Piazza Castello, 34, 25019 Sirmione BS, Italy, Montichiari
Unique 13th-century castle surrounded by water, with steep climbs leading to scenic lake views.
Jaw dropping setting, fantastic views, the pictures really don’t do it justice. We were part of a group so I can’t comment on the admission cost, but I enjoyed the time inside so I’m sure it was value for money. Some steep steps, but what would you expect from a castle!
Beautiful place . You can have dinner or ice cream on the beautiful restaurants inside it.
I finally arrived in Sirmione. I put off this trip for quite a few years. I am very satisfied with the city and its surroundings. The castle is extraordinary and worth a visit. Only €6 per person
The castle is beautiful and worth visiting if you around this area. I got to this castle by a boat from Desenzano, It’s a very beautiful trip through lake Garda.
I was there 2 days ago, it was calm, clean, historical and peaceful place, but prices were higher, except that I like here.
Lovely view of lake Garda and some great gelato shops around the castle! Maybe hard to get parking 🅿️ so better to use public parking few hundred meters before the castle.
I visited Sirmione on Monday but the Scaligero Castle was nor working that day. Even though I was not able to see the castle from inside, the outside view of the Castle is also pretty magnificent and Sirmione is also worth it to be visited
Except for the few good views from top, not much to explore. But surprisingly, it keeps getting crowded on weekends. We had to wait for almost 30mins to get the ticket and access inside on a Sunday. One visit is on, and I would be surprised if you return here.
Love Sirmione. We always go to the Thermal waters at Aquaria. Best period is definitely winter time. There is something magical about this oalce
Nice location, superb service, food was fine, good presentation and good flavors, nothing truly special, besides the service. Liked the atmosphere with the heaters which presented with its fire a cosy feeling.
There is only one way to reach castle and that is via walking ... No rides are allowed. There is entry fee for castleAnd it is closed on Monday. As we went on Monday it was closed .As you keeping walking you will find many gilato ice cream shops with many varieties and shopping street and the end there is beach named as Jamaica beach which is Stony beach
The castle is very beautiful, no entry fee to see the courtyard. There are some museums inside too.
A must do in Sirmione. Reasonably cheap to get in and fabulous views from the top. You can walk the ramparts and also go up the tower.
One of the main attractions in sirmione and the best view of the peninsula. A must see for people that loves history and castles.
Beautiful place but didnt go inside as we were busy looking around and walking everywhere. Church across from the entrance is worth a visit.
I came here for a geological field trip. So, I could not see much. But the place is really nice. Apart from the castle, there is a public beach which can be visited without any cost. I will come back again.
Did not enter but viewing the outside in the sunshine was worth the visit. Sat in a restaurant nearby and enjoyed talking about the castle and its construction and beautiful colours. Visit the inside maybe next time we visit this part of the lake.
Excellent view from the top of the tower. The tremendous amount of work they put into restoration shows. Id advise everyone to be there early, to avoid the masses.
Sirmione is a tourist destination to visit and spend a weekend of quiet and relaxation, surrounded on three sides by the waters of the Garda, it is possible to visit it on board the boats, discovering its beauty on every side.F.F.
Beautiful location for your vacation at lake Garda. Amazing piece of history and just an overall recommendable place to visit. Once you enter through the gate of the castle youll find a myriad of small shopping alleyways, restaurants and most importantly ice cream shops. Make sure to bring water as theres little shade and it can get quite hot in the summer
Definitely a must see if you were passing by Garda, a beautiful touristic place, we went on a a weekend afternoon in August, so it was extremely crowded, Im sure it would be much nicer in September or October. We went with 3 kids , one of them on a stroller which was not A problem. The only thing to take care of is in the narrow streets where few cars passes it might need you to be extra careful with infant strollers. Pa: a gelato is a must to complete the Sirmione experience!
Nice visit to the island and this castle is one of the main attractions. One side is being renovated so lots of scaffolding is present on the beach side (no photo ops)
We loved visiting Sirmione and in particular the castle. Its beautifully maintained, and not too expensive to enter. The children adored climbing to the top to see the magnificent views. Absolutely worth a visit
A super interesting spot to visit. A bit windy on the top, its ideal to chill and stroll for a refreshing mind.
I don’t think it is worth to come from a distant lake location to here honesty. We spent 1,5 hours reaching the castle and in the end we had a exhausting experience of crawling through very busy streets of the old city packed with people eating ice cream, making photos and just pushing each other. This is a beautiful place I think when no one is around
We were actually staying in a hotel inside the castle. When you arrive and walk thro the main gate its like a fairytale. With the narrow streets, beautiful food in the restaurants and beautiful things in the shops. We were even treated to a lighting storm whilst we were here. Amazing. Well worth a visit or even better stay in a hotel here.
