83 Rivington St, Hackney, London EC2A 3AY, Mwandiga
Buzzing, atmospheric venue for bands and DJs in disused railway yard with global menu and a garden.
Cool vibes, good music/DJs. Dance floor was popping
I really dislike Cargo they charge £20 per entry to what is a basic club, this club would cost £5 in any other city in the country. I prefer going to Queen of Hoxton where entry is around £5.
Booked a table for £100 for birthday, bouncer was really rude when we arrived. After showing reservation said ‘that’s not a table booking. You think your gonna get a table for £100 love’ (yes, are you unaware of your table prices?then said to que up. The lady dealing with bookings apologised for the bouncer’s arrogant attitude and got us in quickly and let us choose a table we wanted with was nice. We then got on our table and we had pre ordered a drinks package for around £80 I think with wine beer, a variety of drinks. Was then told we only had option of 2 bottles of Prosecco or wine…? Night was average, music was pop/cheesy. Definitely not worth the money. I think it the bouncer wasn’t so rude on arrival it wouldn’t of dampened our mood for the rest of the night.
Rude staff I came from France and they wouldn’t let us in saying that only mixe people very poor don’t go there if you have any chance
Terrible experience. It is a given than nightclubs in London will be expensive, but the number of different ways they try to LEECH MONEY off you in this place is unbelievable. In the cloackrooms each hanger is 3£ and you need a different one for each single item of clothing. At the bar, not only are the prices steep (as expected of a nightclubclub), but they actually INCREASE as the night progresses and after 10PM youre not allowed to make card payments for any less than 20£. You either have to buy drinks for yourself and your mates all at once whenever you go to the bar, or youre forced to pay those 20£ for ONE drink or carry around multiple cups all the time.To top it all off, there is is a whole separate dancefloor where you are not allowed to enter while wearing a HANDBAG (explain to me where I was supposed to be keeping my valuables)! I truly did not understand the logic behind this one as the room was EMPTY - perhaps another move to make you PAY EVEN MORE at the cloakroom?I would excuse all of this if the music or the vibe were worth it, but they just werent. Save your time and money and do not go here.
Rude staff, trod in a puddle of vomit by the bar which still wasn’t cleared up 10 minutes later, £15 for a large(?rum and coke…. coke was completely flat and could barely taste any rum, a single bloke manhandled within seconds after the tiniest of scuffles but a large, rowdy group of lads knocking people’s drinks out of their hands (though no doubt spending money), left to run riot. I’m more than happy to pay London prices for a good night out but this was really low bar.
£25 entry fee in Shoreditch is laughable, might as well go Mayfair for that price. The whole experience inside was underwhelming for that price. Dont get fooled
I regularly attend music events as part of my job, and this was hands down the worst venue Ive been to. The security staff were incredibly rude and stand-offish towards me (I consider myself to be friendly and polite - so Im not sure why they felt they needed to challenge me - perhaps because Im queer presenting). When I went to the bar, lime and soda was (unbelievably£3.50 (!!!), and when I saw the payment didnt go through, the bar staff asked me to check my own bank account to see if the transaction had been made. When I very honestly told them it hadnt, without making any eye contact they pushed the card machine towards me and walked away (it wasnt busy at the bar, so there was no need to be non-talkative with me - having previously worked in hospitality I would have been disciplined for how cold this member of staff was with me). After seeing the act Id come to see I left pretty quickly as the atmosphere was totally dead and unwelcoming. Regardless of who is playing there next time, I wont be attending.
