30 James St, Liverpool L2 7PQ, United Kingdom, Liverpool
Upscale hotel restaurant with shipping artefacts & a rooftop bar serving refined British fare.
Fantastic views of Liverpool drinks expensive but worth it for the view
Food excellent.....room various things didnt work......no tv remote....rang staff ,little unpleasant. Kettle on the floor.remote still didnt work.Advantage near to museums etc.
Not very helpful staff told dont serve pints of beer which they did I found out later and didnt receive discount which I was told to show my room card for discount will not revisit this bar.
Nice view, will be back soon,
Fantastic cocktails. We really liked the daiquiri and martini. Bar man was lovely and very attentive.
Great view from the rooftop bar, girls behind the bar were so friendly especially Eve. Great cocktails. we will return
Lovely place to have evening cocktails. Great views of the docks at the top of an historic landmark. Highly recommended.
What a lovely view, excellent cocktails and the breakfast was great too
Friendly bartender. Tasty cocktails and great view.
The staff were friendly and helpful, if not massively knowledgeable about cocktails. (They had to check the recipe and point at bottles. The views from the balcony were amazing and the bar was cosy. We also used the restaurant for our breakfast (we stayed in the hotelnice selection of foods and quite tasty.
Absolutely disgusted with this place.. I booked an afternoon tea for today (09.04.22for my birthday i booked a couple of months before as I know its grand national weekend they took my deposit ( which still has not been refunded to my bank!!, I contacted them know about two weeks ago I had a person drop out to change the table to 6. The reply was you should not of been able to make that booking when did you book it & we are only taking bookings over 15, which left me with no where to go & too late to book anywhere else. I even read they had some mixed reviews about slow service etc but I like to give places the benefit of the doubt however I wish I had took the advice because if I hadnt contacted them they wouldnt of let me know till 7 days before that my booking was cancelled, this has ruined my plans. They said they werent doing very well Im not surprised, absolute joke of an establishment!! Very unprofessional, not happy
Took mum for afternoon Tea, it was a lovely afternoon, plenty of cakes and sandwiches to choose from, staff were really nice and made sure we were having a nice time, will definitely go back
Even though we made a reservation, when we arrived the person at reception insisted for at least 5 minutes that we could not have booked because they only take large bookings. When she decided to finally check the system she discovered that we actually did have a booking. We planned to visit here for cocktails to only discover you could not just have drinks in the restaurant. Considering this we were invited to sit outside on the terrace despite being 10 degrees and having no heating.Even if they did have heating I would not have stayed. The terrace area was shabby and totally uninviting! The metal furniture was dirty and completely rusted. Possibly the worst experience I have EVER had!!!
Popped in for a drink. Friendly staff, especially Nigel who gladly showed us a video of the room quality, even offered to show us a room if we wished to see them; unfortunately we didnt have time but will be returning. He was very passionate about what the hotel had to offer, which made a refreshing change.
The owner was really nice and the place is amazing. The view really worth it and the prices are very good
Great night with family. Great food and waiting on staff were brilliant 👏 would definitely recommend.
Sooooo disappointed with the menu. One sheet of poorly printed, crumpled paper. Definitely not the one I found on the website which included steaks, burgers and various fish dishes. Such a limited choice of about 6 mains. The waiter said that you get a different menu if you’re staying there. I said I didn’t see anywhere that explained that because if I’d have known I wouldn’t have booked. Even the drinks menu had only a choice of 3 or 4 white wines. No Prosecco! What’s that all about? Booked for my 60th so was such a let down as my friends and I had been so looking forward to it. Two stars are for the food and excellent service. Felt like 2nd class citizens. Would love an explanation as to why they do this. I’m considering contacting them direct. Would definitely not return or recommend.
Danny the bar tender was amazing, all the staff were nice though. Would definitely go back and definitely recommend the service we recieved, especially from Danny
Stunning food and amazing service. Worth every penny.
Pretty basic all round. Afternoon tea for three of us. Tea pots for both tea and coffee. One cake stand with scones on top tier, tasteless, middle tier had sandwiches for one of us and bottom tier cakes for us all. 2 of us got a separate side plate each with a few sandwiches. We each had a different number of sandwiches. Young staff, polite enough, but not much presence and bit muddled with having part cash part card payment. Were from Liverpool, but certainly wouldnt be taking a visitor/tourist here. Quite disappointing.
We went for the tea. Nice terrace and lovely little desserts. Definitely not what I was expecting in terms of quantity of food given the price (four little bits of sandwich each and a few desserts). Took ages to get our drinks and then once she delivered the food, our server was nowhere to be found for the rest of our visit. Absolutely bare minimum service. Also would have expected a nice loose-leaf tea or something (again, given the pricebut it looked like a standard Yorkshire tea bag in the pot. Would not recommend!
