Amazing place to stay if you’re visiting Antigua. The architecture is just magnificent. They restored some of the places of the old convent and it gives you a feeling of being in the past.We where there for a wedding, amazing spot for destination wedding, they decorate everything so pretty and the place makes you feel surrounded by nature and history. They have a spa, didn’t get to visit but reviews are super good. Tuesday’s and Wednesdays they have special prices. The restaurant is absolutely amazing, great local gourmet food.Do recommend booking a shuttle, it’s around 30usd per person, they pick you up at the airport and take you back to the city when you need to.Totally recommend it!

I got here early in the morning and the receptionist was so disrespectful and her welcoming was check in is until 3 pm. I knew that and all I wanted was to leave my bag. Came back at 1:30 pm to see the possibility to get a room before 3 pm but the receptionist said in a very unfriendly manner “I already told you check in is until 3 pm”.I just saw the receptionist give a room to to a client and asked if the 3 pm rule applies to all guest. The answer was yes, so I wondered why the other guest got a key and not me and now then excuse was that the part of the hotel where I’ll be staying is not cleaned up. The receptionist said I can move you to another part of the hotel but won’t change the rate you paid (obviously to a more economic room). This hotel is supposed to be a high end hotel in town but it seems at least the receptionists forget that and mistreat and disrespect their costumer.Hope the next couple of days during my stay will be better than the welcoming I got.

I have stayed at this hotel many times in 30 years.Like wine, some things age well and improve with time. Instead, the Casa Santo Domingo does not age well and turns to vinegar. I hope you appreciate the irony of a hotel that successfully accomplishes the feat of projecting well-preserved antiquity, but fails where most others succeed.Eye candy, mouth vinegar. Casa Santo Domingo is one of the most beautiful accommodations in the country. A sprawling, stunning, architectural and design masterpiece, this hotel also has an army of friendly staff throughout the premises. You cannot walk 20 meters anywhere in this expansive property without being greeted by every staff member you encounter. But that is where the honeymoon ends. The rooms are dated and I do not mean in the well-preserved antiquity sense. The bathroom was sparsely equipped with only two thin, Motel-6 quality bath towels. There were no wash cloths and only one cheap soap and cheap shampoo. Nothing else. Least not nothing else worth mentioning. The rooms are rife with a heavy odor of what seems like mold to the point of being offensive. This alone is reason enough to never stay here, especially if you have respiratory issues. The mattresses on the beds were hard as bedrock, harder than the bed I slept on in the army. The rooms do not have heat. Yes, there are times when it is needed. There is a fireplace with enough kindling to start a fire, but not enough to warm a room.Forget any real help at the front-desk. If you need a ride to Guatemala City or the airport for an early morning flight, this hotel will NOT make any arrangement to help you find transportation within 24 hours of the time you wish to travel. Repeat - unless you ask the concierge to arrange a ride at least 24 hours in advance, they will not even help you find a driver or car. Imagine how many people staying in this hotel for only one night learn this unfortunate policy - the hotel will do nothing for guests to get to the airport if they check in the hotel in the afternoon, less than 24 hours before departure.Friendly and beautiful does not make a resort or luxury property. There are other, more desirable hotel experiences in the area. What follows will be a desultory and totally unsatisfactory response from hotel management. Expect the same response followed by no-action when you stay at this hotel.

I’m giving this place a 4 star because next to our door entrance was a creepy Christian statue. It’s was super weird in then middle of the night. Also I didn’t like the creepy baby statues. I get it’s a museum but it doesn’t have the first thing I see when I walk in or walk out the door. The open air spa was very nice! Very romantic. I would highly recommend the experience. Although I couldn’t seem to find a unisex steam or dry Sauna. One comment is that when you leave to use the spa through the back Terrance there is no way to lock your doors! So anyone can just walk in. In addition there was no handles to pull the door open. The restaurant staff was very nice. But just know you will be paying New York like prices. Compared food in to the area.