Edited because just passed by on a Sunday afternoon and we were asked if we wanted to come in for happy hour. We’d been walking by and came back so all the team there would have seen us but as soon as we stepped in the metal gate a bouncer who had been just standing around was exceptionally rude for no reason, no one even in the queue - then he pulled us out the line to ask if it was ok we were allowed in? Called to his boss to have him eyeball us - Didn’t say why. about a minute later the nicer bouncer on the door said he could could put my food on the side but the one with the bad attitude said without looking at us that ‘if she wants in she can bin it, either she’s binning it or we’re binning it but it’s getting binned if she wants in’. Left and now can’t say I’m keen to go back despite my original review below. Like it’s a casual cocktail at your venue which had no one in except an event on a Sunday? It shouldn’t be that deep!Original review at 4* before staff change; Was here last night! Music was litty, drinks were expensive but strong 💪 a lot of good looking people in this club too, it attracts a good crowd. I lost half of my coat ticket and they still helped me get it from the back. They take card for cloak room which is blessed, I don’t carry cash! Downsides: toilet up the stairs and the line can wind right down it (but the lady in there was quick to be checking on everything), expensive entry (£20 even though it’s £10 online and said I’d have to leave and queue again if I bought the online ticket 😅).I’d go again for sure but it’s a payday only vibe for me personally.
Avoid this place if you value a good night out, I would have rated it 0 if possible. The prices of drinks start at £7 for a single shot and the staff are nothing but rude and miserable, security picks fights with anyone coming through the door and the whole place smells like B.O and damp. Defo not a good place to spend your money guys, treat yourselves better and go to literally anywhere else.
the drinks are completely overpriced, the staff is incredibly rude and the place is very dirty (the toilets were particularly disgusting, I doubt that theyre cleaned on a regular basis). on top of that they have a real DEAD TIGER for decoration in the bar, which is so unethical and should be illegal. worst place Ive been to in London so far
Generally rude and unhelpful staff. Asked to use the toilet and was informed they were for guests even though I have been a patron here many times before. Not sure why establishments like these continue to operate when they give nothing back to their local community.
Avoid at all Costssss!!!Absolutely scam and very rude manager and staff members! Before entering it said free bar which was lit up and asked members of staff at the bar outside if we had to pay for entry to the bar which they said NO. When we arrived we were forced to pay £20 for entry which we didn’t want to use the night club as we believed it was only a free bar and then we pay for the drinks. Prices are an absolute joke anyways. We were leaving very quickly and only wanted 1 drink and being forced to pay £20 is not on and like I said very rude staff. I wanted our money back for the entry fee but got denied by the manager who wasn’t listening anyways. Any where else would be better anyways!!!
I had the most awful experience at Cargo. AVOID at all costs.Me and a group of 6 others booked a table here 2 weeks before our booking in which we placed £140 deposit for the table. We specifically booked outside for 7x people. However, when we arrived, we were divided into two groups and seated inside. After speaking to numerous members of staff, all of which only one seemed to have any idea what was going on, we were eventually moved outside together.Once seated our drinks order was taken. 1 hour later, our drinks had not been served. (we chased the order up multiple timesWe were then told by a member of staff that we couldnt sit together despite them approving of our booking 2 weeks prior. Nearly an hour and a half later, with no drinks and being told to split up, we decided to leave. We were told no refund could be given, (£140and that we should contact them via email. A member of the party has since emailed three times with NO RESPONSE.The venue doesnt even deserve 1 star.
Probably the most overrated club in Shoreditch, yet there is always a large queue for some reason. On my most recent visit, I spoke to the security beforehand, waited in the queue for roughly 30 mins with a group of females that I had just met whilst being social (they can deny entry for a group of guysthe girls then went in ahead of me and when it was my turn to enter, I was denied entry on the basis of me being on my own. Even with ID, a face mask, not drunk or disorderly and appropriately dressed. This no single entry has to stop. When I have previously been inside the place on my own I have found it to be overly priced and expensive for no reason. Not a good experience, if you are looking for a good night out.
Absolutely disgusting. Drinks were horrible, the food looks like it was coming from the cheap chicken shop next door.If I could give 0 stars I would. The place was completely dirty and the table for some reason was sticky...We were overcharged with things we didnt order and management refuse to refund.Definitely a place to never come back.