The atmosphere, staff and tea were fantastic. Staff couldnt do enough even brought extra sandwiches. The desserts are gorgeous. Definitely go again. Worth every penny.
Nice food with good options available. Lovely view from the restaurant and optional outdoor seating if the weather is good. Would recommend a visit, even if its for afternoon tea during the day.
Deeply disappointed. The food was horrible. The offered us instant coffee and the afternoon tea is definitely not worth the price.
Food and cocktails were nice, we sat inside rather than on the terrace as its only small and other guests were smoking.
Few drinks on the outside roof terrace great view across to the Royal Albert Dock
Had afternoon tea with a friend and throughly enjoyed it ! The staff were very attentive to our needs and offered us more sandwiches/ cakes/ drinks ! The view was stunning! Definitely would go back again !
Everything about this evening was perfect thanks to Alisha. The venue is astonishing, so many interesting glimpses of history. The music was live and just right. The food was everything. Pork belly and black pudding beignet? Yes!!! House champagne is good and a good price and we were welcome to bring our own birthday cake and everyone joined in with the singing. Highly recommended
Incredibly friendly staff. My partner took us here for my birthday and we stayed in the hotel overnight. Once done properly the food was nice and the presentation was top notch. However, we were waiting for over half an hour for a dessert. Once questioned, we found out that our order hadnt even gone through yet. Then, for breakfast, the fruit on the fruit board was very mouldy, old and dried out! Once I advised a waiter it was quickly changed. But I did expect better from a hotel of this calibre. Im not sure that this would be my go-to next time. Sorry.
Ultimately very disappointed. Had been told by many people and reviews the view was amazing but without being sat outside you can hardly see a thing. Waitress we had was lovely and did everything she could for us but food and drink service were awful. starters were with us before drinks, mains were almost immediately after starters and then dessert was delayed because they were having problems with the ice cream. We were then told we could not have an Irish coffee as the machine had broken down.10 year anniversary dinner that wed been excited about for months was a complete letdown.
What a fabulous place, the staff and food were excellent, definitely want to go back again.
Service is shocking. Waited 40 mins for a bottle of beer. Waited another half hour for a jug of water. Asked for a menu. It didnt arrive. Afternoon tea worst I ever had. Sandwiches stale. Cakes dry. Scones bought from tesco most probably. Great roof terrace but sack the staff. Ah well go the shankly better all round.
Food pretty poor in presentation and content-maybe because we went for late lunch and afternoon tea was being served. Staff mostly very affable -some needed to go back to school to learn how to present food and talk to peopl. Stunning surroundings-great view from terrace-would go again for drinks only
The staff were so friendly and accommodating, told them I was vegan and they offered to make me and my partner a meal that wasn’t even on the menu! The prices are wonderful as well, with the discount from staying at the hotel we only paid about £18 each for the main (which was absolutely delicious!!and a cocktail, can’t fault it!
I had a table booked for the Carpathia restaurant for my wife and two daughters at 12.30 on Sunday 14th July to celebrate my wifes birthday. We booked this table in advance of a trip to the World Cup Netball session at the Arena. We were really looking forward to our trip to the Carpathia as we had heard good reviews.Unfortunately I cant give a review on this restaurant as I had a message left on my telephone at 9.50am on the day of the booking. The message was left by the Business Development Manager, Oliver Downey to say he was cancelling my booking as they had a wedding in and we could either re-arrange for another time or find another restaurant. I picked this message up at 11am and after 45 minutes trying to call the restaurant was told that it was my fault as I booked the table on-line. The fact I had a reservation number didnt seem to make any difference.Suffice to say we couldnt get another restaurant at such short notice so it did ruin the plans for the day.I have never had this level of service from any restaurant I have ever visited and would advise that anyone booking for a special occasion be very careful. I would also like to add that I did check the booking with the receptionist that answered the telephone and she confirmed she had the booking. It appears the booking system is a shambles.
This place was included in my stay at the hotel, with a lovely 2 course meal. Which was absolutely amazing. The staff were so polite, helpful and talkative. The view from the restaurant down onto Liverpool is beautiful (especially at night). The quantity was just right and the food was cooked and served very well! Not the cheapest place but certainly worth it!
We arrived at 3pm on a sunny then cloudy day, Its like a secret in Liverpool so I really wanted to give it a go regardless of weather!! We had the place to ourselves for around 20 mins then naturally it soon filled up as the sun stayed out! All the staff were lovely we had table service by 4pm and free treats too! The building is beautiful, very historical! It is a hotel below the restaurant level and has Signature living in it so there were A LOT of hen parties all having a lovely time too with what looked like afternoon tea with prosecco! Well worth a visit and if you can get on the terrace certainly do, I believe you can reserve tables there too ;x
9 of us visited here. We ordered drinks within the first 10min. It took another 30min to get them. Some had drank thiers were others still waited.Nice views ..but would not rush back.