I didnt stay at the hotel, so I cant talk about the rooms. But I went to the restaurant as well at the museums. The restaurant was good, the food and service were great. The museums, if youre here youve gotta check them out. A lot of them were centered on the history of the place. Youll see from catacombs, to colonial time art. Theres also a nice chocolate store.Ill warn you tho, the English translations in many of the items and signs arent the best. Most of them are okay tho. The only reason I know is bc Im fluent in Spanish. As a side note, the parrots are cute and are around the pool area, flying freely.

Perfect location when in Antigua, our suit was genial and spacious, we definitely used the jacuzzi and the roof patio, the service at the restaurant was also great for dinner and good for breakfast, all the people we encounter at this hotel were very welcoming and courteous, over all this place was great, the man at the front door was amazing.

Every time we go to Guatemala, we make sure we visit this hotel and stay at least one night. Their staff is very friendly, their gardens are amazing and at night when they light up the candles it is magical. The only reason I am not giving it a 5 is the room (#266we were assigned was not what I expected. I booked a suite and while the suite was awesome, it was located right next to a restaurant (not part of the hotel). We were woken up both nights at 2:30 am to furniture being moved around and people talking. This time we were not able to relax as in previous occasions. I wish the hotel would be more transparent on letting guests know that this suite may experience disruptions early in the morning.I highly recommend their spa. Their facitilities are amazing and their staff is great also.

This review is for the spa only - I had a deep tissue massage here and both the massage and the overall experience was excellent. Yes, its expensive for Antigua, and you can get cheaper massages elsewhere, but its worth it. Id rather pay more for a good massage than less for a bad one, because a bad one isnt going to do anything for my muscles. Plus you can come early or stay late to take advantage of the pool, jacuzzi, and sauna, if youd like. One complaint I usually have, especially at the fancier hotels and spas, is that they never apply enough pressure. That was NOT the case here. Here, the pressure applied was excellent, and they definitely listen to you when you ask for the pressure to be stronger or weaker. I like my massages to hurt a bit, because thats how you know theyre really getting deep into your muscles, and that was the case here. My muscles felt super relaxed afterwards.

Charged me twice for the entrance of museum just because the lady said the card payment didn’t work but it did cause I got the notification from my bank. Better pay in cash and avoid the scam from people of the reception. I don’t know why they offer you to pay with card if their system sucks!

We came for an Anniversary lunch & a tour of their small museums. Everything was delicious inc. a watermelon, shrimp and avocado salad that we had. Its also worth seeing their museums & love their Pre-Columbian & glass collection. The hotel grounds is kept immaculate as well. All the staff that we came across were friendly & very attentive.Thank you for the experience!

Save your time and money! Do not stay here!Santo Domingo hotel was my worse experience in Guatemala. We did our check in at the hotel and then we went to the room (we booked the suite room)When we got in, it had strong nice smell of eucalyptus it was nice, we were really impressed of the beauty of the room and hotel. We went out to walk around the town and see the local markets and a soon as we came back to the hotel room, we started to feel strong smell of Urine inside the room.We went to reception we spoked to the manager and they played like the didn’t know what we where talking about. He offered us to go and find out what was happening. Then he came back and offered us to move to a different room (around 8 pm).he said I went and fixed it for you. He left us a note and the spray to cover up more of the smell if we need it.We went back to the room and the smell was again nice of eucalyptus. We thought ok now it is gone, we decided to keep the room, around 10 pm we went to bed we were very tired of driving fromXELA, a soon as we started to fall sleep the smell came back again. We started to use the spray that they left us to use.But then every hour keep happening the smell coming back.We couldn’t sleep at all because of the smell so we decided around 5 am to better leave the hotel around that time because it was impossible for us to rest with that strong smell. We spend almost $500/ night to had a nice rest but it was the worse. The manager offered us at our check out to call us back with a solution or offered us something but they never called or send an email. I definitely do not recommend the hotel to anybody. The hotel is pretty, but poor customer service but the smell of urine definitely ruined our short stay in Antigua.