Just visited cargo, when we booked they told us we would be outside so they decided after about 10 mins of us sitting in a full blown club for a pint or two that we could go outside which we initially booked. After this we were told that they have a weekend menu and a wek day menu so we were charged in excess of the prices we expected. Also the food menu was shrunk down to a page which is awful the options were one of three options and you couldnt order chips on their own. We asked for beer and apparently it was not working so we had to order £15 doubles. Overall sat here for 10 kins and was the most frustrating experience ever.
If I could give -5 I would. Arrived there , waiter took 30 minutes to serve us. The staff got all our orders wrong and then tried to charge us an extra £35 for his mistake. The excuse we were given was " sorry hes new and didnt know ". The drinks are over priced £15 for a double , service was disappointing, The whole experience was terrible left after one drink. Never come back again.
As another post has mentioned, if I could give zero star ratings, I would. After a really good day celebrating our good friends 40th we bypassed the many places we could have gone to, and went to Cargo yesterday. Big mistake..After four of our group being overcharged the entrance fee, staff and management refused to refund. When asked to make this up in the form of drinks it was like haggling as if they were doing us a favour. In addition they overcharged one of us for a round of drinks. And as if that wasn’t enough: another of our friends ordered food and drink and paid. Only to be told afterwards staff had incorrectly priced the order, they proceeded to point out to her that she owed money.Want a good night out? Don’t go to Cargo. Want to get ripped off? Then go ahead.
The worst bday gathering so far - doesnt even deserve one star! We spent £240 on the booking for 12 people - £20 per head which was meant to go on the tab. The tab finished after one hour which makes me believe they ripped us off. When asked for a receipt I was told they cant give me one. All in all we spent little over £500 on the night, the service was horrible, rude, lazy and unsafe covid wise. The staff as holding the drinks by the edges with bare fingers and was almost offended whenever we tried to order drinks. Drinks arrived roughly after 30min each time we ordered and the staff was so rude - makes me wonder why do they work there if theyre so miserable and unhelpful.Save yourself a massive disappointment and go literally anywhere else.
Went for drinks on a saturday night when only drinking outside is allowed. Had to queue up for a while even though we had a booking which was ridiculous. Woman on the door was very slow at letting people in. Drinks were insanely overpriced, charging club price drinks even though it was essentially an outdoor bar and not a nice one at that. There was also minimal selection and food was terrible. What made it worse was we had to pay A 120 quid deposit so couldnt even leave until we spent that amount. One of our friends was slightly late and they tried to charge him 20 quid just to get in even though we had already secured the table inside. I would not recommend this place, absolutely terrible.
without doubt the worst bar ive ever been to, bouncer is an extremely rude person with some sort of power complex. the drinks were pretty terrible, the service even worse. we had a table booked and it took us so long to even get to the table and then get our first drink. 7 quid for a can of beer, not even draught? Actually a joke of a bar, do not go to cargo
Extremely overpriced, with very poor service! Had a booking for 4:30pm - 3am, left at 7pm as the service was so poor, waiting half an hour to get served, additional 20 minutes for some of our drinks to arrive. Placed numerous orders for drinks they kept forgetting to bring us.Funnily enough, the bill turned up quickly though.
Just popped in for a casual drink. The Daiquiri and Caipirinha were not nice at all!4/5 of our group had happy hour cocktails and we all left at least 1 drink. The staff were lovely having said that and regularly came to check on us. I wont be rushing back though, if at all.
If I could give this place a zero star I would. DO NOT GO HERE. GO DIRTY MARTINI INSTEAD.We went here as a few of our friends were already inside. We queued up for about an hour (I assume covid related and not the issue had it been worth it inside). The doorman informed us it was £20pp entry and upon arrival inside we were asked to pay £25, which a waitress later confirmed was wrong as it has always been £20.They told us they had a DJ and an amazing vibe inside. Upon arrival we found out there was no DJ, and they were playing some horrendous playlist from speakers barely hearable. The drinks were extremely overpriced. At £14 for a G&T in a plastic cup. A delicious passion fruit martini served in a martini glass is £10 at Dirty martini. The place looked super dirty and had no ambience or vibe. Everyone we spoke to agreed. We left after 20 mins and went to Dirty Martinis with no entry fee, an amazing DJ, cheaper drinks, way better ambience as well as service. Overal a million times better than Cargo. We feel absolutely robbed of our money and I would recommend anyone reading this review to stay away from this disgusting, lying, money stealing place at all costs.