Had a lovely meal that was included in our stay at 30 James Street with a lovely waitress. Cant remember her name bit she looked like Rhianna! She was always smiling which was lovely to see. It was out first wedding anniversary and they gave is a lovely dessert platter to mark the occasion which was a lovely surprise and such a nice touch. The food was gorgeous and well presented. There is currently some renovations going on but we werent affected by it except we were going to go back for a drink during the day not it was unfortunately closed. We would love to go back when the buildng work had finished.
We had the 2 course menu. Not a lot of choice for this menu. Im not sure if we had chicken or hummingbird as the portion was tiny and came with almost nothing else on the plate! "Ah well" I thought, at least we have dessert. My Panna cotta was about the size of an ice cube on 2 slices of pineapple. So after "dinner" we left to go get something to eat. The saving grace was the restaurant itself is very nice, especially having the roof terraces and the staff were very friendly.Im guessing other diners had not ordered from the same menu as they seemed to have much larger meals. Overall very disappointed as its rare for me and my wife to be able to have a break, and this was a treat she had booked for us.
Had a lovely afternoon tea and the staff were wonderful. I was in my wheelchair and when I sat at the table I was asked if I needed a cushion for my back. The only problem is there are no ramps or wheelchair access so we had to go through the spa area and through the hotel to get a lift which we could only just get into. Even so we had a lovely time.
Very disappointing roof top bar. Very small area with sticky tables that were not cleaned in the 40 minutes we were there. Staff really hard to find and views depressing. Toilets not clean, hand dryer not working in one. There was an attendant around but she seemed more interested in chatting to a colleague. Did not enjoy my visit, will not b returning and would not recommend it.
We arrived around 8pm to have drinks prior to heading off into town and was greeted like royalty, that is until we said we were just there for drinks. Everything pretty much went down hill from there. The lady showed us to our table, outside on the cold balcony whilst many tables inside sat unused (and continued to be unused for our durationnot only that, she showed us outside and then shut the door to the balcony. At the time of been seated she told us to order drinks at the bar, this I tried to do and was met by a very rude and stressed bar man who told us we needed to go back to our seats and someone would take our order. This they did a couple of minutes later but then it took around 30 mins for those drinks to arrive (2x glasses of wine and 2x very warm bottles of beerThe ridiculous things is that I could see our drinks sat on the bar with nobody bringing them over so when I asked if I could just go over and bring them to our table myself I was told no they must be brought over by a member of staff. It feels like they are only interested in people who are there to eat, which is fine if they just want to be a restaurant but that should be made clear that casual drinkers are not welcome. All in all very disappointed and wont be going back on out next visit to Liverpool
Great roof top views. This isn’t Florence so don’t expect too much from the views but good location between Albert Dock and the City Centre. On top of the 30 St James Hotel which is the old headquarters of the White Star Line company and so the entire hotel including this bar is Titanic themed.
Beautiful surroundings and wonderful views. All the staff were lovely. The food was superb as were the cocktails. Will definitely be coming back. Might even stay over in 30 James street hotel as really good room price during week. Highly recommend this restaurant.
Had a lovely meal in the restaurant. Very attentive staff reasonable selection on the menu. Cocktail selection was good with very topical names. There is an outside area where you can sit to drink your cocktails but it was too cold to take advantage of this attraction. A downside at the moment is the scaffolding on the building next door this obscures the views of the docks.
Nice hotel in an excellent location... Liverpool One shopping centre and the Albert Docks less than 5 minutes walk.Check in was at 3pm but the room wasnt ready so we were given complimentary drinks (we chose cocktails which were lovely). The room itself was very spacious with two double beds, wardrobe, chest of drawers and a decent LG smart tv. The room was a bit cold because the heating didnt seem to work but once in bed it was fine. The best part of the room had to be the bathroom... dominated by a huge jacuzzi bath! Older guests may struggle to get in and out of it though. The shower is situated above the bath so I would advise that this is given consideration when booking. The evening meal was nice as was the breakfast... the usual available such as full english, cereals, toast etc...
If looking for a bar with a view, this is a place to be on. Be prepared to spend! If u are on wheels be warned , u might struggle on manoeuvrability in the lift as it is tight for even 4 people including a luggage. Staff wise they are very accommodating.
nice service. will be back next time were in Liverpool
Do not go there for afternoon tea. Food bits stuck on the tables(seems like its been there for weeks or months that it all dried up). All chairs has stains that seem can be easily wipe off with windex, somehow no one ever tried? super disgusting! Dishes and tea cups are dirty. Milk on the table has dust. Food taste worse than something that you can buy from a convenient store. Everyone in our group of five took a bite from most of the food hoping it would taste good but unfortunately theres nothing we can handle more than one little bite. I believe its not that were unlucky, its just the way their tea place is... definitely DO NOT recommend this place and would never go again. Want to rate it with NEGATIVE 5stars!
