N2690 Castle Rock Rd, St Ignace, MI 49781, United States, Thessalon
Kitschy spot with a Paul Bunyan statue & stairs to the top of a limestone rock with lake views.
Is great experience only a dollar awesome views
Castle Rock is a fun must do thing when going through St. Ignace. The steps are a bit rough but most people can accomplish the climb. The view is the best part, as you can see for miles in any direction. I enjoy the gift shop. Admission is $1 per person. Plus they have Paul and Babe!
They have everything fenced off because no one seems to respect nature on this side of the bridge. Everything is graffiti and there is so much trash. The stairs to the rock are pretty easy to do. The views are alright. Ive seen better for completely free and with no trash.
I always enjoyed Castle Rock as a child and I enjoyed it just as much as an adult. $1 entry and a beautiful view of the bridge from the top. I will always recommend castle rock to anyone going into the Upper Peninsula!
Breathtaking. Both literally and figuratively. The steps up are a killer but the view at top makes it all worthwhile. Thank you for having the foresight to place two separate resting areas on the way up. I may not be in the best of shape but it was refreshing to see that people in much better shape than myself were also struggling. The view at the end was amazing. I would share a picture but that would feel like cheating, take the time to make the climb. Can imagine just how amazing it would look when the leaves start to change, unfortunately I visited too soon for that. Maybe next time.
It was a little too much for me, I enjoyed it but I wont ever do it again though but will shop there.
Fun little tourist trap to take the family. The view at the top of the rock is worth the admission. Big selection of shirts and other touristy items to purchase in the gift shop.
Spectacular view very pretty and peaceful when you reach the top. The stairs are rough but totally doable. It doesnt take long and not much else to do but climb to the top and check out the gift shop which is also big and got some pretty cool stuff but definitely a place to check out if you have some free time
Did this with my children and my mom last week was a lot of fun and the views were beautiful!
The stairs were a lot I will say that but a great workout!! So worth it once you reach the top, I was speechless ❤️
I remember going there when I was a kid all the time and now Im taking my children there. Things havent changed much , Paul Bunyan maybe a little bit smaller other than that still awsome to build those memories and traditions to come........Shawn Solis
Loved climbing to the top of the rock. Definitely was not prepared for all those stairs but it was still amazing!
This place is great for kids. I went when I was a kid and then came back as an adult. Its only $1 to get in and pretty cool. If you have a group of people who have already done a good bit of hiking or maybe you from out west, this is not going to be anything spectacular.
Lots of stairs! Exceptional views.
Very beautiful view here. I highly recommend stopping if you have never been. It is a steep walk up the stairs but they do have a bench halfway up to stop and rest if needed
Helpful staff, lots of souvenir choices, great exercise and a view of the whole area.
Had fun, lots of steps to the top,but worth it for the view
Great views if you can manage the steps and the heights. Cash only to climb the rock, but its only $1. The store on site has friendly employees with cute local merchandise, fairly priced. They do accept credit cards for the merchandise.
Only $1 per person - not many sites you can visit with the kids for that price. 171 stairs. Great views and gift shop.
I cool tourist stop, if you climb plan to take a little time. The views from the too are beautiful.
Thats place has a great gift shop. One of the cheapest in the area with all the same stuff. Nice wide parking spots and it was only a dollar to climb the rock. On Saturday there was a craft fair with local artists.
We had a great time at Castle Rock!! The climb was fun with the family, beautiful scenery when at the top!! The shop was awesome, our family found a lot of great souvenirs! Staff was very pleasant, answered many questions we had about the area! Can’t wait to be back!!
Lots of steps but so worth it! So much fun! Beautiful view 💗
Short walk up some steep stairs, but totally worth the $1 cost for the sweeping views.
The quick stop at Castle Rock was good. We were there on a Sunday and there was a small craft fair outside with some local vendors. Inside the shop was rustic with some one of a kind treasures. We did not climb the rock as we were on a tight time schedule, however it was the most inexpensive tourist attraction in the area!
Bring water! Lol its quite a trek up, but well worth it! The kids loved the gift shop they have so many cool thing I could spend all day in there shopping. Highly recommend you stop in if youre visiting the area, this is a must see attraction
It’s been almost 50 years since I’ve been back to Castle Rock in St. Ignace Michigan. It brings back many happy memories as a child. I highly recommend a stop to visit this memorable and scenic landmark.