This place is located in some alleyway where all kinds of creatures lurk, just a week before someone got treated like a kebab on a busy night..so coming I was a bit on edge, the only mildly positive is prob the under dressed thots. toilets looking like something out of a horror movie.the whole place look like the inside of a garbage truck. I advise they redo the venue put some colour and make it trendy, clean get some quality furniture, employ sexy young healthy bar maids and it will bang.
I do not usually leave reviews but this place is awful and you should avoid it at all costs. 30 quid entry fee on a Saturday which is overpriced even for London and the prices they were charging for drinks was criminal considering most of it was ice in a little plastic cup like the ones you get at the water coolers. No system at the door meant they were allowing everyone to flood in at once causing the main area to be overcrowded. That’s if you even make it to there considering there is a yob standing in the door way telling people they can’t come in with jackets. Once you do make it into the main area you’ll be left wondering how you paid so much money for such a mediocre venue. Only saving grace was music and even that wasn’t the best. First and last time here.
This is, hands down, the worst nightclub in London. I feel bad for people who visit London and think this would be a good place to go. The drinks are so small and icy you will be sober the whole time, you will leave broke because everything is outrageously overpriced, the staff are extremely rude, the music is generic and awful. You wouldnt be able to enjoy the music anyway, because the venue is illegally packed out with aggressive and self-obsessed barbie insta people, and there is no room to dance. This venue is a money grabbing disaster under the hands of greedy and dishonest management, who clearly have no regard for their customers. It has completely changed from what it used to be years ago. Avoid.
Nice music, ok atmosphere few rooms to go in and out of but hey who the hell carries cash on them going to a night club. You have to pay in cash for drinks or minimum £20 on card. Maybe i want to buy 1 drink at a time. Would not go back!!!
I don’t normally write negative reviews but this place was awful, probably one of the worst I’ve ever been! The drinks are over priced for this kind of place, £12,50 for a cocktail & £6,50 for a beer! Cloak room is £3 per item & entrance is £10! Min payment on a card is £20!!! What really bothered me was the amount of single use plastic cups they use on a daily basis!! Like thousands per day!! Plastic is a huge problem in the world so I don’t understand why can they not use reusable cups?!?! Save money & the environment!!I love dancing but I really struggled in this place because the DJ’s played all the same type of RnB that was just too slow, luckily there were a few good songs but overall not a huge variety! Will never go back there, it’s a proper tourist trap!!