This place is an Experience, not just a hotel. If you come here expecting the "hotel" aspect to be the best thing, you will be disappointed. The best thing about this place is how the synergy of it all comes together to produce something utterly unique. You are transported to a different time with modern 21st century amenities. Every piece of furniture, so strategically placed down the hallways, is a relic of a time we only read about in history books.Ruins, that are a stroll away from your bedroom, ready to tell stories of centuries gone by, full of mystery, secrets, tragedies and joys. The staff, ready to assist at the drop of a dime, is a compliment to the experience in itself. The meals are fantastic and fine dining at its best!! I really enjoyed having my countrys flag displayed on our table during dinner, a very personal touch. If I had to improve on something, and only if i had to, it would be the check in process. It would have been nice to be directed to where the ammenities were located and what amenities were at your disposal. Perhaps a map of the grounds on your check in or in the room would have been helpful.Fantastic overall experience and kudos to the designers!!

Very bad service. Language barrier wasnt an issue as my partner speaks good Spanish.-no one greets you or helps with your bags despite the hotel being huge with many steps- the drinking water in your room is not free, they dont make this obvious. It is free as standard in every other hotel in Guatemala.- very large hotel, they dont tell you where your room is, nor do they tell you where anything is- was told we didnt need to book for dinner. Ended up waiting for 45 mins in a queue for a table.- the answer to every question is "no". Even asking if we could leave our bags by a member of staff in the lobby so we didnt have to drag them to reception and back was a firm no.- at breakfast they didnt tell us what was included and not. Wouldnt even let us sit by the garden but when other guests sat there they didnt move them.- ended up being charged for some pasta that was presented to us as being free.-food and rooms are mediocreAll in all a pretty terrible experience. There are much better places.Seems to be run by very junior staff who have too many guests to handle.

The website and its pictures do not do this place justice! This is a true 5-star hotel experience and can be considered a spa resort. The grounds of the hotel are absolutely massive and so beautiful, and the rooms are just amazing - we stayed in both a double bed room and a suite and were blown away by the space and cleanliness and amenities. The Sunday morning buffet breakfast is not to be missed, and the rooms adjacent to the spa allow full access to the jacuzzi, sauna, and heated pool all of which were incredibly luxurious. Room service was easy and such a treat, and all of the service staff was helpful and friendly. They even exchange foreign currencies at a very good rate - much better than what youll get at the airport. I hope to come back one day to enjoy it further!

Incredible lunch at Hotel Casa Santo Domingo. Surrounded by art and brick aged over centuries and staff trained by the gods, this is a must-visit for anyone staying more than a few hours in Antigua. While at this property be sure to visit some of the rotating art exhibits and countless historical artifacts at every turn. There is even a chocolate museum and confectionery on-site.Who knows… after the post-meal stroll across the property you might just get hungry again. You won’t need to go far!

Beautiful hotel - rooms, spa and the grounds were lovely. The one downside was that the bar was closed and took awhile to get a drink from the restaurant, but other than this it was a great retreat after many days hiking. The spa alone was worth the visit.

Great hotel, environment , history and culturePROS: Great history, kudos to the designers and architects who beautifully retained the ruins and built a hotel around it. Decent museums on the premise. If you are a history buff, this is your place. Great room service and other service professionals.CONS: not a great room. We got one of the bad ones. Water leaked from shower two days of the 4 days we stayed. Had to call support at odd hours. Very small patio and not well maintained. The one restaurant on premise has a great ambience, but food is probably average. Handful of items in breakfast buffet is good, but overall slightly average.Summary: May be a higher 3 star or 4 star.

This is the first review I’ve ever left and I wish it gave me the option to leave more than 5 stars. This is not my first time staying here but this hotel is truly immaculate. They run a very tight ship and everyone there is trained to make your experience unforgettable. The 5 star dining experience is unlike anywhere else I’ve traveled. I was observing the details of how they serve and anyone who knows fine dining would see they truly made no mistakes. The hotel grounds themselves are so well kept, clean and beautiful. Not to mention the employees are so kind and go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. They make it to where you don’t even want to leave the hotel and explore! Lol. I brought my in-laws to Guatemala and they came home so happy and they are already planning their next trip. Also, the rooms are amazing because they really keep the integrity of what the hotel once was, an old monastery, and at the same time, they have the upgrades to make it comfortable. We had three rooms and each one was unique and beautiful. Thank you Hotel Casa Santo Domingo for a truly unforgettable week!!