Very beautiful place many tourists. It is recommended to go all the way to the beach. The lemonade in the entrance it not good we bought 4 lemonade each was different one from the other and two of them were too sorrow.
Cool castle to see. We didn’t go inside as it looked nice from the outside and there was a big queue.
A bit touristy, but still a nice place. Lots of shops and such, if youre into that stuff, but theres also a lot of beautiful sights to see.
A stunning medieval castle overlooking Sirmione peninsula. It was built by the Della Scala family of Verona, also known as Scaligeri, in the 14th century. There is an entrance fee of 6€ (3€ for EU citizensfor adults. Completely free for children under the age of 18.If you wanna do additional site seeing you can get a 14€ full access ticket which also lets you into Archaeological site of Grotte di Catullo and the Roman villa in Desenzano.Inside the castle you can walk on the walls and climb the highest tower which gives an amazing 360 view of the city and the Garda lake.Take extra care when climbing the stairs as they are very narrow, short, and steep.Streets around the castle get very crowded and it’s very hard to find a parking spot nearby.Streets are narrow and open for car traffic so you will often have to either stop and let the car pass or hurry a bit not to cause traffic jams.
Relatively small but very well kept castello. The tower provides a refreshing panoramic view to the entire penninsula. There are nothing much to view around though, and the dock is only open on certain weekdays.
a beautiful tourist attraction very busy and for the ice cream lovers...so much choice.lively to walk, shop and eat outside in gorgeous cafes and bars and restaurants.this in the place on Lake garda Italy calledSimioni? spelling dodgy...go there its lovely.
Old town of Sirmione with beautiful cobblestoned pathways. I highly recommend doing the walk along the beach which ends at a bar where you can enjoy an aperol spritz. This place can get extremely crowded so you will have to dodge people 😅
Well worth the €6 entry fee and the view from the keep is amazing. Sympathetically restored since 1919 and a must-see place in the area.
Sirmione is beautiful. Garda lake is amazing, food is excellent, the boat trip energizing. The castle itself is a fine example of the Medieval architecture. Love it.
This is a beautiful place to visit. If you climb the tallest tower you get fabulous views of rhe Town of Sirmione and surrounding are. Be warned, there are lots of steps so if you have difficulty walking it may not be the right place for you.
This was a fantastic place to visit .Children go free too. We visited Sirimone and enjoyed going up & around this amazing piece of hostory. Be warned you have one set of steps to go around the main first level which has great views, however to go right up in the top of the tower there are further steps too. But for an amazing 360° views its so worth it. Also the displays at the top help you know which direction certain towns around the Lake are too. You can also go out the back to where the boats would of come in on certain days/times so plan ahead and check the website.
Fantastic place of interest and loads to see including medieval Castle.Very busy town full of tourists and big ferry ques.Loads of shops and restaurants to visit and food is great and not expensive
Part of a lakeside road trip. Beautiful place to visit. Car parking available, usual food, drink and ice-cream outlets.
Majestic castle fronting the gate to town. Excellent photo shoot opportunity. A great first impression of Sirmione.
Very nice place to see, worth to reserve some time to walk through small streets. In the castle you need to walk many stairs, so people who fo not like hight should avoid to enter castle.
Such a beautiful and stunning castle, the surrounding medieval castle is also a wonder to be seen. The castle was only 6euros and kids were free, bargain!
Great spot. Lots of Stairs, but thats to be expected as there werent any lifts in the day..!!Terrific insight into Fortification Life.
Took the boat tour for 30min. It was a nice relaxing trip around the island. Cost was 10 euro per person.
Access by bicycle to the historic center of Sirmione is not allowed during the summer season (not even if you are not actually on the bike). Of course there is no secured parking for the bikes near by so keep this in mind when planning your visit. Weve seen quite a few bikers (including ourselvesdisappointedly turn around at the entrance.
A place worth visiting. The castle is very nice. Also the panorama of the lake. Very crowded on weekends and full season. Parked 3 km away because of thousands and thousands of cars looking for a parking spot.
Nice walk to/around the castle, for any age. Multiple occassions to buy gelato, get drink or coffee. Quite crowded but still very pleasant fpr familly trip.
Awesome place to visit. Beautifully restored with amazing views. Lots of steps up to the keep but worth it when you get there. Worth reading the pamphlet that you are given as it explains the history and different parts.
One of the most amazing places I have ever seen. A quick day trip from Bergamo and very family friendly.
The actual Castello is well presented and worth a visit. The only opportunity would be for the staff to perhaps provide more details on its history and purpose. The whole experience was good though as was the surrounding village.
