Château de, 24540 Biron, France, Agen
Imposing, 16th-century, hilltop castle with fortifications & circular towers, plus audio guides.
Beautiful building with interactive displays
Great place to visit and the history of the place made it a great afternoon out
Nice castle to visit but 10€ ticket was way too expensive.
Absolutely a disgrace. 1000 years, nice building, but no organisation, nothing to see and I felt even scammed because two or their big salons have even set for permanent expositions.Perhaps, the only nice thing I could find is discovering the castle was used as a set for some films, including the 2001 brotherhood with wolfs (V. Cassel and M. Bellucci). If you dont know how to spend your 9.5 euros, I would suggest to keep it in the pocket.
The beautiful scenery and landscape from the Castle is breathtaking. Really nice place to visit.
Beautiful castle. As Mr. Biron sold all his furniture in the early 20th c. there is not that much stuff to admire inside.
Great Château on top of the hill, very beautiful, wonderful views to and from the castle. Very much worth the visit. There will be stairs
Very nice castle, audio tour in several languages. Enjoyable visit. Great views. With the tickets you get a discount for 2 other locations.
The most amazing Chateau I have ever visited. The panoramic views from the top were unbelievable!
We had a great hour or so wandering around this huge piece of history. The lady at the ticket booth was lovely, very friendly and so was her colleague who was sitting outside. She slowed down her French enough that we could understand the info she was giving about the route round and the discount you get at Cadouin Cloisters if you show them your tickets from Biron (they were once owned by the same famoly). There is an English booklet that you read on the way round or an App that you can download to give you an audio guide with QR codes in each room to scan. We couldnt be bothered with downloading an app so used the paper guide. It was slightly out of order compared to the way you traverse the rooms but really didnt matter. We really appreciated that the place had not been decked out top to toe in furniture, some rooms were very sparse but actually the lack of distractions made you appreciate the history and age of the rooms and their purpose. The restoration of the parquet floor that has been done is stunning, there is a before display to show you just how much work has gone into it. Some of the buildings and rooms just ooze age and you really feel what it would have been like to live in them. If you like the history of Simon De Montfort and Henry Plantagenet, this castle is for you.The views are enough to make the visit worth it, they were stunning, I think 30km all around. We also stood on the roof and watched a Military cargo plane fly by low which was an added bonus. On a side note, there are loos (very importantand they had actually been built inside the castle which was surprising. In addition, there are also loos at the back of the information centre in the village which were frankly the cleanest public loos I have encountered in France so worth noting.
A beautiful chateau with equally beautiful views. Has a local artists gallery/shop and restaurant in the grounds.
We visited off season so had much of the place to ourselves. The scale of Chateau de Biron is impressive and it stands out across the country. There is access to most of the house and the building and interior wont disappoint. Neither will the views from upper levels
Great castle!
A pleasant drive through the French countryside on a warm November day .. and then .. there it is, rising above everything. Impossible to miss, and worth every second we spent enjoying the view!
My brother and Sister-in-Law live in Monflanquin, France and took us to see the Castle. It is absolutely beautiful! There is a small, inexpensive fee to enter and tour the castle. We loved it!
The castle itself is very beautiful and the location is superb, views from the castle all around are stunning. Because the castle is empty, you dont really get an idea of how it must have been living there. The experience would be much better if the rooms were decorated and furniture would be present. Nonetheless, well worth the visit.
Great castle with amazing views!
Beautiful medieval castle with a bar opposite the entrance. Would be 5 star but disabled access is very limited. Admire from a distance if youre in a wheelchair!
Been a couple of times. This time we went for the tapestry exhibition. We are exactly aficionados but wow we lived it. There are docents to walk you through and educate you on what your seeing. Very helpful and friendly. Best part is that after viewing the old tapestries that are hundreds of years old you then are treated to modern day tapestry - so cool!! But the reason you visit is the château and we absolutely love it there. History and beauty.
Great place to visit with the kids!
Beautiful medieval castle, almost empty the day we explored, it was fun and exceeded expectations. Well worth going through and we would probably go again on a future trip to the area. They have a bistro across from the castle that is also worth a visit.
The Exhibition on tapestries through the ages to modern tapestry designs by such as Corbusier and Bracque was a stimulating wondrous experience. Not only the tapestries but a supporting film to guide gave and in depth understanding of how they were made and woven. The joyful colours and varied tapestries were not only a historical, record but a delightful memory of an afternoon at Chateau Biron.