The location is beautiful. The history of Antigua is present throughout the grounds and in its art collection. Drinks at the bar and food served were all delicious. However, when checking in we suggest you ask what’s included with your room. Unfortunately we were not given details during our stay and it wasn’t until the 5th day that we found out we had breakfast included. We were also booked in a spa room but were not given details on what was included or access info either. We roamed the grounds and figured it out.. The museums are breathtaking and the staff very courteous and helpful.

I have had great experiences at Casa Santo Domingo in the past, the hotel is beautiful and we used to love it. Unfortunately the service is not good. My family needed a special room for limited mobility and it was indicated to us that they did have one (btw really late responses). once we did the reservation the person in charge told us that the room that they could give us was in the smoking area since those are the ONLY rooms for people with disabilities. What? Is that how they have manage “all special requests”?! We are traveling with a child and there is NO way that we will put her in a room in the smoking area. In the whole exchange of emails I wasn’t offered not even once a kind (and helpfulway to fix this. Sounded like the whole thing was my fault. My fault for having a disability and my fault for asking something different. I ended up canceling my reservation this time and disappointing my family since we were looking forward to staying there. Go to the museum, go to the restaurant, STAY SOMEWHERE ELSE! There are plenty beautiful hotels in Antigua with great service.

I booked directly on their website to avoid any issues. I chose the deluxe suite. All the pictures showed terrace or balcony. When I entered the room, there was neither! It was a dark and gloomy room and I felt enclosed. I went to the reception area and showed Oscar that this was false advertising and I wanted a room that had outdoor space. He told me I’d have to upgrade and that I would be charged the difference. Then he said I could downgrade as well, but that I would not receive a credit for the price difference. i travel to Antigua often and I will never stay here again.

Lovely hotel in Antigua, well located in an historic setting. Staff is really friendly and helpful. Rooms are clean and roomy, beds comfortable. Took 1 star off for insulation. We stayed in 3 different rooms, in 3 sections of the hotel. In 2 of them the noise the voices of the neighbors below or aside were to the level you could follow the conversation. Would still recommend 👌

This review is solely based on my experience at the Spa. The staff at check in were not welcoming at all and experienced the same level of mediocre service when leaving.1. Upon checking in for our couple massage we were 5 minutes early and asked if it was possible to get a coffee was told no because we wouldn’t have enough time as we were waiting an additional 10 minutes to start. They offer you rubber slipper to use at the property but they seemed pretty worn out we declined and used our own.2. The massage was good, my only complaint during the massage is they would stop for 2-3 minutes to get things and all you hear are the cabinets opening and closing like they’re looking for something but not sure where thing are located. (No complaints against our masseuses, just the process took away from being relaxed.)3. We stayed for lunch after and finally got that coffee… the waitress felt very cold toward us, just not that level of service you would expect from a “5 star” hotel. The food was good we ordered apps, main course and deserts. The sangria was weak though…4. When checking out we dealt with the same guy 👎🏽 I had previously paid online before our massage and they couldn’t seem to figure things out, the other lady that started to assist me asked me 3 times if I had paid already, once we closed out our lunch tab, I told them I want to leave a tip for my masseuse after I paid, as I was waiting for the other girl to get me an envelope. The guy asked what else I needed as if I was bothering him or something…5. Our masseuses were their saving grace, very friendly and welcoming. Actually explained to us the whole process, where things were located and what was included with our spa day.Overall not a very welcoming experience from a highly rated hotel. Now is the place worth a visit? For sure! The property is beautiful, all the other staff we dealt with on property outside of the spa were very friendly, if you’re visiting Antigua I would give them a shot, hopefully you have a better experience.

Came here for dinner with a friend who was staying here. Everything about it was phenomenal! The atmosphere in the hotel is lovely, and the service was very kind and helpful. Our waitress recommended the Wok dish to us, which is what I ended up ordering. It was delicious! A little pricey, but that is expected at a place like this. I also ordered the brownie with popcorn and ice cream for dessert, which was unique but also very tasty. All around, this hotel was a great experience. Highly recommend going for a meal here!