Queued to get in, got to the door, tried to pay by amex and was then told they dont take it.No reception to make a transfer to my Monzo so I found a nook in the doorway to try and transfer money where I had some reception.2 of the bouncers said that I couldnt be there but after I said I just needed a minute to make a transfer they shrugged and seemed fine. Then the big one, I think his name was Chico or something,j grabbed me and threw me out. I get it, bouncers have to deal with drunk people being difficult all the time, but come on man, show some comon sense and analyze the situation as opposed to being a brainless slab.Anyway, my mates were inside already, there for a birthday and I didnt want to let the squad down, so I made the transfer, queued again and got in.Went to the cloak room, massive queue, only one person manning it and every time someone paid by card she had to dance around to get reception, not exactly efficient.Bag and a blaser were £3 each, which is typical but after paying double your average entry fee you would expect some kind of concession on that.Moved on to the bar, nice big sign saying that after 10pm cards were only accepted for payments over £20, which not only is against the T&Csof card service providers is absolutely ridiculous."Luckily"though a double rum and coke, and I say this with as much spite a possible is 13.5!So you only needed to get two to pay by card. Ive seen comments about the drinks being strong, they arent. They are mainly ice, followed by a double where a good part of the measure ended up on the table because their bar staff dont really understand how fluids work and only taste strong because theres hardly any space left for a any mixer after that.Music, and admittedly I tend to be a bit difficult with music, but a lot of it either wasnt particularly note worthy or just kinda bad. Couple of classics slipped in for a few verses here and there kept the floor going but except for that it was rather dull. And finally the guests; not the most interesting of people. Some tourists that were trying to experience "London life", feel sorry for them. A lot of "insta girls" that were there to be seen, had no objection to pushing in and through because they think they are special and then a lot of wide boys that think that because they can drop that kind money they have made it some how, and as much as I think £20 for entry and £13.5 a drink is expensive for what you got, its not exactly brag worthy.... Couple of nice people though, but they seemed just as bewildered as me at the other guests.Exit was prompt and without warning leading to a bit of a run on the cloakroom, which again was understaffed. At least it was faster this time as the poor woman behind the desk didnt have to dance around for card reception.Once you exited we were beset by a load of drug pushers, that were polite enough to the men, but very clingy to the ladies. If I hadnt kept an eye on my female friends and warned a few of them off, these dead beats looked up to following a couple of my friends all the way home. All in all, I dont recommend this place at all. Never been a massive fan of clubbing in general, but in that area theres a lot of other, better, more cost-effective and more fun clubs to choose from.
Wouldn’t bother going here, can get better value elsewhereMusic is good and the atmosphere is decent but that’s about it£20 entry is what you kind of expect for London - it’s annoying but expected. Drinks are a lot more expensive than clubs around and the queues to get to the bar take a while. They pack the club out, so expect to be jammed like sardines midway through the night. It’s okay but wouldn’t be my first choice for a night out
Ive been to cargo at least 10 times over the last few years and its safe to say the quality has dipped. The only positive to speak of is the music.Entry of 20 quid is extortionate, theyre quite strict on not letting you in with pre booked tickets if you arrive after 11. Drinks for 13.50 in tiny plastic cups is an absolute farce, cant be more than 100ml - you cant even get one drink alone, the minimum card take is 20.The dance floor is pretty grimy and its now overly packed, not in a good way, people there always seem up for a push and fight. There are plenty of other places in Shoreditch with a better vibe.
Me and my sister attended this event last night.I feel like Cargo spend too much time spying on the party goers rather than creating a good atmosphere. We were standing by the dance floor and all of a sudden i see this security guy standing there with a torch.Ive never been to a club and experience security spying on the party goers like this. Its very uncomfortable. You guys need to chill out this is not a prestige 5 star club in London.
If you really want to have a good time AVOID this club at all cost. It will ruin your night. I have been there twice. It was awful service the first time, people are super rude there. Last night went there again thought we will give it another shot, we thought maybe the first time when we were there it was just a bad night and our bad luck. But the second time was still the same. Specially both times we have witnessed bouncer abusing their powers. Of course its a bar, you will expect to see drunk people and deal with them. But you dont have any right to abuse them if they never provoke you or just answering your question. We paid £20 entry and went out to drop off a friend to his uber, but when we went back they wouldnt let us in, our SUPER EXPENSIVE drinks were still inside, when we asked the bouncer whats the reason that they wont let us in. He just simply avoided us rudely and didnt even look at us like we were some revolting creatures. Bouncers are supposed to protect people from violence, but instead of that they themselves become violent and provoke others with their actions. I or my friends are never going back there, and people deserves to know the truth about how they rob people of their money and treat them badly.
This place just out to take your money. £15 on the door though we arrived at 21:30.£20 minimum on card? Just to get you to by more drinks, worked opposite for us group of girls switched to water.Single spirit and mixer £14? Honestly this place is like day light robbery. I opted for the wine which on the menu was £6.50, to only be charged £7.50 at the till and then told thats an old menu. Sorry thats false advertisement, spoke with a manager who changed it. Maybe its me being to money conscious but really spoiled the evening.Never again.