Beautiful and well maintained. Visiting guide books a little disappointing.
Very nice castle, well preserved. We had the chance to visit during a tapestry exposition. Treasury hunt for the kids made it fun for the little ones
Beautiful château, very interesting. Highly recommend. Dog friendly.
Beautiful place, shame there is no furniture inside the castle. The grounds look amazing, even with the thunder !
An amazing place to travel in time and enjoy the view and the great landscape! The exhibition is great too!
Beautiful castle to visit. Easy access with the parking lots. Not so many things to do for children even if they enjoyed it
A verry nice castle. Because of some movies that were made here, the castle has had a serious face lift. At some location a bit over done renovations, probably to make it look good for the movie. The tour takes you through many room and courtyard. The view from the palissade and balconies is awesome. What beautiful landscape surrounds this imposing castle.
Impressive castle, well organized tour, integrated exhibitions of modern art, stunning views. Opportunity for drinks and snacks in the adjacent village.
Really beautiful castle in a nice setting. The visit is interesting and exciting. They also have some changing art exhibitions and events. I recommend it.
Fascinating place. Loved the art exhibition. Staff helpful and pleasant.
The staff were friendly, and the castle was mostly well maintained. However I felt it was overpriced (possibly due to the art exhibition in one of the hallsfor the time spent there. Its not very big and not Id say only a small part of it is actually accessible to the public. Parking is outside in the town.
A castle is in a great condition. Great views.
You can dine inside the castle walls for a great price! A complete menu for just €25,-. And the kids also have a good menu. And the view at the end of the day is amazing!
A worthwhile visit to one of the areas attractions, but some of the rooms need better decoration or dressing, as bit sterile, compared to many similar sites at home or en France. Not sure how far their restoration programme may take them. But stunning views of surrounding countryside and wish Commune well for future. Allow 1 - 2 hours, ample free parking but not suitable for those with mobility issues.
Great attraction, amazing Château, fun and interesting for adults and children.
The best part is the view of the castle from afar; impressive! After having paid your entrance and going through the halls, only disappointment remains. The entire interior is gone (sold?); only empty rooms remain... One can only imagine the long gone grandeur of the castle. The audioguide uses a different path than the brochure handed out at the entrance... Better to just use the free Semitour app (Android & iOSinstead of paying for the audioguide.
The outside is spectacular but the inside very disappointing. Empty room after empty room. The English language guide sheet didnt match against the rooms so we usually didnt know which room we were in.I would not recommend. There are much better chateau to visit.
Great day out, lovely castle, stunning setting.
Nice castle from the outside, but inside theres nothing to see, not worth your money. Its great just to take a few photos and continue on your trip.
A great chateau to visit and one of the more well preserved ones. It has great views all over and has much to visit inside. To break up the visit inside, there’s games and activities such as archery and indoor activities to partake in at no additional cost.If you didn’t purchase an audio guide like us, you may struggle to understand and appreciate the history behind this chateau. There are QR codes at each point of interest but as we didn’t use them, we’re unsure if this provides you with any information at all.Overall a great place to visit and if your trip is limited to a few chateaus, this should be included as one of them.
A fantastic castle, combining elements of different periods (medieval, Renaissance, XVIII centuryinto an imposing building. Fantastic view over the surrounding countryside, and temporary contemporary art exhibits.
Fascinating opportunity to view a Chateau that has been in the same family for centuries. Great views, easy drive up access and loads of history to absorb. You can borrow an English language booklet to guide your tour or hire the audio guide.
Lovely castle. Lots of stairs to climb and explore and amazing views of the surrounding countryside. Would be nice if there had been some things to see in the rooms. But all rooms were empty. We still enjoyed the visit.
Rather disappointing. Impressive castle but no displays or furnishings. The audio guide was confusing - at least our poor minds lost track.
Simply fantastic. In our visit in Feb 18, we were the only visitors. Dramatic views, enclosed courtyards, amazing balconies, turrets, garderobes, battlements, spiral staircases... Amazing building. Highly recommended.
Nice castle overlooking the region. Only building is left (no furniture). Uphill walk from free steet parking and stairs inside. History of castle very interesting so a guided tour or guide is useful. It stayed in same family for about a thousand years!
Surprised at how much I enjoyed this place. All the signs, displays and talks appear to be in French but it is a beautiful castle. Make sure you go to all rooms right up to the top as the views are amazing.
Multiple castles in one. Great panoramas.
