make it more interesting and warm to visit. Tge museums are great. It is a super nice way to spend the day not far from Tirana
Now this is a must on the sight seeing list. very interesting location with a museum explaining the history of Albania. The staff in the museum were extremely nice!
Little hidden gem in Albania. The castle is very well maintained and the museum inside is really insightful (500 lek entrance fee). The surrounding area is very welcoming with a cosy bazar
Place is well saved, interesting history. But you need to have a cash everywhere because nowhere credit cards are accepted
One of the oldest castles in Albania perched atop a hill overlooking the city.Has been well restored and has a nice range of dining optionsGreat ethnic Market nearby
Cool castle free entrance unless you want to visit the museum but almost everything is cheap around Albania. Also an interesting bazar.
Wonderful athmosphere, great museums.
Interesting history and cool views. Especially nice that the museum had english texts too. Wasnt aways like this throughout albania
A must visit in Albania and the history is great.Make sure you visit the museum. The viewsfrom the castle are impressive!
Perfect for a little stroll. Castle in great shape. Great view from viewpoints. All that for free. Museum costs extra.
Stunning! We walked through the market up to the castle and on the way back stopped for some authentic Albanian food.
I love the investment on castle. Yes for most it looks like something normal but you should consider that the castle surived the ottoman raids so many times as in the end they almost destroyed it completely in rage. 😂
Stunning place. Very nice spot 😍
We loved the castle and it really showed everything in details!
A beautiful place, worth visitting while in Albania.
Not easy to get there especially in the weekend, but it worth visiting the castle and have coffee or lunch the after that in the nice places next to the castle. Safe paid parking space available near by.
The Skenderbeu museum should of been the best in the country but after visiting a lot of museums all over the country, this one left a lot to be desired. There was no storytelling as you walked through the building floors, just a bunch of scattered artifacts, mostly replicas.
A perfect place to learn the story of Albania and national hero Skenderbeu. Very clean and curated place.
Really wonderfull place, amazing views.Nice muzeum, entrance 400 LEK/person.
A fairly steep climb, through the old market filled with gift shops, to get up to the castle and visitor centre.Castle is free to visit but visitor centre has €5 entrance fee (at time of writing)The climb is worth it for the views alone and it is easy to see why it resisted three seiges!
One of the prettiest place Ive ever seen in my life. (And Ive visited 36 countries!)
Very beautiful 😍 and very excited place, amazing 🤩
Very nice room w/ balcony. 30 Euro, breakfast included! Great owner and staff.
My wife and I visited the castle on a beautiful January day, and the museum wasnt open, but walking around exploring for a couple of hours was very enjoyable.
A must visit in Albania and the history is great. Make sure you visit the museum. The views from the castle are impressive
Loved it! I went to Kruje with my friends and we had so mutch fun watching all of that stuff. The restaurants were near us and the old baazar too. Entering the museum was a whole different thing, it was crazy and awesome. Old pictures, old flags and other old things that represent Albania in the past. The only problem in the museum was that you were not allowed to take photos but we didnt really care because we were magnified. Awesome I totally recomend it!
Interesting musem, but definitely do it with a guide, specially if your knowledge of Albanian history is none. Is it worth the trip from Tirana? Mmmmmmm…maybe for the views. The “Castle” is actually the reconstructed building that is now the museum. There is a really cute street full of shops.
Beautiful castle with a lot of history!!! Kruja is a place where you should go if you are in Albania!!
The castle itself is beautiful, standing there as an immortal testament to the times gone by. It is, however, out and about Kruja itself where you get the feel for the place - from the stunning sights to the bazaar just a short walk from the castle. Go there and bask in the beauty that is Albania!Oh, and the restaurant at the foot of the castle, unexpectedly, is really, really good. The food was surprisingly great.
The castle isnt big and wont take much time to explore. It has the Skanderbeg museum and the ethnographic museum and some cafes. I really loved the ethnographic museum and I recommend it. I didnt get a chance to visit the Skanderbeg museum though. The castle is full of panoramic views that produce awesome imagery and the scenes are magnificent. Youll get both the mountains and the city of Kruja in the background. Very beautiful.
This review is about 1 week Visit to Albania in the month of October 2021. Generally, the flight was pleasant, and the ticket was cheap and all that is due to the pandemic and the world just started to open. We stayed in the city of Tirana, the capital of Albania, It was long flight, with no service at all with no entertainment on board. Just few passengers and we are all with Masks. On arrival the weather was nice, some days were cold, others were with clear sunny skies. Make sure to have right comfy shoes, clothes and small backpack going with you all the time. Hotels are Cheap and very much affordable with minimal services and comfort, as we are on the go, that should be fine. Crime. Public security is generally good, particularly in Tirana, and Albanians are very hospitable to visitors. Crime and violence do occur in some areas. Food is bit challenging, but its as per your budget and taste. Most of the places can be visited in 30 minutes or less. Castle of Krujë is one must go to place, the Castle withstood three massive sieges from the Turks respectively in 1450, 1466 and 1467. The Kruja Bazaar is famous for being one of the oldest in Albania, also the Skanderbeg square. Churches, Wine Houses, fine dining, happy hours and all what you desire. Where every you go, first option is cash
Beautiful castle with a gorgeous view over the country. Picturesque landscape, two museums and a traditional restaurant with swings
A nice place to make a quick visit to and take some nice photos from the top with the panorama view ... also there is a nice traditional market next to the castle
The castle and the old town is nice, the bazaar is not so big,so many rugs and silver jewerly. Good parking place under the castle.
Love it! it’s really a nice place with lots of souvenirs & nice restaurants. we drove there from tirana & it took us around 2h. It was slightly jam & crowded. the sunset is so beautiful.
A magnificent castle complex on a hill overlooking the historical city of Krujë. Definitely a must-see if youre staying in the area or passing through. You can see as far as Tirana and Adriatic Sea from the top.The castle features two museums and a handful of historical buildings and other structures. The entrance to the castle itself is free, both museums are paid and definitely worth a visit.
Great place for walk, visiting and learning some historical facts about the country! For entry into the main building of the castle have an entrance fee which is not much. Includes also the ethnographic museum where its showed how people was living before. For me that was really interesting and really beautiful part of the place! Stuff is great. Place is kept clean. The zone around the castle is absolutely free of charge. Great spot for photos and views!