The music was good and the space ok, but super expensive drinks £26 for four shots , £12 a double drink, £10 entrance fee if early you get the point. Doesn’t reflect by any means what you get. Bigger and better clubs are less pricey
One hot summers evening, our group decided to check out Cargo as they have an outdoor area in which to enjoy the weather. However, we had a frustrating experience with a lot of friction. The entry system is odd: even though there is a bouncer standing at the perfectly accessible entrance to the outdoor area, youre expected to go to the indoor entrance to show ID (this was at 6pm, had none, let me in anyway), and then walk through the dark empty part of the venue to get outdoors - a strange exercise in compliance when the outdoor part of the venue was barely at one-third occupancy.Having found my group, a friend and I couldnt wait to grab a couple of beers. Unfortunately, the bar staff looked rather easily agitated when we asked which beers were on offer (no eye contact, no smiling, quite the opposite of good service). We were offered a choice of two brands of beer in cans at an expensive price and at room temperature. Because wed just arrived, we didnt want to be left out of the group so we reluctantly bought ourselves the drinks. As expected, it was horrible. After about ten minutes of all of us agreeing the experience wasnt great, we migrated to The Strongroom just around the corner which was absolutely buzzing but provided a much smoother experience (with cold beers no less).Avoid.
Lot of negative reviews here but we had a good time. We just happened to be walking by on a Tuesday and heard the party inside. It’s small but there was a fun crowd dancing inside to a great dj. We didn’t meet the minimum but the staff was kind enough to let us use our cards anyways because we didn’t have cash. The bartenders were really friendly.
Great music in lively designed club, but completely ripe off from bar team. On Thursday night we have been passing through when young lady offer us free shots and 2 cocktails for £10. We gave a try and went inside. Free shots was kind of mixed vodka with cranberry juice in the bottle of some gin which was listed on the menu and not even in the bar display. When we asked for 2 cocktails she offered us 4 small beers or 2 simply mixers so we decided go for 4 canned beers, when u wanted to pay she said a minimum payment is £20. I said its only 2 of us and we cant spend that money on first round otherwise drinks get warm or lost. She took our drinks back without any interest. When we spoke with girl outside she told us bar has been informed about limit for card payments during a week. When we come back situation was exactly same, but after 10 minutes of discussing and double checking between each members in bar I paid £10, second drinks of same beer was £6.50 each. Personally I havent seen such a amateurism in such a popular place for long time a gonna uave large break from thus place...
BEST NIGHT EVER! I was scared of going after reading so many negative reviews, but I am so happy I went anyway. I booked a table for my birthday, when I got there the staff were all super friendly they showed me to my table with no problems. Just make sure to get there before 10pm if youve bought a ticket online as they wont be valid after that. The music was great, the staff were friendly and helpful.. definitely 10/10 night
It was so full! You couldnt even move from the sport youre in. Paid 20 entrance, couldnt get to the bar, was so packed you couldnt dance at all and they were still letting people in!! Had to leave after 40 minutes. They dont care at all about the well being of customers its all about the money for them.Worst part? The cloak room is outside in the smoking area! You have to wait up to 30min to pick up your jacket, freeze and get smoke in your face the whole time.I basically paid 20 pounds to get a cold yesterday, and now jacket stink of cigarettes - waste of time and money.
Would rate lower if i could. Staff are absolutely appalling, no concern for anyones well being or safety. Seemed to be no capacity limit on the venue, they were still letting people in at 2am despite the club being packed. Trying to get to the toilets was a joke - the queue went from upstairs all the way back to the dance floor. Drinks are ridiculously priced - £40.50 for 3 drinks!? Nothing fancy, just 3 doubles! Bouncers took no interest in the fact that men were hounding over women despite them looking genuinely scared! One bouncer was stood next to us whilst a man decided to get into my face because he got pushed by someone! Absolute dismal place, dont waste your money.AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE, UNLESS YOU LIKE BEING PACKED INTO A CLUB LIKE SARDINES!! WORST CLUBBING EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE!
