Intimate music joint & cocktail bar showcasing regional jazz & American blues artists.
Fantastic music, drinks, service. Great way to close out an evening.
Great music great live music, great bartender is great door man great managers. And no one is paying me yet to write this.
I live Jazz and the band was amazing.
Live jazz style music
Staff was superb, atmosphere was cozy and the signature cocktails were pretty tasty! Really fun place for date night, cant wait to go back
Wait staff and host were really nice the music was good a little cramped but overall it was a nice evening
Tonight was so much fun with the live jazz band. Johnny and Mike were both really helpful with cocktails, Milwaukee info for us visitors and good stories. Definitely recommend going Carolines for a night out.
Enjoyed the house band, John Spencer Band. Jazz, blues!
I absolutely adore the live music and the drinks are great, each one packs a punch!
Very cozy atmosphere. Quaint little bar that features live jazz. Music was good and the bartender Tony was exceptional in his service all around!
Its a very cozy atmosphere with incredibly pleasant staff and excellent music. If you enjoy some live jazz, youre doing yourself a disservice if you miss this spot.
One of the best in Milwaukee. Friend worked here for a couple years. Love the atmosphere. Great music and drinks. Very cozy
Carolines couldnt have been better. We expected a cover charge, which was $12/person but well worth it. We got exactly what we wanted: a cozy night of jazz with some great drinks. The band was great and I dont think there is a bad seat in the house. Well definitely be going back!
Donna Woodall is not to be missed. u must treat yourself and go IF u love real jazz.
Phenomenal drinks and music. One of the best jazz clubs in the country. Wow 👌
Like live jazz? Youll love this little hole in the wall! Small and cozy, great for an intimate night out or just to enjoy the music and atmosphere that I havent found anywhere else. Walk in the door and step back in time to the 1930s with period lighting and even older architecture. Seems even some of the people havent left or changed their style since 1970. Small tables facing the band, friendly service, and reasonable prices round out the place.
Great place! Lots of fun, but it fills fast, so get there early for events!
Awesome Evening Experiencing Milwaukees Jazz Scene, and Caroline greeted is at the door! The Band with Leader/ Drummer Paul Spencer was off the hook, they take you on a Jazz Journey!
Took my husband, father and mother in law here. We had a good time. Small establishment. Women bathroom was very small with 1 unit. The band was talented. Our waiter was nice as well. Tasty cocktails
Great jazz joint that embodies the spirit of freedom. Incredible close quarters seating: I was literally a foot from the pianist and was able to watch his handiwork all night. Good prices for clean, strong drinks.
Fun little live music bar. The Doorman is the best! He’s got such a great personality and his outfits are on point. The band is a lot of fun and love what they do.No food served here so snack before you relax. Fun vibes and intimate spacing. Drink selection was a little limited, but not that it affected our night. There are tables and chairs in front of the band and a bar and little tables on the side. Caroline herself can be seen walking around the joint conversing with customers.
A Milwaukee gem! The house band plays a long first set and a shorter seconds set after about a 30 minute break. The last time we were there they rocked the house for over 3 hours! Each band member is spectacular. The drummer, bass, piano, sax and trombone — all are excellent at their craft. They played a nice mix of tunes and styles. Don’t plan on talking because the music fills the space and your whole being.Drinks are a little uneven in strength and quality. Some are strong and some are not. The wait staff is very good though. The doorman is super!! I’d got back just to see what he’s wearing.Cover change is $12. Cash. Check website for doors open times and days (mainly Fridays and Saturdays from 9:30 pm ish to 1:30 am ish). There is no food served here so eat before or after. There are tables near the band. Most seat 4 people. There is room at the bar as well as standing room and tall tables around the perimeter. Even the bathrooms are cool.Don’t hesitate. Don’t miss out. Go.
This is a classy spot to have a drink and take on some live jazz! The drinks were good and the music was amazing!
Had a great time. The Jazz Musicians played great. The Service and drinks were excellent. Highly Recommend.🍾🥂💖
My Honey and I had a great time here loved the live talent and mixed cultural atmosphere we felt welcomed though I must say I gave a tip on my way out the waiter said really Sis you are wrong for that as if he was not happy with the tip given which I felt that was rude and he whispered in my ear why not my Hubby 🙄
Exactly what youre looking for in an authentic Jazz club. The Paul Spencer Band is the house band and they deliver solo after solo and their talent packs the house!
Cute little jazz club with great atmosphere. The night we were here it was more of a rock band and they were a bit louder than what I think the acoustics can handle. Ill check it out again for sure though.
Awesome place to enjoy live Jazz music in Milwaukee! They have great cocktails and it is a very classic, but trendy atmosphere. The owner is very friendly to patrons. Come help this great establishment get through these difficult covid times.