Only one dollar to walk up less than two hundred stairs with two landings to take a seat on the bench if needed. Pet friendly! Very pretty little path ascending above the trees with a lovely veiw of the lake. An enjoyable and affordable family outing, the store on location has lots of cute trinkets and souvenirs.
Very nice well worth the $1 to climb to the top.
171 steps to the top, but a great view once you get there. Only $1 per person to go up, which is very reasonable. There are a couple stop offs on the way up with benches which helps. The view at the top is expansive with chain link fence around the area to keep kids safe.
Must visit place, only a dollar per person for beautiful views, huge gift shop. Be prepared to exercise appropriately 172 steps of stairs plus landings to get to the top, benches at most of the landings to rest in between, well worth it for the views, you wont want to leave the top.
Amazing view. It is worth to climb all those stairs.
An amazing view great for a cheap spot for the famy to view the local area.
Underwhelming tourist trap, but its one of the sights! Lol. The staff were all very polite.
Fun roadside attraction with a vertigo inducing overlook. Be prepared to hike up a ton of steps some pretty steep. Admission was super cheap if I remember correctly so buy a souvenir in the gift shop. Not for those afraid of heights. Bring your camera!
Be prepared for about 200 steps straight up. If you are afraid of heights this may not be for you. But there is a couple resting spots on the way up. Its only $1 so good deal. Also a gift shop on site where I got some squatchin shirts.
Check out the ceiling inside the souvenir shop. Pretty incredible. Food service. Rock a little lack luster.
Better be in shape, I didnt remember it being so much work when I was 9 yrs old 🤣. My kids made it look effortless, at least they have resting spots on your way up.. After my slow and steady climb it was definitely worth it for the amazing view. Great workout too.
Its a bit of a climb up, something like ten flights, but the overlook is absolutely amazing. They charge you a dollar to do it and only take cash for some reason, but its worth it. The view is gorgeous.
It wasnt really an special place. There is $1 charge to go up there. Be ready to climb some stairs. Its not difficult though.
A great place to come with or with out kids. I’ve been coming to this spot since I was a young kid. Killing time wondering around there shop looking at all the nicknacks and climbing the rock to check the amazing view is a must.
The people were very friendly. The store was interesting. Found some fun souvenirs and gifts. We did not climb Castle Rock, but it was only $1 per person.
Whew!! Lots of steep steps, but worth the hike. At $1/person, totally worth it! Had a fun gift shop. Easy parking
This place is beyond beautiful. It does have over 180 stairs straight up (yes I countedIf you have bad knees this isnt the thing to hike up. Just like almost anything in Michigan the sight is breath taking!!
Nice place to visit right off the highway. Walk up a few flights of stairs and you can see almost 360 degrees around you. They are even dog friendly and dogs are free. They also have a shop with a whole lot of souvenirs.
Good spot for quick glance to UP Michigan beauty. Need to climb steps to reach at top of the rock. You can quickly wrap it up in 15-20 minutes. Not much to do apart from roaming in the adjacent gift shop.
It has a great view and a cute souvenir shop. Many steps to climb with a few landings with benches for rest. The cost was $1 per person on our visit.
Good tourist place to stretch your legs and get a great view. Price is good since they know you are buying something on the way out. But over all just a great view and well worth the effort of going up the stairs. The big blue ox and Paul are a plus also.
NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART. The walk to the top was a little rough. There are a couple spots where you can stop and take a break, but they were some pretty intense steps up. Definitely NOT handicap accessible. The view from the top was beautiful! If heights aren’t your thing, you probably won’t want to walk out on the rock. They have a cute gift shop that you pass through to get to the rock and when you come back down. Restrooms inside were out of order when we visited (5-30-2021), but they had a couple of porta potty’s in the parking lot.Admission was $1/person and well worth it for something cheap to do. Good family fun. Kudos to all of the parents that had to carry their kids up and down the stairs.Pets are welcome as long as they are on a leash. 🐕🐕🦺. **Please pick up after your pets**
Great little roadside attraction with beautiful views. Its only $1 to climb the stairs to the top of the rock, which if you travel you know is a steal for any kind of attraction. The stairs may give some trouble as they are steep and there are quite a few of them, but the views are worth it.