Good music and good vibes, nice to find somewhere in Shoreditch that isnt filled with white hipsters. The interior design is pretty nice as well. Just got a bit too packed towards the middle of the night.
Sweat drenched, my pores scream in the midst of that squelching cauldron. Poor tunes ooze from forth the walls. I certainly feel my £25 worth. Unless you seek the company of underaged and uncouth personnel, look no further.
Ive been Cargo a couple of times and its ones of my favourite clubs. A good selection of music from different genres such an energetic vibe whenever I go there. The music does seems to get repetitive after a while. Although there are a couple of downfalls is it gets too packed inside and way too hot! it leads into people pushing and shoving you around which is highly irritating, There is barely any signal inside either which can be a bit of a pain also the drinks are way too overpriced, security can be rude and moody baring in mind entry is now £20 which is completely ridiculous and £3 to keep your stuff in the cloakrooms? overall its a decent club and there are better clubs in the area its just ridiculously expensive for no reason. But normally a decent experience when I go there.
Disgusting service. The bouncers and security are so extremely rude, its insulting. I wouldnt recommend this place to my worst enemy. The music was horrendous and the club was half empty throughout the night. We were over-charged (£30!!!! Charged an extra £10 on the door after having bought advance ticketsand spoken to so rudely. We asked to speak to a manager, and she was horrendously rude, walking away mid-conversation. We tried to make complaints, but after speaking to five different employees, found that none were taking us seriously at all. Their customer service is abominable.Honestly, I wouldnt not recommend this place. There are so many great places to go out nearby and in London in general. Wed already heard bad things about Cargo so I regret even deciding to come here in the first place.
Staff were not friendly, drinks were overpriced (£6 for one can of beer?!and accompanied by a £20 minimum card spend, and it was extremely crowded. Music was enjoyable but generic, so not a reason to visit. The outside area was pleasant and less crowded, and the only feature redeeming of a one star review. Not at all worth the £25 entry fee - £5 of which is charged for the honour of paying by card, yet they do not accept AmEx. I do not plan to return, nor do I recommend it to anyone else.
Ive been here a few times and been disappointed each time. The music always sounds good from the outside and the visible outdoor areas always seem busy.Getting in is an absolute nightmare though. The first night we went the girl on the till insisted that it was £10 for girls and £20 for guys. I was about to launch into a rant about how this was illegal and is discrimination but noticed a large bouncer looking at me while I was handing over money. He was going to search me. He did, fair enough, but to an extent that would be expected by US immigration, not by a bouncer at a private club.Once inside you find a relatively large couple of rooms. But drinks are far too expensive and I would suggest insisting on "not too much ice" when ordering drinks. Also, the music at times was horrendous. I remember thinking Im pretty sure I didnt pay £20 to listen to pop music. Hardly anything ground breaking and pretty boring to be honest. When I first moved to London, Cargo had a reputation for playing slightly alternative music and was a friendly, cool place to go. It just hasnt lived up to this reputation on any occasion I have been. Especially in terms of friendly because of bouncers and bar staff. 3 attempts is enough for me.I wont be returning.
Its good, not bad, just alright..Not a bad night out considering its free if you get there before 9pm (on Saturday night). Music is good and not a bad crowd overall. Mostly 18-25 years Id say and not bad if youre in that age group.Only drawbacks are the bar staff are about as much use as a glass hammer and the door men are in need of re-training. The drinks are expensive too! I ordered a vodka cranberry juice and a pint (or what I thought was a pintand it come to £13.50. The bar man handed me a can of becks expecting me to drink it like a caveman, I had to ask for a plastic cup. There are much better places to go in the local area in my view but not a bad place to start a night.