Very unique. Feels like youre in the 1950s. Friendly staff, amazing music. Cover charge was $12 each, but the cocktails are really good and reasonably priced (~$6and they have an extensive menu of options for drinks. I dont believe they have any food, but youre definitely paying for the atmosphere, the music, and the drinks, and its well worth it.
Way too loud. Good music shouldn’t hurt my ears. I had to leave. The staff was amazing. A gentleman helped me find a place to sit. It would have been nice if they refunded my entry fee as I left quite quickly. A donation to the arts.
Music was fabulous, waiters were very attentive, venue was beautiful! We will be going back regularly. Had a really good time
Great atmosphere.. lead band Paul spencer and crew were awesome . Had a great night for the first time in a while. Will come again soon. And I highly recommend it to anyone looking to listen to some jazz music like ..
Loved the atmosphere! Very cool place.
Place is nice once it the live Jazz gets going. On the weekend the band comes on at 930, Just FYI. Service is good and they are attentive, no snacks or food. Eat before you go. This place is great for drinks or after you eaten dinner and you want to hear so smootb grooves.Rashelle Rolle
Went to Carolines on a Saturday night. $5 cover. It was packed, the drinks were tasty and the music was solid. Would recommend.
I now consider this place a hidden gem. We were a large group on a Saturday night, attempting to enjoy live jazz, which turned out to be more difficult than we had foreseen. Until we discovered Carolines, with its $5 cover charge and accommodating owner. Her husbands band was playing and they were incredibly entertaining. Plus wait staff was attentive and efficient. Way to save the night! #NotAllHeroesWearCapes
Great band! (Paul Spencer Band). Phil the bar manager was good enough to reserve seating for eight. The only items to keep them from earning a five were occasionally slow service and the fact that seating was drawn out and the tables could not communicate.
Went to Carolines on a Saturday. Although the place opens at 7pm the live Jazz didnt start until 930pm. Its recommended to show by at least 9pm to get a spot and grab a drink or two from the bar. Bartenders put together some phenomenal drinks and provide recommendations. The Jazz music is excellent and goes on until about midnight maybe more. The atmosphere in the building truly helps set the mood.
The drinks are strong, the music is fantastic, and the employees are very welcoming!
superb music in a club made for Jazz! The bartenders are attentive, friendly and thorough. The Paul Spencer was on fire tonight. Excellent place for mellowing out or dancing.
Nice joint. Music starts at 9:30 on Sat.Saw the Paul Spencer band. Pretty good.$5 cover and 4 drinks @ $28. Pretty reasonable for 2 hours of good jazz.
$5. cover charge great music. Wasnt crowded but thats when all the Harleys were in town. Been there done that. I liked this intimate setting. Great Sax. player headed for Calif. So that was an unexpected Treat. Plan on going back. People dont realize the musical Talent in Milwaukee.
Very cool old place. The band was awesome, and the vibe feels like its been that way for 50 years, in the best kind of way. My only gripe, our group got some *very* light pours on several drinks. And who puts tonic in an old fashioned? Better cocktails and its 5 stars for certain.
Known as the number one jazz club in the state of Wisconsin. This is another venue on the top 10 places to visit when experiencing the town of Milwaukee. Its got a very historic feel and their cocktails are amazing!! Very cozy and perfect place to go after dinner for a good time enjoying music!!!
Very intimate and cozy...with Caroline usually making her way around making sure everyone is happy! =Be ready for a very "in your face" musical experience when seeing a live performance there...Wednesday nights are fun with the open jam session!!
I had a wonderful time there tonight. The lead singer of the band is an awesome, down to earth woman. The owner was charming, the bartender was polite and HANDSOME. My sister works here and it is quite a great atmosphere.
This is best kept secret..Except to the entertainers! Has a historic Milwaukee ambiance. Drinks are city prices. Awesome place to bring visitors, business associates and any Jazz/Blues fan!
I absolutely love this place! The music is always wonderful and the drinks are always good. They have a nice wine list and also make classic cocktails. I really love the blues jam sessions and jazz nights featuring Paul. If you want an authentic jazz experience this is the place. Great for first dates, anniversaries and night out on the town with friends. There is no said dress code but you may feel a little undressed if you are not dressed up a little bit. Patrons normally wear dresses or suit jackets. Nice sweaters and corduroys.
The sounds of warm jazz flow out onto little traveled streets of Milwaukee thanks to Carolines. The overall experience any performance night is border line religious. I dont often review places but this is easily my favorite local gem. Even if jazz isnt your thing, do yourself a favor and come get lost in the silky rhythm.
Took a date there tonight sat 9/5/15. Jazz is not really my thing but hers. I still had a great time. The atmosphere was welcoming and relaxed. The band sounded great to me and the drummer kept me entertained with his jokes and dialogue between sets. Overall, I loved it. Just so you know there was a $5 cover and the mix drinks arent cheap.
